Don't Tell Kris or Serge...
Listening to:Together/Exile
...but I'm starting to think Hiroshi Abe is not so displeasing after all. Yes, ack, I actually wrote that *keels over* Meg and I started watching the Takeuchi Youko/ Hiroshi Abe spring drama Egao no housoku (I know, the name is riDICulous, in which Hiroshi Abe's character (Sakurai Reijirou)hires Takeuchi Yuuko's character to be his assistant for 3 months, while he stays at this ryokan trying to find some inspiration for writing (he's a mangaka).
And....despite my better judgement and all natural instincts, I find myself liking his character. I think it's because for once in a series I'm watching him in, he's not acting somewhat over the top, which tends to be off-putting for me. Meg and I did notice something kind of interesting. His expressions and gestures are at times
very Hugh Grant-esque, and it's kind of creepy >D
Anyway, we'll see how this series goes....lord knows there are still plenty @ Akemiya Meg and I just haven't been able to get around to because of our freakishly busy semester ^^
Finally watched Ice Age for the first time last night, and I thought it was pretty damned cute >) I'm still trying to figure out why Mandred was going north...was it because of what happened to his family? That is, was it basically that he didn't care and would have rather died? They never really explain it, and it's the best answer I can come up with :P I have to say though, I'm a huge, huge sucker for stories like this ^^ A buddy kind of story...
I thought at first that Ray Ramano's voice didn't fit at all, but it just took a couple of minutes to get used to, and then I thought it was great, perfect for the character, actually ^^;; Gotta love the anachronisms that abound in it, though *lol* Reminded me of Disney's "Dinosaur" in that respect, because while some worked, some felt really out of place for the time the story is supposed to take place in. STILL, I really enjoyed it ^.^/

New Layout-age! Thanks to Jenna again, of course, the Godess of Layout Making ^O^/ Anyway, this layout features Naru and Chiaki, the protagonists of Nanji nayamu koto nakare, which translates to something like "Thou shalt not be troubled" ("nanji", btw, is how you say "thy" ^^;;)...the characters attend a missionary school in Japan, which explains the title ^_-
The series centers around Hikono Chiaki, who has to attend a missionary high school against his will, and ends up boarding at the house of a friend (Kotarou, altho he treats the guy kind of like a lower life form in the beginning :P like a jock would a dork), who's living with his uncle who's a priest and teacher at the school. Also living there is a girl whom Chiaki mistakes for Kotarou's uncle's daughter.
Anyway, her name's Naru, and she speaks with a lisp in Japanese (saying things like "gozaimashu" etc.), and she's really nice, but at times seems like she's not quite there. Well, near the end of volume 2, Chiaki discovers he's come to LIKE her, again against his will....and it's how their relationshop developes, espcially when we discover Naru's incredibly troubled past and why it's so impossible for her to have a relationship on the level that Chiaki would like.
Maybe it sounds really typical, but every time I re-read the 4 volumes I have (I think there are 5 total), it really moves me. Especially Chiaki's struggle to understand why Naru is the way she is, and how he can strive to help her ^^;; It's also VERY VERY funny, believe it or not!

Kawaisou na Jamie
Listening to:Country Roads, Take Me Home/John Denver
Okay, I now officially am an idiot >D Because I'm thouroughly enjoying watching Kimi wa Petto! Well, to be honest, there ARE aspects I could care less about (like the typical manga ploy of "other woman likes "akogare worthy" Hasumi-senpai, who I don't like much anyway), but for the most part I'm stupidly enjoying the Momo/Sumire scenes. They of course border on the bizarre, because you have to ask yourself "Okay, what?! Why! huh?" but once you remind yourself it's based off a manga, you can just go with it. If you don't, the whole thing is going to seem utterly ridiculous (well, admittedly it does anyway, but remembering it's based on a manga makes it palatable).
But I really wonder how it ends. I have this sneaking suspicion that ultimately Momo's presence is necessary for bringing Sumire out of her sort of cold shell that she's built for herself, and that in the end it's being with Hasumi-senpai (I can't help it, "senpai" are USUALLY the guys I don't want Main Female Protagonist to end up with. I'm hard pressed to think of a drama series where I adovocated Male Senpai ending up with Main Female Protagonist. They're usually there for Akogare-ing over) that's the goal.
But of course, I sit there going "Woo! Momo x Sumire" because I'm a complete idiot >D Ah, so fun!
Speaking of Sumire (who's played by an actress just called "Koyuki")....when we went to see Reloaded the other day, they had the trailer for the Tom Cruise film The Last Samurai (which personally, I think looks beautiful) and I sat up in my seat because I really thought a woman in one of the shots looked like her. So I went and checked web pages, and finally on a Japanese page for the movie, I found it, and sure enough, it's her.
It completely weirds me out >D It's still weird enough for me to see drama actors and actresses in Japanese movies, but to see them in Hollywood movies, that is just crossing the Bizarre Line for me!! To think that she shot The Last Samurai with one of Hollywood's leading men, and then stars opposite in a spring 2003 drama with Arashi member MatsuJun. It's just....the two images just don't gel >D Oil....water....Tom Cruise....MatsuJun...you can see how it's like two N ends of a magnet trying to come together.

For Your Viewing Pleasure
Listening to: tv (Law & Order, 300th ep! woo!)
>D Click on the subject line there >D It's courtesy of Jenna. Cracked me the hell up :P
Anyhoooooo, went with Meg and Jason to see Reloaded today. Before I make my compliments, I want to know what the hell we needed to see Neo and Trinity do the deed for. Were we uncertain of their love? I mean, I don't care, I'm not THAT prudish, I just didn't get it >D Seemed sort of needless, if you ask me (but I liked all the OTHER kissy scenes, rest assured. I am a woman of simple pleasures >D!). The other problem was that at a few points the way the CG animation was done didn't look as real as I'm sure the creators were hoping for ^^;; Kind of like when you watch the first Harry Potter and you see the centaurs or the Quidditch scene where certain shots look computer generated ^^;;
Anyway, other than that I enjoyed the hell out of it, even if some of the stuff they discuss in it makes me tilt my head and go "Huh?". Although in all honesty, having taken a Buddhism class I think really helped. Far less confusing at least in the respect of how they were talking about things, even if not necessarily what it all meant. Not that I care about every little detail, as long as the ending comes out correctly (I can leave the full philosophy critique to other people).
Ohhhhh yeah, Meg and I got our grades yesterday. As suspected, I did pretty well, A's in Chinese, Japanese Civ, and Independant Study (Japanese), and B's in History of Modern Japan, Buddhism, and my Illinois related class. My cumulative GPA is @ 3.38, which believe me, I'll happily take :P And considering I took 19 hours this semester plus work (combined with the fact I'm a lazy ass) I'm pretty damned impressed I actually pulled those grades off!
And finally, my bill came from the credit card company for the plane tickets. They're probably going to be disappointed I'm paying for the thing in one fell swoop >D haha Take that Credit Card Company! Your efforts to charge me interest are thwarted!! bwahaha!!

Tally Ho!
Listening to: *waiting for them to run the Preakness*
Woo, mom and I drove over to Peoria today to go see what the Sighthounds Abound thing was all about today. We knew it was lure coursing with greyhounds, and we knew that a bunch of other dogs would be there, but that's about it. I thought originally that this was the kind of thing that only dogs who were trained to do it specifically would do, but that's not the case at all.
Let me see if I can adequately describe the set-up. There's a big grassy field (this one was fenced on two sides), and along the field they run this cored that's run under stakes but not so tightly that the cored can't move, because at the ends (which are in the same place) are attached to this motor. Attached to the coreds are , for lack of better terms, plastic bags that are sort of shredded at one end.
You take your dog up to the line, take the lead off, and the "lures" (a.k.a. the plastic bags :P) start to go...the guy next to you shouts "Tally Ho!" (well, in THIS case, I dunno if that's traditional, *lol*), you release their collar and BOOM, the dog takes off like hell around the field chasing this "lure" from one end to the other. There's really very little chance of any of the dog's getting away, because the chasing of a lure like this is not only ingrained in them as sighthounds, but most of the dogs there are rescued racers, which means part of their training for the track probably including something like this. They all go NUTS when they see the lure going around the field and they're not the ones chasing it ^^ But I swear, watching a greyhound at full speed is truly a thing of beauty! It's breathtaking!
It was great fun ^.^ Plus we met other grey owners and some other people we knew, and the dogs get a chance to socialize amongst their own *lol* The best part though, was after both Blue and Gryff went (Gryff did it twice), we took them over to the baby pools they have filled with water, to help cool them off. Well, both Gryff and Blue stepped into the pools, and promptly proceeded to lied down. >D!!!!!!!!! It was hilarious! And you're damned right if you think I took pictures. Too much to resist!
Another chance for a Triple Crown Winner!!!! Yay! Funny Cide won the Preakness! It was a fantastic race, if I can say so, being the kind of person who loves horses, but the only races I ever watch are the Triple Crown races every year (Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes). It was great though, Funny Cide completely left them in the dust down the backstretch, pulling away something like 10 lengths! The place winner wasn't even close to beating him. I just hope he performs as well in the Belmont. I'd love to see my first Triple Crown Winner, lord knows there've been several chances in recent years that didn't pan out ^^;;

Down With Love
Listening to: the tv
So, yeah. Meg and I went to see Down With Love tonight. Hmmmm...interesting movie, I must say. I can't entirely say what I think about it...because I'm not entirely sure what I think about it. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it....but the twist I certainly as hell didn't see coming >D I suppose what I think is that once the twist comes, I wish there'd been more to the movie after that...because before the twist you know what is all about, but let's just say you don't know what she is all about, so I guess I feel I didn't know her character well enough :P Anyway, it was and "I'm not sure movie"....one too many sexual innuendos tho >D They're funny up to a certain point, then it gets old....must be HELL to translate though, come to think of it...
grar, I had more to write, but it's slipped my mind.

Oh University Writing Exam, How I Hate Thee
Listening to: Omae ya naito akannen/Sakuraba Yuuichirou
So yesterday I get a letter in the mail from my universtiy's English office with my results for the university writing exam, which is this ridiculous test they make everyone take (and that you must pass) to graduate.
Now, you must remember, English has generally always been a strong suit of mine, especially comprehension. However, this is, as advertised, a writing exam. The set up of which is, you read an article. Then, you summarize the article, then write an essay in which you oppose, support or elaborate on said article. Then you got back and mark what you possibly see as mistakes you may have made in your spelling, grammer or what not.
Let me remind you I have gotten through 4 years of college so far, getting reletively good grades on papers. I've never done worse than a C, and the majority have been A's and on this asinine writing test I got an 8/15 (well it was written "008 out of a possible 15)!! >__________<
It's RIDICULOUS! This test has absolutely no resemblance whatsoever on the kind of papers I have actually written in 4 YEARS OF UNIVERSITY. None! At all!!!!! And this stupid piece of paper ridiculously suggests I take extra classes to help me improve my writing. *snort* Thank you very much, but considering on most of my major papers this semester(as in most semesters) I received A's, I'm hardly feeling like I need the extra help. #$@$%#$%^&*&)&%#!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ANYWAY ^^;; The season finale of West Wing was last night ^^;; I thought it was pretty good, although I doubt if there's a consensus on that ^^;; No J/D stuff, but they aren't exclusively why I watch the show anyhow. I loved Toby (yay Molly and Huck!), but I wish Charlie had been in it more. For as much as they've been pushing Charlie's storyline about trying to get Zoey back, I was a little disappointed in how little he was in the episode. But I guess when it comes down to it, you have to push the episode title (which was Twenty Five, in reference to the 25th Amendment), and that they did. At any rate, it'll be interesting to see how they handle the season premier, and how it'll be written, considering last night's episode was the last Aaron Sorkin wrote (he and ...er...Tommy Schlamme? are both leaving)!
