It's party season, after all...
Just when you thought the pool of spongy weird stuff that is the net couldn't get more sodden, KARAOKE PARTY TIPS belches its way to the surface.... ................ Tuesday, January 9, 2001 04:42 p.m.

mp3.com are refusing my mp3 on the basis of possible copyright infringement. Well, duh. The piece, like most of my work, is 100% loops and samples....I replied to their boring form email....Dear mp3.com, There is no resolution to the copyright issue. I would gladly defend my music in court and have been an active advocate of copyright reform for over five years. I remain an artist with the will and right to create using recontextualization as a medium. mp3.com has elected not to support such artists I respect that mp3.com will not host my music for fear of legal ramifications. I do not respect the censorship inherent in this action. I am not trying to sell this music, just make it freely available. I will make it freely available elsewhere. Regards, Liquidscissors former mp3.com artist ...............................Does anyone know how to host mp3s on your own site?.................................... "Scratch Studies"
The "Scratch Studies" are a series of new works that explore the rhythmic sounds of scratching. As in previous work, this immersive sound installation is entirely based on physically-produced sounds (using no speakers). In this work, piano wire and other metallic elements are connected to digitally controlled motors which then scratch steel plates in various ways. The "scratchers" in this particular exhibition are of different scales, ranging from 4' x 4' square floor pieces to smaller 6" x 12" pieces which are hung on the wall. These pieces explore rhythmic patterns that are derived from various natural sources, as well as the process of imitation as found in nature. Each "scratcher" contains a microcontroller which controls the movements of a motor (and thus the scratching activity). The computer algorithms used are based on natural processes as diverse as Brownian motion, bird song rhythms and migratory patterns, and insect vocalization patterns. Each of the individual "scratchers" in the installation are networked together, and imitate each other in various ways, generating a complex and emergent group behavior (and immersive soundscape) which is the result of the interactions between the various individual pieces." Yuanmingyuan
1860 -- In the closing weeks of the Second Opium War -- an effort by a British-led international coalition to crush Chinese resistance to European colonization -- British troops in Beijing burn to the ground the Yuanmingyuan, an imperial summer palace built by the Manchu emperors. A few weeks after the burning of the palace, the Chinese government surrenders, & is forced to sign a series of treaties that weaken its autonomy & remove foreigners in China from its jurisdiction. In 1873, the Empress Dowager begins rebuilding the Yuanmingyaun for her retirement, & renames it Yiheyuan, meaning Garden of Peace & Harmony in Old Age. However, in 1900, it is burned to the ground again when British, Russian, & Italian troops set it to flames in retaliation for the Boxer Rebellion, another Chinese uprising against European rule. Undiscouraged, the Empress Dowager rebuilds the palace again in 1902, & the third version of the palace manages to pass unscathed through the political & cultural upheavals in China during the 20th century. National Independent Electronic Label Conference
This past weekend in Newcastle was the conclusion of a fairly hectic couple of weeks. The conference brought people from all over Australia, including friends I hadn't seen for years. I appeared on three panels: Sampling and Copyright Infringement, Streamcast media and Web promotion, and an mp3 'debate' , and went along to about seven or eight seminars. The conference ran along side four others, under the collective umbrella title of 'This Is Not Art'. For the most part it was brilliant, and I reckon there was more than enough enthusiasm to fuel a second annual event next year.

On this day in 1991 Dr. Seuss passed on to more ideal worlds. This is hardly a respectful tribute to the great children's 'anarchist' author, but hey, its funny.

So What did I do?
So what did I actually DO at S11, aside from take a lot of pretty pictures? I handed out flyers and generally cruised the perimeter. On leaving the site, I had the opportunity to talk to one of the delegates,Tom Russo, who had been whisked across the river toward where I was heading for the pub. I paused and halted him, speaking to him for about twenty minutes as to his involvement and reaction to the Forum. He was considerate enough to spend the time with me, and I with him, I guess, when glamour ferals all around were telling him to "Fuck Off, Home!". And here I was thinking it was about discourse ........... Thursday, September 14, 2000 09:08 p.m.

s11
Well, i've been very neglectful of my blog over the past few days, because I came down to Melbourne for gigs and to attend s11. I've been crossing live from the site to Bigfatradio. I'll be there again tomorrow from around 6am. All up its been a success in terms of disabling the course of the WEF's activities by drastically reducing its ability to 'meet'. Only one third of the delegates managed to attend. Bill gates arrives tomorrow. Keep you posted......... Saturday, August 12, 2000 12:16 a.m.
