Listening to/Whining About: Day Eighty-Four - >_<
My life has been thrown into complete disarray today. No, not for any of the reasons you might think it would, but by a much darker, more sinister cause... there is someone on the internet parading as me!!
Yeah. >_< I tried to sign up for AOL messenger today (don't ask why, it's all entangled in my paranoia about all my messenger and email systems simultaneously failing and leaving me without my sweet nourishing digital communication) and the screenname katyjag was already taken. >_< Why why why why why??? Who in the world wants my retard internet name? >_< I made that up, I've been using it for, like, six years now. o_0 Someone has stolen my identity and I don't like it.
The only other possible solution I could think of was that many moons ago before the dawn of half-decent service providers we were actually on AOL. I might have registered katyjag for my email address, but I really don't remember. Anyway, it is bee in my proverbial bonnet.
Did manifold interesting things today. Sat in on Daniel's philosophy class, found out I really don't like Aristotle, got mistaken for an actual member of the class, went to the museum to say bye to someone I didn't get to last week, went for pizza then went to exhibition of photos by one of the people I was working with this summer. And that's about it.

Listening to/Whining About: Day Eighty-Three - School
Yes, actually, today I went to school. Well, school in the sense that all Americans call any kind of education "school". I went with Daniel to his college to sit in on a couple of classes. History and Astronomy. History wasn't bad, the teacher was very interested in the whole I'm from Oxford thing because she went to Harris Manchester for a term. Asked me about if I knew "that pub you have to go down a little alleyway to get to" ^_^ I wonder...
And in astronomy we sat in the planetarium and watched a big planetarium film on the ceiling about Mars narrated by Patrick Stewart. ^__^

What have they done to Sephiroth to make him look like a grey-haired Marilyn Manson??!
And for people who hadn't seen it before, I presume
this is the picture they've re-made there. Why oh why does six year old super-deformed crazy-hair Sephiroth just look infinitely better than new spangly Seph? Why? :( And is it just me or do neither Cloud or Sephiroth have Mako eyes any more? o_0 Mako-induced glow is a good look for them...
And why can't I find the video for Advent Children on Ruliweb? *note: if anyone replies "because it's in Korean, fool!" I will personally kick your sorry obvious-stating ass from here to a very long way away.

Listening to/Whining About: Day Eighty - Mmmm tostadas...
I have been inventing food. Hurray for my lack of culinary skills!! Today you can have a recipe instead of the daily crap report.
Ingredients (serves two):
Four tostadas (or poppadoms if you are in England. They are essentially the same thing. :O)
Lots and lots and lots of bacon
Cheesey cheese, preferably ready grated to avoid cheesegrater nail splinterage* (*nails taste nasty)
Tomatoes, cut into eenie weenie little Frankenweenie pieces
Fry bacon in ridiculously hot pan. Make boyfriend wary of evil bacon crackle that threatens to take over the world. When ready, smush bacon into little pieces using knife and fork, consuming at least half of said meat before it even reaches the plate. Scatter remaining bacon bits on tostadas, drown in cheese, heat in microwave until aparatus produces unnerving clunking noise, cover with tomato and serve.
WHY NOT TRY AND MAKE YOUR OWN????? :O

Yeah, would you believe it, I'm already looking for my flight out here for Christmas. I'm very tempted to pay an extra fifty quid just to be able to fly British Airways. My flight over here sucked sufficiently to remind me that the cheapest flight is not necessarily the best idea. >_< I'm really not looking forward to another long haul flight on Delta. >_<
Not a huge amount happening around here at the moment. Spent last night watching the Nightmare Before Christmas in the French dub, with subtitles in Spanish. And quite how much did it hurt trying to understand the subtitles and the dialogue together at the same time? o_0 Hehe. ^_^
I hope you all had a lovely time in London. Wish I could have been there too, but hey. And Tashular, you'd better be coming to Oxford soon. *shakes fist*

Finally my true skills have been realised! ^______^ This morning education-type lady Deborah was talking to me and Daniel asking if we had any suggestions for movies they could show to tie in with the next exhibition, about food. I couldn't think of any ones they didn't have already, so she went on to the next topic. "Do you know anything about Japanese films?" Heeeeee ^______^ Of course we modestly said, well, yes, a little bit about animation. ^____^ So she wanted a list of things we'd recommend them to show for the exhibition. Incidentally, if anyone has any ideas for good artsy anime (or just regular Japanese movies) to show, tell me. I gave the obvious anything by Hayao Miyazaki suggestion, but I'm stuck on something a bit more grown up and artsy. Anyway, if anyone has an idea.

Listening to/Whining About: Day Seventy-One - Alright...
I'll do something that consists of more than three lines for once.
Not that I've been doing much today. I'm feeling the work-stress-panic as I have been for about a month now, but strangely I haven't been motivated to do anything about it all day. I know I'm going to have a crappy year next year and I don't think any amount of preparation is going to make it less so.
To be honest I'm feeling a bit pulled in every direction right now. It's the whole knowing I'm going to have to make a transition soon thing. I don't want to go back to England, but I'm beginning to miss people a lot. It probably goes without saying that I really don't want to have to leave Daniel. I remember the feeling last time when I left in January. It's just horrible, there's not really any other way to describe it.
And not just that, I actually feel nervous about going back to Oxford. Seeing people is going to be good, but it's the times when I don't have anyone to see that bother me. Essentially I don't have any friends in my college. I tried getting to know them, it didn't work, I didn't find anyone who was really going to get on with me except for one, and now she's gone to Germany for her year abroad. And now I'm dreading being on my own when my parents leave. Every other time, my one friend in college would be there to meet me, but obviously not anymore. Right now I'm really not sure if I want to be on my own that soon after leaving here, but there's not much to be done about it, I have to come back to Oxford.
A lot of worrying right now is about what's going to happen next year. This one bugs me a lot as I think I've said before. Daniel and I have talked about it, and for the moment I think the plan is going to be that I try and find a job in Texas so that the two of us can just live out here. But there's always that difficulty that, yeah, I've got to find myself a job in Texas. I don't even know where to start with that. I don't know the procedure for coming out here, I don't even know what I want to do for a job. Museum work would be fantastic, but frankly my finances are in no fit state to let me do graduate studies right now, which I'd have to do if I wanted a museum job. I don't even know if I'm smart enough to be a graduate.
Closer future is looking like a mess too. I'm coming here for next Christmas, which means that this is going to be my second Christmas away from home. It looks like Daniel will be coming to see us in summer (hopefully) which means that I'm probably going to have to do the travelling the next Christmas too. It's certainly not that I don't like being here for Christmas, because it's lovely, but I miss my family too sometimes, and I miss Christmases like we had up until a few years ago. (Last Christmas I was in Texas, and the Christmas before that we had family problems which meant we weren't all together then either.) Throw in the whole "this is my 21st birthday" too and you have even more fun. :/
I'm sorry this is just turning into a me problem rant. If you skipped down to this paragraph you probably did the best thing. o_0 I think more than anything I'm just writing it out to get it clear in my head what I'm meant to be figuring out in the next very hectic few months. >_< I'm a compulsive worrier, and the fact that my life has become infinitely more complicated in the last few years doesn't really help me sleep. But I guess going to bed would be a good plan for the moment. Apologies again for the depressing drivel...

Everyone seems to be talking about dreams today (and yes, I *do* mean everyone in the sense that only Andrew and Jane were... :p) which is odd because I had a really strange dream last night too. Anyway, I took the day off work today. Chiefly because I've been feeling crappy recently and moving books in a dusty room isn't going to improve that, but also so I could get some more work done. More Coptic, yay. Oh, and I got my schedule for next term from the Oriental Studies website this morning. -_- Yeah, that's another reason to be doing as much work as I can right now. >_< I'm not very much looking forward to the next year, especially with the whole mushing the last two terms together because of finals period. >_< Oh well, I should probably get back to some stuff now...

You're Farfarello!
Purposeful and focused, you don't waste time stressing over the little things. As happy on your own as with a few close friends, you're probably not a crowd person. You give life everything you've got, and you don't care what anyone else may think of you for it. Inhibitions and conformism are for other people. The only standard you're living up to is your own.

Feeling marginally better now though, which is good I suppose. ^_^ Went with Daniel to dentist because he was having teeth extracted (owwww) and that's about it for now. Listening to/Whining About: Day Sixty-Five - Yaay Johnny Depp Filmage!
Daniel and I went to see Once Upon a Time in Mexico this afternoon. For one reason and one reason alone. Johnny Depp is just brill.
Alright, so Once Upon a Time in Mexico is definitely not Pirates of the Carribean, but for a mindless action film it's pretty good. I'll admit now that I've never seen the other two films in the series (El Mariachi and Desperado) but I don't think it really matters since they do a recap at the start.
But it does pretty much fill everything I want in a brainless film: manifold big-scale gunfights, at least one scene in which market stalls of watermelons explode, and a chihuahua whose name apparently means "Snot" in Spanish. ^_______^ Oh, and it has the very best line in any movie ever as far as I'm concerned: Johnny Depp to other bloke upon finding him disagreeing to his plan: "Are you a Mexi
can or a Mexi
can't?" ^______^
And one last thing: check out Johnny Depp's collection of entirely inappropriate comedy t-shirts. ^_______^
Sorry that's a short and useless review, but I must go to sleep. ^_^;;

In response to absolutely no request whatsoever, I present ME LIMIT BREAKS!!!
*fanfare then a crash*
Limit Break The First - Ultra-Sonic Puppy Squee
The Subject is presented with manifold small cute and fluffy creatures, not dissimilar to the puppy she has been looking after today. Overjoyed by the sight of small cute and fluffy animals, emits ultra-sonic sound only audible to said creatures, which turn into killer attack squadron of ninja puppies and defeat enemy at her command.
Limit Break The Second - BURAINU DETACHU!!!
The Subject, equipped with ever-present Stitch brain-rucksack, charges toward enemies. Screams in best shrill fake-Japanese accent (think Card Captor Sakura RELEEEEASUUUU!!) BURAINU DETACHU! at which point rucksack detaches and turns into super-enormous giant mecha Stitch which she then pilots and uses with the laser beam eyes and the violence and the blood and the hey hey hey, etc etc.
Limit Break The Third - Random Act of Shounen Violence Attack
The Subject appears in swishy cape with sword and/or guns. Does impressively imposing twizzly-roundy thing with employed weapon to terrify enemies. Falls off bed and remembers she is wielding umbrella not super demon-hunting death blade and real life is in fact not Hellsing or Devil May Cry.
Limit Break the Fourth - Super Fun Happy Alukaty Death Swarm Beam Attack
The Subject summons large ball of bat-like creatures (think Diabolos in FFVIII, people...) above her as sky darkens and ground trembles. Magical symbols surround enemies and generally look scary. Giant ball of bat-like creatures explodes to reveal hordes of Alukatys - blood-curdlingly terrifying cry of EARRRRRCHH!! resonates around battlefield. Enemies have nasty headache for rest of the day.
...and in real life I can actually do all of them. All of them I tells ye. o_0
Blame it on being midnight and me having spent the evening playing with the puppy and watching Highlander. (No, seriously, was there ever a time when that movie *didn't* look cheesy?? I'm not saying it's not brill in an "eighties movies yaay for crap!!!" sort of way, but dude...it's like cheddar-coated edam...)

Listening to/Whining About: Day Sixty-One - Bullet Pointable Recap
Ok, recap of things I should have mentioned yesterday and today:
The Ivanular Unit got dropped off at the airport yesterday morning. I hope he got to New Orleans alright, but I don't think he has internet there! Muchly fun weekend spent seeing one of the Ass no Ryu again, though.
Bought Final Fantasy Tactics Advance yesterday. Yippee skippee new Final Fantasy game etc etc. I actually like the gameplay a lot more than I thought I would, but then we'll see how that changes when I actually get on to some of the harder battles.
Finished playing The Wind Waker last night too. Hurray for ickle Link for he is one of the bestest videogame characters ever! I luff Wind Waker, for someone who otherwise has absolutely no interest in the Zelda series (well alright I watched the cartoon when I was little but I don't think that counts...) I'm seriously impressed with it. Candidate for my top five favourite games ever, I believe. And now I want the soundtrack cause it's brill.
Oh yes *EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!* One of Daniel's aunts brought her new puppy round last night!!! *me turns into gibbering wreck of puppy adoration* It's some kind of tiny weenie hyperactive doberman chihuahua thing that likes scrambling around on the floor and being wiggly. It owns. And we get to look after it on Saturday when Daniel's aunt goes out of town. ^_____^
Ok, well, today has been pretty much working in the library, with the added bonus that they've decided to do some decorating in the offices around us, so I was wandering around being asked my opinion on the colour samples for the rooms. ^___^ Yaay for my lack of interior design skills!!

Listening to/Whining About: Day Fifty-Eight - Fiesta Texas
Alright, I admit it. I am actually even more childish than usual under certain circumstances. Like going to theme parks. Especially when there are rollercoasters involved. Today featured much theme parkage and rollercoasterage. ^____^
Strangely enough, we went to Fiesta Texas today (the hints were subtle, you may have missed them...) and it was indeed fun. Even more so because Ivan had never been on a rollercoaster before, and I like them very very muchly. ^___^ I don't think my enthusiasm for being turned upside down at gut-wrenching speeds quite transferred though. Particularly when he came off the Superman rollercoaster refusing to talk because he was concentrating too hard on not throwing up. Hehe ^_^;;
Oh yes, and all this was made infinitely more fun since I got a free ticket in! :O We were waiting in the line for tickets and a women walked up to us and gave us a coupon for a free pass she had spare. ^_____^ Mmm free fun. So much more delicious than paying....
Anyway, after most of the day at Fiesta Texas we came home, snagged Daniel's Gamecube and set it up in Ivan's hotel room. And Ivan gleefully cut down trees wrote rude/threatening letters to people in Animal Crossing. ^_^;; I'm telling you, he has a really evil side! :O Played Super Smash Brothers Melee after that, and entirely confused Ivan. Although frankly even I don't know what's going on in that game. ^_^
Hopefully we're off to the zoo tomorrow, to see the world's bestest armadillo. ^_____^

Listening to/Whining About: Day Fifty-Seven - So many things...
Right, short summary of events today given that I'm sleepy and manifold things occurred.
Took Ivan around downtown today. Finally actually saw the Alamo, which I hadn't done on two previous trips to this city, despite it being the single most famous thing San Antonio has. Went round Rivercenter (big shopping centre) and the Riverwalk (big...walk around river o_0) and up the Tower of the Americas, the third perhaps being the most interesting because I'd never been there and you can see all of San Antonio from the top.
After that we went to the museum just to show Ivan where I'm working. Got an hour or so in there before it closed, so that wasn't so bad. Nipped into HEB for supplies afterwards, then headed back to Ivan's hotel.
At this point I think manifold apologies and thankfulness ought to be extended to Daniel, since we spent pretty much the whole evening watching and obssessing over Utena. ^___^ Daniel has never seen Utena, and never particularly wanted to watch it either, but he got somewhat (alright there's no "somewhat" about it...) pushed into watching it. The good news, however, is that he actually quite enjoyed it. ^__^ We did offer an interesting selection of episodes...essentially the first three then all the "let's make fun of Nanami" episodes. The curry/cow/Nanami laid an egg trio are amongst my absolute favourites.
Perhaps one other point of note about the mini-Utenathon that all should be pleased to hear, we have created another Touga fan. ^______^ We showed Daniel the Akio car and choice Touga moments (Touga's facts of life speech to Nanami is so funny... ^___^) and frankly who couldn't think he was a total manho dude after that? ^__^
Right, sleep.

The Ivanular Unit arrived in San Antonio this evening, along with presentage (Hello Kitty stationery, yaay!! ^____^)and more chocolate than I have ever seen in my life. ^__^ I mean, I asked for some chocolate from England because I just missed it, but I wasn't expecting about 30 pounds worth of it!! ^________^
Unfortunately San Antonio was not looking its best today given that it's been thundering (we even had a power cut in the museum this afternoon o_0) and thus everything got soaked with rain, but we still managed to go a few places this evening. Namely geek shopping and tacos. ^__^
Tomorrow is the grand tour of downtown San Antonio, for which I should probably be getting to sleep, given that it's 12 already.

Listening to/Whining About: Day Fifty-Five - Answers to Andrew's Questions
On account of his plethora of comments, I shall dedicate today's blog entry to the Andrular unit.
Answer to Comment One: No, I don't actually vote on those stupid polls on Gamefaqs, that's why I asked everyone else to vote on them but denied my campaign another vote in my ignorance. /sarcasm. ^_~ No, really, I think I should do my bit to defend the world against the hordes of FFVII good guys obssessives, because frankly they're just not Sephiroth. And Cloud?? What's up with that?? He made me want Sephiroth to win by the end of the game. o_0
Answer to Comment Two: *cries* Yes I want Chaos Legion!!! I'm undecided on whether I'm more excited about the mindless button-mashing gameplay, DMC looks or bishounen with sword in the artwork. ^__^
The down side, however, is that this year I'm pretty much not going to be able to play any games. :( With the exception of Tactics Advance, which I'll give up sleep to play, I'm pretty much going to have to knuckle down on my dissertation and revision until summer. It's pathetic but I've got so much to do before finals, and last year's Egyptologists were just going berserk all year because of it. -_-
Answer to Comment Three: F-Zero anime?? *shudders at the thought* You haven't seen the cutscenes from that game yet, have you? I want to pretend it's unintentionally camp, but there's only so many times I can see Captain Falcon before I stop believing that. Incidentally, we want to know more about the F-Zero anime, so email me if you can tell me anything. ^_^

Haven't been up to much else. Went from work to another of Daniel's friends. Felt somewhat shy again because they were all talking about things I don't know (I'm not really a big 2D fighter fan...) and, well, yesterday showed my skills in F-Zero are pretty crap. It was still more fun than coming straight home and doing work though. ^_^
...which I have to do now. -_-

Listening to/Whining About: Day Fifty-Two - I want to play Zelda
...so today's entry is in bullet points. ^___^
Point the first. Went to house of Jose, friend of Daniel. Had considerable fun playing F-Zero GX and falling off the track more times than should be humanly possibly. (F-Zero is a racing game for those who read this bullet point blankly). Still like Wipeout more. The characters look less gay. o_0
Point the second. Moped around about problem expressed in previous blog entry. Still no resolution on that one. Looks like I'll be out here for Christmas/birthday, I think. Not that that's bad, really.
Point the third. Too much Coptic and not enough Zelda makes me want to play Zelda. Goodnight.

Listening to/Whining About: Day Fifty-One - Not feeling happy
So yeah, one of the worst things about living a lovely ocean-hopping lifestyle like this is all the ocean-hopping. -_- Discussion has come up in emails from my mum about what I'm going to be doing this Christmas, and for my and Daniel's 21st birthdays.
We currently have three alternatives: 1. I go to America, spend second consecutive Christmas away from the family and 21st birthday with boyfriend not parents 2. Stay in England and be miserable about not seeing Daniel for nearly a year due to lack of travel opportunities until next summer, but have Christmas and 21st with parents 3. Have Daniel come over for Christmas, which blatantly isn't going to happen because it's more expensive travelling America -> England than vice versa, and he doesn't have the money right now either. -_- My parents want to pay for Daniel to come and visit in the summer, but there are a lot of messy reasons why I can't change that to Christmas. -_-
So yeah, anyway, whatever happens it looks like I'm going to make someone unhappy. I'm sorry this is a really pathetic thing to be depressed about, someone should just kick me up the arse for being such a whiney cow. -_-

Listening to/Whining About: Day Fifty - Austin
So we went to Austin today. Yep, capital of Texas and all that ...and absolutely nothing to do downtown. o_0 This is perhaps best explained in the events of the day...
Got up at stupid o'clock this morning to get tickets for an early bus from the bus station in downtown San Antonio to Austin. Arrived about 11 am. Realized the bus station was in the middle of nowhere so we jumped into a taxi and were fleeced for $12 just to get into the city. >_< The taxi driver seemed somewhat confused at our request to go downtown, and told us to our horror that there weren't any malls in downtown Austin. o_0 So we got out near the Capitol building (sort of like the Texas parliament, I think) and had a walk around. And saw ickle squirrels, one of which jumped on my shoe. ^________^
After a little bit walking around the park there and attempts to find signs of life elsewhere in central Austin (for a state capital you wouldn't believe how few people there were walking around on a Saturday afternoon >_<) we went into the art museum. Now, I don't know whether I'm just spoiled for working in a beautiful and very large museum, but I felt somewhat cheated that we payed $4 each to go into one gallery and look at one collection of Andy Warhol pictures (especially when I don't even like Andy Warhol's work >_<). Somewhat false advertising saying you're an "art museum" when you only actually occupy one floor of the skyscraper you're in. >_<
Anyway, out of desparation we decided it was time to just look on bus timetables and go anywhere that said "mall" on it (Daniel and I are both shopping centre addicts, it's sad but true. o_0) We found a bus and ended up at a relatively large shopping centre. And happily one with videogame and anime shops in. ^____^ And a shop that had Hellsing dvds for $17 in. ^______^ They were second hand, but for $17 and they were in good nick, so I got them. ^__^ Now all I need is the last dvd and I've got the lot, yaay!! Daniel also found a game he wanted, so that made that part of the day worth it, anyway.
Decided to call it a day after that, so we headed back downtown to figure out how we could avoid the hefty taxi fare again. Fortunately someone at the bus stop knew the right bus route to take to get to the Greyhound station so it was $1 as opposed to $12 this time. o_0 And ironically enough, the bus we took landed us right outside the mall directly behind the Greyhound station *that we hadn't seen when we arrived* >_< Never mind, I suppose...
Anyway, we're home now, albeit a little bit miffed that the vcr didn't record Saint Seiya (*pats Saint Seiya obssessive boyfriend*). Very tired, but I guess at least we got a day out. I complain about all the things that didn't go right today, but it was worth it really, if just to see somewhere different.

Listening to/Whining About: Day Fourty-Nine - *crosses fingers*
Tomorrow we might be going on a trip!! ^_____^ Everyone please keep your fingers crossed that we can get tickets to Austin tomorrow morning, cause Daniel and I want to go out for the day. ^___^
I'm really travel-itchy this week. o_0 Hence this afternoon I decided we really needed to go on a trip somewhere. The fact that I've been here for a month and a half in the same city was just beginning to annoy me. It's not that I don't like San Antonio, because it's lovely and my absolute favourite place in the world, but I just like seeing different places. It's like, when we're in Oxford we go to London just for a change of scenery, that kind of thing. ^_^ So I'm dragging us to Austin, despite knowing nothing about what's there. ^_____^
Ok, well, I've been on the internet far too long now, so I'm going to play some Soul Calibur. ^_____^

Stuff and things, stuff and things....
Did some more work cataloging today, which was again more interesting than I thought it was going to be. I'm quite looking forward to next week because we'll be able to start photographing the objects we're looking at. And photographing things is fun, because it means we get to play with the digital camera. ^______^ (Yes alright, but I don't have a good digital camera so it's fun for me. :p)
Had a wander round Borders after work and bought a couple of anime magazines. I resent paying $10 to read two articles in Newtype, and yet I still bought it. They did have things on Loki and Brigadoon that various Ass no Ryu types might want to read (well, no alright, *Andrew* might want to read...) I'm more fond of Animerica out of the two magazines I bought, even if it has a somewhat less hardcore outlook than Newtype (90% of letters from readers being about Dragonball Z -_-) but then it's not $10 and it doesn't do that dumbarsed "let's flip it back to front but have the dvds in the English dub" thing. >_<
Anyway, Ivan, if you haven't picked it up already, you might want to get the latest Animerica cause it's got Utena on the front. ^_^ And strange and disturbing articles on yaoi and yuri. o_0
And that's your me for the day.

Listening to/Whining About: Day Fourty-Six - *scowls*
I'm going to make this an extra long entry full of even more boring crap than usual, just because
*he* was talking about my blogging being short. :p
*cracks knuckles* Well, I had a considerably more interesting day than I thought I was going to today. I woke up in one of those *don't pull me out of bed because I'm not going* moods, since I knew I was starting a new project today.
The actual project itself wasn't what I was objecting to, it's just I'd met the person I was working with last week and frankly he kinda of scared me. He's a local Egyptologist who loans a collection to the museum and I'm helping catalogue it. Anyway, working with him I found out he's actually considerably more friendly than I thought he was, so it was actually quite interesting to work with him. So that was better than I thought.
Ok, now I'll actually do a proper review of the Haibane Renmei dvd. I'll freely admit that I'm very picky about dvds and translations and crap about shows I like, but I'm actually very pleased with what Pioneer have done with Haibane Renmei. For a start they didn't translate the title (ok so we knew they weren't going to do that ages ago, but hey, I'm still pleased) and they've obviously kept "haibane" untranslated in the script, which is also good.
Another plus which I always like in my products: free gifts. ^_____^ Yaay mini Haibane Renmei shitajiki for they are muchly pretty. The boxset box itself is actually very nice too. It's a sort of textured effect on it, very cool.
About the only thing I don't like about the dvd (no, I haven't listened to the dub ^_~) is the fact that they put the episode previews in the extras section and not on the end of the episodes. Hm. But, overall, a very quality project. ^___^
Right, I can't actually be arsed to write any more. I'm going to play Zelda. :p

Listening to/Whining About: Day Fourty-Four - I've really been here for a while now o_0
I miss England. Not in a sort of crying-every-night way, more a sort of I'm-watching-things-with-English-people-on-tv-just-to-remember-how-they-sound thing. Well, not just that...the show was actually quite amusing. Some spy show, imaginatively titled MI-5. I don't know if it was an American network show but it had real English people in and it was set in London so that was good enough for me. Then I watched some Mexican football (in Spanish...) because it was the closest thing I could find to decent sports here. *cries at not seeing the grand prix*
Today has been productive if uneventful. Apparently I've nearly finished Zelda, which is a shame because I luff it, and I don't think I'll luff the original games because they don't have cute cel-shaded ickle Link in. (For those who don't know but are vaguely interested, if any...
Big Link,

Dunno whether it's the humidity or what today but I've just been feeling really dizzy. I couldn't keep myself walking straight going around Walmart this afternoon. o_0 It's a pretty humid day today...
Anyway, moderately busy day. Went to visit one of Daniel's friends, which was alright. I feel a bit shy around Daniel's friends though, unfortunately. This probably sounds dumb given that most people reading this know me as a loud-mouth idiot, but yes, I do get shy around people who aren't you. It's not that they're not nice, because they're all very friendly and what have you, but I think it's kind of like if I were someone new around the Ass no Ryu, it'd be a bit like that. You don't really know all the in-jokes or conventions of the group so it's a bit odd. I dunno, anyway...
Did some shopping after that. Bought some notebooks to do more translation in and stuff. Came home, made Daniel watch an episode of Texhnolyze, was amazed when he was vaguely interested in it. This must be why he's my boyfriend. Nobody else in the world likes that weird crap. ^______^

Finally got my arse round to going to the Japanese restaurant in the shopping center we go to most of the time. Looked absolutely lovely from the outside and quite posh ...although in good Texas tradition it wasn't.
The food was quite good even though the service was slow. I was kind of surprised at the lack of Japanese people working there. I was expecting more of an Edamame thing where it's kinda weird to get served by an English person. ^_^;; Seemed slightly too Americanized in some respects (pretty much all the drinks were Coke/Sprite etc, miso soup was served with a spoon...) but they do good chicken katsu and chicken katsu is yummy. Could've done with some of Edamame's jaga bata though. ^_^

In the style of the Ivanular Unit, this entry will be mostly containing reviews.
Went to see Finding Nemo today - yaaay!! ^____^ Yes alright no prizes for guessing this is going to be a good review, but I love good children's movies and I love fishies so I was bound to like it. Apart from the scene in the forest of jellyfish, which was actually an accurate portrayal of my idea of hell. But ho hum it's a movie set in the sea, what can you do about it?
Anyway, Finding Nemo. Quality film. I can't say I was particularly fond of Nemo himself, but the supporting cast is muchly amusing, as is Nemo's dad, Marlin. The seagulls were hilarious. Their only line of dialogue is "MINE!! MINE!!" which is absolutely perfect characterization if ever I heard it. ^___^
Now on to a review I have been writing in bits and bobs over the past week. Spyro the Dragon....
Despite earlier enthusiasm for the little purpley dear, my patience with this pile of crap game has now snapped. I happily played the first three Spyro games for PS1, but I'm afraid the advance to next-gen consoles (if you can still call them that o_0) really hasn't done the series any favours. Whoever did the quality control testing evidently had a blindfold on, and whoever decided to make it about a quarter as long as the first three blatantly doesn't want to keep the fans happy. *jaded*
I'm just very very disappointed with it, to be honest. It's far too short, the controls at some points are just pathetic (on one level I was doing this afternoon it just ignored my command to jump, every. single. time.) and it has more glitches than a very glitchy thing. Makes me want to forget I loved the first three. -_-
Goodness that's a lot of bile from one sitting so placidly at the computer. o_0 Maybe it's the heat.

Such a day. o_0 I thought this was going to be a nice relaxing weekend. Ohhhh no. We went to the museum education day, which was fun and all went very well. Much thankingness from the lovely museum people for our help, which is always nice. And we got to go in the very lovely special exhibition thing which I'd been meaning to see for ages. It's an installation by this glass artist called Dale Chihuly. Very very very pretty.
Anyway, that all went fine, until Daniel's glasses spontaneously fell apart. o_0 Cue spending the rest of the day trying to find an optitian who was open. >_< In this kind of weather it's not really the stress you want. But it got sorted, so I guess that's good. Plus it gave us lots of time to wander around Borders and stuff. Was feeling particularly geekish/desiring of English culture so bought Monty Python and the Holy Grail on dvd, on account of the fact that Daniel has never seen any Monty Python ever (and the special edition had much crap I want to watch on it. ^___^)

That said, thunder was quite appreciated today, given that it was 111 degrees in the daytime. >_< Yaay.

Good day at work today. Well, sort of. It was good because I got to work with the fun people in the registrar's office and we went out for lunch (had an eye-wateringly hot chicken and dijon sandwich... o_0) but bad because my work has suddenly got so much more difficult. >_<
I'm meant to be helping compile the catalogue for the Egyptian stuff, but the list of objects I've got work with has loads of things wrong on it. >_< So I'm having to trawl through so many different filing cabinets and records and stuff just to get it all done. Eh. Well, I have nice people helping me so that makes it a bit better.
It's the weeeeeekend. ^_______^

Not feeling that cheery today. Not really homesick or anything, just a bit muh. Once again this will be a short blog entry. Don't really have much to report either. Going to eat/watch tv/avoid doing any work then feel guilty about it. Yeah. -_-

Short blog, need rest. Too hot. Very tired. Went to comic book shop after work, bought amazingly cool Sandman calendar for next year. Measured Egyptian things at work. Had fun. Big lunch with museum staff cause someone was leaving. Also much fun. Now resting.

I am. No other point to that title.
Busy day at work, particularly since I was working with Greek and Roman stuff which I actually have no idea about. But it was interesting. And we have some very pretty statues in the museum. Of course, the Egyptian stuff kicks their asses, but I'm not so single-minded in my Egyptology that I can't admit *some* Greek and Roman stuff is *ok*. ^_____^
Should probably do some work now, if I can be arsed. In this weather it's very hard to be arsed to do anything. Pshaw.

Ordered Haibane Renmei dvd today. Yaaybeans. This is a good thing. The society will have Haibane Renmeiey goodness for next year, and I will have pretty free shitajiki. Yay.
Good day at work today. Did some work on my education stuff then spent the afternoon sorting through Greek vases with other interney people, which was amusing. They were all talking about English TV shows that they show over here. And how they're infinitely better than most American programmes. Admittedly I don't watch a lot of TV as it is, but I think they have a point, a few notable exceptions excepted. ^_^ (/me is ashamed to admit she watches Seinfeld all the time over here -_-;;; It's on after The Simpsons, I can't not!!)
Going to play Zelda. ^_^

Sleep day. Sleep and food at very delicious Mexican restaurant. But then Mexican food is the best. Not very much to blog about today. Started some work, promptly gave up. Played on internet, talked to Jane about Sandman. Luff the end of The Kindly Ones, which was finished today.
Coherent thought returns tomorow.

Listening to/Whining About: Day Sixteen - Kids, Cheese and Gravy
So this morning Daniel and I went to help at this museums and libraries fun day (well, I say museums and libraries, I'm not sure how Sea World fits into that category, but they were there...) It was in fact much fun indeed, despite the fact that it reaffirms one of my growing fears about being over here.
One of the big problems about being somewhere in the US like Texas is that the regional accent bears almost no resemblance to normal (ie our ^____^) English a lot of the time, so very frequently people don't quite understand things I say. This effect is multiplied when you're talking to children. Thus a terrible consequence is arising...I keep saying American words. >_< It's not so much just the words (I refuse to say cookies and I don't care what people think >_<) it's the whole adopting horrible pronounciations subconsciously because that's just how they say things over here. >_< Like three hours of talking to American children about Egyptians had me saying the pharaohs were buried in "pee-ur-mids". o_0 It's disturbing, it really is.
And that was the useful part of the day over with. After that, went off to for food. KFC really amuses me over here. You get mashed potatoes and gravy with your meals. ^_^ And biscuits. Yeah. That's one thing I never knew until I came to Texas. Everyone knows the whole "biscuits aren't called biscuits, they're cookies" thing, but nobody ever told me that biscuits is a completely different food out there anyway. o_0 I was perplexed looking at KFC menus with "chicken and biscuits" on. Biscuits are these weird little scone-like things, only lighter. And much nicer, actually. Anyway, enough of stupid cultural tangents.
On to stupid lack of culture. ^______^ I dragged Daniel to see Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life this afternoon. ^_______^ Like (I imagine) most people reading this, he had absolutely no desire whatsoever to see it, but he's just unfortunate to have a pathetically geeky I've-played-all-the-games-and-Lara-Croft-is-my-hero nerd-ass girlfriend. Yeah. At least I admit it. o_0 And we watched it. And it reeked of cheddariness. And I liked it. ^_____^ But then everyone knows I have no taste in anything. :p
Bed.

Listening to/Whining About: Day Fifteen - Pulling a Sickie
Yeah. I was not really in any fit state to be in work when I woke up this morning. Well, I say woke up, I mean when the alarm clock went off and told me I had to get out of bed. I hadn't really been asleep for a while since I woke up in the middle of the night with exceptionally painful stomach cramp. >_< So that was unpleasant. o_0
Stayed in bed most of the morning then finally got up when I had to go to the museum to sort some things out for the education day I'm doing tomorrow. Couldn't really not go in for that because I'm the only one from the museum going. o_0 Yes, I've been working there two weeks and I have to represent them at an offical thing with members of the public and stuff. o_0
Anyway, after that Daniel and I went to Blockbuster and rented copious anime. For lo do they have anime in Blockbuster...and not just crap. o_0 Rented Cowboy Bebop movie and Spirited Away on account of Daniel not having seen them, and Voices of a Distant Star/Hoshi no Koe cause I wanted to see it. *goes pathetic and sniffly* Yeah, so Voices is really sad but very very very pretty. In case anyone hasn't heard of it, it's a very short (about 26 mins) um...short...about a guy and a girl who are trying to keep in contact with each other by text messages when she gets sent into space to fight a war. The only thing is, the further away from Earth she goes, the longer it takes the messages to get there.
I wouldn't say I *enjoyed* it as such, because I don't think it's the kind of thing you enjoy (think Grave of the Fireflies, which I also love very much but can't say I enjoy watching,) but I had a very very big lump in my throat by the end of it. Possibly has extra effect if you sit and watch it with your own long-distance boyfriend....
I sound depressed now. o_0
Oh, and if anyone ever does watch the Voices of a Distant Star dvd, don't overlook the She and Her Cat films. Also very very very sad but pretty. Oh, and does anyone happen to have the music for Voices kicking about (don't go looking if you haven't though, it's just on the offchance really)? *looks at Andrew because it sounds like his kind of thing* It's nice.

Saw something very odd by NG about Harlequins...ugly, but maybe the story was interesting, I don't know. ^_^;; They also have new Hellblazer comics. Anyway. Bought Di Gi Charat manga cause it was there. "Dark Gema Gema Team" ...pshaw. o_0 Yes Ivan, Viz suck ass.
Anyway, busy day at work, but not especially interesting for bloggage. Had much fun making treasure hunt sheet. Also bought best present ever for big sister's birthday. Futurama box set, yaay!

Finished doing my education guide thing today...and have been given an even better project to do. Making a Treasure Hunt round the Egyptian Gallery!! ^________^ Museum education is the best job ever.
Nice to see more Hellsing music up on
The Noodle Bowl. Although it reminds me how much Kisenu Dekigoto annoys me. Because there is more of that song after the 58 seconds - it's in the Alucard/Luke Valentine fight - just the stupid Hellsing soundtrack people decided to mess with our heads and not include it. >_< And I like that song. >_<

We went to Sea World. ^____________________^
*has excessive Sea World glee*
Heeheehee...I had so much fun today. ^___^ Woke up at 5.45 and dragged Daniel out of bed...was protested against fervently so went back to bed. Alright so Sea World doesn't open until 10 am, but it's always good to get an early start. ^______^
Arrived at Sea World after getting lost on random highway on the edge of town, paid excessive amounts of money to enter Chez Shamu and squeaked for joy like joyful squeaky things. Well, I did, anyway.
Did manifold excessively fun things. Shamu show was blatantly the first thing to see. ^_____^ Saw big killer whales, they splished, trainers stood on their noses and we got on the big tv screen. ^______^ Heeheehee....we were sitting minding our own business and suddenly they had us on the tv!! ^_____^ I grinned and waved with what was probably embarrassing enthusiasm. I couldn't help it, it was coolbeansness. ^___^
What else? Saw a fantastic show with these acrobat dudes and dolphins and belugas (BELUGAS!!! YAAAAY!!!) Belugas are blatantly the best animals ever. They're all big and white and sblobby. ^___^ Oh yeah, heeheehee....the seal lions show was brill. ^____^ Mainly because the sea lions kept on not doing what they were told. ^_______^ Yaay disobedient sea lions!!! There was one that very much liked his fin clapping trick because he was aplauding himself when he was meant to be doing other things. ^____^
However, the absolute highlight of the day was a little bit earlier than that. I fed dolphins. ^_____________^ So brill. So very very very very very very very very brill. I luff dolphins, and they were eating fishes...from me. ^____^ And I got to stroke them too. ^____^ Dolphins feel funny....kinda like wet plastic. They're coolbeans.
Oooh! And I bought the best soft toy ever. A cuddly manta ray. ^___________^ He owns. Totally.
I have spent the rest of the evening here tending to very very bad sunburn on my face and (considerably more fun) catching lizards in the living room. ^_____^ There was on in there earlier and since I'm the only one who doesn't hate them, I was chasing it around until I got it under my hand and took it out into the garden. ^____^ Lizards are also coolbeans. ^__^
Going to watch TV and/or see if there are any tacos left. Mmmmm tacos....

I don't know if everyone gets this doing nine to five jobs, but this afternoon I really could not be arsed to do any work. o_0 I mean, I did work, but it was under protest (my wicked self, making me work!! >_<) I spent most of the afternoon looking up pointless things on Google just because I had writer's block thinking about what I was going to put in my handout sheet.
Frankly I am too excited about tomorrow. Going to Seaworld!! ^____________________________^ Alright so I officially ought to object to this kind of thing, because I do luff dolphins and killer whales and they really shouldn't be in aquariums...but I have awful childish desire to go and squeak at Shamu. >_< Such a hypocrit....

Had a good day at work today. I happened to mention to the person I was working with yesterday that I was interested in museum education (I think most people who read this knew that, but if you didn't, yeah, that's what I'd like to do ^_^) so today I got to work in the education department.
And it was very very cool, since I now have a Project. ^____^ I got to the education office place and the lady who runs it (Dr Scott's wife ^_^) asked if I would organise a teacher's guide to the Egyptian artifacts on display. ^__^ So I spent the afternoon wandering around the galleries picking out all the things I thought kids would like. ^__^ Apparently children gravitate towards the mummy cases like nothing on earth, so they were top of my list, but I've also got some really cool animal statues and inscriptions and gods statues too. I've just got to write the descriptions for them now. >_< Which is a pain in the ass because I can't think what the blatantly obvious important and interesting things to say about Ramesses II are. >_< He built stuff, and fought things. >_<
Anyway, yeah, that's my project. ^_^

Weather's a bit better today, fortunately. Bit less unpleasant than yesterday with all the rain. Ironic really, I leave England and it gets sunny, I come to Texas and it rains... It's evidently all my fault.
Anyway, I had a really good day at work today. I made me official first Archaeological Find. ^_____^ Yaaay!! I was sorting through some Roman coins helping out one of the people in the department I'm working with, and I found a coin they didn't even know they had!! So cool. ^___^ I got to do some recording stuff too. Looking at crocodile mummies and stuff. ^_____^

So uh, yeah. Hurricane. Very very close to San Antonio. >_< Rain everywhere. >_< We shall have to wait and see what happens...hurricanes are decidedly less exciting when you're actually in one, believe me.
Anyway, apart from the horrible weather, did more orientation stuff at the museum today. Was more interesting than it sounds, looking through filing cabinets for five hours (what can I say, I'm an Egyptology nerd :P). Talked to lots of curatorey people since I was working in the offices. And lovely curator lady who works in the South American art department even got people to come and install new lights so I can see if I want to look at the filing cabinets again. ^_^
Anyway, should be getting home now since it's getting rainier by the minute and we need to go to HEB for food. >_<

Haven't been up to much today...saving my energy for tomorrow and my first day at the museum. ^_^ I'm quite knackered at the moment anyway. As soon as I'd finished blogging yesterday I got offline and collapsed on Daniel's bed...and was asleep for three hours. ^_^;;; Then we went back to the hotel and I collapsed again, even though it was only 9pm. ^_^;;
Anyway, we did go out - down to Rivercenter, the very very nice downtown area of San Antonio and big shopping mall. Bought a new handbag for taking to work (I'm afraid Stitch doesn't really go with any of my work outfits ^_^;;;). Did some walking around in lovely air-conditioned goodness, which is always a relief when you've been outside. o_0
Have spent a fair bit of the afternoon here at Daniel's playing videogames. Animal Crossing and Valkyrie Profile featuring heavily. ^_^ I like VP muchly, it's coolbeans on a stick. ^_^ A shame about the voice acting, but it's pretty.

Listening to/Whining About: Day 2 - Why didn't they call it LEG?
Very very late morning due to extreme tiredness. (This is going to be a very short blog entry, incidentally, because I'm heat exhausted and I want to play Animal Crossing ^_^).
Highlight of the day as far as reporting is concerned, we went to see The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I think I'll have to read the comic though, just to see what the comparison between the two is like. I suspect Mina Harker may be just as OOC in the book, but that was the main thing that bothered me in it. ^_^;; Script was dodgy at times, but the effects were good, and the story is great. ^_^ Hurray for classic literature fanfic! Anyway, I won't say much other than I enjoyed it for it's mindless fun factor, because I'm sure people don't want the spoilers. Not a bad movie, anyway. ^_^
That's my blogging for the day, anyway. ^_^

Listening to/Whining About: Day 1 - So that was the best flight I ever had...
But hey, at least I'm in Texas now. ^________________^
I will never, EVER again be booking with the airline I flew on yesterday. I wish I didn't have to fly with them home, but it's booked and there's nothing I can do about it. >_< I'd name them but for the fact that the actual staff were very nice, it was just the flight package that was absolute crap. The in-flight entertainment was dismal, and they didn't even have those little personal screens most other airlines have. >_< The food was terrible too. >_< I was delayed on BOTH my flights due to the accident outside Manchester airport (no one could get into the airport) and thunderstorms in Atlanta. That said, you can't blame the airline for those. The crappy Transatlantic flight was made a little more bearable by the fact that the guy sitting next to me was equally dissatisfied and we spent the eight hours bitching about things that were just rubbish compared to every other airline we'd been on. :D
But, the staff were nice, so none of my criticism is directed at them.
ANYWAY!! :O I'm in Texas!! Poor Daniel waited for two hours at the airport for me. We were told that the flight from Atlanta that we'd have to take was going to land at eight (my original flight had been cancelled due to weather, and anyway I wasn't going to make it because it took TWO HOURS to get through immigration due to sheer volume of people! >_<) So I called Daniel, told him what I'd been told, then went back to the gate to wait. Boarded the plane...and waited. And waited. And waited. There was a huge backlog of flights trying to get off because they'd been delayed by the weather. Which meant that we didn't even take off until 8pm San Antonio time (9pm Atlanta time). So I wasn't even out of Atlanta by the time Daniel got to the airport. >_<
But I got there, belted out the plane through the terminal and found the bf waiting for me. ^__________^ Much happiness. ^_____^ I'll spare you the soppy details, but we hadn't see each other for six months so you'll excuse a little emotion, I'm sure. ^_^ Got baggage, went to hotel. Found out it was lovely. ^_^
Today we've been really busy. o_0 Had to go to this big government place downtown and apply for a social security card (I don't know why, since I'm not being paid, but it's not my place to question the rules in this country ^_^;;). Went to the museum to say hi to Dr Scott and find out when I'm working, did so and internship begineth at 10am on Monday. ^_____^ Looking forward to it muchly. ^_^
After the business was settled we decided to go to a few of my favourite places around here. ^_^ Mall!! Yaay!! ^_______^ Went to North Star Mall, looked in videogame/anime shops, was generally happy to be in quality shopping environment. Was awed by statue of Auron from FFX in Gamestop. I want. I want muchly. >_< $30 says I can't have it. >_<
Trip to Best Buy after, for looking at more videogames/anime. Purchased Final Fantasy Tactics for Daniel, and Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust for me. ^_____^
...and now we're at Daniel's house and I'm checking email and doing various things I have to do for my internship. Am exceptionally happy. ^___^ Wish you were all here (you could suffer the ridiculous heat and humidity too :P). Speak to everyone soon! ^___^
