| Shooting the shit
Adriana once told me that in her culture, they thought of butterflies as the souls of the dead. Especially now, as summer trods along and I see so many of them fluttering about, that idea really strikes me. It doesn't make me feel happy or comforted, but neither do I feel sad or isolated. Rather it's one of those things, like some half-finished leitmotive of a Wagnerian opera, that evokes such pure emotion from so deep within that the feeling cannot be described or captured and, in fact, hurts to feel. But, of course, that's just flowery bullshit. I'm not hurting; I'm just tired. I had a great day yesterday and I had a great day before that and before that and before that. As a matter of fact, this whole summer, this whole school year, has been so fucking great it's ridiculous. I'm just tired. I don't know much about butterfly habits, but I suspect they're somewhat territorial. I've seen several regulars sticking to certain parts of the yard. It's kind of amusing to speculate which butterfly goes with which soul, but it's also kind of dumb. I particularly like the tiger swallowtails, but the black ones with iridescent blue dustings are also rather pretty. Then there are the anoles scampering across the porch, vibrantly green with red neck sacks, which they use to posture and fight for females and territory. There's the almost clear sky (which no doubt means there'll be a thunderstorm popping out of nowhere) and a carpet of green sticker-burr plants with pretty white flowers, which I need to pull from the yard. I think I'll go do that.

I actually updated my website o.@. d00d...that's just wrong. I've added several new additions to my family of original characters I like to draw, but who will probably never see the light of an actual comic/story. Jenna is a middle school girl with a strong sixth sense, and Christian is a ghost, who's befriended her since she was a kid. Always always I need to work on hands _o_.

Back in Austin. Woo. I've been mostly just bumming around not doing anything on my "to do" list. I have a bunch of artwork I plan on sharing, but the scanner's connected to a machine I don't have an account on, so getting scans to munnin is somewhat tedious. Anyway, I'm kind of on a Dante-kick (the game one, not the book ^_~) 'cuz of the upcoming games, DMC3 and this one. It's the third installment in the Persona series, and since I haven't seen any of that 1st-person dungeon-crawliness, there's hope that I can actually finish the game instead of getting horribly lost and frustrated ^^;;;;. I met with a second cousin on my dad's side today. He's pretty cool and really smart o.o. He's working on his second PhD, and writes and directs plays as his hobby. I sometimes wonder what I'd be like if I'd been raised in India. I'm almost certain I'd be more motivated, way smarter and probably not half as lazy o.@. Ah well, we play with the cards we're dealt, I suppose ^^;;;. Anyway, he introduced me to his friend who started out as a comic artist before becoming a full-time painter. His work is really wonderful, and he's a cool guy. Wow, now I'm all, like, "Art! Woo!" and don't feel like studying for CS >o>. And I can't do much, since my ganglian cyst is really swollen, so instead I'm procrastinating by watching vids from E3. Kitamura directed the cutscenes from DMC3 *o*. I am so in love with that man ^o^.

How could I forget?! Someone tell me I'm not crazy for thinking Balfrea is super hot =9. And if I were a little more gay, I'd be all over Fran like...er...something really gay on something really hot. Besides the bishies, the trailer makes it seem like the story's about the adventures of Zidane and Tidus' unholy love-child in the Star Wars 'verse, but I suppose I'm just being mean ^_~. Yeah, considering what I thought about FFVIII, I shouldn't get my hopes up just 'cuz of character hotness, but c'est moi ^^***.

I just got back from "Swan Lake." While the dancing is very impressive and the main theme is just so damn catchy, hafta say I'm still an opera girl. Mmmmm, Wagner ^^;;;. But in any case, I got to bond with my fellow Russian students over the rancid smelliness of the bus _o_. Whoever thought of putting toilets on buses and not having windows should be shot. And finally, nice icon You must reeeeally like that movie ^^;;;.

| Everything is my fault
I did a kinda-doodle during a video in Anthro of Sai. I can't believe there are only two days of school left...at least my Russian oral final is over, though that had to have been one of the all-time most embarrassing, horrible things I've done in my life. Let's just say I completely misunderstood what she was saying and the teacher had to explain in English what was going on. Then, before the next part, she explained what we were going to talk about, which made me feel like the dumbest, most worthless person in the world. Looking back, I also realize I didn't use imperatives, which the problem explicity mentioned >.<. Okay, I'm gonna stop now before this turns into an even bigger bitch-fest where I whine and feel sorry for myself and write bad poetry. Two more days. Woo.

Oh my God...I was going to go to bed early, but I have to write about this...I was browsing through GameCube game reviews at GameSpy (don't ask, I was bored), and decided to poke through the "Twin Snakes" one for some eye candy, and then I see Ryuhei Kitamura's name out of the corner of my eye. Ryuhei Kitamura...he's the dude that made "Versus," which, as you may know, is my new favorite movie. He did the new cut scenes for MGS:TS *o*. No wonder he was talking about Kojima in the director's commentary for "Versus"....Keehee. You have no idea how happy this makes me/how much more I love Kitamura-sama *dies*.

Why yes, I am in fact still alive ^^;;;. Kerry, my future roommate, went home for the weekend and is now apparently addicted to DDR >o>. She wants to buy pads and a copy of the game for next year _o_. I'm having a moment. All I want to do is draw. You know...sketch, practice, experiment, anything that involves a pencil or pen in my hand. My stomach kinda hurts when I'm not. This isn't really such a bad thing...but did it have to start two freaking weeks before finals?! I think tomorrow I shall freak out...and not in a good way ^^;;;.

| Random stuff...mostly about zombies...
So Melissa and I went to "Kill Bill 2" for my birthday. I enjoyed it, although it was completely different than the first. 'Course I have mixed feelings about the ending, but, yeah, it was good. Anyway, the movie I really want to talk about is this Japanese indie, with which I'm in love. "Versus" is so frickin' cool. That movie has style to burn as well as badass fights, and quirkiness/camp like no other. It's currently on my "Favorite Movies" list --think "Army of Darkness" with Yakuza and some random reincarnation stuff that no one really gets. So, um, yeah. This was inspired by the movie, and Melissa requested fanart so, in preparation, I drew this. Since none of the characters have names, these are the names we assigned to the gang members ^^;;;. Also, I was planning on playing KHII anyways, but now I'm totally there XD. Auroooonnn~~~!! As for "Advent Children"...why am I such a consumer whore? Finally, this would be an embarrassingly late b-day pic, so let's just call it a gift for Neko-chan.

Oh, hey! Yeah, I was going to post, but then I didn't...o.@. Monday was Patriot's Day, which is a Mass thing, but I'm not complaining since it meant I got to chill at Kerry's beach house in NH XD. Good times, good times ^^. The other good news is that my 0-point Rapidograph pen just miraculously started working today. Yaaaay!! Of course, now I don't have time to work on comics, since school's wrapping up and both CS and Russian are kicking my ass ^o^. Why am I happy about this? I guess I've simply decided to embrace the masochist within XDXD. That and I've been watching movies like a fiend. I saw "Reservoir Dogs" and "Bound" with Adriana. "Reservoir Dogs" is gritty and disturbing, but the ending is amazing so what can you do? "Bound" has (in no particular order) Joe Pantoliano, lesbian sex, crazy mob violence, Wachowski visuals and Chris Meloni, so yeah, I enjoyed it XD. On a less graphic note, I also watched "The Last Unicorn" and "Willow" for nostalgia's sake ^^. w007age. Anyway, sign-up for classes is tomorrow, and next semester's schedule looks ugly >o>. Evening classes. Bah. Oh, and thanks for the vote of confidence...and the image of shirtless Kakashi >D>D.

I'm going to share my thoughts for no reason in particular: I remember once saying how I love when a previously obscure series I enjoy becomes popular in the States. At Anime Boston, I loved chilling at the PS2 Naruto game booth waiting in an extraordinarily long line (just slightly shorter than SCII ^_~), and just talking with fellow fans. Looking on irc message boards and other cesspits of the 'net has shown me the darker side of this, which is stupid/rude people who can't spell and don't particularly want to. It would be depressing except the Internet is such a vast thing that I don't have to deal with them. I can still like Naruto and state, in hopefully a reasonable and intelligent way, why I like it, and at the same time completely avoid "The Fandom." "The Fandom." *laughs* Sometimes I think I must be an arrogant jerk to look down my nose and speak so condescendingly of "The Fandom" when I'm just as much a fangirl and just as much part of the problem. But then I actually look into "The Fandom" and realize I'm probably right. And probably a jerk too, but that's another story ^^**.

| Sharky is a consumer whore
Anime Boston wasn't spectacular, but it was quite a bit of fun. My missions (in no particular order) of getting cosplayer pics (which'll be posted shortly), playing massive amounts of DoubleDash!! and SCII, and wasting my money on doujinshi are complete ^^;;. Doujinshi-wise, I got three Naruto (by Kansai Mix, Juokubunritsu and...Amearare, I believe o.@). I wasn't planning on getting the last one, but the vendor plugged it, and I fell in love with the inside art *o*. I'm a sucker for squishy Naruto *flutters*. I also picked up a Yoshinoya-Honpo MGS book, which are always far too short, but I love his art style and humor, so I can't say no...'sides, it's MGS...them suckers are rare o.@. Finally, I got "Salsa de Jenova" by Alias-Nanigaya, which is gorgeous. The art is so clean and shounen-pritty rather than shoujo-pritty *o*. It's also Zax+Aeris+Cloud-centric, which is a plus ^_~. On the not-so-plus side, Cake is coming to Boston next week, but I don't think I'll have the funds to go >o>. *huggles doujinshi*

It occurs to me that I'm going to spend Good Friday at an Anime Convention...this is saddening and slightly disturbing, and I hope God will forgive me o.@. I just thought I'd share ^^;;;. Also, if you're a media buff and haven't been to this site, I'd highly recommend it. It's like Rum and Monkey for the entertainment world and they have good taste in actors and movies XD. Notice how it's been added to "Bender's" recs ^_~.

Well today was exciting. I had no idea that it was daylight savings, so I ended up completely missing my job interview for the Knapp. She was nice enough to reschedule, but I still felt (and feel) like an asshole and a flake >o>. On another (happier?) note, I finished OZ. I wasn't overly impressed with season six, but then I seem to have an inherent bias against all season sixes, so that's not saying much. I'd just like to say 1) the ending was acceptable (not great, but appropriate), 2) I can't decide whether I love or hate Tom Fontana for emotionally scarring me and 3) I'm going to go cry now. That is all.

| Thoughts on Hellboy
My first inclination is to gush about how wonderful the Hellboy movie is, but I'm sure part of that is pure fangirl indulgence. That said, I still feel it's very solid, and does a great job capturing the themes and feel of the comics. Visually it's stunning. Nevermind the cgi, just the use of color and scenery creates the sensation of Mignola's work. The music too is wonderful. Part of Hellboy's charm is its mix of quirkiness with drama and the "big questions." You know, choices over destiny, what it is to be human, blah-di-blah blah blah. The music handles that very well. The casting is also fantastic. Perlman has become my Hellboy. He's just so damn good at being yer average Beast of the Apocalypse, pamcake-eating, working stiff, who just can't quite understand women XD. Overall I was pleased with the script, although there were a few places that fell flat. As much as it pains me, there are places in the comic with the same problem, but we won't get into that, because I'm biased ^^;;. Also Adriana felt there were some pacing problems, but I, with my rose-colored glasses, didn't really see them. Since the fights are more rough 'n tumble brawls than choreographed dances, dragging them out ala Hong Kong action flick isn't as feasible. Anyway, everyone should see it. I want Guillermo to make Hellboy 2 ;P.

Today, I planned on starting the 500+ pages I need to read for Anthro, but ended up mostly dicking around watching Naruto with Melissa and playing SCII with Kerry. At first we fought, but ended up just messing around trying to get our Voldos to do obscene things to each other XD. The bad news is that I might not be able to room with Kerry because of our class differences, which means I'll end up in McAfee with Bx, which isn't so bad, except it's in McAfee >o<. Anyway, the First Year Formal didn't turn out so well, which sucks because many of my friends and floormates spent so much time working on it (notice how this doesn't include me ^^;;;). But a bunch of the D&D crowd gathered for a "post party" involving Futurama and more SCII ^o^. And the best news is I'm a goin' to see Hellboy tomorrow...er...later today XD. I'm a media whore. Give me pritty shiny things and I will be content ^^**.

| Such a lovely day
I'm going to discuss many miscellaneous things, so don't expect cohesion between paragraphs. First, am I a bad person for finding this one of the funniest P-As in a while? Even as I laugh, I feel guilty o.@. Is this some sort of cruel joke or are they really going to make a movie? If it's for real, then it's automatically on the "must see" list (also including Hellboy and Constantine), 'cuz even if it's awful, I gotta see it ^^**. In Oz related news, here's my summary of the season five finale: narg snarl fang fang eerk graaaa twitch twitch cry >o>. I was so not expecting that; I should have been, but I wasn't *cries*. However, to balance out my sadness, J.K. Simmons, who plays Schillinger on OZ, is also the voice of the yellow M&M. When I learned this, I promptly got a mental image of Yellow burning a swastika on Red's ass and began to cackle madly....Oh, geezum, I need to find a less disturbing way to occupy my time o.@. ...Occupy my time in a way that doesn't involve studying for the Russian midterm looming ever closer on the horizon *cries*.

I'm tired and depressed. I suck at CS, not because I don't get the concepts, but because I'm stupid. I don't think in the right way, so my code is inefficient and ugly and...stupid. And the thing that's really depressing is that I'll always be stupid. I'm pretty sure I can pass the classes and possibly even major in it, but that won't change that I'm a mediocre programmer. I'd just be a mediocre programmer who works hard to make up for that (and let's face it, me and "works hard" don't belong in the same sentence). So I'm stupid or lazy...possibly both. *gnashes teeth* I think I'm going to bed....o.@.

| Men in high places can't understand
Movie plug time!! On Friday, I went with Adriana to see Made-Up, which is an Indy directed by Tony Shaloub, star of "Monk." It was the premiere in Boston, so we got to briefly see/meet Shaloub, his wife (who is the star of the movie) and her sister (who is co-producer and writer). It's really a great movie, very creative and well done, and it's independently distributed so they need all the money they can get. Support the arts! Today I went with my Russian class to Olga's house where we met her family and she served us yummy Russian food (vkysno~! =9). I'm seriously going to have to find a Russian store in Austin and make a traditional Russian meal for y'all ^^. Anyway, after that, we went to the Russian film, "The Return." This movie is absolutely stunning. The lush visuals and minimalist music are haunting and beautiful, and I left the movie feeling drained, even though I couldn't say exactly what I thought or felt. I was very impressed, and I seriously want a copy of the film and soundtrack. Both these movies are definitely Sharky-approved. Now I think I'm going to try to dl a copy of "Monster." CS...what's that? ^^***.

XS2 is probably gonna come out in Japan in June, which means it'll be, like a 2005 release in the States _o_. I want my Citan-sama.... o.@. In even more depressing news, Logic is going to make me its bitch *cries*. Rarely do classes make me feel completely and utterly worthless, and unlike Physics, I a) pretty much grasp what's going on, so I have no excuse except pure incompetence and b) don't have Dras and Harper there to help me through the pain...one more week, one more fucking week >o>.

So this CS luncheon thing I went to today has gotten me thinking about my major, and it's rather depressing. At this point, I'm leaning toward a double major of Media Arts and Science and Russian, but I don't know if that's feasible (especially if I want to go abroad to Russia for a semester). Bah. Thinking about the future always makes me miserable and grumpy. I'm going to go on ignoring it for now _o_. On a happier note, Harold Perrineau Jr, who plays Augustus Hill in "OZ," was Mercutio in the "Romeo + Juliet" modern remake. Mrow =9. He's also Link from the Matrix films, replacing my main man Tank, but I forgive him ^^**. Anyway, I've decided I like Orange Range. I can't explain it, considering I don't like rap and the Japanese bands I like are few and far between, but it's not Visual K, and it's more...funk hip-hop rock ala the Chili Peppers than out and out rap. Saa...and I have a thing for endearingly awful Engrish and dreadlocks o.@.

| I'm so happy...all the time...it's great!
Wow. Today started kinda bleargh, but ended really great. At fencing, all the people going to regionals (tomorrow in New York) got signs encouraging them, and Kerry (who made my sign) wrote "Do it for Snake!!" I fell on my ass laughing; it was beautiful XDXD. She also gave me a bunch of tea (herbal and green) making her my absolute favorite person ^^. Then, while I couldn't make it to the actual dinner, I got leftovers from the Sci-Fi club's Redwall feast, where they made various dishes from Redwall, the deeper 'n ever pie being amazingly good =9. Much better than whatever cod shit they serve on Fridays in the dorms. After that, I went to the anime showing, so I got to see the end of Princess Tutu, which was utterly fantastic. The cinematography from the series makes me want to experiment with motion and the flow of lines in my pictures...and learn to dance like a pritty-pritty ballerina, but I'm not completely delusional ^^;;;. Also Michelle gave me a poster of Auron. Not a poster from FFX with a little picture of Auron, no, this sucker is all Auron, all the time *o*. Keeheehee...he's looking at me as I type XDXDXD. Teehee....no mercy *huggles*.

I think I threw out my back. I'm not sure, and I'm going to see the trainers tomorrow, but in any case, there's a lot of pain and a lot of me gimping around like an old woman. Definite not good times ^^. In any case, I ran into Melissa at Schneider's. She was freaking out about chem, so I, being the t.v. pimp I am, showed her a few eps of Futurama ^^;;;. Shamless, yes, but oh so right ^_~. I love that show, I really do *o*. Also I wrote a series of OZ drabbles dealing with love. They take place between season 4 and 4.5-ish. Warning for racist language in addition to the usual swears and cursing ^^;;;. Now back to Russian, which 0wnz me >o>.

Today was pretty good. After drinking literal gallons of orange juice and water, the cough I developed yesterday is almost gone, as is my back pain. One more fencing tournament in New York this weekend then I'm done for the season, thank God o.@. Yes, I love fencing, but it's to the point that I just want back my afternoons and weekends. So tired...maybe now I can sleep on my side _o_.

And, surprise surprise, I've been doing OZ fanart ^^***. Over all, I don't really like the one of Keller, but I like the inking so I went ahead and uploaded it. The next one is kind of slashy, but it's Beecher 'n Keller, so go figure ^^. It's here. I removed some of the older shite in my junk section, but it's probably not stuff anyone is going to miss ^^. Poor boy ;o;. Anyway, yesterday Michelle celebrated her birthday, and we went to his great Italian place. After eating cafeteria food for over a month, it was heaven *o*. And I was a complete badass. When it came time to divide up the check, I study it for a second and told each person how much to add on for tip and tax. And the total came out to exactly. the. right. amount. I don't think that's ever happened to me before. It was beautiful XDXDXD. Now if only I could remember what day of the week it is...o.o.

I feel like I mostly know the material, so it makes studying that much harder >o>. Now, as a disclaimer for the rest of the entry, I've been pretty consistent in my separation between what I consider "appropriate" to discuss in online journals and what I don't. So, for the record, I have actually thought this over. This is in response to you, but I feel it's good food for thought for everyone. Hence I'm posting online (for better or for worse o.@). I don't believe there's much point in praying to God for things to happen/not happen. The concept of free will means it's up to us to do that which is in our power, and the nature of life means accepting what we can't control. I can assume that God does or doesn't have a plan, but ultimately I'm far too insignificant and narrow-sighted to possibly understand. Because I can't understand, I don't find it helpful to speculate on such matters. Where God does touch our lives in a direct, perceptible way is in the strength He grants to us. He gives us the strength necessary to continue, which we lack in of ourselves. God doesn't need our prayers, but through them, He grants people peace. I speak, partially paraphrasing Merton but also from experience. I'm not trying to convert anyone or say that you must pray; I'm just trying to explain my position. Sometimes I feel almost too secular, but my religious beliefs are very important to me, so I feel obligated to at least try and explain them ^^**. Hope this didn't come of as preachy or condescending o.@.

Awww shit. The first set of midterms is coming up >o>. I really really don't want to think about it _o_. Anyway, this weekend, we (the fencing team) had our last tournament before Regionals. I somehow managed to get 2nd place, but I can't quite figure out how. I feel kind of...guilty. Or something o.@. Also, Michelle has asked me to give her drawing lessons, which I'm looking forward to. I don't know how good a teacher I am, but I enjoy at least trying ^^. Gah...Russian is going to be the death of me o.o.
