New layout- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. "...Don't legends always have a basis in fact?" ~Hermione to Professor Binns
Well, it started out as a very normal, boring day, but it ended quite differently. I went to work this morning, and on my way to my first class, I ran into a dear friend of mine, Amanda B.! She invited me to go out for coffee w/ some of our other friends from Ireland tonight, so that was cool. Went to class, skipped my other one... >.< (Honestly, I didn't need to go. It was a waste of time, I promise.) Went to the stupid t-shirt place to try and fix that mess. -_- Those people are dumb. Then I had an appointment w/ my intern coordinator, and one for my thesis work. Oi. I am beginning to hate the word "appointment." But I bought a book on ancient spellcraft that I've been wanting for awhile, so that was nice. Then I went over to Amanda B.'s, and hung out w/ her and her roomie and some of their friends, and we went to dinner together! Fun times! I've missed her horribly lately. Then we went to B&N for coffee w/ Mike and Megan, which was nice, as I haven't seen either of them since we left Dublin. They're both doing well, and I was happy to see them. The we came back to my place for awhile to look at my trip pics, and hang out. It was FUN! *big hugs to everyone* Amanda, I've missed you like crazy, girl! I love you! But then I got this scary IM from my sister! Apparently, her best friend's ex-boyfriend is completely freaking out b/c he heard from some of his friends that she cheated on them while they were going out, and now he's trying to attack her or something. Even better- he's my brother's best friend. -_- *rolls eyes* Adolescent angst. It's just STUPID. How I loathe stupidity. I just hope they all stay safe. Anyway, so I'm stressing out, and I decided to just fuck (not in the literal sense, of course XD) my homework. We get to drop one anyway, so this is my one. I love it when Ly posts quizzes! ^_~
Hmm, not too surprising. Red is one of my fave colors... though I'm not sure about the sex part. XD Must be b/c I'm an Aries.
*DIES* Oh. My. God. I don't even HAVE reply to this. O.o;;
Yay! I like this one. ^_^
Rock on! Anyway, I'm tired... What a day. I'm going to bed. *hugs* I love you all!
*Does very tentative dance of joy* I got the draft of my paper back today (the one I was angsting about all weekend), and I got one of 2 A's in the class! ^_^ My prof said it was interesting, on target, and "very well written." *.* I am SO happy! And it is for my hardest class, too! And I got one of the best compliments I have ever recieved from my classmate who proofed my paper. She said my writing flowed "effortlessly," like I didn't have to think about it. *.* The only reason my dance of joy was tentative was that that was only my 1st draft, and I have to turn in the revised version next week. So keep your fingers crossed that I keep the A. But that's not the only reason my day has been good! One of the books I requested from the Northwestern Library for my thesis came into today, and it promises to be quite a useful source. Then I went to the bookstore, and I found out that Alexandria is out! (It's the next book in the Griffin and Sabine series). So of course, I got it. ^_^ And I also got the 2003 Harry Potter movie wall calendar. See? Happy day!
WHEEEEEEE! *dances* I am GOING TO JAPAN! ....Over spring break. ^_^ I got an e-mail this morning from the East Asian department saying that I got into the Japan Study Tour class! That means we basically spend a semester learning how to eat Japanese food and say "Hi, where's the bathroom?" and then we go to Japan over break, and when we come back we spend the rest of the semester debriefing the trip. So not only will I get to go to Japan for ridiculously cheap, but I get an easy A. I LOVE IT! Our textbook is the Lonely Planet Guide to Japan, for gods' sake! I am insanely happy! *.*
Well, I actually finished the paper. You can read it here on my lj, if you'd like. Though honestly I don't know why you'd want to. However, Laur has this funny way of talking me into things that I shouldn't be talked into. Such as writing a HP based omake of said paper. Sometimes I scare even myself.
Ok, I'm starting to panic. I am seriously having a hard time with my paper. My THESIS is easier than this! *dies* I am so scared of my class... which is probably what is making this so difficult. The need to be as eloquent and perfect as possible is just making me go crazy. Anyway, time for a few quick detours from the Hell of Paper Writing! I forgot to mention this, but I watched Gravitation on Friday. (Yes, ALL of it.) My opinion: for a shounen ai, which everyone knows I'm not extremely fond of (ok, Laur, go ahead, snicker little D/Risms under your breath ^_~), it was adorable, and highly enjoyable. Even a bit addictive. And yet it will never join the ranks of my favorite anime for a few reasons. The biggest was that it needed a LOT more fleshing out (minds out of the gutter, you hentais!). Important parts of the plot were kind of glossed over. It was a series that needed about 26 episodes instead of 13 in order for it to be REALLY good. But hot damn, the cast was AMAZING! *.* And I was really, really annoyed that they waited until the very last episode to explain what Yuki was angsting about the whole time, and even then, the ending was still a bit unsatisfactory to me. Sorry Ly, dearling, I know it's one of your fave series! I did very much enjoy it, even if I do criticize it a bit. ^_~ Jimmy and I ended up not going to Spiderman last night, but instead went back to his place w/ a bottle of wine and watched ALL of Cleopatra. (The one with Liz Taylor.) I have never seen it before, and I wanted to, and as it's so long, we just skipped out on Spidey. The acting was a little over-dramatic, which is pretty typical of a classic epic, but the set was amazing, and the costumes! *drools* Once again I found myself wanting nothing more of life than to look like Elizabeth Taylor. Even though, in true Hollywood style, the story was only loosely based on the real history of Cleopatra and her lovers. And I really wanted her to slug Caesar for burning the library at Alexandria (which is the sole reason I absolutely abhor the man), but she didn't. She just yelled at him a lot. >.<;; Anyway, speaking of Egyptian type things, I found this site where you can get your name spelled out in hieroglyphs. I would post mine, but the image is kind of big. Have fun! *sighs* Time to get back to the Paper. *glares sulkingly at it*
Ok, I should be doing my paper, but what am I doing instead? Going out to dinner and movie. Why? You ask yourselves. Because I am a glutton for punishment. Well, in some fairness to myself, I have been working on my paper most of the afternoon, but it's been mostly reading and taking notes and putting my thoughts together. It's just not actually in a word document. Therefore, I feel like I haven't done any work on it. >.< Anyway, Jimmy and I (and maybe Ara) are going to see Spiderman free at the Union. Ah, one of the fun things about going to a big school... Then I shall come home and do MORE work on the damned paper. -_- And speaking of Spiderman, I changed my image song to "Hero" from the Spiderman OST, b/c I thought it fit my theme for this layout a bit better. *hugs* Love you all! Talk to you all soon! (Provided I don't get eaten alive by the rapidly mutating pile of library books in my bedroom.)
Wai! *dances* I got a Gryffindor patch on eBay for my HP robes! I'm trying to get Amanda to buy the Ravenclaw one. Last year, we just printed off scans of the patches for our robes, but this year I'll have the real thing! ^0^ CoS premier, here I come!
Damn homework to hell. Sometimes I hate school. I was supposed to go down to Hendersonville this weekend for my best friend's 21st birthday. I haven't seen S in over 2 years. And now because of a fucking paper that my prof didn't inform us about until this week, I can't go. I'm not bitter, really. No, no, really, I AM. *sigh* I'm sorry S. I really am. *hugs* I love you! And Kim, I'm sorry I couldn't make it down. We'll have to plan something for New Year's or something. And I was going to call you yesterday, but my phone card ran out this week, and I haven't had the chance to get a new one. >.< At least my mom tried to make me feel better- she sent me this forward: A university creative writing class was asked to write a concise essay containing the following elements:
1. Religion The prize-winning essay read: "My God," said the Queen, "I'm pregnant. I wonder who did it!" *laughs* My mom is so great! Now it's off I go to study for my Japanese exam. >.< Everyone who is in danger by this current hurricane, stay safe! *hugs* I love you all!
First of all, I want to wish S a happy 21st birthday! *big hugs* You're finally caught up with the rest of us old fogies. ^_~ I'll spare you the singing though. It also occurred to me today that everyone's probably sick of looking at my blog, as I've been using the same format for like 2 years, and just changing the colors and pics (with the exception of the 2 layouts Ger deisgned for me). And this is what I have to say about that- too damned bad! I have absolutely no skill in webpage design. I am lucky I can change my blog layout at all. So there. :-P *cackles* And this brings me to the funniest things I've read all day. I am researching ideas for my history unit paper on the net tonight, and in doing so I came across this article about Catherine the Great, which brought back fond memories of 9th grade Physical Science class and Ms. MacPhearson. I had completely forgotten about the popular perception of her cause of death until I read this, so I am now highly amused. Alas, I hate to disillusion you all, but it was not the fault of that poor horse, after all. No, her fate was far worse. She died of a stroke whilst sitting on the pot. That's right folks. The pot. Now take a few seconds to think about how you would feel if you had been one of the most powerful and influential leaders in the history of Russia, and your fate was to die on the john. *dies laughing*
*dies laughing again*
Uh, I'm beginning to wonder about this naked man pattern going here...
![]() you are the collected bitch! The Bitch Test by umi
That's right. Now bow to me, mortal.
![]() Immortalized by the famous "Draco Sinister" (by Cassandra Claire), you are witty, sexy, and the typical bad boy girls love. You are paired with Ginny or Hermione, because they remind the author the most of herself. You have sudden special powers that enable you to go along special Voldie-killing missions with Harry and Co. At first you get on everyone's nerves, especially Ron's, but soon everyone learns to love you. Everyone. Find out which Draco you are.
*smirk* Of course I am. Who did you expect, the Muffin Man?
Hey everyone! A new HP-centric layout in honor of the CoS movie due out in less than 2 months!!
Speaking of HP... has everyone see this article? *.* I am SO happy!
I am sick!! Blech. Stupid sinuses. I stayed home today to get rest, though, which was good for me.
*cackles* It may have had something to do with the "Do younger men turn you on?" question. *Tomoyo laughs* I knew it was meant to be, my darling!! *drags him to the Restricted Section* Brought to you by Faytrial
...... No comment.
Yes! ROCK! Being Poe is my goal in life. *.*
