First I want to comment that either Pitas, or my blog is being an ass to me. Every time I put a new entry in it says that it's yesterday O.o I wrote an entry last night (Wednesday) and the entry shows up as being on Tuesday! I don't know why O.O
Anyway~~~ the title of today's entry is an ode to Kimura Takuya's 2002 sping drama Sora kara furu ichi oku no hoshi which I got the first tape of today! Also got tape 1 of Doumoto Tsuyoshi's spring drama Yume no California. Actually, Meg and I have only had the time to sit through the first ep of YnC and the first ten or so min of "SoraKara" so I can't comment MUCH, except to say 1.) YnM seems reaaaaaaaaaallllly odd. Not in that Kimi to ita mirai no tame ni way but in that...."Okay, not really sure what to think of this yet" kind of way. and 2.)Kimura Takuya looks adorable in that hat ^.^v Like a kakkoii train conductor *lol* They had Wedding Planner and Shiawase no Shippo but I figured we could check those out later ^.^ And there're still a couple that I hope they get, especially Kowloon de aimashou!
So Meg and I went to see No Man's Land, a film about the conflict in Bosnia. I think by the time we finished the movie a total of 4 languages had been used ^^;; Anyway, it's about these two soldiers, Nino and Tchiki, one whom is Bosnian (Tchiki) the other who is Serbian (Nino) who get trapped in this trench between the Bosnian and Serbian front lines. With them is Tchiki's friend Tsera who gets trapped on a bouncing mine, which if you don't know is a mine that doesn't blow up when pressure is put on it, but taken off. It is a funny movie, but also sad and sort of punches you in the gut about how meaningless war is, you know? Anyway, it was a great movie, and I strongly encourage everyone to see it if they can!
bwah I shouldn't watch music videos of songs that came out when i was in Japan....music is one of my biggest memory triggers and it inevitably makes me miss Nagoya o.o *sigh*

Full Moon o sagasuna
Seriously! I mean it completely! I have now watched 3 episodes of it and I just....Unless it gets galatically better I don't think I could sit through the rest. It just seems so trivial that all these people are so happy and this girl's going to die anyway. Of course, there's probably some loophole by the end, but I just cannot get into it. PLus, the fact the anime debuted when the manga only began in Ribon this past December. U.U I hope the manga is vastly better, because the anime holds little interest for me.
I LOVEFrontier House!! I'm watching the final ep right now, and I just love it. It really makes me wonder how I might do were I thrust into a situation such as that. I just think it's a great program and a lot of people should be watching it ^.^v
Yes, that's right, you get to hear about Hitotsu yane no shitaagain. I imagine until the day we get the second series that this will be the last :P Hey, I warned you people that once I got home the talk would probably be primarily about Japanese dramas. So either deal with it or don't read my blog *lol* :P~~ I can't help it ^_- This is what I love to talk about ^.^v
Anyway, the names above are the names of the family members in HYnS ^.^ We watched the final episode yesterday. Imagine! A 12 episode drama series! Anyway, I found it really interesting because I ended up loving this series in a different way than I thought. I mean, I knew these ppl had problems...but WOW do they have problems up the wazoo ^^ And yes, the problems are usually solved within the episode, but there's always this undercurrent of something working toward the end, so while it's largely episodic in nature, it works toward a larger end, which is, essentially for the 6 Kashiwagi siblings to finally understand and really accept and love each other, which is the reason I love this series. I'm a sucker for a good love story, but I adore family stories too, probably because I wish my own family were more like them ^^ As Meg put it, someone might criticize this series for it's characters being really kind of archtypes for er...character types, but I think that's the way it should have been ^^ Anyway, I loved this series. A lot!
So I can't wait for Thursday. We're still doing presentations of our papers in my Japanese Culture class, and two people are doing presentations of Japanese animation. XD Sorry to put it this way, but those poor bastards :P They get even one thing wrong and I'm going to be asking about it, especially if it's something painfully stupid as saying anime is only Japanese. Honestly though, I hope they've done a really good job with it, because the last thing I want to think is that two more people are walking around with these funky ideas!
Speaking of anime, I got an e-mail from the anime club here at my university (which I still havent' attended) that says next semester, by popular demand, they're going to be showing Evangelion..........>_____________< Ugh, spare me! I'm sorry to those Eva fans out there, but hasn't it been played enough? I mean, I think they should be showing stuff that most people haven't seen, not shows that have been shown over and over so often they're practically worn out. Okay, it may partly be that I am not at all a fan of Evangelion even if I do respect it, but I think it's a valid complaint. There are plenty of other interesting shows out there to watch aside from that one.-.-
Anyhoo, tonight I watched the program on PBS called Frontier House in which they had 3 families live in a remote area of Montana for 5 months, and live basically how families back in the frontier days would have. Sometime last year they showed a similar program called The 1900 House which took place in England, and I can imagine you can glean from the title what it was about. I find this program really interesting! Fascinating is probably a better word to describe it. It's too bad I missed the first two hours last night, but I'm determined to watch the final two tomorrow. It looks like something that's really difficult, but something I'd be really interested in trying ^.^
Oh yeah, I got to see the video for Arashi's Nice na kokoroiki. It was....interesting. It was funny, because as Meg and I were watching it Megan suddenly goes "Hey! They're doing the electric slide!" and made me stop it and go back just to prove it. :P I liked it though, especially because the one for A Day in Our Life was pretty mundane, IMO ^.^ Also got to hear Kinki Kids' new single Kanashimi Blue and I like it really well! It's not out as a single yet, and I'm wondering if it's used as the theme song for Doumoto Tsuyoshi's spring 2002 drama Yume no California.
Melissa, did you mention one time that you had Chemistry's album "The Way We Are"? O.O I just thought about it today. If you do, is there anything I can do for you to get you to make a copy for me? O.O
All right, I'll shut up now! ^_^

Aishiteru to itte kure (Say you love me)
^______________^v A drama we've been wanting to see for....well...ever :P Okay, not that long, but a very long time indeed. It's ToyoEtsu (Toyokawa Etsushi) and Tokiwa Takako, where she plays a girl/woman who's deaf. It's going to be nice seeing ToyoEstsu smile. I liked him a lot in Love Story and Love Letter, but he didn't smile much. Not that I'm saying he does in this, only that I've seen a couple of screen caps. .......Ok, I sound like a shoujo manga heroine now *lol*
You know, I'm sitting here listening to Saboten no Hana(By Zaitsu Kazuo) and True Love(by Fujii Fumiya), which are the theme songs to Hitotsu yane no shita and Asunaro Hakusho respectively. And it always strikes me how these songs just pull you back into the story. Any songs that are used as drama themes, I mean, especially the ones you really love, like the aforementioned ones, or Long Vacation, Virgin Road, Bokura no Yuuki. I know that the songs for Japanese anime series are incorporated into the series, but I think it's a much more prevalent thing in dramas, where you can hear the theme in 4-5 different versions ^^ *sigh* It's a damn shame more Japanese anime fans don't watch dramas ^^v
Speaking of Japanese anime, so I have Full Moon o Sagashite ep 2 sitting in my computer...watched ep 1 on...Friday? It's based off the manga by Tanemura Arina, who most people know from Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and Time Stranger Kyoko. Okay...my impressions from watching ep 1 are not that great, and this is coming from a certified shoujo addict. If there's one thing I can't stand in shoujo it's the 12 year old girl that wants to be an idol that everyone decides needs to be 16 and adorable, as if the 12 year old idol is a non-existant creature in Japan *coughMorningMusume&Speedcough* I just cannot stand the series' that, by way of magic, transform the heroine into an older age and magically she is able to deal with being 16 instead of 12 U.U Nevermind I find the idea that a heroine who is 12 and has some kind of throat cancer but is more afraid of not being able to sing than of dying a little hard to swallow, pardon my use of words. I dunno, I just find that a kind of turn-off. Like she has no good sense. Granted, I think Takuto is adorable (Shinigami with cat ears, who's a fan of shoujo manga and wouldn't find that adorable?) and I'm not saying it won't get better, just that it has more strikes against it going into ep 2 for me than it has pluses.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh U.U I have a paper to write for my Japanese Culture and two tests in my Meteorology class that I know I'm going to fail... gah, I just want the school year to be over!!!!
ok I'm wandering off now ^^;; Hopefully meg and I can put another ep in of HYnS tonight sometime.

Eat at Puchi Lapin
So we finished watching Oishii Kankei on Wednesday. I know, it's sick how fast Meg and I can get through something when we put our mind to it. I'll admitt we fastforwarded a few scenes...but mostly the one with Kaoru-san and that uhm....one woman ^^ We know what happened there, but weren't that interested. It was fun to see this scene I remember from so long ago played out in the very end! I remember the lighting and everything. It was bizarre! I wonder what we thought then, so long before we understood anything Japanese language related! Megan reminds me it was before we even took our first year of Japanese! Thank god it wasn't a drama like Harumonia that we saw, or I'm fairly convinced we'd never watch more after that! :P
So I rented two dramas yesterday, but only one was a spring one, and not on the top of my list. I knew that I'd seen a tape of Shingo's 2001 winter drama Hito ni yasashiku but after seeing it one time I couldn't find it again. I'm convinced someone rented the whole thing and kept it for a long time. Anyway, it was there yesterday so I snatched the first tape up, as well as the first tape of Nagase Tomoya's spring drama Big Money, plus a two-tape Music Station special. I'm really hoping that the majority of spring dramas will start rolling in next week or the week after ^^ Gotta have something to amuse me once school ends, right?
So I'm turning in 2 final papers for two different classes today, and one would think that I would feel relieved, but no. I have two tests in the same class next week, as well as another long paper due in another class, and this is before finals week U.U komaru~~~~ The worst part is is that I know I won't do well on those tests. I'm going to STUDY, believe me, but my teacher write's tests that shouldn't be seen for a GenEd class, IMO. Not that I don't think we shouldn't be challenged, but there is simply some stuff in that class that I feel should have required a pre-requisite to take the class! grar U.U
Gah, gotta go wake meg up and find food! ^_^

Oishii Kankei ^.^v
Actually, I would like to congratulate Giro for getting VCDs of Long Vacation! I feel a little bad for him because he had to pay a lot more than Meg or I would because he needed subtitles ^^;; gomen ne, Giro! But I'm really happy that this'll be one of his first dorama (I believe Serge is taping one for him right now though). Giro, if you're reading this, you darned well better like it :P I can't imagine someone NOT liking it, even if they're not a love story person. This drama is just so well told. It's not overly mushy and the characters are well fleshed out (as most Kitagawa Eriko characters are ^.^v), and the soundtrack is great! I have one of them (some of the songs have an English and Japanese version, both of which are usually used in it) and I'm especially really happy that it includes "Minami ~Piece of Sena~" (this comes at the end of the drama, Giro, you'll know it when you hear it ^_^). Anyway, I can't wait for him to see it! ^________^/
Melissa *glomp* OMG I'd love you if you copied the W-inds for me! I actually really wanted to buy the album cause I'm silly like that and actually like their singles :P I don't know many Hirai Ken songs (except for Kiss of Life and Gaining Through Losing, both of which I like a lot) but if it's no trouble I wouldn't mind that. Can I re-imburse you? Meg bought Volume 6 when we were in Japan, so don't worry about that one ^_^ It's not as good an album as "Happy" was, but Meg and I especially love "Jounetsu no Rainbow" XD It's just SOOOOOOOOOO....you know, psychotically happy :P And I wish I knew MORE Matsu Takako songs. Have you heard "Hana no you ni"? I think that's really pretty ^_^v I also really like "Sakura no ame, itsuka" *lol* Yeah, TSK wasn't that great...I thought if they were going to put in all those extra characters then Tanemura should have made it longer and I don't know, actually let you get to know them maybe? U.U Well, at least Sakataki's speech pattern was a decent lesson in keigo. Well, maybe no even decent, but at least there :P I can't really comment on vol 2 of Alice 19th yet, since I've really only flipped through it. I really need to go review vol 1 first, I think. I do however, think Furei is kakkoii tho *lol* and I like the way Watase is drawing her dark haired heros (oh wait...that's ALL of them....has she drawn a fair haired hero? :P And I don't mean like SORT of hero, like in Epotoransu Mai). It was funny, because at the con I overheard a girl telling her friend (as she was holding vol 1 of Alice 19th) "You know, I can't read these but I love them!"....and I was wondering...HOW?? I mean, I know "pictures are worth a thousand words", but I still think that's odd. I also heard her say "I wish more of Watase's stuff would come out here" and all I could think was "Thank GOD I can read Japanese". I'm not talking about Watase Yuu's stuff. There's vastly better manga to me, but I just can't imagine not being able to sit down and read a manga. Of course you know I'm far from fluent, but not even being able to read kana???? I can't imagine it anymore. I feel so bad for people that can't and miss out on some great stories ^^
And now, the Oishii Kankei! :P This is a drama I suppose you could say is technically our first :P Even before we saw Love Generation, our friend Jenny had come back from a visit to San Francisco and while she was there she taped some things from the tv, which included the final episode of this drama, only we didn't realize that's what it was. We did watch it however, and to this day I remember only one scene of the very end, so I know it ends well ^_- We're getting near to the middle of it, which means the love story starts emerging to a much greater degree, especially from Momoe's (the main female protagonist)perspective (after all, the manga was primarily from her POV as well). My host brother Takahiro let me borrow his copies of this manga when I was in Japan, so I've "read" it already (wah and I know I missed some things. There was no furigana after all) and it's a series I really like. It's a "Young You" manga, so I'm not really sure of the age range? College at least I'm sure ^_^v Someday I'd really like to collect it for myself ^_^/ Anyway, I'm really enjoying it so far. I love the actor who plays Oda, although I think this is the first time we've seen him in a dorama ^.^ It's the fourth Nakayama Miho drama for me, third for Meg (she has still yet to watch Nemureru Mori).
All right, I have to get to work on my paper ^.^v

Raises, Anime Central, and a Playful Kiss...
Yay having a broad, sweeping range of topics to write about XD Okay, maybe they're not so broad, nor are they sweeping, but I certainly have a few ^.^
My first announcement is that I am getting a raise at my job! Woo! Boo yah to mom who thinks I'm always going to be late when I leave for work ^_^v Granted, I'm only making $7.60/hour and the raise isn't going to be massive, but the point is I'm getting one just because I'm a good worker, and that's highly appreciated ^_^ I have a feeling Ii'm benefitting from the rash of people calling in sick lately, and the fact I haven't, that I'm always on time, and that I actually do work has apparently been noted by the higher ups at the store ^.^v Kudos to them for being observant >:D
OKay wait, before I actually get to my next topic I wanted to comment briefly on my completely and utter irksome feelings I have toward this person @ Animenet.com. Well, maybe not irked....frustrated to the point of tearing my hair out my be a better expression -.- This guy is learning Japanese, and even though he keeps talking about his "teacher" I have come to the conclusion this must be an imaginary teacher. And if not, then this guy is either NOT paying attention or the teacher is awful. I'm not mocking this guy's Japanese, but rather I'm frustrated with his ro-maji. That's right, his ro-maji U.U This guy is fairly convinced that kowai is written kuwai, any time a "yuu" sound is pronounced that it should be written "you", and that this is the hiragana version of ro-maji O.o No matter how many times nor however thouroughly Megan or I have explained it, he still seems to think this is the correct method, and that we are, in fact, somewhat misguided in our own way of writing ro-maji O_____O It was no use telling him he needed to learn a standardized way (such as the Hepburn system) but heaven forbid he do that U.U Anyway...just wanted to get that off my chest.
So SaturdayMeg and left early (7 a.m.) to drive up to Mitsuwa and subsequently to Anime Central. I must say, manga-wise, Mitsuwa was pretty dry this time around ^^ The only manga we got there was one by Kira called Dandara which is being written at the same time as Massugu ni ikou. But, we got five singles ^.^ which were Exile's "Style" and "Song for you" (*sob* they didn't have "Fly Away"...I like all the singles, but I really wanted that one ^^;;), Tokio's "Hanauta", Arashi's "Naisu na kokoroiki", and Gospellers' "Get me on" (er I think that's what it's called XD). I was really hoping they'd have a couple others, but 5 is pretty damned good, I think ^.^v There were a couple mishaps inbetween (as in Justin's van's tire got a hole in it ^^;;) we finally managed to make it to the con around 1:00 p.m. after circling the damned parking lot enough, at which point we got extremely lucky and caught someone coming out ^.^/
Ok ^^ my opinion about actually being at the con. While I've gone one day the last few years and have never actually stayed at the hotel during a con....depending on how Otakon goes I'm not sure I really want to go again ^^ I guess when I go it just makes me feel like I have to compete with other people (although Kudos to me for knowing the Hellsing opening with only ever having heard it once, when the panel of so called "Game Show Worthy" contestants couldn't recognize it) and I don't have to do that in the every day to day. Maybe that's a small part of the reason I love Japanese dramas so much. It's not something I feel I have to compete in since I can actually watch many of the series that come out, instead of having to go here and there trying to find things ^^ Plus...honestly, the behavior of some of the people there weirds me out, which may be extremely hypocritical of me to say, considering what my room looks like, and the opinion of me some people have invariably had upon meeting me...but...I don't know ^^ And I suppose it's fair to say that as much as I love Japanese anime, if this were something like...I dunno, a V6 convention (god, if only XD) then maybe I'd act just as over exuberant (hell, I know I would ^^;;)....or maybe it's just that trying to talk to someone who's convinced they actually are the character they're dressed up as weirds me out. Bwah, if I sound like a hypocrite or trite or rude, I apologize.
Anyway, we bought 6-7 manga there, although I wish to death there'd have been MORE. Nevermind the fact everyone brought the same manga (I think every booth that had manga had Angel Sanctuary, KareKano, DNAngel, Chobits). We walked away with:
1.) Naruto # 1
2.) Time Strange Kyoko 1-3
3.) Gravitation #1
4.) Alice 19th #2
5.) Inuyasha 25 (for Tacchan ^^v)
Speaking of Time Stranger Kyoko...it is a perfect example of why I would never ever be a good reviewer. XD It's a completely predictable manga and, as Katherine pointed out long ago, you know who she's goig to end up with from the beginning....and yet that has never hampered by zest for shoujo manga XD An example of lines I find extremely amusing to read and to repeat to Megan and giggle insanely over are used by Sakataki to Kyoko near the end of volume two. Bear in mind Sakataki is Kyoko's bodyguard, and thusly speaks to hear using keigo (I swear, I scrounging for an Ore. The fact Sakataki uses Watashi all the time KILLS me U.U), which I can't convey properly here ^^;;:
Sakataki to Kyoko: Kyoko-sama wa gozonjinainodesune. Onna no ko wa umareta toki kara, kanarazu dareka no ohimesama nandesuyo.
..............AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!!!!!! >D If that's not shoujo manga "serifu" I don't know what is XD The sad thing is, I totally eat it up, hook, line and sinker. But it amuses Megan and I to read those out loud and giggle hysterically over how corny it is :P~~~
Ah! I bet I got you with that "Playful Kiss" thing, ne? :P I'm refering to Itazura na Kiss. Not the manga, but the dorama, which we got (on VCD) Friday and have been watching since then. I have to tell you, even though it veers dramatically from the story of the manga (except the main plot points) I adore it. Not because it's good (ooooooh no XD) but simply because the girl that plays Kotoko and the guy that plays Naoki I think must have gotten degrees in how to play their characters, because they're perfect. I agree with the person that said it's difficult in the drama to even tell Naoki likes Kotoko at all (this is one of the dramas where I find myself constantly wanting to cry for Kotoko....half because I just want Naoki to show his true feelings and have because I want him to stop being such a jerk U.U But that's how the manga goes too :P) but since I've read the manga, it sort of fills in the pieces for me, so it doesn't bother me nearly as much as it would had I not read the manga. I gotta tell you though, it's a true testmant to "How Pathetic Jamie and Megan Are" when, near the end of episode 8 and Kotoko collapses in front of the place where Naoki is going to take TouDai's entrance exam and he catches and cries her name "Kotoko! Shikkari shiro! Kotoko!!" over and over that we "rewind" it (the VCD) and watch it over....because he's just used her NAME XD I guess dramas and shoujo manga condition you to react to the time where Main Male Protagonist calls Main Female Protagonist by her name, because then you get to squeal in a fangirl like fashion with your twin sister in front of a too bright computer screen in your basement computer room and relish the scene: "Ah you see! He loves her! He said 'Kotoko' instead of 'Omae'! Woo!" This is the kind of thing that makes Megan and Jamie happy fans :P
Goddddddddd, I have to get to bed -.- nemuinde~~~~~su...Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Naisu na Kokoroiki
.....is the name of Arashi's newest single. I'd question why there's another new single out so soon, but 1.) last summer V6 had one out in June and then in August and 2.)That's just how it works sometimes and I certainly won't complain about a new single ^_^v The weird thing is, for some reason on this single, instead of using the kanji for their name, it's being written in katakana. I'd read about that before the single came out, but I still wonder why it's being done that way. I actually don't like it much. I much prefer just the kanji. But then, maybe it's an aesthetic I can't appreciate since I'm not Japanese and haven't grown up surrounded by kanji, etc. *Shrug* But anway, in true Jamie fashion, I love the new single. It's much more typically Arashi (like Kimi no tame ni boku ga iru). I'm not knocking Jidai or A Day in Our Life (which I didn't like at all to begin with ^^), but I guess I'm just the kind of fan that loves the peppy, upbeat songs the best. ^.^v And who can beat a title like Nice na kokoroiki? XD
So tomorrow is A-cen for me. The last 3 years Meg and I have only gone on Saturday (once on Sunday) so we could meet up with our friends from Michigan, which is still our basic intent. ^^ Next year I'm really thinking about going for the whole weekend though, as I have now had 3-4 people telling me it's much better. I totally believe that, it's just that Meg and I hadn't really thought about going to the whole thing before. I only hope that there's some decent manga left at Mitsuwa U.U And that I can find a few of the singles I've really been wanting to buy (like the newest singles for Tokio, Exile, Skoop on Somebody, Arashi, etc. ^.^). Speaking of Skoop on Somebody, I leave you with the lyrics to their song "Sha la la" which was out when I was in Japan. I love this song ^^ It's one the most reminds me of my time in Japan, and while the lyrics are corny, I like them anyway ^_^v

A now....the Rebuttal
...To what? I'm sure you're asking. Well, 'tis a rebuttal to Giro's current entry, in which he includes an argument about the word Otaku. If you don't want to read my thoughts on the subject, I suggest ya skip it ^_-
*rolls up sleeve* Okay, Giro, you were basically asking me to shoot you down here XD So here I go. :P
My first opinion is that practically everyone who would be at a convention here knows what a "gopher" both really is and what it is figuratively (because of the play on words). They understand that to be a "gopher" at a Con or at anything means that you run around getting and doing stuff for people. My dad, in his 5th grade classroom, uses the word. My point here, is that they already know this, because they know the language. They get the joke without needing it to be explained to them.
My beef with Otaku is that the VAST VAST majority of Japanese anime fans using this term simply don't understand what it means. I've said time and again I don't disapprove of the usage as long as the person using it knows what it means. These so-called otaku don't even know the real meaning of the word they're using, and yet insist on calling themselves that. And do I think people who call themselves otaku have an obligation to learn a thing or two about Japanese? You're damn right.
Let's say we decided that the way to call someone a huge fan with no life in English were Complete Nerd. If the Japanese suddenly decided to pick up this title and use it instead of otaku, and used it to describe fans so obssessed with something they have no other life, I would expect maybe those people called Complete Nerds would at least learn what that expression meant in English. If they decided they still wanted to use it, even knowing what it still meant, and how they would sound walking up to a English speaking person saying "I am a Complete Nerd for Hamasaki Ayumi", then that's fine. As long as they knew what it meant.
The problem is, I'm sick and tired of people who take no responsibility with Japanese or the culture of Japan. They claim their such big fans of Japanese anime, but they couldn't tell a thing about the culture, nor even the true meaning of this word they're using to describe themselves. I don't care what it means to American Japanese anime fans when too many of them won't even lift a finger to learn more than that word. They're such big otaku and yet they won't even learn more about the country from which Japanese anime comes from. And from my side of the fence, all that I have learned has made watching it that much more enjoyable because I know why certain things happen because I know things about the culture.
When it comes right down to it, I feel those fans that call themselves otaku so flippantly, but couldn't tell me what it really means, deserve to hear me rant about the importance of learning a thing or two. Sure, not all fans have an obligation to go delving into the language and culture, but otaku by the inherent meaning of the word are so obssessed with something they rarely, if ever, leave their house, and one would think they know a thing or two about the thing they're an otaku of, when the truth is more than do, don't. Nevermind the fact, lots of so-called otaku think the word is solely meant for Japanese anime, when that couldn't be further from the truth.
Sure, maybe I'm anal about it. But like I said, I'm sick to death of people using words and saying things about Japan when the fact is, they simply haven't taken the time to learn a thing about it. All they care about is "What's new" and it drives me insane ^_^
Okay....so that's the end of my rant about that....for today :P If Giro offers a rebuttal I shall be happy to reply ^_^ I wanted to talk about the end of Kizudarake no Love Song anyway ^_^v
I went and got the last 3 tapes yesterday, because I had to see it, and since it's closed on Wednesdays, I knew that if I didn't go I'd have to wait until Thursday. I don't like going to Akemi-ya by myself unless it's Thursday (when I usually go @ about 11 and there are other ppl there) because the son of the woman who runs the place always seems to have had a little too much to drink U.U He doesn't act inappropriately, it just makes me nervous.
Anyway, so I watched the end ^^;; Sat for five hours (well first 3 and then 2 when I came home from work) watching it. By the end I'd decided I definetly really enjoyed this series, even if it was basically predictable and had standard characters. I really liked Nakashima Mika (even if she had an easy to play "tough girl" part) and Takahashi Katsunori (got his name wrong yesterday ^^), and I thought they had really good chemistry together. Thing is, I really wish they'd sort of ended up together, because the characters really seemed to care about each other. I don't know how old Takahashi Katsunori's character (Yoshimura Kousuke) was supposed to be, but in real life he's 38 (born in '64) and I'm pretty sure that Nakashima Mika isn't more than 20, and her character (Shimazaki Mirai) is no older than 18 U.U *sigh* So my basic opinion is that maybe someday in the future? It wouldn't have been right in the context of the show anyway, but I sort of feel like the ending leaves open the possibility ^^;; The drama itself sort of plays with my head, since they call each other Mirai and Kousuke >O Don't play with my hopes like that, dammit! *shakes fist at the drama's author*
Btw, thank you Lauren for the adorable e-card you sent me XD It was really cute and adorable and fully appreciated ^_^v It made me smile ^_^v The Sad Cow is happy :P~~~

Further discussion of Kizudarake no Love Song...Continue Reading At Your Own Risk~~
Believe me when I say I completely understand that basically the entire purpose of creating this drama was as a stage for people to get to know who Nakashima Mika is. I think if you go into watching this thinking anything else is true, you're either1.) A novice drama watcher or 2.)incrediably naive XD or 3.) both >:P Anyhoo, knowing that and accepting it, I'm completely enjoying it.
This isn't to say it's doing anything new. Hardly ^^;; It's basically about this guy named Yoshimura Kousuke (played by Takahashi Katsumori...I think ^^;;) who works as the tenchou of a ramen shop. Five years prior to this he was a singer for a label called...Global Sound (I believe...see how well I pay attention? ^_-) but because of a transgression (that I still haven't caught. Drinking maybe? ^^;;) he was kicked out. Since then he hasn't had anything to do with music and has tried to move on with his life. Well, by chance one night he comes upon this girl singing "Amazing Grace" to herself where she thinks no one will hear her. The girl is Mirai (played by, gasp, Nakashima Mika! :P) who is your basic drama plot tough girl. She doesn't go to school and hangs out with a group of other young people who basically cause a lot of trouble.
Well, once he hears her voice, Kousuke has to find this girl because he think she's good enough to become a kashu. He loves her voice so much, in fact, that he wants to write the songs she sings. At first she doesn't want anything to do with him, but after a bit he finally convinces her it's something she really could do.
Of course there are other complications: Mirai's money grubbing mother, Kousuke's sister Yuka who's determined to make sure these two don't find success together (there're other reasons), and the typical drama corporate bad guy (well ok...at least he has grievances with Kousuke's behavior in the past). I gotta say, if I didn't have a reason to dislike Katou Ai (who plays Yuka) before, I do now :P Not that I hated her, she was just one of the two girls that're on Gakkou e ikou and sit in the studio and DON'T DO ANYTHING, and not that I dislike Katou Ai herself exactly, I just despise Yuka =.= (I especially dislike that her name is Yuka :P Since that was Tokiwa Takako's character's name in Long Love Letter)
Anyway, it shouldn't be a shock to those that know me to know that I'm completely and utterly enjoying this drama XD It's no award winner, but I'm stil having fun with it. The one goofy thing I really love is a part where Kousuke is writing this song for Mirai, but because of circumstances in the story he gives up on it and crumples the paper up. Mirai finds it (I'm not explaining how, too long :P) and when she goes to meet Corporate Producer (different from Corporate Bad Guy person :P) she asks him to play it for her, since she can't read sheet music. When he does play it, we realize the song is actually "Stars" the theme of the drama itself, but also Nakashima Mika's single of the time this drama ran (last fall). XD I was like "That is so insanely stupid I love it!" ^^ God, I'm easy to please.
On other subjects....I post at this one place (where it's sad cause Meg and I are pretty much the most knowledgable ppl (Frankly, that's scary), and this one guy was complaining because apparently Hollywood wants to remake Akira. Not to say that I think it's a good idea, but not much being a fan of the movie anyway, and hearing how much better the manga is, I'm not inclined to really rant over it. So I told the guy, well, shouldn't he also consider that when manga is adapted into anime, dramas or movies, that often times the story is messed up, too? I swear to god a certain faction of the Japanese anime fanbase refuses even to consider that Japan does this as often as Hollywood does. No matter, say, that I think I MUCH prefer the drama version of Hyouryuu Kyoushitsu (Long Love Letter as the drama is known), it's still a vastly different version from the manga. Countless drama and anime series have drastically veered from the original story, and I think too many fans choose to ignore this, or just plain refuse to LEARN that U.U It's my biggest pet peeve with other Japanese anime fans. The "Pedastal Factor" drives me INSANE ^^;; *calms down*
well I think I'll go rent the rest of KDnLS

#________# Oniichan no koto...
>_____< Am I horrible person? Earlier this evening I was walking through the living room and my older brother Jon asks me "How would I go about teaching English in Japan?" and being the person I am, I'm not going to lie to him, so I told him to check JET or Nova's homepages. The thing is, this infuriates me more than I can convey. Japan doesn't belong to me, of course I realize that. But ever since Megan and I first became interested in Japan, it has always been our thing. Our passion, Our goal, Our territory. For seven years now, Japan and Japanese things have, for the most part, been our world. While my brother, on the other hand, has made bad decision after bad decision, wracked up debts, had countless jobs, and seems to quit everything that he decides he doesn't like. And now to have him encroaching on what I essentially feel is my territory, it makes me so angry I just shake >_____< I feel like he just wants to go to make money and run away from not being able to put his life straight here. Ok fine, not everyone goes to Japan to teach English because they love Japan. I get that....but AGH!! >__< yurusanai!!! >__________< And then for him to tell this to my mom and grandmother and aunt and they're all "Well that's such an exciting idea", as if this hasn't been in our (Meg's and mine) head for years now! As if this is suddenly a new idea! arggggggh....It's stupid to say Japan is my territory but dammit it IS. It's something I love and have a passion for, and Jon just wants to do to get away from responsibilities and troubles here >_________< UGH!!!!
It's sad when even ranting doesn't help U.U ok I gotta switch comps XD

Yoshida Kyodai
Okay, I haven't mentioned them before (they're first names are Ryoichirou and Kenichi, btw) because while I've heard of them, (and like everyone else, think they're kakkoii):P I never remembered to download any of their songs ^^;; Well tonight I did (downloaded "Slower", "Tsugaru koharasuji", and...uh...I forget the other one) and I'm glad! Not only did I really like all three songs, it's good to know that these two aren't popular just because of their looks, but because they're unequivocally talented. If I didn't want so many albums/singles already I'd seriously consider buying "Move", their second album. I suppose I'd buy the first one, but it's only 30 minutes long ^^;;
So it finally happened :P Yuki (ok I have now seen his name spelled 3 different ways #.# Someone help me out here) of EE Jump got booted! Apparently he was found in a strip club drinking alcohol. Meg thinks he wanted to get kicked out, since he was suspended in the first place for taking off from something because he didn't like the pressure etc., that fame brought. *shrug* I'll buy that. At 15 I'm sure it can be overwhelming. I just can't figure out whether it's more because of the pressure, or he's just a 15 year old little jerk :P *lol* Or both.
FINISHED MY TAXES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDd WOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm done!!!!!!! And they're in the mail! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YATTA~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!!!!!
Okay, well I'm going to go watch more Kizudarake no love song! ^_^

Kizudarake no Love Song
First off I have to thank Katherine for explaining what the darake in words meant ^_- Kizudarake no Love Song is a fall 2001 drama, that stars Nakashima Mika and ...uhmm I don't know what his name is ^^ I'll have to say later. Anyway, for those of you that don't know Nakashima Mika is a singer, and I first knew of her from last fall when her single "Stars" was released. I love that song ^^ Anyway, I didn't pay much attention to this drama once I got home, and just rented the first tape and taped it a while back. I watched the rest of it today (the rest of the first two eps) and while it's not fantastic, I think I may rent the whole thing, unless it just goes freakishly downhill from here :P I like the main actor, and I'm a sucker for a love story XD
I hate doing taxes -.- It occurs to me, do the exchange students in Japan have to do them? O_O How komaru and all that? But I was just doing my federal income tax form tonight (I know, not last minute or anything) and if I did it correctly I may well be getting $440 back O___O How sweet is that? It'll probably end up going to help pay my loan back. I can just see myself OWING the Illinois state government though =.= *drops bricks on unsuspecting Illinois state government*
I'll probably write more later? XD Hopefully meg and I'll watch more of HYNS

Just when you think things are normal...
...in the drama you're watching. Not that I should be thinking it's normal ^^;; I've heard before that parts of Hitotsu yane no shita are either a little dark, or odd *lol* Although the Japanese Drama Database lists it as one of the top ten drama of all time ^.^ (after watching this, I'll have seen 6 of the 10). Anyway, as I was saying....you think things are going relatively normally until you get to the end of ep 6...where An-chan has found out "Jasmine"-san is in fact going to marry this other guy and he's all sad and depressed and Koyuki goes after him O.o And she tries to comfort him and ends up saying she likes him. Her brother! @.@ Okay, now Meg and I already knew prior to this that this was coming, and we also knew that Koyuki isn't their blood sister....but ah, I don't think SHE knows that. Added to this is that Masaya follows her and sees all this, and then we get the nice preview for the next ep where Masaya says he likes Koyuki *.* Fwee~~~~ we're in for an interesting ride!
One interesting thing I did discover is that the actor that plays Fumiya (a character who, like Kazuya, I'm really liking in this series ^.^)-Yamamoto Kouji-is the seiyuu for Hanazawa Rui in the anime of Hana Yori Dango. I know that members of SMAP (Kusanagi Tsuyoshi and Katori Shingo), TOKIO, and Utada Hikaru have done voice acting (I'm sure there are a lot more I don't know about, and I'm not talking about the dubs of Disney and other movies ^^;;) but it's still funny to think ^^ Actors/Actresses being singers and vice versa I'm used to, but being seiyuu seems funny to me. But he has a very nice voice. I really like it! He definetly sounds like a seiyuu.
Woo! Rented a tape of Gakkou e ikou, which had the two hour spring special (aired a couple of weeks ago or so). I always hate it when they leave out the "Miseinen no shuchou" on the specials, but they entirely make up for it with the "Doko e ikundesuka" Game. Aside from the MnS it's my favorite segment. They did it once in America, and it just about killed Meg and I. Those girls did not know how lucky they were, and I have never in my life, wanted to live in California until that time *lol* This ep's game was pretty good ^^ It's always amusing for one of the teams to have to end up going to Oosaka or somewhere far off. I was really glad because Okada and Inohara were together (our favorites!) Of course...they lost and Sakamoto and Nagano won (yay for you Talia :P Oh yeah! At the beginning they ran into this woman who said her kids loved Ultraman!! ^^ Go Nagano!!)
I meant to write more, but I'm tired and must get to bed ^^v Ja~~~

Niichan to imouto no namida
Thank you Giro for archiving for me! ^.^v Anyone that knows me even a little knows that I am an idiot extraordinaire when it comes to anything to do with computers, and since Kiripin wasn't on tonight, and Giro volunteered I let him do it :P Lucky him, eh? :P~
Anyway, you may want to know what the heck my blog entry title means :P It's the third episode title forHitotsu yane no shita, a Japanese drama which first aired in 1993, and the second series in 1997. Meg and I have wanted to see it for quite a long a time, but she made a good point in that it's nice to know whom most of the cast is. ^^ Of 6 leading characters, we've seen 4 in drama already ^^ (Eguchi Yousuke, Sakai Noriko, Ishida Issei, and Fukuyama Masaharu). It's funny seeing them look so young, and especially hard because I think we'd really like Ishida Issei as an actor, but he's had some drug problems in a last few years ;_;
Anyway, we're into ep 4 now and I'm really enjoying it ^.^v Okay now it's a little while later and we just finished episode 4, which is about Masaya (played by Fukuyama Masaharu ^.^ MASHA! ^_^) finally coming to live in the house with the rest of his siblings (named Tatsuya-Eguchi Yousuke, Fumiya-Yamamoto Kouji, Kazuya-Ishida Issei, Koume and Koyuki-Sakai Noriko....No, of course there's no pattern! :P). Their last name is Kashiwagi by the way. Not that it matters, that's merely a side comment.
Anyway, one thing I loved about this ep (aside from all the family stuff ^.^ I love sibling stories) is when Tatsuya goes to see the guy who's taken care of Masaya since their parents died 7 years earlier and basically asks him to give their brother back ^.^;; and then things don't go well and Masaya bursts in and starts using ore XDDD Prior to this, any time Masaya spoke to the guy it was always with boku and Meg and I were just sitting there like "Go Masaya!! You ore him!" *lol* Why some people think you don't miss stuff with dubbs, I'll never understand >D
Anyway, next ep is about Fumiya, who has been sitting relatively silently in his wheelchair this whole time, except in ep 2 when he yelled Abunai to Kazuya before a ball hit his (Kazuya's) head ^^;;
Oh yeah, today I downloaded and watched the first episode of Tokyo Underground. I bought the first volume of the manga while I was in Japan, but I ended up selling it back. Not because it was bad or uninteresting, I just needed room for the manga I knew I really wanted to keep ^^ I wish I'd kept it now. Anyway, I can't really say whether or not it was good. It was, after all, just the first episode, which means it was primarily character introduction. So from that respect, it was definetly fine. It's weird though. There's a female character who is the Inochi no Miko (named Ruri) who is like....the typically hero-anime helpless female protagonist type, who of couse the male protagonist thinks he likes....and I think this is the same type of character that people who aren't fans of shoujo manga often stereotype shoujo manga heroines as being ^^ That is to say, helpless and overly girly. Of course I wouldn't agree, I'd just say Ruri's the typical action hero-anime female protagonist >) Of course...there's always Chelsea to combat Ruri's over...girliness *lol*
gah, it's late! I gotta go to bed!! ^.^

Hey! I've invaded Jamie's blog! Well, not really. This is just a test to see if the archive process really worked. You can find some of her old stuff in there now. At least the index page is easier to load...archive regularly!
