T and I had a really fun Easter Sunday. In the morning, we hiked around the perimeter of Peebles Island, a cool little State park at the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers. It's been a bit warmer here lately, so the ice is melting and the rivers are gushing with white water.
In the afternoon, we split a pot brownie that I acquired at a party a few weeks ago and walked through Washington Park and up and down the streets of our neighborhood, laughing and carrying on all stoney-like. Spring is in the air, and it's making me happy. I love seasons. I appreciate them so much more now, after 5 years without them in arid, persistently-sunny Los Angeles.
This DVD is an excellent introduction to her genius... plus, it has some great footage of Jaco Pastorius. HIGHLY recommended and available via Netflix.
Today I found out that I got the job at MDA. Goodbye, dull housewifery! Hello, money! It's about time...
This is probably old news, but I just found out about a site hosting bootlegs of Fiona Apple's never-released third album. I really dig her music - it's refreshingly unique, which is exactly why the dumbass record label folks are too afraid to release it. Check it out here.
T and I have made the sad decision not to attend this year's Bonnaroo festival. It wasn't an easy decision to make... up until two nights ago, we were dead set on going and had even conned two of our CA friends into flying East to meet us there. But the fact is, we just can't afford to take a full week off to road trip down to TN (and drop around $750 in the process) when we also have plans to buy an apartment building and become landlords before years' end. It just isn't responsible. Muture adulthood sucks sometimes.
In other news, I have a job interview this morning with the Muscular Dystrophy Association. I've been temping there for the past week and a half and despite my initial reservations (most of which were founded upon the bad musical taste of two co-workers), I have enjoyed my time there (as much as one can enjoy a 9-5 office job, that is). Wish me luck.
My sister and her husband are having a dinner party tomorrow night, and T and I are driving downstate to attend. I have the feeling that my collection of mullet photos will be expanding.
For the past several days, I have been doing temp work for the Muscular Dystrophy Association - you know, the people who coordinate the Jerry's Kids fundraisers and all that. I am trying to look past the fact that my co-workers are stuck in an unsavory musical time warp and blast the Chicago's Greatest Hits and Bryan Adams Restless albums over and over throughout the day and enjoy the sensation of making money again after a 3-month hiatus. My fingers are literally bleeding from having stuffed a gazillion envelopes this week... but it's a short-term gig that ends next Friday, so what's a little blood?
I'm spending the rest of the weekend at my mother's house. My friend Jeff turns 38 this weekend, and he's having a huge bash tonight at The Hudson House in Nyack... should be a blast. My little nieces are also celebrating a birthday this weekend, so there's a big family gathering being held in their honor on Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, T will be entertaining a friend from CA who is arriving in Albany on Sunday afternoon and staying with us until Tuesday. Busy weekend... I'll try to take some photos.
