Taking a break from my history paper
Music: Weezer - Photograph
Ok, so back to my little fiasco from last night. So if you didn't know by now, I live in the dorms with community bathrooms. There's two things that suck about the community bathrooms.
1. The door to the bathroom is always locked. So if you need to go for any reason, you need to bring your key. It's not that big of a deal, but it's still kinda annoying.
2. The shower stalls are freakin' SMALL. I feel like I have to plaster my arms to my sides while I'm in there so that I don't touch the walls. So I'm not so keen on changing in the shower stalls because I don't want my clothes to get nasty shower water all over them.
However, these two conditions were both recently remedied. Someone living on my floor glued the door fixture so that it wouldn't lock everytime you closed it, thus eliminating the need to use a key to get into the bathroom. And as for the shower stalls...well, I just don't change in there. I go in a towel, come back in a towel, and I change in my room.
So anywho, I've gotten into the habit of not bringing my key whenever I go to the bathroom. I went to take a shower, and when I came back, my door wouldn't open. I turned the doorknob again in disbelief. No dice. I see the following message from my roomie scrawled on my whiteboard:
Hey Cindy
Went to the movies
-Van
My first thought: "Oh shit." Then came the following thoughts: "1. I'm locked out. 2. I'm in a freakin' towel. 3. I've got a history paper to write and the computer that I'm typing it on is behind this door." So I'm standing in the hallway in nothing but a towel, and I'm staring at my whiteboard. I guess I thought staring at it for a while would somehow transform the words into "Went out for a bit, be right back!" Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. After a while some people walked by, and I asked if it was required to go down to the front desk in person to get a spare key. They told me that you do. The thought "Oh shit" transformed into "OHH SHIT". I couldn't go down to the front desk in a towel! So after standing around in the hallway a little while more, I knocked on my neighbor's door to ask if I could borrow a bathrobe for a few minutes. Problem solved. I went down, waved to the guy at the front desk and simply said "Hi. I'm locked out." He handed me a spare, I regained access to my room, and the day was saved. Huzzah.
Ok, so maybe it wasn't as scary as I made it sound in the last entry, but YOU try standing around the hallway in nothing but a towel for a few minutes and tell me it's not just a little freaky. :P Oh well...I've learned my lesson...I'm never leaving my room without my key again.

Good god, I just had an extremely frightening moment. It was also a potentially embarrassing one, but I was spared a great deal of humiliation thanks to my neighbor Janel. I'll write about my little fiasco later, since I've got a Microsoft Word document screaming at me to put more than two paragraphs of text on it
. ^ ^;; I'll just leave you all in suspense for now.

I just got back from dinner. UT's cafeteria never fails to amaze me with its inedible food. They served this REALLY nasty potato soup
today. I coulda sworn it was going to get up and do this.
And just as a side note, the "soup" was thick enough for me to play around with it with my spoon so that I could sculpt a little blob like the one in the comic. It even had a nice little "arm" to go with it. Then Deran took the spoon and killed poor little "Pseudo-Potato Hamlet". RIP.

I know some girls tend to douse themselves in perfume or body splash...I'm guilty of it myself at times. But I don't think I've ever come across a guy who doused himself in cologne. I was walking to history this morning, and I could distinctly smell the cologne on this guy who was walking a good 4-5 feet away from me. I'm not sure what cologne it was, but he had so much on that it was almost overwhelming. >_O Not a bad-looking guy, but I found it strange nonetheless. :P
But anywho.....I stole this link from Deran...I can't believe how much irony there is in President Bush's take on affirmative action. Oh, and while we're on the topic of President Bush, does it bother anyone else that he says "nu-kee-lar" whenever he says "nuclear"? Geez...where the hell did he learn to reverse the "l" and "e" in "nuclear"? I can never take him seriously whenever he talks about Iraq's possession of "nu-kee-lar" weapons....it just doesn't work.
Labs have begun. Time to get crackin'. Rawr.

I made the revelation that I've lived for almost TWO DECADES. Boy do I feel old. On the other hand, I started thinking about all the things I was able to do 10 years ago. By 1993, little Cindy had learned the following:
• Swimming
• Piano
• Violin
• Figure skating
• Pottery
• Chinese reading and writing
• Skiing
I've got a huge amount of gratitude to my parents for giving me the opportunity to learn all that. The sad part about it all is that out of the 7 activities listed, I haven't continued a single one into my college years. It makes me wonder what things would be like if I'd kept up with it all....maybe I'd be jumping triple axels like Michelle Kwan, or maybe I'd be playing insane concertos composed by Rachmaninoff. Even though I learned a lot, it just doesn't feel like I've accomplished the same amount. *Sigh*.

But anywho.....*niko*....it's cold outside, but I've got a warm caramel macchiato in my hands. ^_^ *Sips caramel macchiato*.....30 more minutes before I leave to go to chem

Me: Shut up. I'll do it later. I promise.
Bleh.....needless to say, I just don't feel like folding my laundry right now. I usually dump my clothes on my bed so that I'm forced to fold them before I sleep, but I skipped the dumping process, so now all my clean clothes are sitting in my hamper. Blargh.

My physics professor has a German accent. An overview of class so far:
Week 1
"So zen we can convert meters to kilometers, ja?"
"And zen we can convert meters to centimeters, ja, ja?"
"Kilometers can convert to centimeters, yes?"
Week 2
"And zen we can convert meters to inches, ja?"
In the meantime, I just kinda sit there and stare for a while. Then I doodle trains crashing into each other. And then I stare some more. Yay physics.
Anywhooo....school's been pretty good so far, but that's because all my labs have been canceled
so far. ^ ^;; Once labs start, I'll be reduced to a hermit who lives off of pocky and ramen. Come visit me when labs start...lab notebooks aren't exactly the greatest friends in the world. ;_;
On a brighter note, I've had a good day so far. Labs are canceled, I had a good breakfast consisting of a peach muffin and a caffe mocha, and the weather outside is absolutely perfect. I'm thinking about going to the turtle pond later to study. ^_^

But anywho....haha, my US history professor cracks me up...here's a direct quote of what he said today in class:
"They were frightened that the nation would crumble like a...um...a dry cookie falling off a table."

Wahahaha.....I have a feeling that I'm going to like that class. ^_^

Garbage, skunks, cigarette smoke, elephant cages at zoos. What do all these have in common? They all stink like a mofo. And the one out of those listed that I come across most often is cigarette smoke. I went to chem today, spotted some friends, and sat down with them. We made some small talk, and once the professor started talking, I couldn't help but be distracted by the stench of cigarette smoke coming from my left hand side. The dude smelled like he'd visited the Marlboro factory and swam around in a pool of tobacco or something. Bleh. Whether people smoke or not is none of my business, but if you do, please, PLEASE wear some clean clothes to class so that those of us who don't like the smell of cigarette smoke can breathe more easily in class. Thank you.

The lyrics to this song are perfect for describing the weather outside:
Here, comes the cold.
Break out the winter clothes
And find a love to call your own.
You...enter you.
Your cheeks a shade of pink
And the rest of you in powder blue.
Hehe, I really hope either John Mayer or Norah Jones wins the Grammy for Best New Artist this year....those two deserve more than anyone else on the list.
Anywho...I went to my first class today.....time for a fresh start. Call me a nerd, but it actually feels good to go back to class...I'm being productive! I'll just have to hope that Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo doesn't ruin my grades.....if it does, I'm going to kick a certain someone's ass for getting me hooked. Just a few random thoughts before I go to bed (relatively) early tonight:
• I'm back in Austin. The good: I'm back with friends, and I'm away from allergy-prone weather. The bad: I'm back to eating crappy cafeteria food, and I'm back to showering with flip-flops on. >_<
• Speaking of crappy cafeteria food, here's an article from the Wall Street Journal saying that UT Austin has America's worst college cafeteria.
• Nerdy thought of the day: everyone says that R2-D2 looks like a trash can. So why haven't they made R2-D2 shaped trash cans yet? That would kick ass....especially if they came with remote controls. Then every nerd in the world could make their precious trash cans migrate towards them whenever they need to dispose of umm.....broken diskettes and torn Mark Hamill posters or something. :P
• NI!!!
• Class starts in one day...oy. Gotta work hard this semester. And I need to learn to like chemistry. Otherwise it's gonna be a looooong 6 years for pre-pharm and pharm school. >_<
• I haven't been updating my blog nearly as often as I used to....either I haven't had anything to blog about lately, or *gasp*....I'm actually getting a life. O_O
Anywho, I'll leave everyone with that for now.....good night.

A large green chest with the image of a Totoro emblazoned on its front.....a Miyazaki VCD collection, brought all the way from Hong Kong! Nyahahahaha, I now own 10 of Miyazaki's major anime films. O_O Woohoo.....more anime to add to my collection...w00t! Thanks for the Miyazaki VCD set, Deran! And welcome back to the USA! ^_^
By the way, does anyone else think that it's a tad unfair that a man could turn out to be this pretty??? Sheesh.....yes, my friends, I will repeat once more that she used to be a man. Holy crap. Holy holy holy crap. I'll admit that I'm impressed, though. I don't see a trace of manliness in her/him at all...transvestites/transgenders/whatever like RuPaul still show signs of umm..."manliness". Blargh.....so...um...yeah. I'm impressed. And envious. And boy does it feel weird to be envious of a MAN who looks better than me. O_o;; Umm....yeah, time to drop the topic, Cindy. ^ ^;;
