Tonight is date night! T and I have hired a sitter, who will be arriving in 20 minutes, and we are going to have a leisurely dinner and then see Casino Royale! In the theatre! I haven't been to a movie theatre since July, so this is an exciting thing for me. And I haven't been on a proper date with my husband in almost as long. Good times...
This past several days have been calm and uneventful, a nice switch from last week's craziness. My cat, thankfully, did not end up having surgery... turns out that what the vet originally thought was a stone in her bladder was actually a large blood clot that began breaking up on its own... I have to force-feed her antibiotics twice a day for another week and then take her in for a follow-up ultrasound (ka-ching!), but fortunately, she did not have to be anaethesized or recuperate from a knife wound in the belly. I once had a cat who died due to an unexpected reaction to anaesthesia, so I was really freaked out at the thought of Pickle being put under... and I was really relieved that it ended up not being necessary. She's now acting like her normal, piggish, adorable self again.
We've been experiencing freezing rain and the resulting sheets of ice on everything (front steps, sidewalks, streets, cars), so Piper and I haven't been getting out much lately. Fortunately, we have friends with twin boys Piper's age who live two doors down, so occasional playgroups have been happening... but otherwise, it's been me and her in a room for hours upon end, several days in a row... and we're both feeling a little stir-crazy. It's sometimes easy to overlook the fact that babies are in fact little humans, who have the ability to experience boredom the same as adults do. We recently joined an indoor play gym; I bundled Piper up and drove her over there this afternoon, only to discover that it was randomly closed for an event. Guess we'll try again tomorrow. I am looking forward to Spring and the return of our long morning walks with the other neighborhood moms/kids, our afternoon trips to the park, the fresh air.
My poor kitty Pickle is going under the knife tomorrow so that a stone may be removed from her bladder. I am very anxious and unhappy about it, and I can't wait until she is safely back home with me.
Lots of stress so far this week. Last night, Piper projectile vomited all over me... three times. My cat is pissing blood and will probably need an ultrasound and possibly even surgery, which is bound to be super-duper expensive. My niece Marley was admitted to the hospital this morning with a case of RSV (a contagious respiratory illness), and she will need to be there for a minimum of 48 hours.
We survived the airplane excursion! I am happy to report that none of my fears materialized... Piper acted like an absolute angel. However, it was still pretty stressful and I'm glad we won't have to do it again for a while.
We had a nice time with T's family in IL. Santa was very kind to us. Piper is still too young to understand Christmas, but she had fun eating the bows off of everyone else's presents and perfecting her walking skills. We were gone for 10 days, but it felt more like 4 or 5. We arrived back in Albany at dinnertime on New Year's Eve and didn't even attempt to stay awake until midnight (we had been traveling since 5 AM that morning). Now it's back to the routine... it feels good to be in my comfort zone again.
