KIMOI
Listening to:To Feel The Fire/Rag Fair
Hmmm, yeah, so I really like a manga of Aihara Miki's that's currently running in Betsucomi called Hot Gimmick, and Meg and I have collected a couple other series of hers (one being Seiten Taisei, a great series), but...yeah....her older "series" (it's only two volumes, both of which have extra one-shot chapter stories) Oya ni wa naisho is....well, best put "kimoi". I dunno what it is, but Aihara Miki definetly has some liking with brother/sister things =.= BUT, at least in Hot Gimmick they're 1.) Not really related and 2.) the brother has always known that (like in Hitotsu yane no shita).
But in Oya ni wa naisho it's just like BOOM, chuugakusei 3nensei younger brother likes Koukou 1 nensei older sister, who at first likes her classmate Minami, but for the sake of (theoretically) storytelling, she eventually figures out she likes her younger brother!
So I'm sitting there, fully expecting to find out at some point that they're not actually related. I'm watiting.....waiting....and it never comes =_________= At least in Angel Sanctuary there's something of a reason for it, or in Marmalade Boy they didn't grow up together and had no idea (and ultimately discover they of course, aren't) but.....ewwwwwwwwwwwww It gives me the bad kind of goosebumps! X__________X
I suppose you could say I'm slightly more attuned to really disliking the whole kyodai thing because as a twin it really pisses the hell out of me to see people write stories like that about twins. Like those weird individuals that write Weasley twin slash fics. It disgusts me that people can't understand that the bond between twins is something not at all like that, that people think two people can't love each other without it being sexual. It completely debases the twin relationship (and, I think, the sibling relationship) to write crap like that. I love my twin sister with every fiber of my being, but I certainly don't want to sleep with her.
Anyway, for those of you that don't know that Katherine has used my pic of Ichigo from Bleach for the layout for her translation page. So go there and check it out ^o^/
Kira! Like I said, don't worry about your manga thing right now =) Meg suggested that perhaps you might be trying too hard. That is, forget about finding translations or understanding everything you're reading and just sit and read it for just fun. You'll glean more info every time you read it, and then reading translation's will just clear things up, instead of having to depend on them completely. It's a great way to enjoy it and still learn without having to depend on something.
But if it's not just a funk, don't worry about it. It doesn't make you less of a fan of things Japanese certainly :P And it's absolutely a chance for you to broaden your horizons =)

Happy Belated Birthday...
Listening to: Counting Flowers on the Wall/Eric Heatherly
....to Lauren!! It's the big 'ol 1 * 6 * !! Bwahaha! The street's are safe no longer (and I don't mean for Lauren >D!!!) Anyway, Happy Belated Birthday, Monkey ^o^
So I got an e-mail from my host parents today ^_^ My host mom's retiring in March (she's an obstetrics nurse) and in June my host brother Takahiro is getting married to a girl he works with at his restaurent (that he opened last September) ^_______^ I wonder if it's the same girl I met at the French restaurant my host parents took me too on my 21st birthday, that Takahiro was working at as a chef at the time. Actually, I think they'll do the whole entering their names into the family register thing pretty soon here, then have the wedding ceremony in June, and the the hirouen (reception) in August.
The best part is that my host family is happy to have Meg and I come visit, which means...well, now that I know they're definetly okay with it, I have to go! I'm only a little worried about saving money up till then and not knowing exactly when we'll graduate and how soon after I graduate will ISU decide to start demanding it's money :P Plus saving money for when we go back to Japan to teach AND wanting to buy a laptop for when I do. Grar, money will never cease to be an issue though *lol* I just know this is something I want to strive for and it'd be great to see my host parents again ^________^
Shows you how much of a dork I am about my host parents that I smiled a stupid, really happy smile to see my host dad had signed the e-mail "kawaii musume e" >D God they're great people!!!
Bwahaha, so Meg finally finished watching the first ep of Itsumo futari de and is now suffering from the same symptoms I am: desperately wanting to see more! =)
*watches When Harry Met Sally* God I love this movie U____U I'm such a stupid hopeless romantic!! Although I really believe in the spirit of the movie. That is to say, that you marry your best friend. I think you shouldn't marry someone unless you consider them your best friend. I honestly can't fathom spending the rest of my life with someone I wouldn't call my best friend.
I must hear about Bleach 6!!! ;______;

Itsumo futari de
Listening to: the sound of the space heater :P
U________U All I have to say is, Akemiya had damned well get ALL of it *points to subject line* I'm not even through the entire first episode and I know I'm going to like it. Yay Matsu Takako and Sakaguchi Kenji! This series has me immediatly thinking of Akane and Souta of spring 2002's HaruRanman....except Hoshino and Hacchi are osananajimi ....which of course, being the well read shoujo manga geek that I am, know this to be the Perfect Romantic Drama Vehicle >D And appropriately, Hacchi has a crush on a girl @ work, all the more to make we the audience wonder just how Hoshino and he will end up together :P
Mind you, that's not what the immediate goal of the series is :P Hoshino didn't go to Tokyo to chase an old school friend. She went to become an author, but was scammed into believing she'd won a contest, when she really had come in 6th and basically got nothing for it. So she can't go home and face the shame (cause the guy stole 3byakuman en from her, her grandmother's savings) but, gasp, lucky for her good old Hacchi lives in Tokyo and is, even bigger gasp, a little bit famous and well off and has one bad ass apartment in which he lives with his brother....AND it just so happens that, you guessed it, there's an EMPTY ROOM AVAILABLE! Dear lord, I couldn't see that one coming could you?!
Damn if this series isn't lucky I love Drama Cliches >D Actually, it seems to be a decently well written series, so even if there are somewhat cliched elements to it, it's fun to watch because the characters are so likable, and you want them to succeed.
Anyway, Akemiya better get this series, or there's gonna be some hell to pay >D

Listening to:Let's Get Together Now/Voices of Korea/Japan
So Gryff has been adjusting pretty well. However, about an hour ago when I was scratching his neck I noticed this lump. O.o Now, he's had a physical within the last month which he passed, and none of us rememeber seeing this thing until today. I damned well hope it's not something....you know. I already had to put one dog to sleep this year, I'm not ready to do it again. ;.; Keep your fingers crossed for him ^^
So the other day I borrowed volumes 1 and 2 of Worldend Fairytale from Jason the other day. And dammit, I really want volume 3. I haven't read through volume two carefully, although I have skim-read it, and I really like the story. I love that there's a set of twins in it, although honestly, Manaka is a hell of a lot more interesting a character than Yui is. I swear, there's nothing I find more boring in a series than demure, quiet shoujo manga girl *coughRyoukoinLongVacationcough*
Speaking of things I don't like, I finally downloaded and sat through the final episode of the anime of Pretear and woo, I knew there was a reason I was dreading to watch it. Good god was it overly melodramatic and wholly unlike the manga....that can sometimes be a good thing, if it's done correctly, but here it just wasn't. I just think they totally effed up a good series with unecessary plot changes. That, and I never did like Takako because she's the bad kind of shoujo manga crybaby (see Yui, and yes, there can be a good kind :P) and I felt bad that a great guy like Sasame gets stuck with her forever!!! I feel for you Sasame!! I guess it's a good series if you think you got gypped out of Hayate not breaking through his emotional barrier much in the manga. But ew, too much of it here. There are Times and Places for that and I felt it was done well enough in the manga.
Also finally managed to download ep one of Get Backers which for some reason no matter what I play it on is always slightly off time, but I watched it anyway. Enjoyable enough, although I know it begins differently than the manga series does. Fortunatly for my nit-picky self I've only read two volumes of it, and it was long enough ago that I don't remember much. It was enjoyable enough for me to try and find more, I think.
Also finished reading the one shot Ai no tame ni which is a one-shot (well, a collection of short stories) manga by the same author as Sensei. It was extremely cute and fluffy and limited in emotional investment, which is nice when you're used to following long shoujo manga series like Hana Dan, KareKano, SekaKira, HanaKimi, Koucha Ouji, Renai Catalogue, Sensei just to name a few.

Karaoke, Remote and a New Dog
Karaoke was a BLAST ^_^ As I knew well that it would be =) I thought it was great that Kira's mom came with us >D and Kira even managed to get her to sing one song, albeit quietly >D cause the rest of us sang loud and obnoxiously ^^ I'm trying to remember some of the songs we sang: Wa ni natte odoro, Ookina furudokei, Ashita ga arusa, Itsumo nandodemo, Asatte wa Sunday, Minna de wahaha, Ding-dong, Aisareruyori aishitai, Traveling, Agehachou, Saudage, Koko ni iruze, among many others. And I have to say, Meg and I did a damned good rendition of EE Jump's Ikinari Rythym! >D That was the most fun I think >D 'cause Meg and I are complete dorks!! >D
Anyway, of course before going to karaoke we went to Mitsuwa ^^;; Only spent $36 there, which for me is mindbogglingly low. I usually spend at least double that ^^;; I bought Ragfair's new single, which includes an a cappela version of Asatte wa Sunday, which makes me happy ^^ Also, bought Hana to Yume from a few weeks back. It's actually the one before another one I've seen the end of, but I haven't seen this one, so it doesn't bother me a bit. ^^;; But I gotta tell ya, my heart goes out to Nakao-kun! ;_________;
Also bought a random one-shot manga by the same author as Sensei. Actually, I didn't even realize it was by the same author until I started reading it ^^;; But I also bought volumes 3 and 4 of Remote which I discovered was something of a mistake. It has...hmmm somewhat more fanservice than I'd like ^^;; Of course i realize when they put manga like this or, say, GTO and Psychometrer Eiji into drama form, any real fanservice gets taken out >D I just didn't realize with this one how much >D I'm sure the manga's a fun story too, but the fanservice is really off-putting! Anyway, I'll look through them again.
Also bought one other manga, which I currently forget the name of but I knew the author was the same as Global Garden which runs in HanaYume and that I've always been interested in reading. Thing is, when I was looking on the front inside cover where the other series by the same author are listed, it lists Please Save My Earth!! Someone needs to clear this up for me....did this author help write it? because the drawing style looks nothing like it, IMO, but it's right there on the inside cover!!
Speaking of Remote >D What we were able to do, was rent the final tape from the used bookstore, take it back with us and make a copy at Kira's, and then she took it back today! We were planning on making a copy of Go, as well, but I messed up the taping of Remote and as a result we didn't have the time ^^;; So that'll have to wait until next time! But I did get to watch the end >D And while I basically knew what happened from other people, I'm semi-irked >D Does it mean she'll eventually marry Shingo? I hope not U_U because...dammit...I'm a stupid shoujo manga fan and well, certain things have to happen! I know it's not based on a shoujo manga by any stretch of the imagination, but still!! Although admittedly, I feel slightly bad for Shingo >D but they didn't flesh his character out, so I didn't feel TOO badly ^^;;
W00t!! We got our new dog ^.^ We re-named him Gryffin...or Griffyn...I'm not sure which way we're spelling it :P He's pretty shy right now, but having Blue here has obviously helped already ^.^ He's slightly smaller than blue, but good lord, is he sinewy looking :P I forgot that was basically how Blue looked when he first go here, but while he's kept most of his msucle, it's obvioulsy not the tone he had before we got him. Blue's going to have to teach him how to play though :P But Blue didn't know how to play very well when we came here, either ^o^ so I have every confidence that this one's going to "grow" into a greyt dog ^_^

New Greyhound and Generosity
Listening to:Wild Style/Coming Century
So the final decision has been made: The Thompson family is getting another greyhound ^^;; Maybe it's a little selfish of Meg and me. Getting Blue was great after North died, but he's really become mom's dog and that's been hard on us. So we wanted a dog that'd be more ours. I know that sounds bad, considering we plan on leaving for Japan through JET or whatnot by the summer of 2004, but we know our mom would take good care of the dog we get, and we're paying for everything. If you want to see a picutre of him, it's here. Right now his name is Carl, but you know as well as I do that that name is getting changed!
So was surprised by something in the mail today ^^;; Masanari sent me something extra for my birthday :P A little late, but hey, as a girl with a birthday so close to Christmas, it's fun to get something when it's not your birthday ^^;; Anyhoo, he sent me a music box that is not a music box (I dunno how else best to describe it :P). It's of Rapyuta with little figures of Pazuu and Shiita and it plays the theme of the movie!!! ^___________________^ Plus, a necklace that looks like Shiita's in the movie, and a towel with the robot embroidered on it ^o^ ARIGATOU GOZAIMASU, Masanari!! m(_ _)m
Woo~~~ Going to karaoke tomorrow!!!! I just hope we don't get stuck in any Friday afternoon traffic!!!

About a boy
Listening to:Something to talk about/Badly Drawn Boy
......Came out on video/DVD today ^o^ It's a fantastic movie created from an even more fantastic book. I saw this in the theater before I ever read the book, but the order doesn't matter much, because the movie follows the points of the story wonderfully and keeps the spirit of the book intact and whole. I'm a sap though, because when Will says that Marcus is the one thing that matters to him, I get all "awwwww" and girly U_U Yes, I admit it, I am a great, big, humongous sucker for things like that ^^;;
We ate lunch with Hyejin yesterday, and she brought back for us the first two volumes of a Korean manga (manhwa if you want to use the Korean word) called The Kingdom of Winds. Don't ask me to try and tell you the Korean title, as I can neither pronounce nor spell it ^^;; Of course, this also means that I can't read the thing either, but I have a native speaker of the language to tell me about it, and I was curious about Korean manga anyway ^^;; Hyejin also said it's one of her favorite series, so I think it's fun to have in that respect ^.^
So I have finally had all the classes (save independant study) I'll be in this semester and holy shit (pardon my language ^^;;) is it going to be 1.) reading intensive and 2.) writing intensive. Tests aren't really a big deal because for most of the classes I just have to write papers or the tests are take-home or open book/note. But holy hell do i plan on doing a lot of reading and writing.
Another interesting thing I discovered: my university has no less than two anime/manga related! O________O And we discovered this completely by accident. Meg and I were buying books and I had to get my student ID card out so I plopped my stack on a shelf nearby to get at it, when we noticed the other books around it. Bowled us completely over. And it's not some 100 or 200 level class, it's a damned 370 level class! O.O It's not really a big issue with me to take it though. I don't feel like tracking down the number or going to talk to the teacher to try and get in....because as interesting as it might be, I don't really feel the need. I think if perhaps they offered it during the summer when I may try to finish school up, then I'd take it, but otherwise *shrug* I'd almost rather just buy the books on the shelves and read them rather than having to attend a class ^^;;

The World's Most Un-Thorough Fan
Listening to:WGN Radio on the Net
This thought has been in the back of my mind for some time now, but I've only recently really acknowledged it. I am just one hell of an un-thorough fan. That is to say, when I like something, I'll love it to death, but would I be able to tell you the minute details? Hell no! Not even with the things I love the most: shoujo manga, V6, dramas, fantasy books. Nothing! Inohara's favorite food? I haven't got a clue! Who wrote the drama Hitotsu yane no shita? You're guess is as good as mine! Piers Anthony's newest book? Wouldn't be able to tell you under torture.
My point is, I can't figure out whether this is good or not *lol* I'm perfectly happy being the kind of fan I am of the things I love, but at times (especially being a fan of things Japanese) it gets frustrating. The minute details aren't that important to me, but I guess it's kinda of like the Anime vs. Manga thing to me. If you're a fan mostly of anime and you don't read much manga, those kinda of fans tend to disreguard manga fans. I mean, it doesn't matter how much manga you know, if you haven't seen the anime version of xyz series, it doesn't matter (Although, to be fair, I'm kinda that way with a lot of manga series ^^;; If someone says "I've seen "?" anime series" it's really more important to me if they've read the manga).
So I guess what I mean is, the people that know all the minute details kind of frustrate me. Because it sort of makes me feel like I'm somehow less of a fan, when it's just that I don't care about the minute details, and I don't feel like I should feel obligated to know the little details either :P
I got a new book tonight! :P My tutor's been having me translated stories from a series of pocket books called Hanashi no rousoku and I just finished up #1 tonight, so I got the second one, which instead of being a nice, unobtrusive brown, it's this hideous lime green color *lol* Not that I really care at all, I just got used to my brown book! I think I should have photo copied it though, since I've been realizing many of these stories are probably well known in Japan. I know Kachikachi yama is a well known story in Japan, so it lends to the fact others are probably well known, too. By the way, you should read the story. It's kind of twisted, but fun ^^
Speaking of my tutor, she says I'm getting much, much better with my accent in Japanese ^^;; I think Japanese is a great language in that it's pretty easy not to sound like a completely clueless gaijin, but it's also difficult because if you don't pay attention to the accents that's all you'll ever sound like: a not completely clueless gaijin. I find also that the last few weeks I've been speaking more, which is good *lol* I know I said not too long ago that I don't much, but I have been more. Which is good. Even if you screw up, people respond to confidence ^_-

"You've got health and strength--both of which, coincidentally, I prayed for after hot lead was shot into your body." Donna to Josh, Guns not Butter /The West Wing"
Listening to:What If I Loved You/Joey Gian
It was a great episode this week, in my opinion. It's weird how lots of people seem to say that West Wing has gone down this year, when I think it's easily been better (or perhaps it's better to say I've enjoyed it more) this season, than last year. I loved Donna in this episode, and especially the scene between her and Josh near the end was nice ^^ I wonder what Sorkin's doing though, with Zoe and Charlie...he takes pains to have Charlie try and show off, and includes a scene between Bartlett and Charlie with the president saying how he's on Charlie's side in the whole thing. So I hope there's promist there, too.
And lest anyone think it's only the relationships of the story that interest me, I really can't wait to see how this whole pilot thing plays out. I'm inexorably glad to have Danny back. There was a spark missing with banter for CJ I think, that was only partially replaced during Simon's short duration on the show. I actually forgot how much I liked Danny until he came back, and I'm really glad he's there now. I only hope he doesn't just leave again suddenly :P
Anyway, I did finally finish A College of Magics and I have to say, I loved it.......except for the MASSIVELY HUGE CROCK ENDING. It wasn't a bad end, mind you, just....Well, I'd say if you'd ever read a book called The Eye of Night by Pauline Alama I could equate it to that (only reverse :P). Let's just say I'm not entirely pleased with what happens to Tyrian in the end, and that no, he didn't die ^^;; On a side note, every time I saw the name "Tyrian" it made me think of a character in one of my stories named "Tynian". It was somewhat distracting =.= But it was a great book, despite finding an aspect about the end somewhat irksome.

"You must form your own fashions in a way which demonstrates that you flout the standards from knowledge, not ignorance"
-A College of Magics by Caroline Stevermer
Listening to:Shimauta/The Boom
It's a great quote, isn't it? I was reading this book last night and that line really struck me.
Started watching the Kouhaku last night ^^;; Had to trapse all the way back past where I work to borrow the video from someone we know, but that's fine ^^;; It's a shame my boys aren't on, nor Kinki Kids, nor Arashi, but I'll take the people I like that're on, and we're only half-way done with it as it is! They did this neat tribute to old classic Japanese anime. It was great, even if most of them I was only familiar with by name and picture and not by theme song ^^;; The only point at which I wanted to throw something at the tv was when they played that inane fish song that I forget the name of but goes "Sakana, sakana, sakana". It's one of the few things that make me glad I wasn't in Japan last spring, when that'd damned song was so popular.
Received a compliment last night that renewed fractionally my faith in my ability to learn and retain Japanese ^^;; My tutor told me that one time after I left my lesson her younger daughter (The younger sister of a girl Meg and I used to be good friends with) Hana was asking her who had been at the house and she (my tutor) replied that I had just finished my lesson. Apparently Hana couldn't believe this because she thought it was some Japanese person! O.O Honestly, as happy as I am to hear that, I think Hana must be thinking this because my tutor does most of the talking, not me! *lol* *Lol* Maybe she heard me when I was reading the story (Kachikachi yama) outloud. My spoken Japanese might be awful, and my accent is far from perfect, but I think I sound fairly not too gaijin-esque when I read :P
Haha I just got a reply from my Japanese teacher about independant study. It seems that there's a departmental (or perhaps school-wide) rule that students aren't allowed to do independant study twice with the same teacher. However, apparently my teacher has given little heed to this rule plenty of times before and has, to use his words, "never been called on it". *lol* Oh that it holds up this semester as well. I really think the general university policy regarding independant study is garbage anyway. We're not allowed to do more than 6 hours total, which is crap. I'm doing it because this stupid university doesn't have any more formal classes, not because I'm trying to get out of work or anything. If anything, I do more work with this than the formal class!
Well, new ep of West Wing on tonight ^_^v
