Listening to/Whining About: *dances to the Pokemon song*
I neeeed Maemuki Roketto-dan! I love that song so much!! ^____^ So what if it's Pokemon, it's cool!!
I've had an utterly fantastic day today, thanks to Jane and co. ^_^ The evil classics mods are over, Jane has returned to the animesoc fold, we are muchly happy. ^_^ In celebration we spent the entire day...umm...well, celebrating! First stop was the Turf, where I was utterly shocked and amazed to meet one of Jane's friends who is a fellow fan of Alucard! Well, I say "meet", it was more Jane pointed at me then at her and shouted "She likes Hellsing - and Alucard!!" and much screechy fangirl screeching ensued. ^_^
Next stop was the fancy dress shop near the Covered Market - for balloons!! Verrily were cheesy balloons and little plastic men purchased (it's best not to ask... ^_^) I think Jane was quite pleased with them. ^_^ Quick stop at Oddbins then on to Andrew's. Where we made pancakes! A most delicious way to spend the afternoon, since Liz is a smashing pancake cook!
Eventually realised it was the evening and thus time for food so trotted off to Nando's for lovely dinner, courtesy of Jane (thank you many millions thank you. ^_^) Then some hanging about in Tasha's room, then I got back here about on hour ago. ^_^ Has been a smashingly good day, and a lot better than I thought it would.
Hurray for animesoc friends, for you are indeed the best. ^_^

Listening to/Whining About: How much I can't be arsed to do Coptic
...but it's alright because other than that everything is going lovely in Katy world. *awaits Monty-Python-esque giant foot of fate to squash all that* (oh no!! Monty Python jokes in Katy's blog!! >_<) Heh, anyway...
I *actually* watched some anime today. Nothing special in that usually, but for the fact that I never get time to usually, especially if it's something new...then I really have to be bothered to do it. But I'm glad I did because I quite liked what I watched. This morning was Haibane Renmei and this evening was Wolf's Rain. Despite the raging fangirlism over Wolf's Rain going on at the moment, I have to say I was more impressed with Haibane Renmei. Well, they were both good actually, Haibane Renmei just pipped Wolf's Rain to the post in the Making Katy Like Them stakes. *But* the fangirl favourite does seem to have lots of potential, so I think I'll probably end up liking it. It's just it's not as pretty as Haibane Renmei...it is indeed the hypnotically beautiful lovechild of Laputa and Ico. ^_^
Hehehe....I should update my current favourite anime list now, just for the amusing juxtaposition....Hellsing...and Haibane Renmei. ^________^ At least I'm not pigeonholeing myself. ^_^ Speaking of Hellsing-ey goodness, I ordered that wallscroll, yippee! It should come in a couple of weeks so I got it sent to my house rather than here. I'm sure my mum will absolutely love her daughter's taste in disturbing looking wall decor. ^_^
One thing that's put me in a better mood than anything else today is the fact that I finally managed to speak to the guy at the museum I'm doing my internship in! Hurray! Sounds like I'm going to be doing some fun stuff, too! Apparently they've got a load of artefacts they're doing research with at the moment and I can help him with that. Actual hands-on Egyptological research, how cool is that? ^______^ Well, ok, I know the answer is "it's not, unless you're a nerd like you are, Katy" but I am genuinely excited about it. ^_^
Anyway, that's more than enough me for today. ^_^

Liz is ordering Hellsing 5 for me! ^______________^ Yaaay! /considers what Eisuke is going to think of yet *more* work to do...^_^ But Hellsing 5, yaay!! *so happy* I must order the wallscroll I want too...I have nothing Hellsing on my walls, that's just not a correct wallular representation of my anime fandom! o_0
This is the one I'm getting, I decided. It's the most manga-looking wallscroll I've found, and I do like the manga art a lot more than the anime, I think.
Ummmm...not much interesting happening today. Spent most of the day in the Sackler (the classics/Egyptology library that houses our department) trying to do work/get in contact with the guy I'm meant to be organising my internship with for the summer. Museum people are notoriously hard to get hold of. >_< Shall persevere.
Light relief in the evening going round to Andrew's to see people. In his bizarre attic room in Oriel. It's like something from Jane Eyre, it really is. ^_^ They locked him up there because he's such a Cinnamon Ass he couldn't be unleashed on the world. ^_^ (Heh, I'm glad I don't have comments on here yet otherwise I'd be getting angry replies. ^_^) That was fun though, and people brought sweeties. And sweeties=goodness.
I am rather tired tonight...I'm going to have to go to bed soon...

Listening to/Whining About: being sleepy...
London trip yesterday, as the majority of people who ever stumble across this blog will know, for anime shopping and fun and stuff. ^_^ Very exhausting, rather expensive, but a fun day nonetheless. *stares at the bottle of Calpis on her desk* ...if anyone in my building steals that... >_< Anyway, yes, it was good to get out of Oxford for a day, and very fun to roam the capital with animesoc types. ^_^ Was an eenie bit disappointed I couldn't find anything Hellsing, but then that's what you get for liking a series relatively obscure in the minds of other people. : Relatively obscure from a Japanese point of view more than an American, oddly, I get the feeling...*kicks herself for not having bought the Hellsing fan guide she saw in Borders in Texas*.
But then just because I haven't found a huge amount of websites/merchandise for it in English or Japanese doesn't mean they don't exist, I guess. It does leave me with the possibility of actually helping to contribute something *useful* to the internet if Eisuke does have time to translate the manga. I quite like the idea of being a helpful little fangirl for once. Not that much of the work beyond the idea generating/manga purchasing/general overseeing and typing up would actually be my own: Eisuke would be translating, and Tasha was talking about making a sparkly website to put it on. But at least I could feel like my idea might make someone else happy, should they ever want Hellsing manga translations.
Hmmm...I get the feeling I'm a little bit low this afternoon...I'm writing about serious things. :s Never mind. I don't know why I don't feel very chirpy actually. Maybe I should go and buy myself some chocolate.I need to go and get some milk...not that the little arses on the corridor probably won't steal it before tomorrow morning anyway. They make me so angry. >_< I could always put it in the other empty Calpis bottle I had yesterday. I am rather tempted to write "Calpis is Japanese for laxative" on it and see who still steals it. At the moment I'd be tempted to put something in the milk anyway just to serve whoever it is right for being such a thieving litlle %$£!. Well, I would be tempted if I was more evil than I am. As it is I'm just a doormat who finds her milk gone and goes back to her room to feel frustrated and never do anything about it. Wuss.
Alright, I'll shut up now. I'm going to buy some milk and possibly spend a few hours playing with the Catbus card I bought in Collindale that *actually moves backwards and forwards through the sky*. Totoro merchandise...Totoro merchandise never fails to make me happy.

Listening to/Whining About: Canta Per Me - Noir
>_< Part of me really wishes we hadn't watched Noir last night at animesoc. It just reminds me how much I actually want to see the rest of that series. >_< I love the music so much...and yeah, alright it's slow, but it's pretty. They did such a great job of making it actually have the French cinema feel (/me had to watch plenty of French films for a-level...and actually kind of likes them.) I want to see the rest of Noir!
Um, yeah, so, last night was fun. Even the semi-passing-out-ness on Tasha's floor because I was just too tired at two o'clock this morning. ^_^ (Incidentally, Tasha, Liz and Andrew are freaks. They know why. At least they *ought* to!) Rest of the evening was good too. I actually got some random translations of Hellsing out of Eisuke, yaay! I need to read it all!! :'( *fights going in to "Alucard is so coooool!" mode over the manga* I can't wait to read it...
Ooh, the washing machine is fixed. Yes, the little %$£! decided to be working, AFTER I'd been shopping and bought a new pair of trousers and a new top lest I wouldn't be able to wash anything for another day. >_< Oh well, I kinda like them anyway, and I've done some washing now too. It's just a bit annoying spending money when I wanted it for going to London tomorrow. Ho hum.
In other "my college sucks" news, someone is stealing my milk. Every bloody day. >_< I wouldn't mind if they asked, and only did it occasionally but EVERY SINGLE DAY?! >_< Stupid stupid stupid people on my corridor.
Heh, happy happy...I'm going to bed. I need sleep before London.

Did lots of work today without going off and doing other things too much. Probably not even enough work to cover tomorrow's lessons, but hey I tried! I am now officially starting my bid to win the magic stars game. Oh yeah, I never said about the magic stars game before. Heh. ^_^ We are so dumb in our class sometimes, we really are... You know how you used to get sticky stars in primary school when you did good work? Yeah. We think this is a good idea. ^_^ We bought our tutor a pack of gold stars. ^_____^ We were picking specialist subjects to get extra stars for. Kiki picked "imaginative/entirely fanciful translation of texts" since she's utterly random sometimes with her ideas about what things mean. ^_^ I'm going for "getting things wrong". It's foolproof. I am evidently going to win the illustrious Star Game.
It must be seventh week, I am finally beginning to crave decent food again. Well, no, more specifically today I want Texas food. >_< Everyone should be made by law to try food from Texas because it's just the best. ^_^ You get to eat everything in tortillas and there's more meat than you could ever desire. (Yes Ivan, meat. Yummy. ^_^) *sigh* Four months until I get to go back to the deliciousness. Oh yeah, and it's a lot better than what they tell people is Mexican food in this country. >_<
/end foodular rantage
Must get going soon. Said to Phinn I would get him some cds from WH Smiths. I hope they're still doing that 2 for 1 on blank cds. ^_^;;

Did I ever tell you how much I can't stand living in my building? >_< ("Yes Katy, at every opportunity.") The sole washing machine here is broken. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA /end sarcastic laughter. Which means I have two options. 1. Lug ALL my clothes to the washing machines in the washing-cave in college (it's underground and it doth look like a cave). 2. Wash what I need
by hand. Option 2 looks considerably more likely since I hate going in to college and avoid it whenever I can, plus I can get away with only washing a few things right now, thus saving me some time to do work. Oh, and I get to make a splashy mess in my sink. (Alright that *is* the real reason I'm doing it. ^____^) Anyway, such are the perils of living in my college.
Was very pleased to see Jane this afternoon when I was in Mortons during the mad between-classes lunchbreak. She looked surprisingly happy, fortunately, so I hope the rest of her exams go as well!
Hmmmmm...there was something else I was going to say, but I can't remember what it was. Oh, yeah, bring on your evil lutefisk, Ivan. No vile Scandinavian foodstuffs shall stop me!!! >_< Even if they are soap-fish...^_^
Not much else happening in le world de moi. Read some Coptic, found out Jesus talks a lot more understandably than most people in Coptic texts, which is nice when you're translating parts of the Gospels...featuring much Jesus as they do. ^_^ Couldn't help flicking through my lovely shiny new manga when I was stuck though. Hey! I found a bit I actually understood!! Alright so I mainly understood it because there weren't any words other than sound effects, but hey Alucard/Anderson fights are cool. ^_^ (MUCH cooler in the manga than the show....Integra turns up and shoots stuff! ^_^)

Being the public service blogmisstress that I am (see yesterday) I shall take my opportunity to wish Jane lots and lots of luck with her scary mods. She's going to do fine because she's plenty smart but good luck anyway! ^_^ Just get them over and done with and come back to animesoc! ^_^
Did lots of work today, which I was pleased about for once! That interspersed with bad and wrong animesoc people talking on messenger and flicking through Hellsing manga. I am still muchly impressed at the panel that has Alucard breaking through a door shouting "OPEN SESAMI" (sic). ^_^

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! ^_______________________________________________________^
*does the dance of mangafied happiness* I got my Hellsing manga this morning!!! ^_^ Mmmm Hellsing-ey goodness... *insert appropriately adapted Weebl and Bob lines here* Needless to say, I am muchly happy about them. They are very very fun. ^_^ (They make the anime look wussy as regards the violence in the fighting o_0!) Alucard looks like a big old sack of cool throughout though, so I am most pleased. ^_^ He's so gooood!! ^_^
I haven't a clue what the dialogue say anywhere (except the bits in English ^_~) but there's just one scene that made me laugh so much when I was looking through it. Alucard is sitting quite happily sitting on the steps of some building sipping on a blood bag when a mangled zombie comes flying out the door next to him. He flips it a slightly bemused glance then nonchalantly blasts it to oblivion. ^_^ Ah he is cool, you'd have to see it to know what I meant. ^_^ The facial expressions *actually have range* in the manga - don't get me wrong, I love the anime but they tend to like to keep a "one/two emotions per character and that's it" thing going on. Alucard looking puzzled in the manga is absolutely hilarious, but just something you'd never seen anime him do because they put so much emphasis on him being almost entirely unflappable whatever the situation may be. I like the manga a lot...I can't wait until I can actually read it! o_0

Ahhh, thank you Jane and Liz. ^_^ I love that song muchly. Any song that starts "I really liked her but she's dead...and that really kinda blows" is worth listening to. ^_^ I am having something of a black humour phase at the moment (well, if my life isn't a whole black humour phase anyway...) It just rather makes me laugh.
I feel very sorry for Ivan this week, probably the animesoc blog ring's most frequent visitor this week since he's stuck in his boring lab in Norway. We should compile lists of things for him to do since he sounds so exceptionally bored. I suggested drawing pictures of his coworkers but he doesn't think he has the artistic skill. I think it's great fun. ^_^
Things Ivan can do other than be bored...
1.Thumb war! As proven at animesoc this week, thumb war is a muchly fun thing. You'll have to find an equally bored coworker though...that shouldn't be hard by the sound of things.
2.Stupid internet games.
This is an excellent example.
3.Write fanfics. You can write that Utena/Gundam crossover fic you've always had in the back of your head.
4.Find an over-populated message board preferably with lots of loud, stupid people and pick up on all their factual innacuracies and spelling mistakes (way to make friends, people... ^_~)
5.Office stationary modelling. It's like a Gundam model kit, only much more flexible and with infinite parts. Craft your own Wing Zero entirely from paper clips!
6.Think of new names for the other scientists, preferably based on their appearance or personality traits. It's a lot like watching X...Annoying Voice Boy with Yellow Coat, Chick with the Dog, Bogroll Boy....
7.Print off/find in magazines pictures and make them into themed collages. Like..."Anger" or "Death" or "People Who Look like Vegetables". Make your colleagues look at them and explain the artistic motives behind your choices.
8.Daydream. That's how I get through tutes.
9.Soak bits of tissue in water and have indoor snowball fights with other people. It's especially fun if they're really dull and unsociable people who frown upon such things as this "Fun" you speak of.
10.Write retarded lists.
There, that's my good deed for the day. 'night.

Mmm...apple and blackberry Alpen bars are possibly the most delicious thing on earth this afternoon. Yaay for the parental units buying me food I could otherwise not afford on account of it being an official Luxury. ^_^ I'm such a scab about food...if it cost more than about £1.50 for any foodular item, I feel like I'm being ripped off...hence I can often get away with spending very little of my student loan on food. I never have anything good to eat (or in fact, anything full stop a lot of the time...) but then I'm not *exactly* in danger of emaciation so I'm sure it doesn't hurt *that* much. (Kids! Have a healthy attitude to food! >_<)
Anyway, yes. I am just a little tired this afternoon, but I got five or so hours' sleep so I will probably survive. ^_^ An amusing night was had by all, I think. There's something quite fun about playing the "I'm going to stay up until dawn even if it kills me!! >_<" game, even more so when you have such...uhh...unique company. /me considers a lot of the things we were talking about last night. Nah, the fact that I didn't fall asleep once is probably testament to the interesting-ness of the people around me. ^_^ It'll be that or the constant descents into hilarious slanging and name-calling matches that did it. We actually spent an awful lot of time talking about schools last night, which was odd...well, Andrew's school was VERY odd. I'm glad I had a state education....very glad indeed.

Right, time to do something about the lack of decent bloggage on this site for a few days. It hasn't exactly been conducive to updating, to be honest, especially not with the 18 hour internet downtime that I think everyone else has explained sufficiently well on the animesoc blog ring.
Anyway, there hasn't been anything particularly urgent to blog about of late, except possibly the space pirates msn adventure, which, quite frankly if you don't know about I'm warning you, don't ask. Animesoc meeting was muchly fun last night though...Jane and Liz are bad, bad girls for playing thumb war through Kare Kano and across me, although the rock, paper, scissors was hugely amusing. ^_^ The three of us going for the same one every time...that's comedy timing. ^_^
I am worried for I think I want to see more Mahou Tsukai Tai. I think Jane may have infected me with her obssession for Aburatsubo, who is exceptionally amusing. How such an innocent looking anime can actually end up being just so plain WRONG is beyond me. ^_^ But it leads me to want to see more.
I must say, I was most impressed at the sheer obliqueness of the latest
link to this page. Although being credited for my Mind Printer idea is a distinctly satisfying feeling.
Anyway, I only got four hours' sleep, the parental units came to see me this afternoon and now I'm tired. I'm going to sleep. Or to watch the delightfully well-encoded Hellsing Special that Tasha made for me. ^_^ Hellsing? Sleep?....Hellsing? Sleep?.....^_~

Yuh, seminar day, yippee. Start classes at nine, carry on til 1, prepare seminar between 1 and 3, go to seminar at 3, leave at 5.30. It's a good thing my tutor brought us coffee. Liz is the best tutor ever. ^_^ The seminars with her are always amusing. I have a really great group of people in my year, even if we are complete misfits. There's me, our (im)mature student Kiki, Adam the ridiculously overworked Magdalen choral scholar and Stuart, resident practitioner of alcohol-related fun. (They'll all know I mean that with the greatest affection. ^_^) It wasn't until a few weeks ago when Kiki pointed it that I noticed what an odd bunch we were. If we weren't Egyptologists we'd probably never think of getting to know each other because we're all entirely different types of people, but I suppose that's one of the great things about university, you get to meet people you'd never know otherwise. Sometimes I like uni, see? ^_^

Well it had to be after Liz came and we sang gleefully along to Hair. Ohhhh say can you see my eyes if you can THEN MY HAIR'S TOO SHORT!! ^_^ Hehehe...I like that song. Thank you Tasha and Jane for all my music videos last night!! ^_^ Last night was pretty fun actually. It was just good going round to Tasha's for a bit because we don't all get a huge amount of time to talk during the meetings.
Last night's selection was...interesting. ^_^ I'm going to make the hugely controversial statment and say I like Azumanga Daioh. Although I think it might have been helped by being inbetween the two most amusing people to watch it with. Poor Jane...I could almost see her moving to gouge her own eyes out. Eisuke, on the other hand, was evidently in heaven.
As, it has to be said, were the rest of the fangirl contingent when they showed Gravitation. *sigh* Gravi. I really can't say I'm much of a fan. It's not that I don't like shounen-ai - Yami no Matsuei is one of the best series we've shown at animesoc imo - but Gravitation just doesn't appeal to me for some reason. Everyone else seems to like it though. ^_^
The more I think about it, the more I think my taste in anime makes me look dumb. I'm just not desparately into serious or romance or any of the other more credible genres than action or comedy. I like stuff like Excel Saga and Digi Charat, they just make me laugh. And the whole Hellsing thing, yes...I do like that excessively, I'll freely admit. The best way to stop other people thinking I've got appaling taste is probably not going to be trying to explain there's a lot more to it than just "Yay! Alucard owns everyone!" That generally puts people off more than it encourages. But that said, I do think it's great, I do think it has some exceptionally interesting characters and a lot more to it than just fighting. Not that I don't like a good fight. Even if Jane has now tainted the Alucard/Anderson fight in ep 3 by explaining the "real" issue at hand. (If you don't know, don't scar your mind further... especially since Integra won.) Err...there was a point to this paragraph somewhen. Oh yeah, my taste in anime. I'm honestly not an idiot, I promise. ^_^

Normal service is resumed, everyone. ^_^ The blip on my radar of idiotic happiness has passed and I'm feeling much more like my usual self. Things have turned nice in the last couple of hours, classes went well, I found a nice new Greek dictionary (my Coptic one came in the post yesterday...it's huge! ^_^;;). Had a REALLY good tute!! :o I thought my essay was absolute crap, but my tutor evidently didn't! ^_^ Yaay!! Yay for cobbling together a pile of arse about Egyptian literature and being told you cobbled good! ^_^ In tutes I generally have the "things being said by tutor and from own mouth" soundtrack and the "things being said in own head" version. It was nice that today the latter went on less of an "arse-crap-arse-crap-let's-end-this-and-save-both-of-us-more-embarrassment" theme and in more of an "EEeEeeeEeEEeeeeEeee!!! ^_^ I got something right!" direction.
Tasha gets a big blog-ified hug today for being lovely concerned friend at my crappiness yesterday. Thanks. ^_^ Being the mentally unstable type I am, things are going better and generally sorting themselves out. And the fact that my Hellsing manga is finally getting shipped doesn't hurt either!!!! ^_______________________________^ (The Smile of Hellsingey Goodness (TM))
But I'd better do some work soon, I guess. ^_^

So cold....Oxford is so freezing at night, not even my great army of scarfy-coaty-glovey-majigs can fight it any more. I want a long coat..a *good* long coat...a long RED coat. ^_^ (Yeah yeah, I know, there are panes of glass less transparent than me, but I can't help it...) One day I'll come back to Oxford having found the definitive Long Red Coat and I shall love it and wear it forever. Then I'll buy a big red hat and yellow glasses and people in my college will think I'm even stranger than they do already. But I've ranted about the people here enough before, I don't desparately want to right now.
Went to see Treasure Planet tonight. Wasn't the best Disney film I've ever seen, but meh, it passed a couple of hours when I could otherwise have been slaving away at work. ^_^ Went back to Liz the No Life Bushbaby's for a bit, which was good. Then Andrew and I got scared by a random drunk throwing bottles on the pavement outside college. We walked away. Very fast.
Anyway, I should sign off because I have so much work to do tomorrow and I've got to go to this Joint Consultative Committee I volunteered myself for. (The Egyptology students' rant forum...)
Oh! One last thing. Either someone's winding me up or I'm deaf and blind but someone on a message board I go to reckons there's going to be a new series of Hellsing this September. I'm not sure what to make of that, but if anyone does know anything, go on, please tell me? My email's linked up at the top of my profile!! Please? ^_^

Last night! Yay! Much fun was had by all at Shoujothon, I think, even me! :o Not being much of a shoujo fan, that was quite a surprise. Well, may not. Throw manifold animesoc people in to a small room and hilarity will ensue, I think is the general rule. Everything we could possibly twist into shoujo from Miyuki-chan in Wonderland (it burns my eyes!!!) to Witch Hunter Robin (tenuous, I know ^_^) shown and generally enjoyed. Oh, and did I mention Hellsing?? Did I??? ^_^ Hehehe...I love my animesoc friends....indulging my desire to see big screen Hellsing! Thank youuuu!!!! ^_~ I like that trailer on the first dvd muchly. How much excessive gore can you pack in to one hugely violent SEARCHU ANDO DESTUROY-alicious segment? *And* it has that Hermes coffin “I am Hermes, I become tamed by devouring my own wings” thing, which is wonderful in a "we're making oblique references - aaahhh!!" kind of way. ^_^ Can't get enough of Hellsing theorizing right now, I really can't.
Honorable mention for wonderfulness of the day today, *must* go to Laura, though, for my NEW STITCH TOY!!!!!!! :D He's so cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute! ^_^ (Thinking this is something of a contrast to my last topic, but so what? ^_^) I don't know what the chances of Laura seeing this are, but should you ever wander to my blog, I hope you see this and thank you very much! ^_^

Mmmm....there's a water pipe right next to the wall in front of where I'm sitting and it's the perfect height for using as a very warm footrest. Toasty. ^_^ Simple are the pleasures in my life, I know. I'm slightly paranoid it might burst one day and cover my feet in scalding water leaving me unable ever to walk again. Or giving me an electric shock from all the electrical stuff plugged in down there. I'll just become a vengeful ghost and fight the safety hazards of the world with my telekinetic powers. (Now *there's* an idea for an anime!)
At the risk of incriminating myself, I'm very glad the Andrew-Valentine's stunt worked. (Oh well it's not like he hasn't figured out we did it now! ^_^) How lucky are you to receive cards from *four* of anime soc's raving fangirls?! :o Parade your new-found popularity and be the envy of your (confused) friends!!
Oh, and whilst we're on the topic of Valentine's day (or "the feast day of Saint Hallmark" as Jane calls it, ^_^) I'm going to be a pathetic romantic and say happy Valentine's to my other half, Daniel. ^_^ I miss you and I love you loads. (Yes, laugh animesoc people! I do have emotions other than "crazed" and "violent"!!)
I don't know whether I'm looking forward to or am terrified of the prospect of Shoujothon tomorrow...countless hours of girly fluff? It's not *really* my style, but Ivan promised Two Mix in projectory goodness and a few more treats, so I should be alright. ^_^

*ahem* Yes, um, composure. Other than lovely lovely Hellsing (*does the Hellsing dance*) ummm...ooh, I was very happy with the ending of Boogiepop. That was satisfying, I think. Although I won't claim to have any understanding of what the heck went on in the other 11 eps. Gundam Seed is also pretty smashing. Aww...the yaoi bird of love, tis cute. I can't watch Escaflowne with a straight face anymore, incidentally. Between wishing Folken would just call everyone Seras Victoria or "PUNK!", Andrew's "unique" pronounciation of Escaflowne and Jane's (frankly gutter-minded!:o) remarks about Allen and Van's swords, it's too funny for its own good. Kare Kano, on the other hand, shall fall victim to my Alucard-like wrath once more, for it is crappy and they do not understand that photocopying is NOT a form of animation! Tsubasa, however, is still the only good thing about it.
Anyway, to bed, and to nightmares about what on earth the fangirls of doom are going to do with the picture they took of me in G+D's...

Aaaaand relax. ^_^ (Very crappy) essay handed in, enough work done for Friday and nothing else important to be worrying about doing. Well that's a rare feeling, isn't it? I did actually do some work today, because I'm a stupid workaholic, but I limited it to a couple of hours. Liz came round as a welcome distraction and we played a bit of Gitaroo Man. That game's so much fun! ^_^ Especially in two-player mode. So, played that for a while and messed about on the internet. Which is always good for a laugh. Especially dodgy Hellsing manga pics. I *wish* the manga website I've ordered that from would get back to me. They have this weird system of "you email us what you want, we'll email you back in a few days and tell you the price." And they haven't emailed me back yet...grrr....should have ordered off Animenation or something... Ho hum.
Oh, and my mother has discovered this website. I *had* to show her the "Which OAV Committee Member Are You?" quiz because I knew she'd think chibi-me was hilarious (and she did! ^_^) I *hope* she found this site funny because it is meant to be...I'm not entirely sick and twisted (but the fangirls of doom....hmmmmm.) But anyway, I'll have to mind my language writing on here now. ^_^ But of course, I am an exceptionally polite, well-mannered and kind-hearted young lady, as everyone who knows me will testify. ^_^

Anyway, despite my general incompetence in life, I did manage to get all the work I set myself done today, which is a rare feat. Essay finished, Old Egyptian translation done, Coptic done. And a break for tea and a bit of anime too. ^_^
I am most amused, I must say, with this....

You're Katy!
|
You keep your brain in your rucksack. You're prone to random acts of violence and odd feuds against other members of the society for no reason any of us can remember. You can, however, craft a mean End of Eva out of mango sorbet. Oh, and Alucard is your bitch.
Which member of the OAV Committee are you?
|
The fangirls of doom have done us proud again. ^_^ Although I'm now left with something of a dilema, given the results of the last quiz I posted on here...how can I be my own bitch? :o Hehehe, never mind, I think I'll just go with the results of this quiz...I like them. Although where this idea of me and random acts of violence comes from, I really don't know! :o I do like chibified me very much, incidentally. ^_^ I look like I should be in Ranma. ^_^ And Stitch is a stroke of genius. Definately gets two ultra-violent thumbs up from me. :D
Oh and for anyone who

****ALL**** of Hellsing already,
this is a smashing website but with
SPOILEEEEERRRRRRSSSSSS!!!!. Really interesting ideas on the Alucard/Integra relationship. (Minor slash suggestions, fangirls, nothing more I'm afraid. ^_^) Did utterly amaze me to find out that Hellsing started off in 1996 as a hentai manga!! Although before you even think of it, from what I gather none of the actual hentai-ness involved anyone from the anime. But still quite an odd thought. Much like searching ebay for Hellsing stuff....I don't desparately want to shop for items with the words "Hellsing", "hentai" and "doujinshi" in the same sentence. :s
And on that disturbing thought, I bid you farewell! :o

I'm sorry, but it was not a fun tute...
Anyway, my essay is done now, which is a spangly nice thing! ^_^ I just have to do a little bit of editing tomorrow morning, but hopefully that won't take too long, provided obssessive-compulsive Katy doesn't attempt to eradicate every single mistake in her riddled composition. Deedahh... At least that got done this evening though. And I got some time to relax too, which is always a good thing. I never find enough time to talk to people these days, even on messenger (hah! seeing people in real life?? you've got to be kidding, I'm a recluse except in lectures and anime soc...) Makes a change to talk to people, even if Liz and Ivan don't think my Card Captor Alucard (TM) anime will get off the ground. (Whyever not?? I'd watch it...^_^)

I've pretty much been sitting in front of the computer since I woke up at nine writing my lovely lovely Egyptian literature essay... -_- And getting distracted...and ordering Hellsing manga off the internet! Yaaay!! ^_^ Ivan did try valiantly to find me a copy of it on his travels in London, but alas England sucks and they didn't have it. Oh well, as Liz pointed out, I get a spangly parcel from Japan ordering it online (with Japanese stamps and everything, I'm keenly informed!:O) Can't wait for that to get sorted, although I'm a bit concerned it won't reach me before the end of term. I don't want to have it sent to my house either, because we're moving soom, and at least I know the college will still be here in a months time, even if we're not at our house any more.
I've noticed there's an unofficial OAV blog webring going on around here. ^_^ Very very bizarre. I shall have to answer some of the goings on on other people's pages. First of all, everyone go and look at

Mehhhh....good old cocktail of sleep deprivation and essay crisis. Not feeling much like Grover on E, either. I had a good night last night, it was fun. I don't know how much of Mikey's house we may have ruined but I hope it wasn't too traumatic. Things seemed alright when I went to pick up my camera this afternoon. I was slightly panicked about that one, the first half of the film that was in there had some photos from Texas on and I didn't want them getting lost.
I'm fed up with people in my college! *initiating complaints mode* Someone above me was playing ddr, that or throwing things on the floor with very ddr-sounding rhythm. Making the whole of my room shake. Thus, I have had enough, and I really don't care if people here like Two Mix or not, because I'm going to listen to it and I'm going to listen to it just as loud as everyone else has their music. I love the Two Mix White Reflection video Liz gave me last night! ^_^ Run, Two Mix, run!! Save the world with your magical appley goodness!! I need more music of that calibre. The kind you'll only appreciate if you're Japanese or really really like Japanese pop culture. But it's so much better than the crap that gets churned out in this country!! I very rarely listen to the radio these days, and I obviously don't have any kind of music channels on tv cause I'm a student, so I have a completely distorted view of what is popular music. Which is a bit of a pain in the arse when you remember that normal people don't know any of the songs you like. It's alright, that's what anime soc friends are for. ^_^
Anyway, tonight is not going on until 6 am like yesterday so I'm going to bed now.

Games night tonight, yippee!! ^_^ Getting happy about it already. Very sad, I know, but it's not very often I get to play videogames against other people, not having a huge amount of videogamey friends and coming from a family with two sisters, neither of whom particularly like games. So games night is a welcome opportunity to get trodden to the ground by vastly superior players. Except you Eisuke, if you ever see this. I'm better than you, especially at Puyo Puyo and DOA2. :p (/me waves the big flag of sarcasm and runs away giggling....) But I do like playing against other people. It's more fun than just swearing frustratedly at the console when it beats you, and consoles tend to break if you clout them for cheapness playing. ^_^ And then there are the occasional victories, they're always worth it. Even though I'm never going to beat my crowning glory from Texas... round at a friend of my boyfriend's, sitting quite quietly watching (the exclusively male) everyone else playing for a couple of hours until they invited me to have a go. And beating every single one of them. ^_^ Hehehe...some things are worth waiting for...

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!! ^_^ We started Hellsing at anime soc! Why yes, yes I do like that show. Mind, I don't think there are many people who haven't figured that out already...I have.....enthusiasm for it. Some might want to call it stupid-obssessive-fangirl-itis, but I prefer "enthusiasm". I don't know what it about Hellsing, it's just a really good show. Art-wise it's exceptionally well done, the character designs are fantastic (freakishly sinister Alucard...) the colour (especially in ep one) just oozes everywhere and the music is top. ^_^ I need manga, I need it now. Yes Integra looks tarty in it, but Alucard is so cool.
Alright, next on the agenda: Kare Kano. Miyazawa, you suck. You suck so utterly utterly much you rival the terrible lack of animation in this show for the title of Absolute Worst Thing About Kare Kano (you get the feeling I don't like it? ^_^) The final straw tonight..."Oh Arima! You're going away for a whole month!! How will I ever survive without you?" :O Given that I won't see my boyfriend until summer, as I've said plenty of times, I would quite happily kick Miyazawa's whiney little arse from here to Kyoto or wherever the heck it was she was coplaining about Arima going to. I don't like that show, except Tsubasa. Tsubasa rocks.
And finally,
this. Gundam/Hellsing crossover manga goodness. ^_^

Just a little bit of wiritng before I get back to work. I'm having a really unmotivated day today, so I probably shouldn't be having a break, but what the heck. Spent a thoroughly irritating morning trying to find books in the Secret Egyptology Library in Queen's (you'll never ever find it unless you're an Egyptologist, it's amazing fun! ^_^) only to find out that someone had taken all of the ones I needed out. The library isn't computerized so there's no record of what's on loan, mainly because there aren't any librarians there - we just go a get the books when we want, it's fantastic, no closing time! ^_^But anyway, I couldn't find the books I wanted so I gave up and bought a copy from Blackwells. Never mind, I needed a copy of it anyway.
Oooh! Next week I'm officially halfway trhough my degree! Yaay! I can't say I'm going to be crying about leaving Oxford. Alright I'll miss anime soc and the handful of other friends I have here, but to be honest I'm really just fed up of living in England. Stating the obvious a bit, but I'm going to America after this, visas and things permitting, of course. I just can't believe it'll only be another year and a half before I can start being independent going off and doing non-studenting stuff me. Makes the five months' wait til my next trip seem decidedly closer, which is a nice feeling. I just want to start doing exciting stuff, you know? Things that don't involve studying or grey, miserable English weather. :p It's a grotty day out there everyone...

(I love GW music...so cheesy....^_^) There may be a downside to this blog writing business, particularly when I get inspired to write something in the middle of doing translations (the Great Sphinx Stela of Amenhotep II - yes, they found it next to the Sphinx, how did you guess? :O) Whenever I try and organise my work it *always* goes pear-shaped...I can't stick to timetables or plans or anything like that. I used to plan work/revision timetables and stuff obssessively until I realised it was really a complete waste of time since I'm too lazy to stick to any plan I make. Mmm...new mp3 (see, what did I tell you? I can't even hold a train of thought that long!!) This is quite cool, it's by a guy who used to run a website I lived on many years ago until it folded and the collective masses were dispersed. :( (I miss that site...) He does all electronic stuff under the name of Stereostatic these days, it's good. I should probably plug Pi's website one of these days...
I'm feeling a bit more optimistic about work today, despite the fact that I have a lot of it to do. Classes went well this morning, it actually ended up being quite a laugh. That's the great thing about working in a tiny weenie department, everyone knows each other pretty well. My Egyptian tutor this year is just the best. She has a great sense of humour, and she hates the nine o'clock starts too. ^_^ Coptic was amusing in its own way...my tutor clutching his head in his hands when I asked why goats were bad. :) There was a reason to it at the time, don't worry...biblical sheepy/goaty/animally imagery and what have you, which I am genuinely interested in! There are some intellectual thoughts in my head sometimes...rarely, and they quickly pass, so you'd never know. How I got this far in the educational system, let alone to Oxford, is still a mystery to me...
Must go. Need to scrape some food together from the fluff and teabags in my room.

Meh, computer stress. I've had it up to the proverbial here with Internet Explorer and it's finally been replaced. Probably should have done that many years ago, and I'm probably an idiot for only having one browser in the first place, but I'm very pleased with Phoenix. (Thanks to Ivan for the recommendation! ^_^) It's not crashing every two minutes, which is a good thing for a start. But anyway, everyone go and find Mozilla's Phoenix, for it is good. I'd link but I'm lazy...
Ooh, I am proud to report I've created another Hellsing fan. Hurrah! That's makes a grand total of two. T'other half, and now t'best mate at college. Well, non-anime-type Sian seems to be enjoying it, and I'm happy. She enjoyed Inuyasha last year when I forced her to sit down and attempt to enjoy my hobbies, no matter how ridiculous they might be. It's just nice to get other people interested in stuff you like, I think. Felt a bit miserable thinking about this blog entry though, because it's beginning to dawn on me that next year, a lot of my friends are going to be gone, Sian included since she's a linguist and she's going to spend a year in the big wide world of Germany. But sadly she's not going to be the only one. :( Depressing, the amount of nice finalists I know...don't want them to leave. I'm hoping we get a good crowd next year at anime soc, that being about the whole of my social life here in Oxford. This year's new additions seem very nice, but I sorta wish that some people would talk more and stuff. If anyone's reading this and they think the committee et al are all unapproachable freaks, please don't, we're not! :( I think the really great thing about last year's anime soc was how it ended up being a lot more of a "social" society than at the beginning of the year. At least that's how it was from my point of view. So, um, yeah, moral of the story, everyone has to come to G and D's after the meeting and be happy. Compulsary. :D Oh, and I will try to be more friendly to everyone. ^_^
Alright, that's enough bobbins for now. Going to talk to my fella.
PS edit....And from my blogalicious reading of other peoples' lives, Andrew, if I'm ever made to do Demotic I think I may run away. Very very fast. Crying. I'll stick with the normal forms of Egyptian and not the looks like nasty nasty spider scrawl ones. ^_^ But hey, you want Egyptological rants, you can have them. And if you want Coptic rants, I can supply them in droves...
Well that let the cat out the bag about what I'm not enjoying, eh...?

Hehe, this song reminds me of being in Texas. ^_^ Five months til I get back to The Greatest State in the World (TM). Well it beats England any time...they actually have anime in shops over there. IN SHOPS!! (I realise this is only going to mean anything to anyone reading this from Oxford, and since I know this blog has already been linked to at least one American site now, go ahead, laugh at our pathetic state of affairs in which poor otaku don't even have easy access to dvds.:p) Anyway, yeah, Texas. I like it a lot. Not just for being the place of residence of my other half, either, but that does help.
My Stateside longings aren't exactly helped by the fact that I'm utterly fed up of doing work at the moment and I really wish it was the end of term. I'm finding it really hard to sustain interest in one half of my subject, because, well, I just find it excessively hard and not particularly rewarding. For fear of someone ever seeing this, I won't elaborate on which half. My just desserts for picking an obscure subject, huh?
Since I'm on a roll with these complaints, I really wish I had more time to play videogames at moment. I have a copy of Onimusha 2 that I *still* haven't touched, despite liking the original very much (it's not DMC, but hey, you get to be a samurai and you hack things up. Yes please thank you very much.) I also have my guilty pleasure on the go at the moment, Kingdom Hearts. Oh my secret shame, games with Disney characters in. Well, it's good, despite the fact that they just had to pick the two crappiest characters as your team-mates, Donald and Goofy. This was a joint Disney/Square venture, right? You could've put chocobos in! Yeah...that'd be great, running around with an attack chocobo...and possibly Stitch (Best. Disney character. Ever.) I know, I'm a fountain of crap ideas... Keen with this whole blog thing, aren't I? Anyway, since there is only so much I can take of reading about Egyptian literature I thought I'd do some more of this. An addition to my last entry, thank you Jane for you gruesome touches on the design. I think you've pitched the sadism level just right. ^_^
Anyway, a little explanation of this might be in order, if only for the poor soul who stumbles across my blog on a lonely winter night and wonders what the crap it is. I *think* Mascot Roadkill came out of one of those waiting-for-the-next-show-to-come-on discussions at anime soc (that being the mighty Oxford Anime Vision for anyone reading this who's not a member...the link's over there somewhere, use your eyes!!:O) I think I give the impression of having something of a sadistic streak, at least that's the impression I get from anime soc types. I really don't know why. Answers on a postcard. Anyway, some mascots are just too sickly for their own good. Particularly King from Nadia. I remember watching that last year and I think I'm not the only one who holds that opinion. Mascots are fun. Splatting mascots is funner. Alright so that doesn't really count as an explanation as to why your favourite character got deaded, but please if anyone reads this and is mortified by the virtual death of their favourite fluffy thing, please rest assured the author loves little critters really...she can't speak for the designers though, and to be honest she has doubts about their sanity anyway.... ^_^
I'll never re-read anything I write, so all the spelling mistakes and grammatical mishaps are their for your pleasure. Laugh at me if you will. I'm an Egyptologist not an English student! Don't expect me to write well without pretty pictures!
Off to do some more work, I think....

Well zipadeedoodaday, they'll let anyone have a website these days, won't they? I suppose the first thing to do would be to thank Tasha for making this spangly design - thank you, you are a website genius! I can't promise that the content of page will live up to the hilarity or theraputic value of flaming King from Nadia, but we live in hope... Something more inspiring will be appearing on here soon!
