You know, the whole world is fucked up. Is this another case of alarmists making a bigger deal than necessary? Or is it yet another sign we're digressing culturally? Or both? And in HP news, it seems that they will be making GoF into one film instead of breaking it up into 2 like they'd originally planned. So let's all cross our fingers that they won't fuck it up too badly.... and that the DVD has like 5 hours of deleted scenes. -_-
I was vastly amused to read this column on MSNBC News about Demi Moore and Ashton Krutcher being just one of the many, many relationships in Hollywood between older women and younger men. Here's an excerpt: "In 2000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than one in 10 marriages was between older women and younger men. Older women don’t need to be concerned with childbearing, they’re economically secure and they can flaunt their sexuality without consequence." Looks like I just need to become a movie star. Then people won't think I'm sick; I'm just ahead of the times! ^_~
I'm sure you are all wondering why I am taking the time (everyday) to update you on Ahnald's California campaign, as I live in Indiana. It's because I feel it's a reflection of the current political environment of our country. Think of it as a... working example. This morning, MSNBC News reported that Schwarzenegger is gaining an early lead in California's governer campaign. As stupid as I think this is, I didn't take it too seriously (the furry panties get me everytime) until I read a Slate column that attempts to recall to the public's memory Schwarzenegger's support of a former Nazi party member. Do you not begin to question this?
*snicker* Looks like they haven't forgotten Ahnald's furry panties after all. And while this is not entirely related to furry lingerie, I think this speaks for itself. Thanks for the link, S. Oh, and I can't forget Harry Potter and the Magic Campaign! edit: Awwww, fuck it. I'm going to go out on the limb here and post an e-mail I got a week or so ago. I forwarded it to some of you, but while I'm bitching about politics some more, I might as well stick it in. Again, if you don't like my politics, too bad, but I won't apologize for posting something that I think is important. "President Bush has announced his plan to select Dr. W. David Hager to head up the Food and Drug Administration's Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee. The committee has not met for more than two years, during which time its charter has lapsed. As a result, the Bush Administration is tasked with filling all eleven positions with new members. This position does not require Congressional approval. The FDA's Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee makes crucial decisions on matters relating to drugs used in the practice of obstetrics, gynecology and related specialties, including hormone therapy, contraception, treatment for infertility, and medical alternatives to surgical procedures for sterilization and pregnancy termination. Dr. Hager's views of reproductive health care are far outside the mainstream of setback for reproductive technology. Dr. Hager is a practicing OB/GYN who describes himself as 'pro-life' and refuses to prescribe contraceptives to unmarried women. He is the author of As Jesus Cared for Women: Restoring Women Then and Now. The book blends biblical accounts of Christ healing women with case studies from Hager's practice. In the book Dr. Hager wrote with his wife, entitled Stress and the Woman's Body, he suggests that women who suffer from premenstrual syndrome should seek help from reading the bible and praying. As an editor and contributing author of The Reproduction Revolution: A Christian appraisal of Sexuality Reproductive Technologies and the Family, Dr. Hager appears to have endorsed medically inaccurate assertion that the common birth control pill is an abortifacient. Hager's mission is religiously motivated. He has an ardent interest in revoking approval for mifepristone (formerly known as RU-486) as a safe and early form of medical abortion. Hagar recently assisted the Christian Medical Association in a 'citizen's petition' which calls upon the FDA to revoke its approval of mifepristone in the name of women's health. Hager's desire to overturn mifepristone's approval on religious grounds rather than scientific merit would halt the development of mifepristone as a treatment for numerous medical conditions disproportionately affecting women, including breast cancer, uterine cancer, uterine fibroid tumors, psychotic depression, bipolar depression and Cushing's syndrome. Women rely on the FDA to ensure their access to safe and effective drugs for reproductive health care including products that prevent pregnancy. For some women, such as those with certain types of diabetes and those undergoing treatment for cancer pregnancy can be a life-threatening condition. We are concerned that Dr. Hager's strong religious beliefs may color his assessment of technologies that are necessary to protect women's lives or to preserve and promote women's health. Hager's track record of using religious beliefs to guide his medical decision-making makes him a dangerous and inappropriate candidate to serve as chair of this committee. Critical drug public policy and research must not be held hostage by antiabortion politics. Members of this important panel should be appointed on the basis of science and medicine, rather than politics and religion. American women deserve no less." You can draw your own conclusions, but I'm sure you all know how *I* feel about this.
I just finished re-reading His Dark Materials. It really is one of the best book series I have ever read. Up in the top 5 of my favorites. It's just so profound. I can't wait for Lyra's Oxford to come out! It comes out in October. I heard they're going to do a film of it due out in 2 or 3 years. I am not happy about that. There is no way in hell they can do it justice. HP is one thing- that is easily adaptable to film. I don't think Materials will be so easily adaptable. They think they may even make it into 2 films instead of 3, and it will be "a general interpretation." -_- *sigh* Oh well. I wonder what my daemon would look like...
Check out the trailer for the new Peter Pan movie, with Jason Isaacs as Hook. I think it looks surprisingly good. And come on, Jason Isaacs in velvet and young boys in scanty clothing? What more could a girl want? *halos*
I am SO vastly amused, people. That's right, furry-panties man is running for governer of California! *dies lauging* I can just see the campaigning now...
Conan for dictator! And my favorite, the oppostition. Stop animal cruelty! No fur for panties! I'm sorry... I know that Schwarzenegger is known better for roles besides Conan the Barbarian. It's just the most ridiculous... though all of them are pretty fucking stupid. In seriousness, I think he's a terrible role model, all those violent movies he's been in. And just because you're famous doesn't mean you'll be a good politician. Just look at Regean... oops, did I say that out loud? You're damned right I did. Oh, and thank you S for correcting my information about the Episcopal issue. I still think the whole situation is messed up. I see your point- the church has a tradition it should be upholding (no extramarital sex). However, homosexuals aren't allowed to married, and we all know Bush is determinded to keep it that way forevermore. So there is a dilemma here. I guess we'll just have to see where it goes from here.
First of all, a disclaimer. Everyone who reads this knows my political views, so if they offend you, don't read it. I haven't really posted anything political in awhile, so here are a few of my thoughts on what's been going on lately. I read 2 columns on MSN this morning. The first was about Bush's "InnerFaith" prison program, and how the results were purposely skewed to make it look successful when it actually isn't. Duh, people. Why do people actually believe this bullshit?! And has Bush never heard of a little government precedent called SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE?! Obviously not. Very very very obviously not. Just look at every other fucking policy the man promotes. Which leads me into my next article, about the new Episcopalian homosexual bishop. Now, I'm not Episcopalian, and never have been, so if I say anything wrong, PLEASE correct me. I don't want to be misinformed. But isn't a religious leader, such as a bishop, supposed to be celibate? IF that is true (I know it is in the Catholic church, but I'm not sure about the Episcopal church), then why the fuck does it matter if s/he's gay or straight?! Seriously people. Why is this such a big fucking deal?! It shouldn't be an issue AT ALL. *sigh* This goes back to the "morality" of gay marriage, and that stupid law that Bush is trying to impliment. IT'S A NON-ISSUE... or it SHOULD be, anyway. The act of marriage, that is to say a ceremony, getting a licence, etc., is superficial. A marriage should (ideally) be between people who have a deeper connection than that, you know, like love? And if that's the case, then it doesn't matter if you're gay or straight or bi or whatever, because if two people have formed a bond, then that's the end of it. A law isn't going to prevent that. Why shouldn't EVERYONE have an equal opportunity to express the love they feel for someone else? Oh yeah, right- because the effing WASPs are soooooo open-minded and tolerant *rolls eyes*. So once again, thank you Mr. President, for showing your concern for upholding what our grand Founding Fathers established our government FOR- come on everyone! Chime in!- SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. < /rant >

GUESS WHAT I ORDERED!!! Betcha can't!! A WAND. From Alivan's. And it comes with a house scarf of your choice. *_* I would be worried that you think I'm a psycho; however, everyone who reads my blog is already aware of that fact, so you're probably just sitting there shaking your head thinking, "That poor, sad headcase." P.S. I got the Holly wand NOT b/c Harry has one, but because it's the wood that's aligned with Aries, my sign. P.P.S. Kiss my ass.
How cute IS this?! Anyway, I had a (mostly) fun weekend. Kyle and Aaron came and stayed the night on Friday... and of course, made fun of me the entire time. If it wasn't my apartment, it was how I drink. If wasn't how I drink, it was my facial expressions. *rolls eyes* With friends like that, who needs to be self-critical? I bought some DVDs this weekend too. I haven't treated myself like that in awhile, so it was fun. Anyway, that's about it. Nothing else to report except that I wish it weren't Monday, and I can't believe it's August already.
Read this very, VERY cool article about Mars in August. (S, I think you will be especially interested in this, if you haven't already heard about it... though you probably have!) Is anyone else amazed that it's August tomorrow? @_@ And some time-wasters courtesy of Ly. ^_^

Yesterday was SO great! My very, very good friend Amanda B. came to Indy to see the David Gray concert with me. We spent the whole day window shopping and talking about everything. It was great! We had lunch with my mom, and that was fun! And the concert was AMAZING. David Gray isn't my favorite singer or anything, but his stage presence was just amazing. His voice really lends itself well to the stage. I can honestly say he was one of the best live performances I've ever seen. edit: There's another article on PoA here. And this one is non-political. Enjoy!
Check out this GREAT article about PoA. I am dying for that movie!! And note the great Emma/Dan pic at the top of the article. It's Protective!Harry. *hearts* *_*
This weekend, my friend Tristan and I went to the Exotic Feline Rescue Center. There is something very surreal about being a foot away from a lion's very toothy mouth. It was very cool, though. I am definitely donating money to them, though I'm not sure I'm going to volunteer to feed raw animal carcesses to hungry cats that weigh over 500 pounds. We got to pet a cougar named Pesha, though! It was neat. King, the lion who was on "babysitting" detail (the mother was asleep, so he was watching their baby, Lauren, who was soooo cute!), decided he didn't like a bunch of strangers being near his baby girl, so he roared at us. I won't lie- I jumped about 3 feet in the air. He was literally a foot away from us, and the only thing separating us was a very flimsy bit of wire fencing. Their white tiger, India, was gorgeous too. She's going blind though, which is very sad. You wouldn't believe some of the stories they told us about these poor animals. It just reinforced my belief that people are wretched beings. Overall, it was supremely cool. I think lions are my totem animals. ^_^
I REALLY need to come up with more creative titles for my blog entries. They are sad. I finally archived, which I've been needing to do for awhile. At some point soon I want to change my layout too. Unfortunately, I need time and web access before I can do that. -_- What kills me is that I'm not very busy in the evenings! My computer just doesn't want to work with the damned network at home!! Grrrrrrrrr... it makes me mad! I can't believe that Ara and Amanda K. are leaving for Nihon (er, that's Japan for people who don't know Japanese XD) in a few days! I am so happy for them, and proud of both of them. GANBATTE you two! I love you! And if you don't send me postcards, I'll never forgive you! Drink a ChuHi for me when you get there. ^_~ This weekend is going to be fun, I think. Tomorrow morning, my friend Tristan from work and I are going to the B'ton farmer's market, and then we're going to the Exotic Feline Rescue Center outside of town to see the big kitties! Lions, and Tigers, and Leopards, oh my! And we're going to sign up to volunteer there, too. I am so so so so excited! I've been wanting to go there since I learned about it 2 years ago. Big Cats are my fave animals (which some of you know! ^_^), and the idea of getting to work with them excites me to no end. Then tomorrow night, I'm hopefully going to hang out with Aaron and the Stones, and on Sunday maybe see Ashley! And then on Tuesday, Amanda B. and I are going to a concert! So I get to see a lot of my friends this week, and I am thrilled I got to see Amanda K. and Ara, as well as hang out with Bethany and Jake, last weekend! I am so glad to be back in B'ton. Have a good weekend, everyone!
