At this point, I'm just looking forward to the start of a new month. With the exception of Piper's birthday celebration on the 1st, February has been the pitts.

Last week, Piper was plagued with a disgusting (and, I can only imagine, uncomfortable) gastro-intestinal problem. As soon as she began to recover from that, I was hit with a nasty cold... dizziness, congestion, sore throat, the whole nine yards. Making matters even more unpleasant, Piper has apparently decided to start a new trend and wake up at 5 AM every morning (she used to sleep until almost 7 AM). I can usually stave her off until 6-ish, but that's still wicked early when you're sick and need sleep

Bitch, bitch, bitch... can you tell I'm just a wee bit grumpy? I'm hoping the month of March brings happier, healthier, warmer and sunnier times!

This week was another rough one for us. Our next-door neighbor Gene, who became a good friend to us during the past year, lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday morning. Fortunately, we were able to visit with him several times towards the end... but no matter how hard I tried to compartmentalize my feelings about the situation and prepare myself for the inevitable, his death still came as a pretty big blow to me. He was such a kind person and a wonderful neighbor and it was very difficult for me to watch him suffer. I will miss him.

We had a huge snow storm that began late on Tuesday night and carried on throughout most of Wednesday. It was kinda fun watching the blizzard with the baby from the cozy confines of our toy-strewn living room... but it was also kinda miserable being cooped up with the baby in our toy-strewn living room for three days in a row because of the snow. The City of Albany declared a "Snow Emergency" on Tuesday night... which essentially means that all normal parking rules are suspended and the number of spots usually available on the street is halved until the plows have had a chance to remove the snow. Poor T had to shovel both of our cars out of sizable drifts and then drive aimlessly around for hours, looking for places to leave them. My car ended up over a mile away in the middle of the park. Today, I was finally stir-crazy enough to bundle Piper up and carry her there to get it...she screamed bloody murder the entire time, it was awful (but at least we got the fuck OUT for a few hours).

Tomorrow, T will watch the baby while I sleep in (yay!) and then leave the house for several hours. I have no idea where I'm gonna go, but it almost doesn't matter...

This has been a crappy week. Piper and I are both sick. It's brutally cold outside, and we've been stuck in the living room for several days in a row. All I want to do is sleep... but I can't turn my back on Piper, and she starts whining and tugging at my shirt whenever I close my eyes for a split second. I'm very glad that it's Friday...T will be home in a couple of hours and then I will have a helping hand for a few days. Fortunately, this is only the second time I have been ill since quitting my job... but I have to say, it's much easier to sit at a desk and push papers with the flu than it is to look after an active toddler.

Have a nice weekend, everyone! Hopefully, next week will be cheerier.
