Tazkirah of a Mujahid Shaykh - Hadhrat Haji Sahib Tarangzai Rahimahullah
Note: Haji Tarangzai Rahimahullah led a successful Jihad against the British Imperialists from the area presently known as the Mohmand Tribal Area.
Haji Sahib Tarangzai used to advise the Mujahideen, his mu'taqideen and mureedeen, "Never let the enemy be aware your weaknesses". He strictly acted on this advice himself.
In his last days he had become very weak to the extent that his body seemed to consist only of skin and bones, however he never let his weakness and illness interfere with the quantity or quality of his naafilah salah or his zikr. Till the end he kept keeping fast for two days of the week. His food consisted of a little unleavened rye-bread and saag. Often he used to say, "Salaah, sawm, ibaadaah (worship) and riyaadhah (extertion in worship) are are not harmful (mudhir) to health, they are beneficial (mufeed) to health".
When the news of Hadhrat Haji sahib Tarangzai's illness reached Nadir Shah, the wali of Afghanistan, he sent some skilled physicians to Ghaziabad to treat him, however the physician found that there were no facilities for treatment in Ghaziabad so they advised Badshah Gul sahib that Babaji sahib (Haji sahib Tarangzai) aught to be taken to Kabul for treatment, Nadir Shah also expressed the same wish hence Badshah Gul sahib Rahimahullah, Maulana Ayub Jan Rahimahullah (popularly known as Toro Mulla) and some other Khulafaa of Haji sahib took him to Kabul where Hadhrat Rahimahullah was quatered in the royal guesthouse and the royal physicians treated him.
During his stay in Kabul Haji sahib's health detoriated to the extent that he could not walk without support of another, however one day at the gate of a royal garden he commanded one of his Khulafaa who was attending him, "Let go of me" and then with a firm bearing he walked to the other side, while his companions looked on in astonishment, and then he sat in his car without taking anyone's help.
His mureedeen said to him, "Hadhrat you look exhausted from your walk, you aught to have ordered us, we would have carried you across to the car". Haji sahib Rahimahullah replied, "It is true that our friends would have been sorrowed at seeing my weakness however there were people of every type in the garden, if an Englishman saw me being carried in a state of weakness and illness he would have been pleased to see his enemy weakened, why should I let my enemy know of my weakness?".
