Girl, born in SG, lives in SG. I enjoy listening music (coldplay, U2, white stripes, rhcp, badly drawn boy), watching movies (das experiment, gangs of ny, matrix, lotr), reading (kurt vonnegut, raymond chandler, tolkien, cs lewis, italo calvino). My tastes are vulgar and middleclass, but i would really like to be an poet. ok, you can LAUGH now...

Soupe Du Jour

Delicatessen

Excerpt:"In other words, I loved her. And I was unhappy. But how could she have understood this unhappiness of mine? There are those who condemn themselves to the most gray, mediocre life because they have suffered some grief, some misfortune but there are also those who do the same thing because their good fortune is greater than they feel they can sustain."

Italo Calvino isn't just a merchant of words, a proprietor of descriptions. Rather, he is a writer who seeks out the internal states of human emotions and actions- without being tiresome- since he always surreptitiously surprises you with new sensations and insights. In 'Difficult Loves' he takes on a first-person view (not unlike chaucer) adventures of different people. Some of the stories are somewhat plodding-especially when he attempts to write from a view of a woman- but his longer stories like 'Smog' are interesting bc of the pol/econ/social backgd which his character moves within- a city blanketed by smog in the early 20th century. While he may not be the wittiest of writers, his wry philosphical short stories put me in a musing mood. This is a book you would like to read in the wee hours of the morning, as i did, and perhaps more than once.

Cheer Bear
You're the Care Bear cheerleader! Your spunky personality and optimisim lifts everyone's spirit. Though you want everyone to be happy, you stand your ground on issues you feel strongly about and this can bring disunity among your friends. Despite this, you are a true believer in working together.

Oh boy-
Thursday must have been my lucky day. I'm a blessed girl. Thank you, Jesus!

So i thot there was floorball-ends up Lin told me there was none!
Then I got a desperate call from my Papa- as u know, I dont pick up calls cause i'm a poor student n i dont hav callerid- I was think'g on the bus if a yellow car passed by I would pick up the call. A yellow taxi passed by. And it turned out 2 be pretty special news.
And i got a surprise grade for PGraph tt i did not deserve.
And last night, what would I get but a very special letter from Ngee Ann tt would solve part of my $$ woes.. oh man.

And just a few days b4 I was thinkg rather selfish thots and thinking I might have been too helpful..bc of some personal selfishness. well, it shows tt when God plans something good for you- he makes u go thru some difficulty first.. Trust God. If you look at Nick's blog, his 'attitude prayer' sums up all that I wish to emulate..
Thank you Nick, our dear Jesusfreakazoid, for my little breakthrough in attitude...!:)

Been reading 'The Art of Gormenghast'- the making of a television series. Distinctly remembered watching Lord Groan stacking pine cones with Fuchsia and thinking of King Lear and Cordelia- anyway, it was a kooky, dreamscape adaptation of Mervyn Peake's Gormeghast trilogy that was shown on tv early this year i think.. A beautiful book filled wif picts of the set- if there's one thing I would like to do on a production-tt would b a set designer- tt made me want to go back and read the series in its entirety..

but i've been doing work- the survey of tween's sexual orientations and activities was very disturbing. mayb that's bc i've always been in heterosexual environments.

naiz's concert on 18 oct at youth park was way wicked. the DJ was phat- n the crowd gradually warmed up 2 to heavy D&B and the addictive rapping. The lyrics was pretty hilarious at times (they were rapping bout someone eating long john food sitting near the stage n then asking T1B1 to come closer to the stage). An informal 10min breakdance competition ensued tt put paid to my earlier comment bout nobody doing it also rocked the socks off the crowd.. thanks for the education, naiz! We then met Fazila ,Tino & Maneka to eat and chew the fat. Tino w relentless in teasing Maneka about being wif the 'proud, competitive and aloof class'.. yeah u know him lah- crap king. had a little rumba at mambo where Faz coached the girls on pool(or is it billards?)-thanks, faz! unfortunately, the attendants said we made to much noise-- oh, well...heheh- i wasn't the one doing the screami'.. then we met mike n had a nitecap with small pinch of baileys, shirley temple, some vodak sunrise drink and a surprising smooth hoegaarden beer..b4 turning in for the night-

Was a pretty gd day..:)
sorrie if i don't remember all the details v. well.

Searching thru the mental junkyard
Most of you should know by now how ditzy i am at times- anyway, time for a personal update. Had a pretty good week-Having socpsy test on sat meant I had to stay up all night-and read all e way while walking to the LT(i w late but-haha i walked)Mr Wong gave me a funny look when I went in(i didnt realise he was teaching Socpsy to other classes!). Anyway, I was searching for a blue paper so I pretty much had to slap down the steps noisily in my slippers to find one. erm..perhaps blue is more conducive to test-taking? *grin It also seemed half e class was late bc Priya, VanB and Mike also turned up later and plonked their butts next to my seat-haha. VanB always amuses me- i realised, at e end of the test i had placed my the other pen on mike's seat. Naturally i asked, "hey mike r u sitting on my pen?" I dont know why but van jus laughed out loud at my remark. :P. Later when we were going off- she went to catch Mr Wong's eye just to say "Bye Mr Wong"- i was so amused I had to chip in too..heh. When I was opening the door and jus touching both doors limply to make sure I didn't commit again the stupid act of pushing the wrong side- VanB just went into peals of laughter. Just being around her makes me perk up cause she's always laughing...:)VanB has a very infectious sense of humour....

CF on mon was really funny cause my cell-gp members were cracking me up with jokes. (yes, corny jokes- but i never said i'm e type who likes cheem jokes) I was surprised when Mike led the worship. (hmm-memory failing me-was it last mon?)I also met a old church friend I hadn't seen in.. 7 years?The CF later went for a nice supper (good-natured company)at a hawker center behind the sch.

watched 'Whose Line Is It' earlier- good episode- but not as brillant as last week's. Colin is still my fav, but Ryan's is the seriously funny one.
"now let's talk about metal"(music)
ryan points to colin's bald head.. "yeah, mental!"
colin looks at ryan. Ryan chips in,"tt would be hard metal?" colin:"well, it could be hard metal, soft metal, lead metal, (trails off cant hear)" ryan and colin exchange looks. colin:"remind me again why do i ever talk to you."ryan screws up his forehead, considers this,"BC then you'll be only talking to yourself?""oh yeah," ROTFL!

Listening to a funny track by Green Jelly-Three Little Pigs "Little Pig, Little Pig, let me in. NOT BY THE HAIR OF MY CHINNY, CHIN, CHIN!!"* LOL. Ridiculous falsetto. My sis dls strange stuff. Reading Calvino a little earlier- yes, strange bedfellows- rock music doesn't really go along with Calvino...heheh

*-And the moral of the story is, "A band with no talent can easily amuse idiots, with a stupid, puppet show."

Searching thru the mental junkyard

SOCPSY day(breaking the norms) was very amusing. Early on Thur, we met for a spot of SocPsy craziness.
//Norm: NO SMALL CHANGE PLS
What we did: We paid for 2 McDonald's ice-cream cones with HUNDRED 1 CENT COINS!
//Norm:CULTURE OF SILENCE
What we did: We played loud ringtones in McDonald's and irritated ppl on a bus with an annoying ringing hp which Leon 'neglected' to answer...heheh..
//Norm:DRESS APPROPRIATELY
What we did: We walked around SIM, bought drinks, slapped around Ngee Ann in hobbit-wear. THAT IS: BAREFOOTED(or is tt barefeet??)...;P

Was terribly funny- and we did make a few persons' day. Quite a few smiled at us and one girl even laffed out loud at us when she saw our naked feet--;) Ika was a good old sport who gamely joined in all my stupid suggestions although Leon needed quite a bit of prodding to take off his shoes- was raining.. oh man(shh.. he was more embarrassed in more instances than we were...hahaha)

During SOCPSY we then had some silly "SURVIVOR IN SIBERIA" (a plane crash) series where Nick 'shot' Leon with all 6 'bullets' and the 'ghost' of Leon basically went on disagreeing to his GREAT annoyance. And where Hizuan and the guys got called "bimbos" by Saj and Van.. LOL..;)

After SOCPSY, Mike, Van, Saj, Leon, Tino and I went 2 lib to do research. Hiaz..missed the Tino/Nick bodyguard thing cause I had to go for floorball.. i'm sure it was extremely amusing, Van..:) u should try walking around barefoot someday(mayb on rainy days-its fun!)- just treat SIM & Ngee Ann as your grandfather's place..yeah? ahahah..;)

Searching thru the mental junkyard

What I have thought of Tiramisu at Baybeats is now chiselled and set in stone when I saw them again at the Substation’s 8th anniversary..
They played a tight set and the drummer actually broke his drumsticks half-way through the performance. That was how hard they played.
If you never seen Tiramisu before you would be surprised by their energy on stage. let's just say they had a very bright melodic sound(of singaporean rock), with touch of groovy 60s sound, a pinch of ska and self-deprecating wit.

The lead singer had an amazing ability to shift from a malfunctioning record, a girl, a trumpet or a crazy, sad clown. He threw himself on stage with the maniacal energy of a mosher. pretty amazing guy.

Yet after that stupendous set, a band (whom we shall name only as 'TW' proved that ppl can and will embarrass themselves at every opportunity. Their songs with pretentious names like 'Her nose', 'burn baby burn' caused quite a few ppl to restrain their sniggers. They also bored the audience with a boring rant on their disillusion at playing in the local scene. As someone said, “goes to show that putting 2 people who can't sing together doesn't help much,” heh.

Since nothing could be far worse, we cheered up considerably when Steel City Skies came on. Although they were technically proficient- their songs were too long- and the audience having endured the previous band- were lulled to sleep. They did remind me abit of U2's hopeful riffs and the melancholic tunes of coldplay- strange as it sounds.

Last sat, we went to paya lebar methodist church to watch Mike's band perform. It was a pity Tino(was ill), Nick(busy) and King(mum's bday) could not make it. The band calls itself Billy and the Groovemakers. (groovemeisters?) Anyway, they played U2-beautiful day,(!!) lenny kravitz-fly away.(!) But they had to endure the sound system which behaved erratically. Despite this- we were dancing in the seats.. oh yeah haha.. I actually wondered how people would have reacted if Van, Ika, Saj, Leon and I shouted Mike’s name like some ditzy, crazy fans. I think Mike would have fled the stage..;) I thought the band was pretty fine- one day Mike, when you guys write your own stuff we will organize a fan club for you guys yah?
BTW, there was NO Billy- the rest of the musical was pretty alright..:)
