I'm leaving on Wednesday.
Monday, August 30, 1999 at 04:42 p.m.
All my friends are back in school, but I'm sitting at home. It's not quite as thrilling as I expected it to be, but it does make me feel somewhat important. In two days, my parents and I will begin the 24-hour drive from Mobile, AL to Washington, D.C, stopping in a few quaint, New England-y places along the way. On Sunday I'll go to orientation, and everything will start for real on Monday. For those of you who have no idea what this is all about, I'm going to be a page for the U.S. House, which basically means I'll be running errands for 40 hours a week. I'll be living with two roommates in the O'Neill Building, and going to school on the top floor of the Library of Congress Jefferson Building (pictured below).

Hopefully there will be some interesting news once I get there. I've gotten so used to the idea of going that I get very annoyed by people asking me if I'm excited. Well, of course it's exciting, but it's also just a part of my life now, and one that I no longer get all worked up about. (I complain a lot.)
