In which we blahblah more, and link less. What the hell is wrong with us?

Oh well--it was quite a "weekend". But...We Blog, and so We Link:

Krusty: Origins of an Entertainer
Now the telethon is over, and we reflect further on what is so weird about the whole thing. I think it has to do with the current culture of post-ironic irony and post-cynical cynicism and, in this case, the utilization of these ideologies in "Simpsons" fave Krusty the Clown's savage telethon/Jerry skewering--after you've seen that, it's hard to assess the real thing without going back to Krusty as a reference point. In any case, the Krusty/Jerry scenario is but one idea postulated on the page in question; pause, and reflect.

REAL Celebrity Dirt
While waiting for my paperweight containing dirt from Graceland to arrive (eBay!), I was directed to this site which has pics of soil from all sortsa celebs!

(One time we were at Graceland after having Too Much To Think, and I experienced an epiphany upon picking up a Graceland Dirt Paperweight. The message was clear: this is what it's all about, the end goal...when people will pay dearly for dirt from your residence, after all, where can you possibly go from there?)

Today's History Lesson
is on the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Pay attention; you will be tested at the end of the class period...

No new links 'cause I (like you, I'm sure) have been holed up in a darkened room watching the entire Jerry Lewis Telethon...

...and this year's edition did not disappoint. Wayne Newton may not be there toward the end anymore, but there is always Shecky Greene to take up the slack; and yes, Jerry finished with "You'll Never Walk Alone", although he was experiencing some discomfort in doing so.

(Anybody got any info on the history of telethons? I know Jerry did his first in 1957, and there was one with Bob Hope and Der Bingle five years before that for the Olympic Fund, but that's about all we've found. Thanks if you can help.)

Roll Those Numbers, Ed
I know you're all gearing up for the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon, so here's a tentative lineup of performers. Charo! Norm Crosby, "Master of the Malaprop"! I'm there, dude...wait: where's Wayne Newton?

Keith Richards: Still Alive
"Fuller Up--The Dead Musician Directory" keeps score on who's remaining, and who's gone on to the Great Gig in the Sky. Nicely comprehensive.

Canuck Lysters' Threats Manifest!
"Canadian World Domination". Well, we can't say we weren't warned...

"There's a Bathroom on the Right" -- CCR
The Archive of Misheard Lyrics. Love these things. I remember a person mistaking "More Than a Woman" (Bee Gees version) as "Four Letter Woman". I myself am kinda partial to those four letter women, IYKWIM(AITYD)...

Gimme That Old Time Media Religion
Psychiana: the Media Religion. Nice concept, especially since Frank Robinson came up with it in the 1930's! In the future, everyone will have their own religion...

duuuuuude.
Quotes from that philosopher among philosophers, MTV's Jesse Camp.

"We Met Online"
Yahoo listing of pages by couples who met on the net, like our own T** and T*******!

9.1.99 (new month, whoo!)
Aw roit, another month, another semi-useful collection of links or summat...stuff from august can be found in the LystWorthy Archives, and we'll have the full collection of previous email-only versions there also...eventually.

Our posse gets bigger: Ooooh, LW gets reviewed at Metapita! Dig:

"I don't entirely understand this, but I do like it."

Thank you! This sentence warms my heart.

"Desperately in need of archiving,

done. yee-haa!

"it mentions objectivism, subgenius, libertarians, Dr. Seuss, and evangelism. But some of the links are either tired or stolen."

Well, sure. But isn't that the whole point of a blog? Really now. A blog is stolen links, among other things. (Actually, we cover this in the second paragraph on the right there.)

In any case, we appreciate the props, and shall use the criticism as constructively as possible. It's in our contract.

And now if somebody'll just hand me those links over there...no, not those, THESE:

The King and Karate
Nice little essay on "Elvis and the martial arts".

Put Your Hands on the Screen
Televangelism links. I am thinking of quiting my yob in order to become a full-time televangelist, as it seems quite lucrative and they wear nice suits.

Windows: Insecure? NOOOOO!!!
A pyramid of human skulls is being erected just outside Redmond as we speak...

"Frippin' on the Jim Jam..."
Good news: you can download a King Crimson concert from '96--free! Bad news: "Requires Windows Media Player".

Makes Scents To Me
Realm Fragrances puts pheromones in their colognes, candles, and whatnots...which, as you know, will make you IRRESISTIBLE! Yeah!

Pick a Card, Any Card
It's, like, magic, maaan...it, y'know, KNOWS what CARD you PICKED!

The Truth About ,,oBo,,
Hmmm, some disinformation propaganda regarding ,,oBo,,? An agenda, a Sekret Kall to Arms disguised as a lowly figure skating scoring system?

"In fact, the OBO system is not only even more complex than the current ordinal system, but it does not solve the flip-flop problem, either. The OBO system may even introduce flip-flops that would not have occurred under the current system."

Well, that's kinda what we're hoping...

LystWorthy is an email based weblog that we repost here at Pitas, on a time schedule that varies between pseudo-daily and semi-diurnally...

We get stuff from all over--things we find, news, other blogs, etc. to amuse a small group of malcontents. If you feel like something here was ripped off from you, relax; it's just a blog...otherwise, feel free to just come down here and kill us.

I'm your host, the Doctor; I'm your Doctor, the host. If you have any questions, perhaps you will find answers from the Lyst, or you can always give me a holler; I have been known to reply on occasion.

And stuff.
