Leech? Hmmm, not yet I think. (He's getting a bit sappy, maybe angst was better, although I would have killed myself if I had to read anymore of Elf's heart-aches) I'd have to agree with Elf though, that mental image of him with a pig is just too adorable to forget. :D
I don't like WoT because there's no one to leech onto, I've told you that already. If Rushton wasn't there, I would have been tempted leech onto Dameon, or even Ariel.... ><; I feel strangely depressed, is this what drives girls to read these days?
I tend to still see him as "Farmer Jo," you know; baggy overalls, red shirt, straw hat, grass sticking at jaunty angle out of mouth..... Hey, it doesn't mention what colour his hair is.....
We have similar tastes, its just that some of your favourites I can't quite understand.... (FY and WoT mainly)
P.S. Finished third book, you will have to hurry up or I'm going to kick you off the fourth book.

(Grr~~ Pitas finally decided the spit out your entries to me at about 4:30...)
Hmm~~ does Rushy-boy have a leech now? Hehe... lol just kidding...
Ack, I seems to be having a mental blank at the moment. Trying to remember what happens in book 2.... Ah! that's right... the library and the scried-out talent. Yeah, I think Carmody has finally fleshed out the world of Obernwtyn to a more subtantial and believable level than that of the 1st book. Although I think she tends to focus her character development on characters who form a larger part of the story (thus the flatness of Gilaine). I do find that some important characters don't get enough screen-time, which does hinder them a bit...
A yes, the ending did feel a bit rushed... it's just like they saw this glimpse of plague riddled people, and one sickly moan of "help mee~~~" has the whole investigation running away like that *snaps fingers*
Elf isn't the most emotionally observant person, so one cannot entirely blame her for her failings ><;;
*Cheers Kam on in her readings XD... I'm actually a bit surprised you want to read it, given your attitude to other books I have suggested *cough-WoT-cough*... tho I can't really acuse someones personal taste~~

The Farseekers
I'd like to point out again, the title. I first mistook it for "The Farseers", Mark too. But that's not very related.
Book starts two years after first book. But this time, Elf is to journey away from Obernewtyn with some friends. What was the original goal of the quest soon leads to another and before you know it, poor Elf's in deeper doo-doo. The plot is no longer as basic as the first and the world Obernewtyn is set in becomes coloured rather than just a black and white outline.
Again, some plot lines are rather obvious. Oh my, [HE]'s alive? I never would have guessed. But moving on.
Characters.... the author seems to have dumped her main load of characters at home. A new set of characters is introduced instead, some lacking (Gilaine) and others not so (Kella, Domick, Jik). Dragon seemed very undeveloped, as if the author had got the basic idea of her, but hadn't bothered to smooth out the picture. Ariel was rather pathetic - no screen time? And we're supposed to be afraid of him?
Not that I'm complaining, even while been away from home, Elf still manages to do the housework, expanding further on characters that stayed back at Obernewtyn. Elf grows up, while not changing dramatically, she slowly matures more.
I found the ending very rushed, mainly Elf's desposal of the guards outside.
The themes are better focused on and discussed in this book,(being thicker may have helped)
Score: 7/10.
It all balances out. Yay! Finished review! Hoorah!
I still like Rushton. And for crying out loud: damn it, girl, are you blind? Just hug the guy and make him stop angsting!
~Kam
Howling at the moon on Wednesday, May 1, 2002 [02:51 p.m.]

Dameon's very nice, he reminds me of Sethvir and Traithe rolled into one.
But I still think Rushton's better..... In a way.
Ariel is a girl, Ariel is a girl~~~!
Ariel: Pah~ Such petty insults do not trouble me! (Besides, I find that strangely arou-- erm, amusing.)
Kam would like to point out that she feels the same as Kimi, and would thank Michael for dumping upon us such a honour.
Kam in Background; Haha! Someone thinks I'm funky! Sucks to you, Mark! (Now I can cross off one of the things on my to-do list. Next stop; World Domination....)
Doesn't buy my dead act? Ah well, he hasn't read Mistress of the Empire obviously. To clear things up, I'd like to point out that Beyond The Fourth Wall I am not dead (I think I would notice.... then again, maybe not) and have two brothers. On the Web, I am known as Kamini in which I lead a very active after-life and am terribly jealous of my twin sister Kamlio (for reasons that will be explained in one word: Arakasi.)
Will do review for Farseekers in next entry.... Mark is hogging the book~ and I've only got 1/8 left to go!

(Waa~~ I accidentaly pressed refresh just as I'd finished typing my reply >_<... oh well...)
It can be a relief to read something engaging but simply written. Some Authors can go a bit over the top in the weaving of their words, so that while the tapestry they create can be very rich and intricate, it can also become hard to tell what the picture is >.<;... I don't think Vega and Alexi were given enough book-time to flesh out their characters, so in that sense they are a bit flat. But seeing as they're not in the book for very long it's not of much consequence. The venere on the plot can wear rather thin in some places too. Sometimes you feel like jabbing the characters with a "get the hint" stick e_e
I kinda like Dameon~~ XD. He's so friggin... nice and everything. Plus the whole Empath guild adores him~~ actually, he reminds me of Pape... Yeah, Ariel is a girls name (like the girl in The Little Mermaid XD...). I think the length of the book prevents it from going in-depth on themes and such. It's really one of those novels where you can start to read it and find you're already half way through
Lol, I do find Rushton rather endearing too~~ (it can't be helped ><...)
~Kimi
Howling at the moon on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 [03:55 p.m.]

I find Elspeth's name a rather big mouthful, so she's been shorthanded.
Obernewtyn.
Well, her writing isn't what I call challenging, which I guess is a bit of a relief in a way. Storyline is basic. Girl travels to Mysterious Destination, Girl discovers Horrible Secret, Girl needs to defeat Evil Villians who are about to Destory The World, (again).
The Great White reminds me of Taronga, Elf's ability to communicate with animals, talk to people inside their minds and such, sounds so much like Robin Hobb's Wit and Skill that I kept on finding myself mistaking Elf for Fitz. Of course, I'm not saying that she copied anyone, some themes are so "out there" that they can't really be copyrighted.
Unfortunately, some plotlines are bleeding obvious, they're rather tedious, for example, the mystery as to who is the real Master of Obernewtyn. [He] pratically whacked Elf over the head with the answer. (Then again, she was never too observant.....)
Characters, well. She has some very nice characters like Matthew, Dameon and Rushton. Her other characters seem a bit flat, especially Alexi and Vega(table, hehe). Being introduced late really limits their character development. Ariel (isn't that a girl's name?), was done very well, you could really see him as the sadistic bastard he is.
I find a lack of themes in the first book, maybe Greed and similar, but they're not really so focused on.
I think I'd go with Mark and give it a 7/10.
Finished the Farseekers as well. Will review tomorrow.
Ariel is too sadistic to be Armand. Armand's pretty and he does have the killer nature, but he doesn't live on it.
BTW, I find Rushton kinda cute. ><;;; Ah, well.

Oops~~ *fixes up Lujan's nose*
[link] Finished screentone on the Sober pic, and changed the donkey one so his hair is lighter.
Ah, so you finished the book? Obernewtyn is really a young teen read (11-14) Although i'd have to say that Carmody's writing improves quite a bit as the series progresses~~

Howling at the moon on Monday, April 29, 2002 [05:10 p.m.]

But where am I going to stick Ari? I want to leave Moony there because he adds to the theme......... Wai!
For some reason I always thought Lujan had dark blond hair - sandy coloured. May have been in the first book, but I don't remember now.
Arrgh! My comments dissappeared! Nah, it doesn't matter, really. (Lujan's lost his nose, that does matter, though. Am trying to remember if I drew a nose on him or not....)
Will do review of Obernewtyn later.

Might work on colour a bit later~~

Yeah, it does take ages to load. I gave up and just downloaded the image instead (over 1.5 meg~~! No wonder it takes so long...)

Which is, once again a **** png file. Kimi? (Where am I going to stuck him now?)
Still loading! Arrgh!
Yes, I do kinda wonder who actually reads any of this crap that we blab on about. (I wonder also who understands any of it.)
And it's still loading......

Lookie, lookie! [link] Jasinski over at devart did a whole group of illustrations of people. I'm 4th from the left on the very bottom row XD. Makes you wonder who reads this stuff, doesn't it? We just blab on about angst and bishies and all these other things, unbeknownst to all the people reading it......... o_O
Lol, coal shuttle helmet? Reminds me of Space-Balls. That was such a stupidly funny take-off XD. Makes me want to watch it, except we don't have it on tape (i'm sure we did once, but it's probably been long taped-over already.. Like Excalibur :/...)

Howling at the moon on Sunday, April 28, 2002 [06:52 p.m.]

Nah, by black I mean black for the hair and the pants, (I understand the folds on the pants would be a bit of a bugger.)
Leave his eyes blank, they'll be green when he gets stuck on my english book.
His hair tie thingy, is white. And I noticed you shaded it, nifty.
Spam? Yeah, but I seriously doubt it. Oh well.

Howling at the moon on Sunday, April 28, 2002 [06:39 p.m.]

[link] Not entirely sure if this is what you meant with the screentone, but eh....
I'll see what I can find for the artists. Personnaly I like the Pillows better than Aucifer. Aucifer's singer doesn't work for me... I also like The Yellow Monkey (the people who did the 1st RK ending) even though the band is kinda old... (these people are like 30 or something, I think..)
I fear the spam, so I'll leave my e-mail blank. People can contact me from my Devart page anyway.
Look for Ara.gif

Howling at the moon on Sunday, April 28, 2002 [06:28 p.m.]

*grin* Here, have another cookie. Hot damn-! Tight pants! Hahahaha~! XD
Yeah, that Legend song is full of... well. Static. But I like Aucifer's songs in general. Dunno. Pillow has some nifty songs as well.
Have you heard of Chara? Can you find anything by her? (Except I've already got "Charlotte no Okurimono" and "Sweet") The Boom also sang a TB song (I thought they sounded familar) Yuuzai, 'sept I don't have it. My TB soundtrack's missing two songs: that one and another one.
Can you upload the transparent .gif then? I'm going to give Seph the boot.
Me: Here, Sephiroth, have this boot.
Seph: ...... ....... Can I kill Cloud using this?
Me: Well, maybe, if you made him smell it.
Seph: That's what I meant.
Uh, I wasn't sure if you'd be willing to add your email so I left it blank, you can take it off or fill it in. It's over there, *points to the right*

Howling at the moon on Sunday, April 28, 2002 [06:01 p.m.]

I suspected it mightn't be Davien b/c of his eyes... Maybe Ari but I don't think he'd wear that (the trimming gives me a hint that it could be). Could be Mearn, but not with that hair, so I say it's Ari'.
I find that Legend son a bit weird...
I dunno how to make ani .gif's, but I'v saved it as a transparent gif and it looks alright...
~Kimi
Howling at the moon on Sunday, April 28, 2002 [05:41 p.m.]

Well, you only get one cookie. Donkey is Ara and Lujan but Belt-Boy is not Davien. As much as I like the guy, I generally don't see him wearing that kind of clothing. Then again, I've never seen [blank] wear that kind of stuff either, but it's different for him. Big fat hint; Hair can grow, you know.
Yep, you should know where donkey came from. It's in the bandaid, it's in the name.
Ouch, Aucifer - Legend hurts my ears....
I'd like to make it move, (blink, blink, smoke drifts etc.) but don't know how.... I have a feeling I need to make it a gif, but it looks so s***.....
~Kam
Howling at the moon on Sunday, April 28, 2002 [05:06 p.m.]

Grr~~ damn you Pitas for not uploading.
So belt-boy Davien gets the Digi-sreentone treatment (with the edge trims in black), and if boredom seduces me then Ara' and Lujan get coloured? Can't remmember where the donkey pic came from, but I have a feeling I should know...
Don't underestimate Rand's angst. The 1st book contributes to about 1% of his angst count, so... Most of it happens after the 3rd book.
What a cute chibi .png ~~ XD

Yep, SDD on monday.
My fingers are frozen.... and I wish we still had paintshop pro. Now I have to make do with crappy windows paint.
Any guesses? (As to who's in the pic) I thought it would be easy for you to get rid of the lines, as I've already outlined them....

~Kam
Howling at the moon on Sunday, April 28, 2002 [04:37 p.m.]

Opps, yes. I forgot to tell you about that one. If you notice on his clothing there's lines on the edges, and some other stuff. He's supposed to be in black and white. So, the hair, the wossname around his neck, the border around the end of his collar and shirt, the wossnames on the shoulders, and the wrist band, also the pants. The belts are supposed to be a shade of grey, you can pratice your screentone-ing. Everything else is white, white, white~
BTW, can you add "- W. Shakespeare" under the quote?
You can colour in the Donkey one if you want, but I still want a black and white one please, thank you. (Cookie to you if you know who all of them are and a choc chip cookie if you can tell me where the donkey pic came from)
I have doubts about Rand's angst, obviously you haven't read much WoLaS, but then again, I haven't read much of WoT but Rand wasn't too angsty in the first book. Most of Ari's Angst Bath happens over a 3 year period as well. Then there's the 22 or so years of peace and quiet, but then Goat Boy turns 20 which means he's old enough, and ruins everything.....
I looked up how old Ari is supposed to be: 42-47
Ara's not angsty, yeah. (Excellent)
~Kam
Howling at the moon on Sunday, April 28, 2002 [02:02 p.m.]

~Kimi
Howling at the moon on Sunday, April 28, 2002 [11:26 a.m.]

Huh, I got Remmy as well...
Perhaps we should count some of the "1 for living" one from the start of the books (like the "world depends on you living" one), and for things like tradgic childhood add 300 or so... Yes, Rand is actually pretty angsty. And he's managed to acumulate all this angst in only 3 years of book-time, where as Arithon has had about 60. If not for the fact that Rand's life expectancy is rather low (I don't think he's gonna live past 30 -_-;...), I'd say he could rival Ari' for angstiness
That sounds pretty right for Ara. I'd say he has moments of stress, but he's not really angsty
Quizz? Oh, the angst thing. Yeah, I'll put it up when I can summon enough energy to deal with the server -_-;
Oh yes, found the "Wheel of Time Timeline" so now I can more accurately caculate Rand's angstiness XD
~Kimi
Howling at the moon on Sunday, April 28, 2002 [10:12 a.m.]

I haven't listened to all the songs yet, (there's so many!) I kinda understand why Canis suggested "love letter" it does remind me of Sirius, but maybe that's only because she mentioned it.
Most main characters have important events that happen to them listed, so naturally, angst levels would be *outrageously* high. I'm not even going to bother re-calculating Arithon's Angst, there were too many events that weren't listed on the Guidelines. Although reading back, different worlds shouldn't affect the way the quizz comes out. And Rand was alot more angsty than I thought. But Ari' still w-- er, I mean, wins overall.
Would you say Arakasi had a "Sensitive Character"?
......
Nah. Any comments about his childhood? (Apart from... "vigorous training" hehehehe~!) And what about Kamlio? Does she love him in the end? (Probably, who could resist...?) Can he swim? I suspect he can dance, but can he sing as well? (I hope so, he can play the flute and probably some other instruments, I know that) Does he smile alot? (I guess it depends on who he's playing as) What about destiny? (I reckon' Ara' thinks someone up there LIKES him)
That limits things.
Arakasi: 55. Or we could be generous and say he had a bad childhood; 355. We'll add on 50 for his world going topsy turvy when the Tuscai was destroyed. 405. Hmmm.
And I have reasons to believe that Lujan played dirty on his old master. Urk, that came out wrong, I mean: We know Ara and Lujan were in different houses, but it said that Lujan knew Ara BEFORE the Tuscai got blown up, so, unless the houses were very close, Lujan either sneaked off at odd times of the night/day to see Ara (that sounded wrong too) or the authors forgot that Lujan was supposed to belong to a different house. (Lujan's old friend's statement: "I thought you were gone when the Tuscai were destroyed", paraphrased badly, supports the last theory)
Are you going to put the quizz on your website? Misc. Area?
