So I've been a lazy blogger these past few months. I doubt I'll do much better until the holidays are over. We're leaving this Friday morning for a 9-day trip to Southern IL, where T's parents live. Piper's first plane ride! I've got to admit I'm feeling pretty anxious about the flying part. I am terrified of flying. Usually, I dope myself up with Xanax or have a few drinks, squeeze T's hand until it is about to pop off his arm and attempt to sleep (I used to insist on taking the red eye when traveling between CA and NY so the flight would coincide with my usual bedtime). But now that Piper is in the picture, I can't use drugs to calm myself. My main fear (aside from crashing to a fiery death) is that Piper will freak out about being strapped down in a new, weird situation... at which point she will start screaming and refuse to stop. After discussing the issue with a few friends, T and I broke down and bought a portable DVD player today. We may not need to use it, but I am already feeling somewhat comforted in the knowledge that we will have a pretty dependable baby-soothing device in our possession while we're in the air. Baby Einstein videos never fail to calm the beast. Maybe they'll help to chill me out, too.
