Mood: Chipper
Music: The Fray - Over My Head

So in case anyone was wondering, no one in the entire southeast area of the United States can order a mocha from Starbucks for a while. No, I'm not kidding, because the following conversation took place at a Starbucks last night:

Starbucks Barista: Hey there, what can I get for you?
My friend Linda: Hi! Can I get a peppermint mocha?
SB: Sure...erm...actually, no, you can't. They never sent us the mocha. Actually, the entire state of Texas is out of mocha. Even more, the entire southeast of the nation is out of mocha.
Linda: What? Ohhh...you're making fun of me!
SB: No no, I swear I'm not! The entire southeast is completely out of mocha! You wanna see the memo?
Me and Linda: Hahaha, oh my god, a memo??
Me: Ahaha, dude, you're hilarious!
Linda: Seriously, you guys are out?
SB: Yeah, dead serious. I can show you the memo if you want.
Me: Haha, no way!
Linda: Alright, let's see the memo.
SB: *whips out a printed e-mail*
Me and Linda: *reads over e-mail*....holy crap, you WEREN'T kidding!
SB: I toldja.

So yeah...just FYI, apparently the stock in Nashville, Tennessee forgot to ship out some mocha...so for you mocha lovers out there, you might want to try something else for a coupla days. :P

Mood: Weird
Music: Better Than Ezra - Good

So I've come to the conclusion that I'm seriously a weird person. Or maybe just paranoid and neurotic. Take your pick.

The reason why I bring this up is because I started thinking about all the weird, quirky fears/paranoias that I have, and well...let's face it, they're just plain weird. So I thought I'd share! Yay! Just a few of my strange fears/paranoias:

  • I freak out over wads of wet hair. It looks like a dead animal to me. Dry hair, however, is fine with me. Even small amounts of single strands of wet hair is more okay with me. But a giant wad?? Ew. Gross gross gross. This has been discussed in a previous post.
  • Everytime my pencil lead breaks, I get this paranoia that the little shard of graphite will fly into my eye. Even though I wear glasses. This too has been discussed in a previous post.
  • Every time I step into a car that has a high elevation (an SUV, a minivan, etc.), I get this weird paranoia that I'll somehow end up closing the door on my leg, because it takes more time to get my foot off the ground and into the car than it normally would if I were in a car with a lower elevation.
  • I HATE yellow lights. I always get this short flash of panic where I debate whether I should slow down or speed up.
  • I'm a compulsive e-mail checker. Even if I KNOW I don't have any mail, I still log onto gmail.com on a regular basis.
So yeah...I can't be the ONLY one with these quirks. Share, people, share.

Mood: Contemplative
Music: Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas is You

Dear Santa,
Let's start with the superficial, materialistic stuff first, ok? For Christmas, it'd be really great if I could somehow get the following in my hands:

  • A black 4GB ipod nano
  • A copy of the Postsecret book
  • Ridiculous amounts of Godiva chocolate
  • A PSP
  • Johnny Depp
Ok, you got that, fat man my dear, jolly friend? Good.

Now on to the stuff that I REALLY want. This year, and every year after, I'd like:
  • To survive through pharmacy school without sacrificing my sanity
  • To see my grandparents in Taiwan this coming summer, before I lose my next chance
  • For any of my friends who have experienced heartbreak in the past year to recover quickly and know that they deserve more than they'll ever know
  • To learn to actually COOK. I can bake and make all sorts of nifty desserts, but I can't seem to bring myself to cook any REAL food. My kids are gonna be fatties if I keep up with this.
  • For my family to be in good health
  • For my friends to be in good health
  • Hell, I should just say that I want my friends and family to live healthy, prosperous lives
  • For my friends and family to know that they mean the world to me, even if I don't always show it
  • For those who have suffered to see better days, and for those who flaunt their prosperity to suffer to share the goods. :P
I know it's a bit much to ask for, Santa, but I'm sure you realize that I've got good intents behind these wants. Thanks a bunch!

Sincerely,
Cindy

Mood: Relaxed
Music: Tal Bachman - She's So High

First off: FINALS ARE OVER!! WOOHOO!!

And on to your normal blogging program. :P

So anywho....over Thanksgiving break, my cousins and I were talking about mean things that we did to our siblings when we were young. I think my cousin Alex took the cake by saying that he used to trade his nickels for his sister's dimes, because he convinced her that nickels were worth more since they were bigger. :P Mine was that I convinced my little sister for a while that "ptooie" was a bad word. At any rate, that conversation reminded me of other mean things that I've done to little kids, and I think the worst thing I've done is make a little girl have a staring contest with a stuffed animal. The funny part is that she actually did it. She sat down, and just stared at this lil' stuffed panther until she got tired. And for the first time in a 3 hour span, I had silence. It's terrible, I know, but dammit, that kid was REALLY getting on my nerves.

Anywho...I'll leave this open to discussion. Has anyone else done something mean to a kid? :P

Mood: Tired
Music: Ari Hest - No Surprises (Radiohead cover)

Just a quick post here. I know I've abandoned this thing pretty badly lately, but meh...better late than never, right?

  • First off, I'm not dead. But I might as well be. It's finals time.
  • Another example of the nerd-dom that goes on here: I dared a friend to snort a packet of black pepper. Then he dared me to keep the pepper under my tongue and see what happens. My other friend who was looking on asks "Why? What kind of receptors do we have there?"
  • Naps are good. Drooling on your notes isn't.
  • It's amazing how much it cuts down on your stress level when you lower your standards. Screw making A's....C is for continuuuueeeee!!
  • I'll be an old woman in four days.
  • Chocolate-covered espresso beans are an awesome substitute for coffee.
  • Ari Hest's voice is dead sexy.
  • Finals make me want to repeatedly stab myself in the eye.
  • After studying for hours on end, it suddenly seems like a good idea to try to eat your textbook and see if you can learn anything from that.
Anywho, I won't be posting much in the next couple of weeks, because I'll be living at the library. Food and hugs are welcomed. :P

Music: Rachael Yamagata - Quiet

What the F*CK is THIS?!?!?

I haven't seen anything this disturbing in a long time. Seeing something like this brings me one step closer to losing all faith in mankind. Otherwise it just reminds me to stay the hell away from redneck children. Yikes.

Mood: Amused
Music: Ben Folds - Song for the Dumped

Guess the context of the following conversations:

Girl 1: "Why would you kill babies?"
Girl 2: "Because they're tender."

Me: "You'd shoot me?"
Him: "Yeah dude!"
Me: "REALLY?? You'd shoot ME?!?! That's so sweet!!"

I'll post the actual conversation topics later. :)

EDIT 11/21/05:
Time to solve the mystery of the conversations!

Conversation #1: Johnny hit it dead-on - they were talking about veal. :P

Conversation #2: Zombies would've been cool, but this one was just a simple, sarcastic conversation. I was getting stressed out while studying for an exam, so I asked my friend if he'd shoot me if I asked him to. And he said he'd gladly do it. Bada-bing bada-boom.

Mood: Terrified
Music: Rachael Yamagata - Reason Why

So not only am I training to be a drug dealer, I'm now training to be a mass murderer as well.

I had a lecture about medication errors last week, because the reality is that in our careers as pharmacists, we're gonna make a mistake at some point or another, no matter how good you think you are. The part that REALLY freaked me out is one particular piece of information that our professor gave us:

A pharmacist who is 99% accurate and has 40 years of experience is likely to kill 6 people.

Holy crap, SIX people?!?! I guess it's a much lower number than what doctors and nurses would get, but HOOOOLY crap. I'm gonna be a murderer. :(

Mood: Unproductive
Music: Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc.

I've got a pharmaceutics exam in less than 3 hours, and I'm blogging. That's probably a bad thing. :P

Anywho, today's quote of the day:

"Dude, you're a milf!!"

Yep, one of my classmates said that to another classmate. Because she has a 5-year old daughter (an adorable little girl, by the way). And she also happens to be a young and attractive woman. It's a good thing that we're all buddies here in pharmacy school, because a statement like that has an extremely high slap risk factor. :P

Which brings up a question...if any moms read this blog (especially you, Andrea!), would you take it as a compliment if someone called you a milf? Or would you promptly slap them with a smart turn on the heel and storm off? Does it depend on who says it? And how they say it? I'd imagine that it's something like getting a catcall from some guy in the street...flattering to a certain extent, but in the end, you feel like meat. Just curious. :)

Music: Radiohead - No Surprises

So after my ninja stunt on Halloween, everyone now calls me "Ninja Cindy" or just plain "Ninja." Someone said that it would've been awesome if I had thrown a smoke bomb in the middle of class and disappeared from the scene. :P Looks like I've built a name for myself here in pharmacy school. :P

Mood: Touched
Music: Random people chatting in the computer lab

Warning: sappy/mopey entry ahead. Kind of a big contrast from yesterday's goofy ninja attack post, so you guys can roll your eyes and ignore this one if you want. Regular goofy/random posts will be back soon enough, I promise.

You can't have a relationship without trust. Unfortunately, trust is quite fragile. All it takes is one lie, one action, or one stab in the back to break it. And as much as I'd like to think that I could regain trust in someone in an instant...well, I'm only human. It takes more time than that. Forgiveness can be dispensed, but to regain trust? Who knows how long that can take.

I'm amazed by the kindness that people can show. I've got a friend making a 3-hour drive all the way from Austin this weekend, just to treat me to some dessert and to make sure that I'm alright. I insisted that she didn't need to go out of her way to do such a thing...a phone call would've been enough already. What's more is that she works on Saturdays! Hell, I've dated people who wouldn't even drive 15 minutes to make sure I was okay if I was upset. So when a friend is willing to do something like this, it really means something to me. Linda, if you're reading this, I'm truly touched. I'll see you this weekend. :)

Music: Green Day - She's a Rebel

Halloween is the day that a girl can be as slutty as she wants, and no one can say anything about it. So this year I went all out and chose a costume that showed tons of cleavage, leg, and large, expansive tracts of temptuous skin.

Check out that slut. HAWTNESS.

Haha, so I was a ninja this year. And yes, I actually showed up to class like that. More pictures can be found here. :)

Happy Halloween everyone!

Music: Radiohead - No Surprises

Pssst....I've started a photoblog.

I was inspired by my friend Zara to do it. She started a "photo a day" project, and I thought I'd take it up too, because 1) it's a good way to find the interesting things in life, and 2) it's a good way to record at least one memory from each day. I'll still have my regular postings here...the photoblog will just be something new to add to the other crap that I've got around here. :)

Music: Imogen Heap - Sleep

I'm bored, and I saw this on the bf's livejournal. So I figured meh, why the heck not:

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over these words right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want - good or bad. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) by what people remember about you.

Feel free to post whatever you want. I'll take the bullet if your most distinct memory of me involves some sort of intense public humiliation. But nice memories would be pleasant. :P

Mood: Weird
Music: Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out

Project "Root for the Houston Texans Just for the Free Coffee" - Week One: So apparently the bastards on the Houston Texans haven't won a game all season. Dammit, I don't even keep up with football and I'm rooting for these crapheads! Come on guys, just ONE cup of free coffee....please?

Anywho...so here's something to add to the "List of Reasons Why Cindy's a Nutcase"...I'm afraid of pencil lead. No joke.

Ok, so I don't exactly scream and run at the sight of pencil lead, but I've got this strange fear that whenever a pencil breaks while I'm using it, the broken piece of lead will fly into my eye. It's weird, I know. But I think I got this fear from when I was a kid in New York. When I was in elementary school, this one kid told a story about how he had to go to a hospital because he broke a pencil tip while he was writing with it, and the piece of lead flew into his eye. So I guess ever since I heard that story, I've feared that the same would happen to me. I flinch every time I break a pencil tip. What makes this fear even MORE irrational is the fact that I WEAR GLASSES. So even if a shard of broken pencil were to hurtle towards my cornea, it'd harmlessly bounce off of my ever-so-thick panes of polycarbonate lenses. Not unless it did some weird maneuver where it flies UNDER the lens, and ricochets into my eye. If that's the case, then I'm convinced that the gods hate me.

Anywho....so now that I've revealed my psychotic fear, I think it's only fair that everyone else shares theirs. Comment away, people. :)

Music: Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees

This is a momentous day in blogging....I'm about to write about something I know absolutely nothing about: sports.

Baseball:
I know nothing about baseball. Other than the fact that some dude throws a ball, some other dude whacks it with a stick, and then he runs in a big circle. And somehow that's supposed to be a good thing. But apparently the Astros are going to the World Series against the White Sox. The mayor of Houston has declared this weekend as "No Sox (Socks) Weekend", where we don't wear socks to cheer on our Astros. So people all around, wear flip-flops or stink up your shoes in support. And if you're from Chicago...well, I guess that means you're supposed to wear as many pairs of white socks as possible (try hanging some off of your nose...it'll look great). Anyway, this is where I become a poser: Go 'stros! :)

Football:
I know nothing about football. Other than the fact that some dude takes a ball, runs like hell down 100 yards of grass, and other guys try to tackle the crap outta him in the process. And somehow that's a good thing. However, Exxon gas stations are now giving away free cups of coffee on Mondays if the Houston Texans win a football game the Sunday before. So for that reason alone, I'll be cheering for the Texans. :P

So....to sum it up, go 'stros (for the World Series), and go Texans (for the free coffee). :D

Music: The clacking of keyboards around me

If hurricane Rita were a real person, I'd punch her in the face. Anyway, I'm FINALLY done with my slew of makeup exams, so I should be okay for the rest of the semester. SHOULD be okay. :P

Anywho....so everyone remembers those nerdy competitions back in high school, right? Quiz bowl, science fairs, orchestra and band competitions (me: orch dork reprezentin'), all that good stuff. Here in pharmacy school, we have:

THE PATIENT COUNSELING COMPETITION!!

How nerdy is that?? They give us a "patient", and they videotape us counseling them. And then they submit the tapes to some sort of judging panel, and the respective winners will move on to regionals, nationals, etc. etc. It kinda makes me wonder if people actually practice hardcore for these things or if anyone ever gets superpissed if someone else beat them for first place. I'd love to see an angry competitor throw down his or her white coat and shout "THAT WAS TOTALLY NOT A PRIME QUESTION TO ASK THEIR PATIENT!!" And guess who's participating in this competition tomorrow? None other than yours truly.

I'm doing this just for practice, but if these things are anything like those ESPN spelling bees, I'm gonna have a ball. *snicker*
