Never Subject Yourself...

......to the movie The Sweetest Thing. Mind you , I didn't rent it. My brother's girlfriend wanted to see it because of how bad she had heard it was....but lord...I don't think any of the reviews panned it well enough. There are simply no words to describe how...bereft of anything remotely entertaining or charming or...well of anything note this movie is. It's just....seriously there are no words! DON'T, I repeat DON'T watch this movie! Even for MSTing factor!

Yay! ^_^ On the tape of Music Station I rented, Skoop on Somebody performed "Sound of Spirits". It's a great song, and I really do love Skoop on Somebody as a group ^.^ Plus Spitz performed....and I've decided I've seriously neglected ever really looking into songs by Tube ^^;; I've seen them a couple of times on Music Station and liked their performances, but never looked up their songs. Stupid me ^^v Had to put up with Kat-tun though....they kinda freak me out, and I'm not sure why >D I guess I expect Jr. units to be....younger looking *Lol*

Mom and I are going to see some Greyhounds this Sunday, spefically two of them, who are currently named Slim and Target, though lord knows we'll likely change the name once they get to us. Slim is a dark brindle colored female and Target is a fawn colored male ^^;; Meg and Mom have been throwing names around all evening, and no one can agree on anything :P Which isn't shocking....thank god mom agrees that "Harley" isn't a Greyhound name, which is the name she's wanted for a dog for a long time.

Oh yeah, ^^;; I was looking at a list of the Top 40 Worst Japanese Shows ^^;; they didn't give the top 5, but they gave the rest....and I thank god nothing I've ever really liked is on that list ^^ The only thing remotely close is KamiCen's PuPuPu which I can't say I liked, but was entertained and amused bye, even though it wasn't good *Lol* The other thing I noted was Ikebukuro West Gate Park, which I've never seen but have heard all kinds of things about, both good and bad and nothing in the middle *Lol*

Ashes to ashes, Dust to dust...

So Meg and I had to drop by the vet's office today. One, to pay part off the vet bill, which is quite high (but lower by $117 now)...but also to collect our puppy. We had him cremated and wanted to keep his ashes to bury him at our cabin in Wisconsin (since he loved it up there, and also because he was born in the northwoods so ^^;;...). It's rather odd....we just got the box his ashes were shipped back in and we asked what he was actually in and the woman said "a tin". Not that I thought she was kidding, but yeah....it's a tin. It's bizarre....thinking my lively, playful, mischievious puppy is in that little tin (for their part, it's a flowery tin in good taste). Mom didn't want us to put him on the mantle though...probably doesn't want that constant visual reminder or whatever....so right now he's in the top drawer of our dresser, because there's literally no where else to put him....our room's kind of a mess at the moment so it's the best place we could think of. Mom had to go and pick the tin up and kinda tipped it to one side -.- Meg and I kind of yelped because it made that "ashes-in-a-tin" kind of sound you'd expect but don't want to hear, you know? Grar...well ^^;; Our cousin Eric's carving a rock with his name and a leafy design and hopefully some kind of compass pointing north that we're using as a kind of headstone....but not really...more of a simple gravemarker ^^;; anyway....

Melissa O_____O gomen!! I'm so sorry you've had to sell so much of your manga collection. I do have some I wish I could sell back, but I dunno what I'd do in the event I'd have to sell most of them! ;.; If you have any left I'd want, I'd probably pay you what you paid for them, instead of having to get almost nothing for them (which I understand COMPLETELY. I sold 15 manga back to Book-Off before I came home, a couple of which were NEW and I only ended up getting 400 yen back for all of them) from the book pirates O.O It's just a thought ^^;;

Let's Take a Vote

This isn't meant as a knock to anyone specifically, just a feeling I've been having. For 20 years I had medium to longish hair, and only a year ago in April did I get it mostly cut off and had pretty short hair. Not freakishly short, long enogh that it hangs to my eyebrows in front...but a lot shorter than I'd ever had it. Well, in this last year I've had more grief about it than I wanted. Well, not grief :P I mean, I can take "boy" jokes with the best of them, but it's surprising how no matter how many people tell you it looks good on you, that the few contrary comments make you feel like you made a poor choice. Like I said, this isn't pointed at anyone....I'm just frustrated between the two customers who called me "Sir" (granted, from behind, but still >_<), a comment by someone that I looked like an "ugly boy" (:P *hugs saru*), my mom telling me "I'm ready to see you grow your hair out", and someone else telling me I should.....I'm not mad at these people (well maybe the ugly boy comment was unneeded, but that was by someone who lives far away and doesn't know me), it's just....I'm unconfident about myself as it is sometimes, I just don't need the added uncertainty O.o No one ever called me "Sir" or an "ugly boy" when I had longer hair...and maybe however low maintenance this stupid short hair is, longer hair would be better....

I know, this sounds like a stupid, vain, shallow silent plea for people to reassure me...but honestly I just felt that if I didn't write my feelings out it'd just end up pissing me off more.....

So we're taking a vote. Just put in the comments what you think: Stay short or grow it longer? It's up to you people.

So yeah....someone tell me why I never downloaded Pool Bit Boys songs before? O.O I downloaded three between last night and this morning and holy hell, I really like them. I'd seen their singles at Mitsuwa before...and was competent enough to notice that they're rather...well...extremely kakkoii....at least according to Jamie Standards.

Got an e-mail from Ryota (my host brother) thanking me for sending him a happy birthday e-mail. I feel kinda bad, because I really had intended to send a card, but I kept forgetting until it was too late ^^;; He said no one else remembered! *lol* Poor him. I dunno if I believe him, but then again, with Takahiro opening his own restaurant soon I suppose it's possible. Anyway, Ryota turned 29 so happy belated birthday to him ^.^/

*Lol* So I think yesterday's ep of SC&MK was, to put it one way, pay-off. *lol* It's one of those eps that really reminds why you're watching the show *Lol* Like the poisoned water episode early on in Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman or the episode of X-Files where they go trapsing off to the woods in search of those bugs....in other words, where you get a little pay off for having tuned it. Of course, the shows have other reasons you're watching it...but if your me, you like waiting for the little things that you can take to mean whatever you want *lol*

Gotta go pick Megan up from class~~~~~~~~

Engrish

So last night Nick and Garry were on (another mention of WGN ^.^ God I love that station. I've grown up with it, and can't imagine listening to anything else ^^;;) and they were talking about Nick's girlfriend's (Whose name is Helena) trip to Japan. This discussion ultimately led to them talking about amusing English that's all over....well just about anything there. It's really funny...because on the one hand, they talked about the stuff I'm so used to hearing (like Pocari Sweat, Crunky, Pocky, etc.) that they long ago stopped sounding funny to me, but then they started in reading things (off stuff Helena bought) and I couldn't help but laugh. I think the fresh perspective makes it more amusing, plus the fact they had a bunch of stuff I didn't know ^^;; I wanted to IM him telling him about Hard-Off and Pig Shave, etc. but I was basically in bed at the time.

So had our first meeting for independant study. It wasn't half as nerve wracking as Meg and I thought it was going to be, so we're quite relieved ^^;; We'll have our quiz next week, and we still have to send a tango list to Thomas-sensei that will be part of it, but that won't be too difficult.

So a certain person has gotten me into watching the re-runs of an old '80's tv show *coughtScarecrowandMrsKingcough* It's actually quite a lot of fun to watch ^^;; Cause it's corny and cheesy but it's also funny and the characters are easy to like. At any rate, it's something fun to veg in front of in the middle of the day when I really should be doing school work :P

It's funny, this time last year I was thinking "Man, I can't wait to get to Japan, but I really am going to miss Illinois in the fall" (and it's true, I love falls in Illinois ^^;;) but the past few days have been another bout of "I miss Nagoya" ^^;; I'm sure it's largely due to three things:

1.) It's almost the same time I left for Nagoya last year (Sept. 3)
2.) I got an e-mail from my host parents two days ago.
3.) Hell, I just love Japan in general :P

Well, I suppose I'll look at it this way...I won't get really depressed about it until December 21st, which will make it a year that I haven't been in Japan at all *Lol* so I still have a few months to go before you all get to read the depressing entry that will surely come with the passing of that date ^_-

Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi

So last night on Nick Digilio's Sunday night show (radio show, mind you ^^ on WGN out of Chicago...if you go here you can listen to it live any time ^.^v) he was doing the fall movie preview and one of the three movies he mentioned as being those he was looking forward to was Spirited Away...which is the English title of Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (it's a good title, but one of those where you think "Ahh, they had to leave out a bit of info there" kind of title ^^;;). It opens September 20th, although I don't know when I'll go see it. I've mentioned before I want Tacchan to see it on the big screen, dub be damned *lol* and I don't mind the voices....since I saw it in Nagoya seeing it dubbed once won't bother me that much. One of Nick's friends mentioned Cowboy Bebop's movie is opening somewhere...which is good I guess, since they've shown the series on Cartoon Network it allows people to see it...but I imagine it's not that big a release so...*shrug*

So tomorrow is the first time we're meeting for independant study. Both Meg and I are nervous, because we really don't know what we're supposed to have done, and we know he's going to try using Japanese on us, and even though I know I'm not a complete idiot in regards to the language, my real weakness is conversation and thinking on my toes in Japanese, especially to a teacher :P Case in point: using "kiita" to him today at the Nihongo Kaiwa instead of "kikimashita" U___U grar....hazukashikatta------

I completely forgot about the auction for Wakaba no koro...which is a Kinki Kids dorama from several years ago U____U I really wanted it...it's one that hasn't been on ebay before (that is, not since we started really buying dramas off ebay) and ahem....aside from this series supposedly being pretty good...there's a certain...aherm....fangirl-friendly scene in it that justifies those Kinki Kids douseiai doujinshi *Lol* Well, better luck next time, eh? ^^;;

Hmmm that's about it ^.^v

^______^/

Got a short e-mail from my host parents today! WOO!!! Apparently, Takahiro is opening his own restaurant in September!! How great is that?! ^_^ I'm really happy for him....and I hope this means he can finally move out of my host parents house. I know it's not unusual for family's to still live together in Japan, but he is 30! He'd probably enjoy himself more if he had his own place :P

Also, the Greyhound application goes out tomorrow ^.^ woo! I'm looking forward to this a lot. We still have to wait to get the packet of info back, including this short book/booklet that they require you to read prior to getting a greyhound.

So Meg and I finally started translating our stuff for independant study. Good GOD U.U it's a pain in the neck, especially considering we're late in starting it AND we still don't know when we're going to meet with Thomas-sensei. Grar, komaru--------------- Plus, as I have already discovered, I suck at translating stuff naturally, especially stuff with no dialogue. I'm much better at dialogue U___U

anyway, those are the day's random thoughts :P

Reminiscing

^^;; Was just reading Elizabeth's entry about her short trip to Japan ^.^ Wah, Elizabeth, I'm not sure how you do it, but you know exactly how to sum up my own feelings about Japan and going there and having been there, and how I feel about going back even though you're talking about yourself ^^ Believe me when I say I feel exactly the same way. >D It's the reason I contacted you in the first place ^^;; Cause I read your blog and thought, "That girl really knows how I feel about this" :P Anyway, it was fun to read your thoughts on it and kind of imagine myself back in Nagoya ^.^v

So went to PetCo today to find out a little more about adopting a retired racing Greyhound. Honestly, we didn't find out any real, new info, but we did get some interaction with already adopted ones ^^;; All in all, I'm really gung-ho about the idea, especially now. Greyhound's still look a bit funny to me, esp when they're lying down...but that's simply because I've always had big dogs(as in the round, hairy, big-boned kind), all of which the Greyhound isn't ^^ They're lythe, compact, and dainty looking (even if they're not). I think mom and dad would really like a brindle colored one. They used to have Great Danes and always loved the brindle colored ones ^^ That's fine with me, but Meg and I think we'd like a female ^^ just cause we've always had male dogs...and having just lost North...I think it'd be better for us. But at the same time we want a big one, and males tend to be bigger....so....I guess it's just a matter of how everything works out ^^ You can't be really picky, and I don't want to be ^^ I just want to find a nice dog and give it a home ^^;;

Anyhoo, I know Meg mentioned it :P but one of our friends on the WinMX Channel Japan chat has been teaching us some interesting but useless slang (useless as in, I'm here in the states with no one to use them on, and my Japanese sucks anyway kind of useless)....and last night I learned muzui....which is muzukashii...Not really a very exciting word, as omoshiroi has for some time been omoroi and other such words have come into usage. It's apparently also kind of common these days to turn na-adjectives into i-adjectives....which I can't decide if it's annoying or interesting. It's certainly no help to me getting a handle on the language, but at least I understand well the concept of "na" vs. "i" adjectives that it doesn't throw me off :P I pity the beginning Japanese student that may run into this >D

anyway....haven't gotten an e-mail from Masanari in some time....starting to worry a bit...wondering if my e-mail didn't get through O.o hmmmmmm

Oh yah! Went to lunch with Ayako, Yasuko and Nana today ^^ then took them to the mall! It was fun, even if I have a short attention span for clothes shopping ^^ I like them all, but I think I can get along with Ayako easiest because 1.) similar tastes and 2.) her english is best *lol* I played around with my Japanese, but only short things....*sigh* gah must work harder!! ^_^v Well, gotta get to bed ^.^

Unexpected Surprises

So we made a trip to Akemiya today (had to take videos back after all) and it looked like things weren't going to be very fruitful. But we found a new tape of Gakkou e ikou and the second tape for Ai nante iraneeyo, Natsu and we were browsing all the dramas (I'm still frustrated that they don't seem to have the rest of Golden Bowl) and I looked more closely at one I'd seen there for quite some time but always managed to not pay attention to: Kimi o miagete, which I should have regognized much sooner. It's a short, 4 episode dramas series that Gou Morita (of V6) for NHK back in early spring. Hell, I even have some pics from it that were in a magazine. So, I rented both tapes and'll watch'em....and hope they're good.

The other thing that surprised me was that there was a tape of Hikaru no Go! Once in a while Akemiya gets anime tapes, but it's generally been Pokemon, Digimon, Meitantei Conan...but no....there was the tape, just sitting in the box, unrented. And I was like, "Well, I have to have this", just for the hell of it. It doesn't even matter what ep it's on, since I have up to 17 of the manga anyway ^^ I'm just curious ^.^v

Tacchan !! I'm so happy that you can take Japanese!! ^____^ OMEDETOU!! Honestly, having to take math instead of Japanese? I'm completely and utterly happy for you that you could change it, and get to take a class you like instead of one that's.....well....math O.O

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TALIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyway, that's all for tonight >D

Shocked

O___O So I just downloaded and watched the English trailer for Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi and to my dumbfound amazement....I didn't dislike the voices. Honestly, I think they did a very good job. Haku sounded a little....too boyish (cause he sounds kinda soft and sort of feminine in Japanese, I LOVE that voice >D) at first, but I got used to it, and I think Chihiro's voice is perfect, even if it doesn't sound exactly as ....hmmmm pouty as the Japanese? I was just....completely flabergasted. If you know me you know I dislike dubs as a general rule, but I think this one is going to be very good. Although, I do thank the stars I've seen this movie already, because otherwise I'd just be sitting there going, "But what are they saying?" >D

Top 50 Singles

So I'm watching the Music Station from late June/early July in which they were reviewing the top 50 singles for mid-year (so, anything since January)....and it's really sad how many of the songs I knew :P Granted, I could sing them all wonderfully, but I at least knew them and had heard them a number of times. So out of the 50 possible, I knew 35 of them, and could probably tell both the artist and song name. That's really sad, especially considering I wasn't even in Japan at the time :P But anyway, a few notable songs (to me anyway ^_-) and the number at which they stand for Mid-Year:

*Feel Your Breeze/V6 - 42
*Let's Get together Now/Voices of Korea-Japan - 41
*Again 2/Yuzu - 36
*Hanauta/Tokio - 34
*Mugen/Porno Graffiti - 32
*Strawberry Flower/? - 31
*Nice na KokoroIki/Arashi - 24
*Winter Bells/Kuraki Mai - 21
*Kimi o sagashiteta/Chemistry - 17
*Freebird/SMAP - 16
*Kira Kira/Oda Kazumasa - 15
*Kanashimi Blue/Kinki Kids - 12
*A Day in Our Life/Arashi - 11
*Atsuki kodo no Hate/B'z - 7
*Sakura Drops/Utada Hikaru - 4

Those are the ones I noted as "Hey, yay! I know that one and like it a lot!" *lol*

Anyway, so mom really irritated me last night. We were bleaching my hair and she says to me "I'm ready to see you grow your hair out a little longer"....to which I reply that a lot of girls have short hair. Her reply to that was "Yes well they supplement it by wearing a little make-up".....

U_____U

You know...I'm really starting to get tired of these stupid little make-up comments my mom makes. She's a perfectly reasonable person for the most part, so I don't understand this one. It's not as I act like a guy, or walk like one, or sit like one, or speak like one. I certainly don't look male U__U so what's her big hang-up on this make-up crap? I don't look awful without make-up and I don't want the hang-up. If I start wearing it I'm going to end up dependant on it, like she is. She can't go to the store without make up on. That's ridiculous! And it's not like I'm completely averse to the stuff, I just think it takes time I don't want to spend getting ready. Am I being to anal about this? I don't not use make-up simply because my mom does want me to, I just don't want the hassle U.U

Oh For the Ease of Japanese Pronunciation

Seriously, I had no doubts that the pronunciation of Chinese was going to be a bitch, I just didn't realize how difficult. Of course, my pronunciation of them sounds perfect in my head, it's just once my vocal chords and my mouth try to reproduce that same sound....it all just falls apart. Although I don't think it's as bad as it could be. I'm not saying "jee" when I see "ji" or anything, but it's a far cry from the wonderful sound my teacher makes when she pronounces it. It makes me wistful for the mind-numbingly easy pronunciation that is Japanese. That and I wish Pinyin actually looked like how you pronounce it, but I suppose once I understand how the sounds work it will, since the spelling won't throw me off anymore. Anyway, the people in my class seem really nice, and it's fun...even if I feel like I'm floundering in the water....I feel that way with Japanese too, so it's not that different an experience ^^;;

Katherine , I know you don't want to go back to Japan and teach English (which is funny, since I'm shooting for that...but your Japanese is much better than mine...so I NEED it :P) BUT maybe you can use it as a method of figuring out what you want to do with yourself. I know you don't want to work for a Japanese company, but maybe it'll give you the oppurtunity to talk with some Americans or other foreigners about their own work, and what you can do. At the very least, maybe it'll help clear out what you really don't want to be doing (like teaching English ^_- ). I know how you feel about the whole business thing. My mom wanted Meg and I to take those kind of classes, but neither of us are even remotely interested in that kind of thing, so we haven't....even if it may be beneficial :P Anyway...uhm....this little paragraph was meant to be helpful....but I guess it's not :P

So tomorrow for my world arts: music class, we can bring in a song for people to listen to. Any song, artist...it doesn't matter. Which puts me in an unusual position. I love j-pop. Everyone who knows me, knows that. Hell, if you can't figure it out from my layout you need help :P So I'm absolutely going to take something Japanese. However.....as much as I adore and am an unabashed fangirl of V6, I'm thinking that I don't want the first impression of my classmates of j-pop to be V6 >D....so I want to take something I really like but that sounds good....so I've been thinking Fukuyama Masaharu, Yuzu, Porno Graffiti, Something ELse, and I can decide! Wah......gonna have to sit down and look through our CDs tongiht U.U

Anyway....I'm done for now....any suggestions for tomorrow are welcome, considering I HAVE what you suggest :P

Gakkou ga hajimatta

So I got up, showered, blow dried my hair....I honestly ask myself why....just when I'm getting ready to actually go to class, the sky decides this is a good time to open up. This added to the fact that my brother's car was behind everyone else's and it never starts in the rain....so here we are...Mom, Jon and I trying to push his car into the yard and it's not really working...all the while it's pouring and the fact I even bothered showering begins to be moot. By the time I made it to my first class (Citizens and Governance) I was wishing desperately for a towel. Hell, a tissue would have been nice at that point. My hair was dripping, my jacket was dripping, I was soaked through! But at any rate....it seems like it's going to be a decent class, although with 300 people in the class you can imagine what the grades will be based on: tests. Gyah U.U

Melissa I like the new colors of your blog ^.^ Can't say I love the picture all that much, but plenty of people don't like V6 *points to her own layout* XD

Elizabeth I want to see pictures. Now! >O *lol* Really though, I can't wait to see some ^.^v And yay that you saw so many kakkoii guys at Nagoya Eki ^.^v *beams in pride* *lol*

Rachael *taps foot* don't be a stranger, okay? :P I haven't gotten my pictures developed yet, though *sob* >D Still kind of reluctant to ^^;; Not because of YOU >D mind you...

fwee--- can't think of anything else at the moment :P
