layout - inspired by Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes, and Dante's Divine Comedy.

Nel foco, perché speran di venire
quando che sia a le beate genti.
A le quai poi se tu vorrai salire,
anima fia a ciò più di me degna:
con lei ti lascerò nel mio partire

Within the fire, because they hope to come,
Whene'er it may be, to the blessed people;
To whom, then, if thou wishest to ascend,
A soul shall be for that than I more worthy;
With her at my departure I will leave thee

On old friendships...Wednesday, September 3, 2003. 11:28 am

There are 2 people I was friends with in the past that I've been thinking about a lot lately. There is some sadness, some regret, some bittersweetness in my thoughts of them. I know I haven't always behaved very maturely towards them, and likewise them to me, but I wish there was a way I could communicate that though I know we'll never be friends again, I want nothing more for them than their happiness. I can't say that I'm sorry that our friendships are over- it was necessary when it happened, but I still wish them love and happiness in their futures. Neither of them may ever believe that, but it's the truth.

I looked them up today on the internet, and one of them sounds a lot happier than I expected, but she's been diagnosed with a terminal disease. I am just glad to know she's alive and coping the best she can, and that she has a network of support behind her.

The other sounds like she's doing well and that good things have been coming her way lately. I'm very glad for her, and I hope that good things keep coming her way.

I doubt either of them will ever read this, but if they do, then I hope they realize that I wish them well, and I hope they will be happy in their futures.

Sigh and headshake...Wednesday, September 3, 2003. 07:41 am

You shoulda thought about that BEFORE you did something stupid.

edit: And this is even better. *growls*

Same old, same old...Thursday, August 28, 2003. 03:11 pm

*Rolls eyes* Big shocker here. *snort*

S, is this the same firm that you posted about awhile ago? I can't remember, but I think it was.

In other news, I went to a lecture about Mars done by our astronomy department last night with Amanda B., her friend Drew, Aaron, and Kyle. It was very interesting, but I thought I was going to pass out it was so hot in there. :-P I can't wait for fall weather.

Oh, and tomorrow is FRIDAY!

LOL...Wednesday, August 27, 2003. 12:51pm

This is just too funny!!

All hail Queen Rowling, and her noble Order of the Phoenix!

Why oh why are people like this?...Wednesday, August 27, 2003. 08:14am

My friend Ri posted this on her lj. Read it. It's important, and yet appalling.

Uh...Tuesday, August 26, 2003. 03:46pm

Whoa. Is there anyone who would be this patriotic?!

O_O

That's just fucking sick.

Tell us how you really feel...Tuesday, August 26, 2003. 01:01pm

Thanks for the scathing critique of Bush, S. It was very interesting. (Oh, and everyone else- it's a link on her blog; she didn't write it!)

Oh, and for this article. My opinion is this: I hate race quotas, white OR black. This should NOT BE AN ISSUE, people. School admission, jobs, etc. should be based on MERIT, not skin color. Hopefully by the time our generation comes to power, this won't exist anymore.

HOLY SHIT...Monday, August 25, 2003. 02:09 pm

OH. MY. GOD. This kid is 12. TWELVE, people. Can I hate him?

A PhD AND an MD. *dies*

I just don't get it...Monday, August 25, 2003. 08:27am

Why can't people just accept one another? I don't understand it. Why does everyone assume that they're right, and everyone else is wrong?

This is what happens when people can't just tolerate each other's views. Well, this and many, many other fights. Israel vs. Palestine. Northern Ireland. India. Taliban and Iraq vs. America.

Come on people, do you really think your gods want this?

Well, of course you think that. Otherwise we wouldn't be having these problems.

*sigh*

Hi, this is Jen's House of Phone Se- er, I mean this is Admissions...Friday, August 22, 2003. 11:13am

Today at work, I was hit on by a guy on the phone. An advisor from another school, no less. And this is not the first time I've been hit on over the phone. What, do I sound like a phone sex junkie when I talk on the phone?!

Seriously, this guy starts talking about this Korean student who wants to transfer here in the spring, and then all of a sudden, he's like "Hey, did you go to school there? What did you major in? Ooooh, you sound really smart. What do you want to do when you 'grow up'?...etc."

And not too long ago, I was hit on by a guy trying to sell me a subscription to Indystar newspaper (like I'd ever subscribe to that Fox News disciple) who said that I had a sexy voice. O_O I mean, he actually said that to me while he was trying to sell me a newspaper subscription!!

People are weird. Or maybe I'm just not used to guys flirting with me, as they never do it in real life. Whatever, I've got to stop trying to make sense of the world, because I'll never succeed in doing that.

*HISS*...Friday, August 22, 2003. 09:05am

*spit, scratch, hiss again*

Oh, and this is political.

Just read this, and you'll see why my claws are out.

I'm too annoyed to leave commentary.

edit: There's another article on this here.

edit 2: S articulated quite nicely why I'm so annoyed about this whole stupid situation.

Random stuff...Thursday, August 21, 2003. 08:46am

So there's really not anything exciting to report. I bought the Chicago DVD on Tuesday, and watched it at Aaron's place with him while he built his and Kyle's furniture.

I've started studying for the GRE, though I'd rather have my fingernails ripped out than take it. Stupid grad school requirements *grumble*.

Ara sent me an article, which you can find here, which has more information about that guy Bush wants to put into the FDA.

Oh, and I lost some weight this week! Finally! I started a diet last week, and so far so good. ^_^ That made me happy.

Anyway, that's all. Everyone have a good day, and remember tomorrow is Friday!

Grrrrrrrrr...Monday, August 18, 2003. 08:04am

Yeah, so I thought I had internet at home. Big fucking joke. It worked for a day, then stops. I don't know why. I just know I want to beat the shit out of my computer with a baseball bat.

TGIF tomorrow...Thursday, August 14, 2003. 03:52pm

I finally archived. It was getting long again! I really want to change my layout, and now that I have access at home, I very well may do that soon- maybe tonight or this weekend.

I am so glad it's Friday tomorrow. I have been so bored the last 2 weeks doing a project at work that was very monotonous. And I get paid tomorrow- always a benefit.

I am having coffee with Bethany this afternoon, which is good! I haven't seen her in a few weeks. And I may or may not be going to a friend's engagement party this weekend- it depends on the time. Nothing else exciting to report. My life is boring, but I'm ok with that right now. ^_~

Fire

Falling falling
The sun is burning black
Falling falling
It's beating on my back
With a fire
With a fire

Falling falling
And the moon is running red
Falling falling
It's pulling me instead
With a fire
Fire

But there's a fire inside
When I'm falling over
There's a fire in me
When I call out
I feel some fire
I'm going home

Falling falling
The stars are falling down
Falling falling
They knock me to the ground
With a fire
Fire

But there's a fire inside
When I'm falling over
There's a fire in me
When I call out
There's a fire inside
When I'm falling over
I feel the fire
I'm going home

Hogwarts Student Profile

Courtesy of The Unofficial Harry Potter Fan Club

House : Gryffindor

Family : Muggle-born, both parents Muggles

Wand : willow, contains single hair from the tail of a unicorn; gentle and whispy; perfect for performing enchantments

Pet : snowy owl; gift from a secret admirer at Hogwarts; she is affectionate and reliable, but has a bad habit of eating the snacks my mother sends me in the post. I decided to name her Blodeuwedd, after the Welsh Celtic goddess of flowers, lunar mysteries, and wisdom; her symbols are the owl and the moon.
