Mulla Jeevan and Aurangzeb Alamgir
Note:,
Shaykh Ahmad Rahimahullah popularly known as Mulla Jeevan was a pious scholar of the 1600's. His most famous work is Noor ul Anwaar which is widely used as a textbook in Usool ul Fiqh.
There have always been some world-loving scholars who attach themselves with the rulers and the rich & powerful, some scholars belonging to this category were there in the court of Aurangzeb Alamgir Rahimahullah as well. These scholars came to know that Aurangzeb frequently suffers from rash on his skin so they issued a fatwa with the effect:
"Since our king has a sensitive skin, it is allowed for him to wear clothes of silk"
This fatwa they sent to Mulla Jeevan Rahimahullah as well, instead of affixing his signature on it Mulla Jeevan wrote:
"Is your King a man or a woman? In the Hadeeth of Rasulullah (Sallalaahu Alyhi wa Sallam) it has occured that gold and silk are Haraam for the men of our ummah and halaal for the women, if he is a woman I allow him, otherwise not"
This answer enraged the sycophants, they showed it to Aurangzeb, who was displeased with it as well. One of Alamgir's courtiers went to Mulla Jeevan Rahimahullah posing as his well-wisher and said to him:
"You have displeased the king, he will have you arrested, you should apologize immediately"
Mulla Jeevan Rahimahullah said "Oh, will he have me arrested? I will prepare my weapons against him" and he picked up his flask and started to do wudhu. [As it has occured in a Hadeeth that wudhu is the weapon of the believer]
Aurengzeb's son was watching this, he quickly ran back to his father and told him the whole story, Aurangeb Rahimahullah was impressed by Mulla Jeevan's fearlessness and immediately sent him his apologies.
