overheard in new york, since i can't overhear anyone here...
Kelsey | Wednesday, February 13, 2008
Roommate #1, awkwardly: Hey, do you think we could talk about, um, what happened on Friday?

Roommate #2: Oh?

Roommate #1: We were in here, and you were saying that my board hasn't done anything yet and we're misusing student funds by going on a board retreat. Remember that?

Roommate #2: Oh.

Roommate: Well, then I got up and went into the kitchen and made myself a cup of lemon and honey tea...

Roommate #2: Okay...

Roommate #1: Well, I used Angie's* lemon juice right in front of you, and I think you saw me, and I was wondering if that offended you.

Roommate #2: No, I didn't even notice.

Roommate #1: Oh, okay... Good... Because it's been on my mind all weekend, and I just wanted to clear that up because it seemed like you were mad at me after that.

and 1 more for the road:

Girl on cell: Listen, you in Rikers -- you lucky you ain't get three years! ... And you stayin' there, 'cause I ain't bailin' you out... Oh, whatever -- if I didn't care about you, I wouldn't be usin' my daytime minutes.

Vote Petrelli.
Misha | Saturday, February 9, 2008
ETA: Marion Cotillard + Guillaume Canet are dating in real life?! ("Yes, so I read in "Paris Match.") I had no idea! Sophie + Julien?! HAHAHA. C'est mignon.

Also, I can hear that band The Calling performing on TV. Are they playing new songs or old songs? idk.
There is a Scientology protest in Seattle today!
So, idg the whole voting process!

From Wikipedia: A primary conducted by the Washington Secretary of State, to be held February 19, is meaningless and all delegates will be awarded by the caucus. ORLY? Good thing, I guess, because I didn't even know who to vote for. And I didn't want to ruin my first vote! Anyway, does this mean the next time we get to vote is for the actual president?

And what are the major issues I should take into consideration when I vote?

PS. Nicole--how's your book going?

PPS. HAHAHAHAHA. I can't speak french, so i'll let the funky music do the talking:

Avec mes biatches... HAHA.

OMG I am so jealous of the trip to France that all of those juniors took. I remember them talking about it in math all of last year. Why am I jealous though?…It was probably crazy expensive, I don’t speak French… but its cool because it reminds me of Final Destination 1. I always wanted to go on a plane field trip. [you can see pictures from a link on Nicole R’s facebook. But I don‘t recommend it, it‘ll only make it worse.]

Today. It was presentation time for the Saftey First S’more Machine. She ran beautifully.. Well actually the graham cracker landed on its edge so we straightened it out. Human intervention= - 5 points. There was an oral presentation too, and we were supposed to each explain a part of it, but my friendly teammates explained everything before I even said anything. Ruuude. Still it was a good 195/200. The other projects were to open and shut a gate, to show school spirit, to start a dance party, and to have a romantic cup of tea. The dance party was to start an ipod and have action figures doing the twist, until blue and red lights go off and the door to the room is busted down by the cops. Cute. The “romantic cup of tea” lit candles, played a static-y love song, hit glass bottles together, dropped teabags, and poured hot water. Kind of annoying.

Hmm. oh I will be coming over to watch LOST tomorrow…so expect it.

THANKS FOR THE SHIRTS AND STUFF, MISHA AND KELSEY!! And those postcards are pretty kewl too. Heh heh I haven't bought those shirts yet but most likely next week. Sry!

btw that job listing is for real; however it involves telemarketing. Usually a job listing that pays high but doesn't say what you have to do involves Vector Marketing, which a lot of college students participate in because it pays a lot and sometimes you can work at home. Yeahh

1116AM
I left 10 minutes later. I had to get up early for nothing! But least I didn't have a quiz!

There was a flyer that caught my eye ($750+/week!), so I went to the website. Here's an excerpt: There are litterly tens of thousands of companies to choose from. HAHAHAHA. I stopped reading there, but .... I want $$$.

OK, as head of the Party Planning committee, I suggest we do something tomorrow afternoon. But I'm not about to go all ANGELA and plan this mofo by myself and dictate over my minions. This is America. In America we believe in democracy.

So anyone up for it? Ideas? Where's and when's? What's? Any movies y'all want to watch, with interruptions by Nicole's fresh attitude and Ryan's endless commentary (Unless, of course, if Ryan is still at UW; then we'll save an extra 30 minutes)? Video games that we force upon the hands of Misha?

This will be a test to see if you guys can handle the reins without my dominance.

ps. You know how a "jabber" account is an option for iChat? Can we use our livejournal accounts for this? Anyone know? NM, you CAN.

Do the Puppet Master!
Mariela | Saturday, January 12, 2008
So Yo Gabba Gabba! has to be the most bizarre kids' show ever. It beats Hip Hop Harry by far. I can't tell what age group it's targeting because, although it underestimates children's ability to think critically it bombards them with hip, sophisticated club beats and expects them to know people like Sean Kingston. Anyhoo, I don't know if you guys have seen this yet but it's pretty creepy.

Note how whenever they say "Do the Puppet Master" they never zoom out, leaving you feeling empty and violated.

“I hate Mondays.”- Garfield, the cat.
Kelsey | Monday, January 7, 2008
Everything I didn’t like about today:

1. My mattress is so stiff, its like Reslyn’s but with a loud creaky bed frame under it. Bad start on a Monday.
2. My first class is not in oh-so-close Balmer, but is in fact south campus, making my schedule OFFICIALLY mostly south campus. not kind. I live in north campus now, honey.
3.When I got to my classes I couldn’t understand my teachers. 2 Chinese and 1 Russian. I might have 2 teachers with English as a first language total. I wouldn’t mind if it was English or history, at least you can use the context, but its math and physics.
4. Homework
5. Ordered the wrong math book off Amazon. Its heavy but not heavy enough apparently its missing 126.
6.I had another book added to my required reading so I had to make a trip to the university bookstore. The course packs didn’t come in yet so I’ll have to make a separate trip back to the store for that. The line was HUGE. Oh and before break I bought JVC in ear headphones. When I bought them I asked the cashier if I could try them out before I bought them and he said I couldn’t take them out of the plastic, so I just bit it and bought it. So today I tried to return the earphones with the receipt, and the man at the counter said that they couldn’t take it without the casing it came in. clear plastic huh? that’s all that’s stopping you? that’s why I can’t get my 14.95 back? I explained to him that the case was mangled/ripped in half from opening the headphones, he still insisted on the clear plastic that would make it look fresh out of the factory. Yeah ok its ripped in half who’s going to believe that? I need a customer service number because F that S.

Note from the author: Everything positive about today was omitted to add to the emotion of this post.

~*Freaky Friday*~
Ryan | Sunday, January 6, 2008
If you guys don't already know, there's this song by Kate Nash called "Mariella" HAHA close but no cigar. Anyway, so the speaker of the song talks about how she's so outspoken and "wishes she was more like Mariella" who's "quiet as a mouse. HAHA It's like Misha and Mariela but backwards! Anywayz just thought you guys would find it amusing. :D

"I'm heavy handed, to say the least. My mother thinks I'll be an awful clutcher 'cus I spill things from stiring them too quickly.
I'm far too loud.
Its like, as soon as I've got an opinion, it just has to come out.
I laugh at stupid things just cus they tickle me.

And sometimes, sometimes, I wish I was like Mariella,
She got some pritt stick and glued her lips together.
So she never had to speak, never had to speak, never had to speak.
People used to say she's as quiet as a mouse, she just doesn't make a peep.

Questions: Did you guys get your flu shots yet? Does anyone know how much it is to get the shot at school? And where would this take place? Would anyone like to come with me? If not at school, then what about next Friday @ l'hôpital de navy?

I'm getting all of your presents in Seattle, so.... yeah. Sry so late, bbz! But I'll give them to you later in the week. Perhaps it will add a touch of pleasant to your first week of winter quarter, non? Happy 2008! HAHA. And who has the package with Mariela's stuff? Monica? Did you already send it? If so, I'll just send it later this week, using the post office on the Ave (creepy!) If not, when are you sending it?

PS. I was thinking of going to a French-speaking place in North/South America in August. Most likely Montreal. But I'll go wherever. Is anyone interested?
Notes:
+ Plane, roundtrip to Montreal: $400 to $500
+ We could also take the train. Idk how much that would be, but it's probably cheaper.

Icon says it all.
Monica | Sunday, December 30, 2007
Dearest Mariela,

If one were to send you a package (before Jan 5), would you rather it be sent to your house or your apartment? If the latter, would you be so kind as to send your address to my gmail? And if the former, the same? Because hon, you move too much. It’s like an episode of Where In The World is Carmen Sandiego, except it’s: Where the F in NorCal is Mar-mar?

XOXO! Monica.

Now for the rest of you Punk Ass Bitches (PAB for short), apparently Ryan wants a girls day again. Which for Old Boys-who-are-girls-well-most-of-us-are, consists of Guitar Hero, Marry Boff or Kill, Talks of Whatever. AKA, “let’s hang out!” And because Ryan is a lazy-ass mofo, I have to announce it. Anyway, I guess I’m free on Wednesday (see, I added “I guess” to make it sound like I did have plans). And it could be in MY ROOM (I cleaned, and it took me 3 weeks!) from noon to 8:30. 9 is the cut-off, and I’m putting my foot down this time. GTFO, and take your broke-ass home! Mainly because Gossip Girl is on, and I’d like my bitching left all by my lonesome.

Schedule conflicts? Preferably in a different house? Nicole unable to come and not bring Guitar Hero/THE LULZ, thus making this “hang out” = not fun?

So, RSV-MF-P, PABs. And Happy New Year and the like. Blah blah blah.

ps. If it's in my house, I recommend you bring some money if you want pizza or BYOF.
Monica

DONE! ugh skins! so good, buh so nasty. i like the song in the "previously on..." and its so much better than degrassi because they go to RUSSIA on field trips!

DO I even dare make a list for 2007?

1. If looks could kill - Camera Obscura, reminds me of driving to work and the smell of sugar-glazed ham
2. LAB/BRIDGE makin showed me the true talent that is MR. A to Z
3. the KOOKS and Arctic Monkeys, beginning of an brit rock/pop obsession, and basically listened to them all year, any occasion. Thank you to nicole, for the songs (esp. 505), Jamie T, and Popworld.
4. Journey - greatest hits, inspired a slew downloading Foreigner, Boston, Chicago, Toto, Van Halen, Eddie Money and other fans of the power chord.
5. songs to sing/hum loudly: Roxanne-The Police, Fidelity- Regina spector, Glamorous-amy j, Just What I Needed- The Cars, Way Back Into Love- hugh grant and girl
6. Soundtracks- what they remind me of: Once upon a matress-Nightingale costume, Hairspray-walking max, American Pop Song- FIG, Walk the Line- driving to school in the morning, Take the lead-dancing movies :) , Lost (Downtown)- personal dorm tours at UW
7. grandmaster flash, old skool yo.

honorable mention:
umbrella-rhianna, its catchy
1234-feist was everywhere.
california inspired songs for the trip
kings of convenience for European beaches

There was a mini british invasion this year happening on my computer. i need british rap i think, i might try The Streets... I haven't really found good country music, which was a personal goal I had. maybe that is a new years resolution.

ps. Blair was in an episode of VM, 1st season! gave Kiley and me quite a shock.

WHAAAT?!
Ryan | Friday, December 28, 2007
ONTD reports that Jake Gyllenhaal has is in talks to star in a spin-off of Brokeback Mountain, like his life before he died in-movie. WHAT HAHA That's so unnecessary! They're recasting Heath Ledger and company, like a "different-side-of-the-story" thing. I don't know how to feel right now. Way to mess up the series. Hopefully its just in talks. Anyway, here's the link to the ONTD post. The comments are HILARIOUS. HAHA.

God, I hope it's a prank.

Zooma-zoom-zoom-zoom and a boom-boom.
Monica | Wednesday, December 26, 2007
I made myself a grilled cheese with my sandwich press. Sharp cheddar and Sara Lee bread, jsyk. OMG.

I lied when I said I finished GoF and was ready to watch OotP. Instead I went to sleep. And NOW I will finish the HP movie series so far with OotP. Right after I do this:

MUSIC of 2007.
1. Veronica Mars music, season 3 (Hold On, Hold On - Neko Case; My Before and After - Paul Rudd) Which eventually led to any song played on a TV show I liked.
2. Bob Dylan. Because Misha controls the songs played in her car. And apparently in my life.
3. Fiona Apple. Mainly because of Tymps (The Sick In The Head Song), and then Nicole gave me everything I needed.
4. Songs for Japan. aka FERGIE's Big Girls Don't Cry; CARRIE UNDERWOOD's Before He Cheats; PLAIN WHITE T'S Hey There Delilah; ... pretty much anything that was on VH1's Top 20 Countdown, because the Naval base had that channel. Honorable mentions are some random snippets of unknown Jason Mraz songs that were stuck in my head, and Regina Spektor.
5. PHYSICS LAB MIX. Reslyn's iTunes, Jason Mraz, Backstreet Boys, Nsync.
6. Umbrella, Rhianna. The quintessential summer song.
7. Girlfriend, Avril Lavigne. I play it twice and it appears on my last.fm and then I get accosted by Nicole in public about it. Rude.
8. Death Star's Mixtape/FM Transmitter playlist which includes songs by Bethany Joy Lenz, Veronica Mars season 1 and 2's music, Arctic Monkeys, Rooney, HAIRSPRAY, Leagally Blonde, whatever is on my iPod's Recently Added, etc.
9. WROCK: wizard rock. Increase in my Harry and the Potters songs, introduction to The Weasel King & Oliver Boyd & the Rememberalls, who sound totes impressive for a wrock band.
10. Beginning of College music consisting of COLBIE CAILLAT, The Mamas and the Papas (first two albums on my Mac, ty R&R); Across the Universe soundtrack; and the quintessential transition-into-college alt-rock: Radiohead.
Honorable mentions: Metric, Weezer, Sountracks, Werewolf Bar Mitzvah, The Glass Beef, AMERICAN POPULAR MUSIC, and Beck.

Music of 2007
Ryan | Wednesday, December 26, 2007
Oh Hay Thar. I love making lists and I love reading lists. I love music. After a lengthy grace period, (last year's year-end list, actually) I return to obnoxiously point out what made the year for me. Mainly these are songs that remind me of people, rather than songs that I thought were best in 2007, and most were made before 2007, but it's the thought that counts, right?

The Entire Elvis Perkins Ash Wednesday Album
Simply the best. Every song is a song I'd go to sleep listening to and dream beautiful dreams. The album that encapsulates my year, mostly wistful and folky, sweet and maudlin, never dull or sarcastically droll, or romantically naive which people imagine the common singer with a guitar. Get it Get it Get it.

Milord by Édith Piaf
Oh, Nicole! I remember watching this with you, Meesh, and Julius. It was the second and last day of my miserable UW orientation where I was alone and nervous and awkward. I remember you and Meesh picking me up and I remembered how life would be without you guys making fun of me. I never felt affected by graduation but I really felt the weight of the transition when we walked to the ferry together.

The Knocked Up, Hairspray, Juno, & Enchanted Soundtracks
Watching funny, ridiculous, sweet movies with you guys was so fun. I love bittersweet endings and sappy love songs (DELILAH) and these movies were full of them (including La vie en rose). Loudon Wainwright in the credits of Knocked Up (Grey in L.A., Daughter) was a perfect ending with his amazing croon. Hairspray was fun and Juno's soundtrack was so sweet! I could listen to Ellen Page and Misha's Boyfriend sing forever. And Enchanted? Fuhgeddaboutit. I was a miserable, romantic, love-sick mess after that. Aww, you guys!

Taken Too Young (Tough Alliance Remix) by Taken By Trees
The Perfect Camping Song. Our summer camping experience was so fun. I remember Nicole, Lorraine, Chase, Arabella, and I running through the woods, I carried a boombox and had an iTrip and my iPod and we blasted this song. The chanting in the background, the wistful melancholy brings me back to the camping days. I wish we could all do this more often. I never felt so connected to everyone and everything around me, plus this song right before we all left for college? Changed my whole outlook on life and shizz. I'm a mess.

Real Love by The Beatles
I've realised that my favourite ELO song is actually a Beatles song. HAHA Anyway, This song carries my entire outlook on love and I love it for that. Love love love. Hooray!

Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne, Lip Gloss by Lil' Mama, Me & Mr. Jones by Amy Winehouse, Umbrella by Rihanna, Gimme More by Britney Spears, & Paper Planes by M.I.A.
Aww snap! Iss mah gurls! Meaning you guys, that is. Haha, You guys keep me young. Should I go fix my hair now? HAHA groce. Seriously, these are the JAMS. Each reminds me of one of you, or all of you. Mariela, I don't have a pop princess song from you yet, though. You definitely need one, STAT.

Blue Scholars Impromptu Show at Bumbershoot
So we missed Michael Ian Black. Bummed, the Bumbergroup tend to our wounds by gazing o'er the railing. What's that we hear? A band couldn't make it so Blue Scholars were asked to perform instead? Meaning no one knows? Meaning we can get front row? HAHA yay! Janelle is most definitely proud but if she can manage, she should be even more proud. One of the most electrifying, wild, and funny moments in my life. Seeing Chase, Kelsey, Lorraine, and Kevin pump arms with the music was amazing HAHA.

Samba Vexhillographica & Lover by Devendra Banhart
Late Night, running through the Seattle Centre to get close to the stage before the throngs, Bumbergroup then made our way to Devendra's show. Streetlights the colour of candles, it felt like a smaller, more intimate show with the close proximity. No one can make a beard look good like Devendra can. A beautiful, sweet, warm, and amazing way to end an exhausting, life-jolting, heart-filling day with friends. Plus: Some saint loaded a video of him performing that day onto youtube! Whoever you are, THANK YOU.

You know how we do.

The Weight & The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down by the Band
Kevin and I had a debate over which is the best Band song. I think it's Dixie for the intensity and the driving croon as Levon Helm delivers the chorus. Plus, I love it when drummers sing. Anyway, I guess The Weight is THE definitive Band song, so wotev. Anyway, Good times.

You're So Vain by Carly Simon, Midnight Train to Georgia by Gladys Knight & the Pips, California Dreaming by the Mamas and the Papas, Cloudbusting by Kate Bush, & Marry Me by St. Vincent Songs to get stuck in your head ENDLESSLY in 2007 and on to 2008. All are generally made way before 2007 save for the St. Vincent song, which can make even the most anti-marriage folks (Lorraine haha) dream of a white wedding and a beautiful yet inedible and purposeless fondant cake. Change my name to John and I'm set.

What Makes the Cherry Red by Christine Fellows
If there's ever a song that will affirm to you that life is a wonderful, amazing, precious thing, this is it. Life is good.

YOUR TURN!

Ryan
