The madness has officially begun. Several of our guests arrived yesterday, more are due to arrive today, etc. T and I are having dinner down in Santa Monica tonight with his parents, sister and brother-in-law. The bachelor/bachelorette parties are taking place tomorrow night. I wish I could say that everything is finished and good to go, but we still have a bunch of things left to do. Thank god for Xanax.
I'm signing off until after the honeymoon. I'll be back in mid-October with details, pictures, etc. Stay tuned...

Things That Are Pissing Me Off Today:
1) It cost over $20 to fill my little Honda with gas this morning.
2)I am SICK and TIRED of the John Kerry "flip flop" accusations. It is perfectly reasonable for a person to vote in favor of a plan (going to war with Iraq, for example) and then change his/her mind a year later, after said plan has been executed extremely poorly (and to the detriment of the public good). I am amazed at the number of mind-numbed individuals who are blindly buying into the "flip flop" rationale. Just thinking about it gets me really incensed. How can SO many people be SO dense?

A week from now, I will be on an airplane en route to Hawaii... high on Xanax and wedded bliss. Actually, I'm already high on Xanax. After a week of intense internal debate, I decided to take my doctor's advice and have been popping a pill each night before bed in order to keep my anxiety under control. Not that it had gotten out of control, mind you. But I am prone to panic attacks and I'm fearful that I might have one at an inopportune moment... I am afraid of panicking, as stupid as that sounds. The Xanax is keeping me pleasantly calm in the midst of much chaos.

Today is my 32nd birthday... and T turns 32 on Saturday. In light of the fact that our wedding is less than 2 weeks away, we have decided not to give each other gifts or do anything special. I am actually looking forward to a calm evening at home tonight. I plan to take a nice, long walk by myself after work, and Heather is joining us for dinner (T's cooking). My family was kind enough to send me the Legacy Edition of Jeff Buckley's Grace as a birthday gift, so I'll be a happy camper at work today.
And that is all for now.

HOW TO DISPOSE OF A DEAD DOG IN LOS ANGELES
1) Make sure dog is good and dead. Stuff it into a cheap, see-through garbage bag. Poke a few holes into the bag so that others will be able to enjoy the ripe aroma of your decomposing pet.
2) Put the bag in your car and drive to the outskirts of town, up into the hills, where there is quiet, undeveloped space and privacy. Make sure nobody is watching, then throw the dead dog out of your window and into the bushes.
3) Drive back to your shitty city life and wash your hands of the whole bloody mess. It's somebody else's problem now!

T and I have been crazy-busy lately with - you guessed it - wedding stuff. We trekked to and from Malibu twice during the past 4 days and have now met face to face with the Park Service lady, the rental company guy, our caterer and our photo person. The flower arrangements have been conceptualized and ordererd. Val baked a sample wedding cake and brought it over for us to taste yesterday (yum!)... everything seems to be right on target and moving along nicely. What a relief.
And while I'm on the topic of music... I recently read on Ken Stringfellow's site that a brand new Posies album is in the works. The Posies are my all-time favorite band, so this is good news. Hopefully, they will tour... and hopefully I will be able to make the trek from Albany to NYC to see them play.
The dead dog is still decomposing in its garbage bag on the road up above my house.

I can't get enough of this song. T dismisses Sarah Harmer's music as being "too girly," but I think it's great... beautiful melodies and smart lyrics... and I'm sure there are a few men out there who would agree with me.

Some asshole stuffed his dead dog into a see-through plastic garbage bag and dumped it on the side of the road just around the corner from our house. I encountered it while on an otherwise relaxing walk this afternoon... and I have been really upset ever since. As you can imagine, it is a sickening sight to behold (flies, maggots, the whole nine yards), and it is causing our little corner of the neighborhood to smell quite bad. Today's heat wave has not helped matters any. T phoned the Department of Animal Services, but they are closed for Labor Day. I'll ring them again tomorrow morning and see if they can do anything to help. I am absolutely horrified that someone would do such a cruel, heartless thing. I hope the poor animal died with dignity.

I went bra shopping today. Ugh. Double ugh: I went bra shopping today in Los Angeles, land of teensy-tiny waists and unnaturally huge tits. I had to visit three different stores to find a bra that wasn't 32DD. Happily, #3 was a charm.
A great quote, courtesy of my friend Meredith:
The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly as necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else.
- President Theodore Roosevelt, 1912

I have been neglecting this site... the wedding is a month away and I'm too busy to write on a regular basis. I will probably have some time to re-cap on Friday morning.
