Whee, blog surfing....
I notice that Alison is using a Tokyo Requiem image on her blog. Cool! I use a pic from that manga on my Japan Trip Blog. I really like the artwork in it!
Hi Selene The Fruits Basket anime is so adorable, I love it! I like Yuki a little more after watching more of the anime, but his utterly feminine voice drives me crazy :) Surly nekoboy Kyo is my favorite! Man, I really need to get caught up on the manga, I am a couple of volumes behind ;_;

YAY! I finally got my Comiket Catalog the other day! I have been rather absorbed with it! I knew it was going to be heavy, but it was still a bit bigger than I was expecting. It's about the size of a phonebook manga like Asuka or Ribon. However the pages are made of a thin, sort of glossy paper. There are over 1500 pages in this thing. It's HEAVY. It's sort of like lugging around a Sears catalog. There seems to be some sort of organization to how the doujinshi circles are listed in this, but it's a little confusing. Each Circle is listed by where its table is, and what series they are selling doujinshi for. There is a little picture sample of each group's art style. Wow, there are some funny things they are making doujinshi for ^ ^ I see everything from TONS of Saiyuki and Gundam Wing to odd stuff like Battle Royale, The A-Team, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Powerpuff Girls. I think I will get some of the stranger stuff I see, for the novelty value ^_^ I DID manage to find the listing for Hisaya Nakajo, author of HanaKimi. Her doujinshi circle will apparently be selling doujinshi for the series called Naruto.
I am so unprepared to leave for Japan soon. I am very unorganized! I have to finish cleaning up my apartment, and do a hundred million other errands tomorrow. And my printer isn't working, so I can't print out a lot of the guides and maps I wanted to. I'm just bookmarking everything and hopefully when I get to steph's we can print stuff there ^^; I also have to go to the grocery store and buy enough kitty litter and catfood to last Spike and Vicious 2 weeks while I am gone. Thea and Tanzy will be taking care of my nekotachi while I am gone. They will be rewarded with doujinshi and smut, hehehe ^_^
I guess it's a good thing my sleep schedule is all messed up- I am on Japan time already ^_^ Added: Sunday, July 29, 2001 03:43 p.m.
I couldn't resist! I took the HanaKimi Selector test thingy, and these were my results:
# 1 Akiha Hara
# 2 Ashiya Mizuki
# 3 Himejima Masao
# 4 Kayashima Taiki
# 5 Nakatsu Shuuichi
# 6 Nanba Minami
# 7 Sano Izumi
# 8 Umeda Hokuto
# 9 Yuujirou
# 10 Nakao Senri
Hahah Akiha is my #1, how funny! I like him, can't blame him for going after umeda-sensei~ I bet I got Akiha as my #1 for saying I liked Disney stuff ^^; I have a HanaKimi page! check it out! :)
Oh yeah, I am constantly amused at how evenver I check the 50 most recently updated pitas blogs, a good number of them are anime fan blogs. It's so amusing! I find a lot of interesting blogs this way ^_^ I am adding a few more blog links!
Joy the reson you can never find Pretear manga at SF Kino is probably because me and Steph have snapped it up :) Steph actually special ordered it from them, but I got my copies off the shelf. Gotta hover like a vulture on Wednesdays and Thursdays around 5pm when they do a lot of restocking :) I wish I could go to the SJ kino again. I used to go all the time when I had a car, but since my poor Soyokaze went to car heaven, I rarely get to the SJ store. I like that one much better than SF. More shoujo manga there *_* Not to mention a much better yaoi section. The SF store is finally starting to get a clue though. I noticed that big section of HanaKimi and Saiyuki manga that they made. They finally noticed what fangirls were buying, heheh ^^;;
This reminds me, I STILL haven't finished making that new list of my manga. The old list is so dated. *sigh* Gotta finish this before I leave for Japan in (gasp) 10 days.

I'm working on drawing the next OO. I am thinking of looking for a 3rd person to help out with the comic as another writer/scripter. I love Tanzy's contributions, and don't want to lose that, but I feel like I only get any help or response from her unless I specifically pester her for help. I never see her on IRC anymore, and I tried calling a time or two, with no luck. I want a 3rd person who will be as enthusiastic about the comic as I am, and will be a bit more active in writing scripts and contributing ideas. I don't like having to beg or harrass to get story/script input ;_; I'll still think about it.
In the mean time, I think I might try having a guest strip contest, similar to what Megatokyo did. Tanzy and I will both be away for a lot of August, so guest strips during our ansence might be fun. ^_^
I made another attempt at drawing a random cute boy character, and I came up with this boy.

Yeah, me again. I'm sitting here, wishing I could finish drawing a doujinshi and get it published in Japan. I am always so awed by how cool the printing quality of the doujinshi I have is, and I wish I could get something I have drawn printed up like that! Printing prices in Japan are much cheaper than in the US, and there are so many more options for a doujinshi artist! There are all sorts of printing companies that specialize in handing doujinshi orders, and are willing to do small print runs of stuff. Unfortunately in the US, printing is expensive, and you have to buy a LOT to get it done ;_; I am looking at the websites for some of the companies in Japan that do doujinshi printing, and drooling so much! I wish I could get some stuff printed here! They don't just print doujinshi, but you can also make your own character goods, sort of like Cafepress, but on a much larger scale! You can make everything from keychains, stickers, calendars, postcards, CD booklets, sewing kits and mirror-compacts, to mini towels, bento boxes, pencil boxes, tote bags, and more! It's so amazing. Ugh, I want a bento box with my art on it! :)
Okay, enough whining from me ^_^

Grr, my Comiket catalog hasn't arrived yet. It was sent via Priority Mail last week. *sigh* My Postal Impairment strikes again! I hope the catalog arrives soon~! It's driving me crazy!
In the meantime, what else can I do but watch more anime? ^_- (well, I could be working on web pages or cleaning my apartment, or, uh, never mind ^_^;;) I watched a couple more episodes of Fruits Basket, which is turning out to be as cute as the manga is. I am very happy! Go Kyo! I love my surly catboy! (I will be saying this every time I watch this show, I know ^_^;;) And come on, they get naked! hehehehehe! Ack, I am having a fangirl moment. Pardon me!
I also watched some Read or Die. I love the heroine in that, Yomiko. She is geeky and messy and book-obsessed, but she manages to be really cool! She's great with paper!
Hmm what else. I have made a blog for my trip to Japan. Steph and I will be logging onto that blog while we are in Tokyo and reporting on stuff that we see, do, or buy for the people who have given us lists of stuff to get. Can't wait!
Okay, I think I am gonna work on some more Random Shoujo Manga summaries. I hope I can do an update of that page soon!

Listening to: "Rebirth" Ending song from 'Alien 9'
Pretty boring day so far. I am waiting for the comiket catalog that was mailed to me to arrive. I am expecting it on Monday. I can't wait to get it!

Today I watched an interesting OAV called "Alien 9." It is where today's random images are from. The character designs are so cute! I love them! They remind me a little bit of Yuu Yabuuchi manga character designs, though these are done by someone else. The OAV is about a time in the very near future when Aliens land on earth. There is this elementary school that has this HUGE mushroom-like alien thing planted next to it. Random alien critters emerge from the mushroom and run around the school getting into trouble. To fight this threat, the school has organized a group of three girls to round up the creatures when they get loose. It's sort of like how they have a group of kids assigned to serve food during lunch time, or clean up the classrooms after school. But these three girls chase the aliens. Each girl is given a pair of rollerblades, a uniform consisting of a long shirt and bike-shorts, and a rather unusual helmet. The helmets are alive! I think they are aliens too, but I am not sure. Each helmet looks sort of like a cross between a rollerblading helmet and a big tadpole, with wings. O_o Strange looking, really! Each helmet doesn't just sit on the girl's head, it grips it with its feet, which forms sort of an ear-protection.
The wings can move and get larger or smaller, and can project these metal spikes. Oh, and the helmets talk and have these long tongues ^_^;;; Gotta wonder what the author was on when he came up with this concept ^_^ Anyway, the main character in the first OAV is Yuri. She is not popular in her class, and they vote HER to be the one from their class to chase the monsters. Yuri does NOT want to do this. The whole idea of it scares her. The other 2 alien catcher girls are not so squeamish. Kumi is the silent and aggressive type, while Kasumi is enthusiastic and eager to round up alien critters. I really liked the artwork and animation quality in this OAV, and I look forward to seeing the next one!

Listening to: "It's Raining Men" from the Bridget Jones Diary OST.
Whoo boy, it's another fun but scary evening in #y. Us yaoi fangirls had a lot of fun playing this online yaoi sex game someone found on a japanese page, where you are the seme, and you pretty much seduce a cute uke named Hayakawa ^_^ You can have sex with him in three different positions, and along the way you make choices of what you want to do (kiss him? fondle him? etc) It was pretty funny XD XD XD We ran poor Hayakawa through all the positions, wore the poor uke out ^^ He will walk funny for days, I am sure :P The dialog in the game is stuff like "Ahh you feel so tight... like a virgin.." and Hayakawa spends most of the game saying "iya! matte... uuhnnnnff.... ah ah ah ahhhh unf..." He blushes so cutely! XD

In other, no ecchi yaoi news, I watched the first episode of "Scryed" today. It seems like a very cool show. I might appreciate it more with subtitles, but I still liked it without. The hero in episode 1 is this 'hothead baka' type of guy named Kazuya. He has some interesting powers that allow him to generate this robotic armor stuff around his right arm, and these big metal spikes out of his back. He can do all sorts of nifty things with his powers. There are some other people with power too, like this Midorikawa Hikaru character who is that 'silent badass' type, similar to his Mikagami in Flame of Recca. Anyway, this series takes place on some planet that is probably Earth, but it looks pretty trashed. And tehre is this larger organization of people who have cool powers too... heheh how vague can I get... Well, I'll elaborate after I have seen more of the show and can figure out what the heck is going on!
I keep seeing trailers and images from that anime movie "Metropolis", based on the Tezuka manga of the same name. Man, that movie looks cool! I really~ want to see it! I wish I could find more information on it, but pickings are slim right now ;_;

Bleh, not much to blog about these days! My life is so boring! But it will be much more interesting soon!
I went to Japantown today and picked up my Japan Rail Pass voucher for when I go to Japan next month. Steph and I got a 14-day pass, so we will be able to zip all over the place when we go. Yay! It was really expensive, but not as bad as I thought it was gonna be. When we decided to get the rail passes, the exchange rate was like 112 or so, (this was months ago) and now it's at ~125 yen per dollar, so my pass was easily within my budgeted amount for it. YAY! hooray for good exchange rate! This pass allows up virtually unlimited rides on all JR train lines in Japan for the 14 days it is good for. If we were staying in Tokyo, this might not be worth it, but we are also going to Kyoto and Osaka, and the tickets to each of those places alone costs more than the rail pass does, so we save a lot of money by getting the pass. We can also use it to catch a Narita Express train from the airport over to Ikebukuro, where our hotel is at.
The reason we are going to Osaka is for a CLAMP event at the Animate store there ^_^;; No, they aren't going to be there (I wish!) but instead they are having an exhibition of original CLAMP X artwork. I really want to see the originals of some of my favorite X illustrations! I am hoping they will sell some special event goods too, so I can get a unique CLAMP item as a keepsake ^^ I figure that while we are in OSaka, we can make a run for the Osaka Mandarake, or maybe the Books-Off there.
From Aug 14-16, we will be in Kyoto, which is a cool time to be there. It's in the middle of the O-bon festival season, and all sorts of neato stuff should be going on. I only wish I had some decent clothes to wear while I am there!
I am getting SO SO SO excited about this trip! I giggle like a maniac at random times just thinking about it ^_^ I am in the middle of trying to gather up all the information we will need for this trip- maps, train routes, addresses (in English and Japanese), schedules, Comiket and Tokyo Big Sight info, my map o fun places to go to in Ikebukuro, the anime shopping guides, my list of manga so I don't buy duplicates, etc etc. There is SO MUCH info I need to gather! For teh last few months I have been randomly bookmarking sites I thought had useful info on them for our trip, and now I am trying to organize and make sense of all these bookmarks! It's a big job! I am SO EXCITED!!!!! We leave in only 19 days!!!!
Hrm, maybe if I finish cataloging my manga sometime this century, I can start keeping track of what manga phonebooks I have. o.o

My cats have temporarily solved their sleeping spot crisis that has been troubling them recently. The have managed to BOTH squeeze into the box with the comforter-blanket in it. The box is big enough for one cat with a litte room left over, but I didn't think it was big enough to fit them both... of course, looking at the box right now, I can see Vicious resting his head on the edge of the box while he sleeps. However, all I see of Spike are his two big feet sticking up out of the box. I really want to see the nekopile they are in, but I am afraid of disturbing them :) It looks pretty funny from here though ^_^
I added a few more blog links over on the left there. I am reading more blogs again lately, which is fun. I have a feeling no one is reading this, but I'll keep on rambling anyway ^_^
I feel a need to draw a bishounen of some sort. My comic has been so fanservicey lately, with all the girls in bikinis that I am feeling the need to balance things out ^_^ I think today I will work on a bishounen drawing and pist the results later. Sounds like a plan!
OOOoh! I am gonna go there when I go to Japan next month. Definitely! I cannot resist art supply stores! *_* *_* I sparkle at the thought of all the screentone and pens and manga paper they must have! And it's near my hotel too! Wai!
Man, I am trying to find a map of Ikebukuro (part of Tokyo) and I can't find a decent one anywhere! All I find are small maps that point out the locations of specific stores. I need a map of the whole area, so I can mark off the specific places Steph and I intend to go to! Grrrrrr! There has to be a decent map of Ikebukuro on the net somewhere.
I watch too much VH1. I think I have watched every episode of Behind the Music ever made. I know way too much about some of the oddest rock groups. It's starting to scare me. Maybe I should go on Rock 'n Roll Jeopardy :)
Ok, be back later, with a drawing of a bishounen, I hope ^_^

Listening to: my teeth chatter as I shiver in this cold apartment. Brrrr!
Hrm, I watched some more anime today. Checked out some new shows I had been wanting to see, including Fruits Basket (gah, Hisakawa Aya plays mouseboy Yuki's voice as TOO feminine! He may be elegant, but he's stull a guy! But Tomokazu Seki plays my surly catboy Kyo WONDERFULLY! yay! And Okiyau Ryotarou plays dogboy Shigure SO well! *sparkle sparkle*), Magical Nyan Nyan Taruto, I My Me Strawberry Egg (yay, crossdressing ^^;), Noir, and Mahou Senshi Riui. I liked all of them ^_^; This is a bad thing, too many shows to be hooked on! There are some anime series coming soon that I am looking forward to- Hikaru no Go (wooo animated Sai!! I want a Sai cel~~~! I bet it's computer animated though -_-), Scryed, Mahochromatic, the next DigiCharat Summer special, and a few other things I am forgetting right now.
I am also slightly obsessed with Puni Puni Poemi right now. It's so hyper and insane and silly :) It is a spinoff of Excel Saga, but the mood of the anime reminds me more of Kodomo no Omocha. Poemi speaks just as fast as Sana-chan :D Her best friend Futaba is like Tomoyo, but even scarier, I think, hoho! And instead of rapping, Poemi gets a magical girl transformation, and a talking fish.... XD
While going through my manga collection in my continuing effort to reorganize it (again), I keep finding all sorts of nice images I would like to eventually use for layouts. I forgot I had a lot of this stuff! (shame on me!)
I am still job hunting right now, trying to find something that is temporary, yet pays more than my current unemployment insurance pays me. I am not finding all that much. I will be gone for a good part of August, and then I will most likely be moving back to Texas, so I am sort of in a frame of mind of to hell with it. I am in the middle of this long contract job I have been working on forever, and I will eventually get the money from that, so my immediate future is not totally devoid of extra cashflow (I get along fine on my unemployment money actually) but it would still be nice to work a little. -_- I have been bugging my temp place, and they don't have anything for me. I still do the rounds of all the job listing sites, and send out so many resumes, but it's getting pretty tiring. I must not give up! Ganbareganbareganbareganbare! Maybe I can do art comissions, or start begging people to buy t-shirts from my Okashina Okashi - Strange Candy goods store ^_^; Or I could sell some manga... NO, NOT THAT! ANYTHING BUT THAT! ^_^
Oh yeah. I added a new set of Bulliten Boards for several of my sites on Niko-Niko.Net, including forums for Shoujo Manga, Cowboy Bebop, Kaikan Phrase, and Hana Yori Dango. It's brand new, so go check it out!
Man, EFnet sucks tonight. I guess this is a hint that I should get off IRC and go to bed now.

RAR. Today's Strange Candy took me forever to get done. I am not sure why, but it did. Of course it would help if I wouldn't start working on them so late, but I can usually finish them in about 4 hours. This one took me 6 =_= It would help if Tanzy would show up on IRC occasionally, but I think she might be lost in Everquest Addict land, or perhaps away from a computer? I don't know, but I am hesitant to call her up about this because I feel like I am always pestering her about coming up with OO scripts and I don't want to bother her if she is busy... I have been doing the last few comics all on my own, but I'd really like to get input from her on them because I usually like her dialogue better than what I come up with.
Since I might be moving to Texas, I have been looking into ways to still appease my manga fix. (Texas is a manga wasteland compared to San Francisco!) and I have found Fujisan.com an online Japanese Superstore based in the SF bay area that sells all sorts of fun imported stuff like manga, dvds, music, furniture, etc. They offer subscriptions to all the manga magazines I have heard of, and quite a few that I haven't heard of before. The subscription (magazine + shipping) prices look pretty good (better than Sasuga, I think. I haven't checked how they compare to Kinokuniya's though) and they have a big selection. they have a few manga volumes that my local kino doesn't even have yet, so that is pretty nifty. Anyway, just thought I would mention that site in case anyone else out there is craving that subscription to LaLa or Hana to Yume :D I feel like an advertisement! ^_^
Hmm I really like the 'Spirit Dreams Inside' song by L'arc-en-Ciel, from the new Final Fantasy movie OST. This version of the song is all in English, and he is actually coherent in it! Amazing!! His English is a lot better in this song than in other past attempts he has made in singing in English. Yay, go Hyde!

Wah, AX is this weekend, and I am not there! ;;_;; I wish I could have gone this year, but couldn't afford it. Oh well. I'm looking at the cosplay pictures from AX on fansview and I see the usual combination of cool and downright scary costumes. Man, looking at Fansview reminds me of why I don't cosplay. I just don't have the body type for it ^_^ The only thing I would even consider cosplaying would be something with a large cloak that covers me up as much as possible. I don't expect anyone to realistically have a figure like an anime character (most anime characters have totally inhuman proportions!) but sometimes ya just gotta think about your body type before you cosplay. Some people just shouldn't wear some costumes! I am one of them. I would look HORRIBLY scary in some tight outfit or costume because I KNOW that I am a LARGE person, and it would really just scare people ^_^;; Do I sound harsh here? I don't know. But some of these fansview pictures make me go ACK! I guess it shouldn't really matter what other people think about your costume, as long as you are having fun, but on the other hand .. I dunno. Many conflicting feelings here ^_^;;; Anyway, I do see several people I recognize on fansview though!
Well I don't know him, but LOOK! Someone cosplayed as a character from my online comic, Okashina Okashi - Strange Candy! I am just so amazed that someone would cosplay as a character from something *I* created! Too cool :)
A few other people I know that I have found so far...
Dom as Kayama
Legend of the Galactic Heroes Hank
Janelle as Rabi-en-Rose
That is only for Saturday. I haven't looked at the other days yet!
In other random news, LEVEL-C has been licensed by Media Blasters/Anime Works. Hahahah I can't believe it! I find that to be so funny :) If there was ever a yaoi anime that did NOT need subtitles, it would be Level-C :) It's just 40-odd minutes (however long it is) of Ishida Akira squealing "Iya~~~ dame~!!" and Miki Shinichirou whispering words of seduction XD XD So funny to watch though ^_^ Media Blasteres also licensed WeiB Kreuz. They are obviously going after the fangirl market. Good for them! Maybe more yaoi anime and shoujo series will be brought over by them in the future if these two do well!
I added niko-niko.net to a new webring, the Kakimoji webring. It's a ring for people with domain names that are based on Japanese onomatopoeia or manga sound effects. "niko-niko" is the sound effect for a smile. There aren't that many sites like ours, but the number is growing! Pretty cool, I think.
My poor cats. I have piles of manga all over my scanner right now, so they can't sleep on it. I think this has traumatized them ^_^; They hop up onto my desk at full speed and come to a screeching halt when they find their SPOT occupied with manga. Poor boys~ don't worry, I'll move all that evil manga away soon~

I spent most of the evening working on my entry for the Guest Comic contest that Megatokyo is having. My entry is kind of lame, but I am glad that I got something done. See? It's about 5am, and I am still awake ^_^ So, did everyone have a good 4th of July? Mine was rather boring (as usual!) I went to sleep yesterday at around 8:30 am and woke up at 2:30pm. I didn't have any plans to go anywhere (I can't exactly afford to go out and do anything anyway) so I pretty much lounged around watching movies and tweaking this blog layout a little more. I fiddled a bit with the top image above. I am pretty happy with this layout now (or at least more happy than I was yesterday) and I am actually looking forward to doing my next layout. Maybe I'll do one for the niko-niko.net front page. I just put up that cute PitaTen layout the other day, but maybe working on more layouts in advance would be a good idea so that I don't take so long between updates ^_^
Other random projects I am STILL working on include my Magical Girls Page which I am STILL working to restore into decent shape. Right now there are some sections that give 404 errors that I am trying to fix or write up the content for. I think I'll finish the Pretear section of that page next. Hrm. I am also still working on my Fun Fun Factory page. I need to borrow issues of LaLa from Steph so I can finish the characters section! I love Fun Fun Factory~~!
That reminds me, the Fun Fun Factory page is located on Piffle Princess(www.piffleprincess.com), which I have owned for over a year now, but I still haven't done anything with the main front page yet (you'll just see the holder image if you go there). I need to decide what to do with that domain. I want to host the Angelic Layer page that Steph is working on there, but the rest of my ideas for that domain are either beyond my programming skills, or keep changing constantly. I have a pile of rough, unfinished layouts for the front page and have yet to be satisfied with any of them. *sigh* Maybe I will work on that today after I do my usual rounds of job websites.....
Or I can finish making a new list of my manga collection. I have a list online right now, but that was last updated months and months ago, and it is so way out of date! I am going to Japan in August for Comiket (thank heavens that trip was already paid for in full months ago!) and I want to have an updated list of my manga so I can look for stuff by authors I like, and so I don't go buying something I already have (which I have done before ^_^;;;)
dang, I procrastinate too much. I SHOULD also be working on some fics (yaoi ^^;) that I had started a long time ago, and which have been abandoned. My poor characters ;_; But now I am sort of afraid to write! I was reading a (hilarious) MST of a CCS fic today (er yesterday) and a lot of teh comments made in the MST made me think about my own fics, and how cheezy they are. I know I probably do the same things that other fics get MSTed for ^^ I have looked back at some of my oldest fics, and I just cringe at them! I can't even read them! I kind of want to go back through and edit them into something more coherent, but that would mean READING them again ^_^
RAR. Maybe now would be a good time to go to sleep ^_^; Gotta stop from rambling on about the same things over and over again! Added: Thursday, July 5, 2001 04:51 a.m.

Yes, I did it! For the first time since December 2000, I changed the layout of this blog. Woo hoo! I feel a nice sense of accomplishment, even though this layout isn't all that thrilling- hey, at least it's something new! And look, it's 5:45am my time, and I am STILL awake! Anyway... Happy 4th of July everyone!
