our place is crawling with critters. spotted a wee mouse running around near the computer just now *and* i think we have a moth infestation. raine is an expert on the matter, having lived through something similar herself. she says i have to go dig around to make sure there isn't a nest or something in my cereal boxes. ugh. i love my cereal and now i am creeped out.

on a more positive note, i got an e-mail from elizabeth today pointing me to a great site, puttyworld.com. i think i might've seen the site before but it's so apt because the fitness pro at work distributed silly putty to everyone in the office last week. it's to relieve stress i suppose. it's hilarious because all these a.d.d types (myself included) are busy creating goofy things to amuse ourselves all day, even during meetings.

i already had a silly putty at work, it was purple and glittery. the new one changes from orange to yellow with body temperature.

my fave thing about silly putty as a kid was to use them on newsprint or comics.

aight. need to go rest my brain now.

starbucks, starbucks, starbucks.

i am in vancouver. i am here with the dude and his immediate extended family to celebrate his grandfather's 90th bday.

this is my first time in vancouver. well, technically i've been here once before, en route to whistler. my dad pointed out stanley park, granville island and robson street on our way to and from the airport.

i am excited to be here. it's an interesting city. seems small compared to toronto, newer, cleaner and more upper class.

we just came back from richmond secondary school where we met this year's global perspectives class. i am tagging along for this year's trip to the philippines in march 2002. i am hoping to write some articles for local richmond/b.c. newspapers in addition to helping develop the website and aid the kids with writing and updating their online journals.

this year's mission is to build dormitories for a local school in the philippines. apparently the school is so far out that students have to walk two hours to and from their village. the dorms will allow students to spend a few nights a week at the school.

should be an amazing experience and i look forward to the adventure.

anyhoo we gotta jet.

tada! what a productive weekend. the apartment looks amazing. i got back into gym mode. spent some quality time with the dude and with my self. partied plenty. made some quickie updates to the site. even set some goals, including a redesign of this sucker.

right now elan and lisa are over. we made sushi. i made eda mame for the first time. tasty. even found a bottle of sake lying around. my brain is buzzing. homemade banana bread (cake?) for desert, my first time baking a cake (bread?)

we were sitting around regaling our long weekend ikea war stories. won't go into the details. you've all been through it at some point. then i started thinking about the world, and the words 'war stories.' ugly parallels.

turn off the tv, radio and stay off the internet and you become so removed. can't escape it though. it's all too awful. if you think spend too much time thinking about it you realize that you're not in fact removed, but powerless.

makes you want to "sit around and forget about life for awhile..."

off to ted's wrecking yard, tom wilson is playing. he's a very entertaining performer.
