hm... Friday, July 18, 2003 01:53 a.m.
Twilight is a complex, often misunderstood individual. A shy pony, she can come across as rather serious, a bit of a loner, even mysterious. She is a soft-spoken, introspective pony with a large romantic streak. When her ideals are threatened, she withdraws in order to preserve her rose-tinted view of the world. She likes to help out but often lets someone else take the credit. If only the other ponies knew just what mischief she gets up to!
hm... am I? I don't know about other descriptions (although I don't think I'm that shadow-lurking), but rose-tinted view of the world? I never thought I had that bubble mentality.....

Lots of things happened.. Thursday, July 17, 2003 05:13 p.m.
Been lazy about posting... was also thinking about changing the layout in July (nothing fancy... just tweaking the layout a little. Might still do that...), but got lazy and now here I am, with the same old layout. =p
How was everyone else's July 4th weekend? Mine was pretty good. My dad planned this roadtrip passing through Pittsburg, PA, Cleavland, Ann Arbor, Detroit, Niagara Falls, and Binghampton and we managed to do all that driving in three days. (with 10+ hours of driving everyday, but still.) Well, I wasn't driving (it was mainly my dad and my brohter), so I can't really complain, I guess.
I was not very keen on the idea at first. Spending most of the three days in a car was not my idea of vacation. But it turned out to be not too bad. The weather was great most of the time (I mean, it was hot but we were in A/C-ed car..), so the scenery was nice.
We also spent Saturday at Niagara Falls in Canadian side, and it was great! I've been hearing that there wasn't much to see in Niagara Falls except the water, but that wasn't so. Maybe it's different in Canadian side?
Anyhow, the streets leading down to the Fall were very busy with attractioins, gift shops and such. It was fun walking around there.
Then there was the Fall itself. It was a great sight! We did a Maid of the Mist ride, which was a boat ride that took us pretty close to the Horseshoe fall. It was fun getting all splashed by the water. =) And they provided blue vinyl coat thing, so we weren't that wet. Except, after we got out of there and after we disposed the vinyl thing, it poured, so we all got soaked walking back to the hotel. =p
--------------------------------------
I also went to see Pirates of the Caribbean. I went on the ride when I went to Disneyland, CA, so it was fun to catch the scenes adopted from the ride. I speically enjoyed Jony(sp?) Depp's performance as a very amusing pirate ("gay pirate," Hector call him. Not that there's anything wrong with gay pirate. =p) It was entertaining overall.
Here are some of the thoghts that went through my head when I was watching the movie:
The lessons that he got for the Lord of the Rings movie must have helped Orlando Bloom with all those fight scenes.
The girl's wearing a pretty dress! ooooooohh (at the hanging scene)
How did she get her hair to curl like that? (same scene)
Wait, that means that their esophagus are all degenerated? That's kinda odd.. considering some of other soft tissues are intact... Does that mean everything else other than skeleton is gone? (at the captain pouring wine down his mouth scene) <- med school dorkiness
oh, pooey, he gave her up so easily! (almost at the ending. No spoilers! but "her" refers to the heroine)
I also want to go see the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but it got a bad review from the newspaper that we get at home. =(

Sunday, June 29, 2003 11:03 p.m.
So I went to see Charlie's Angels:Full Throttle yesterday. It was fun. I went to see something fun and has lots of kicking butt and explosion and such, and I got it all. I don't deny that there isn't much of a plot or a deeper meaning to contemplate, but hey, you don't go to movies only for the enlightenment and such. It was a very good summer flick. Lots more of sexiness in this one compared to the first one, but what's wrong with being sexy at the same time as being kicking-ass-cool? =)
On another note, I finished Harry Potter: The Order of Pheonix a couple of days ago.. It took me longer than two days since I didn't get to read it at all on Sunday. (was out to NYC with Hector, where he fed me his chocolate brownie frappachino.. the evil, evil frappachino! I already had a drink, so I didn't need more.. but I couldn't resist! ;_;)
Anyhow, so yeah, I finished HP couple of days ago. Was surprised at who died.. took a little longer to get into the book this time, 'cause there was a lot of new place/people setting up in the beginning. Was surprised to see Harry having not-so-good temper in general, but then, he acts like a typical teenager. I liked that he wasn't all that saintly perfect boy, actually. =)
I also really liked the way J.K. Rowling wrote about death. She writes about the death itself really briefly, as how it usually happens in real life. Then, she describes the reaction of people left behind very realistically, which hits me stronger about the death and loss that occured. I already can't wait for the book 6.
Finally, Kitsu was down here for a week! =D
Te-chan and I got to get together with her on Saturday. Hector was present, too. Kitsu was curious about who this boyfriend of mine was, so we invited him along. I hope he wasn't too uncomfortable in the midst of three girls (women, gals, females, whatever. =p). It was good, though. We went to eat in a mexican restaurant called "Fresh Cactus" in my town, then went to B&N to wander about and talk, then came back to my house to sit for a while. All in all, a good, relaxing evening. I was also very glad to see Kitsu in such a long time. =)

Tuesday, June 17, 2003 11:48 a.m.
And you were telling me the day before how you can cook and how it's not fair that Te-chan doesn't trust you in the kitchen. =p
No stove burning fun here, but I started my research program yesterday. It's a clinical research about Screening rate of Breast cancer and Cervical cancer in Obese women. The project is at the starting phase, so my main task would be just collecting necessary information from as many patient charts as I can. It wouldn't be exciting to do chart review, but I don't mind it too much (probably more so 'cause I haven't done much so far. =p). The hours are not bad (9am to 4pm with an hour for lunch), and I'm earning money, so I have no complaints.
Now only if I can find a decent housing for next year...

WOW Sunday, June 8, 2003 08:07 p.m.
I just set up my 5.1 Surround Speaker system for my new sound card (SoundBlast Live 5.1 - a happy computer + end of the year gift from Hector).
WOW.
Hector was right. I needed this (I didn't think much of it before), and I wouldn't be able to go back to the crappy two speakers that I had (not that all two-speaker system is bad, but mine was crappy.). Listening to music and watching movies on my computer are whole new experiences!!
Thanks a lot, Hector! =D
********************************************************
Brand-new Computer! Saturday, June 7, 2003 01:05 a.m.
Well, not really, 'cause it's more of an upgrade. But now I have a kick-ass computer! All the parts that I ordered came in today, so Hector built my new computer. It's basically a new computer since I got new videocard, soundcard, motherboard, process, ram, and power supply. ^_^;;; But it came out a lot cheaper than buying a new one, and I'm very very very happy with the result. The graphic is amazing! (esp. since I was using a crappy videocard before and now I have GForce4. =D)
All thanks to Hector who just left after a day of hard work. =p

First year is over! Friday, June 6, 2003 02:35 p.m.
With the neuroscience final on Monday, my first year at med school is officially over! Woohoo! ^o^
I have been pretty lazy since Monday. There was a party thrown in one of the classmates' house, so I went there on Monday night and got pleasantly drunk. (I found out that I get bubbly happy - giggly - and talkative when I get drunk.)
Tuesday, I went out for dinner and drink in Monclair with Te-chan, Jing and Hector. It was fun. =) I also tried an apricot beer, which tasted pretty good.
Wednesday, I stayed home all day. I got up really really late and did nothing. Hector wanted to see me, but I was too lazy to get ready. He despaired at the fact that he wasn't worth a shower ('cause that was the reason that I gave him. "I would like to see you, but I don't want to take a shower."). heh.
Thursday, I actually took a shower, and Hector came over. We hung around for a while and went to see Italian Job. It was a fun movie. I suppose it's not that deep or anything, but it was entertaining, and that's one of the important value in movies, in my opinion. We went to my town's theater, and there were only 10 or so people in there. ^_^;;;;
My research program starts on 16th, so I'm planning to be pretty lazy until then. Kitsu, I heard that you might come down to the area at some point?
On another happy news, I got a digital camera! ^0^ It's really cute and nice. I haven't taken many pictures with it yet, but I'm very happy with it. =)
Now I should start looking for an apt for next year.... no more 40-min driving one way for me next year!!! (esp. when everyone's saying that the second year is worse than the first year... -_-;;;)

Wednesday, May 28, 2003 10:01 p.m.
I got a piggyback ride today! ^O^ You can guess from who and you will probably be right. =p
It was fun, like flying/walking/moving in midair. =) So, yeah, he can lift me. (I've been saying that I'm too heavy for him.. he will break his back! But I guess I was wrong.... =p)
Hector laughs at me as I write this. He's mean. *pout*

Sleepy. Sleepy. Want to sleep, but can't. Sleepy.. Why am I so unproductive? *weeps* Still have 20 pages of Autonomic Nervous System slides to go through before doing two lectures of Psych before I can go to bed. *weeps*
Don't mind me. I'm in panic mode. It has passed now. At this point with three tests left before the end of the year, I usually in the state of non-caring (a.k.a. given up), but I occasionally get a panic attack that lasts for a short period. Well, now I'm back to a semi-motivated stage, but still rather sleep than study. But can't do, hence, pita-ing.
Last Friday, we had the last lecture of Psych (actually last lecture ever this year. Now we only have tests to prepare). It was about med school stress. We were shown a video with interviews of students from my school regarding stress. It's somehow comforting (?) to know that I wasn't the only one cracking under the stress. We also learned an interesting stat about depression. So, depression affects about 12% of general population, but 40~60% of med school students. Severe depression is prevalent in 4~5% of general population, but in 12% of med school students, the rate which goes up to 25% by the end of the second year (which, I think, is probably due to USMLE (US medical licencing exam) step I that we have to take at the end of the second year). It's nice to know that it's almost natural for us to get depressed in our med school days. hah.
Well, it's almost over. The last day is June 2nd, when we take the Neuroscience final. Psych and our History and Physical examination (H&P) tests are next week. For H&P, we get a standardized patient on whom we get to ask question to take a complete medical history and perform a complete physical exam. We get videotaped! That will be interesting... I hope I don't freeze up. The test itself doesn't seem too complicated, at least... It's our first such test (we'll get more as our medical eduation continues... -_-;;), so I don't think they'll be too mean to us.
On a completely different note, bunch of manga (in Korean, since I can't read Japanese... -_-;;) that I ordered arrived the other day. They include, "Fruits Basket" 9 & 10, "TeruTeru x Shounen" by Shigeru Takao, "Shaman King" 20 & 21, "One Piece" 26 & 27, and "Genju no Seiza" by Akino Matsuri 5 & 6.
I was pondering if I should stop buying Fruits Basket since I was losing interest because I haven't read them for a long time. But I'm very glad that I picked up new ones. Saki's story made me cry, and I would really like to see where Tohru's awakening (?) is heading. It sucks that I can't read Japanese, 'cause I have to wait until they finish translation!! =(
I'm liking "Teru Teru x Shounen" a lot. I read a lot of good things about the author in various manga review sites, so I picked up this series when the first one came out. It was actually disappointing at first. But I kept up with it by borrowing it rather than buying, and it got surprisingly better from the second volume and on. I guess the first volume was more introductory. It's revolving around a "princess", a daughter of a very prominent Japanese family and a ninja who's determined to protect her. But. It's set in a modern era, and it's not really an alternate universe, either. There's a dark secret involving the girl, but I think the main focus is more on the love. =) My very brief description makes it sound really stereotypical, but it's good! I suppose it doesn't really deal with many insights into life, but the story's engaging and the characters are very cute. I hated the bratty princess at first, but now I like her. (that was a very rambling review... -_-;;;;)
"Shaman King" and "One Piece".... well, One Piece is One Piece. I still like it despite it follows the formula of typical shounen manga - fight the enemy, win, fight stronger enemy, so on. But I like each chapter, the imagination of the author to create all those different environments, etc. It's already on vol.27, and doesn't seem to be nowhere near the end, and I'll probably collect all the volumes.. -_-;;; Shaman King, on the other hand, I'll probably stop buying after these. I just wanted to see the story about the past of Yoh and Anna. I'll probably keep up with it by borrowing them - it's fun to read - but will not buy any more...
I'm also liking "Genju no Seiza". I bought the first volume when it first came out since it was the new series by the mangaka who did "Pet Shop of Horrors". I was a bit disappointed, mostly because I couldn't understand what's going on... -_-;;; (it was in Japanese) I found out that they were translated into Korean, borrowed them, got very interested. It's about a boy who's father is Japanese and who's mother is a foreigner (I can't remember the exact nationality, but Tibetian or something). One day, a Garuda appears in front of him saying that he's the real king of Darashal (sp? that was the Korean translation of the country..). This country is kinda like Tibet, as it is headed by a monk-king, who's supposed to reincarnate. There is already someone who's appointed by Shoryu, but Garuda is convinced that the main character is the real one. The stories are told by episodes, which usually deals with a common theme of the main character helping others in need with his special powers (reluctantly. =p). I get a similar feeling from this as in Pet Shop of Horrors, except in this series, the view towards humanity is warmer. =)
ok. that's it. My reviews are crappy, but my fingers hurt. =p Let's see how long it takes me to finish ANS and two lectures of psych...

Matrix Reloaded!!! Thursday, May 15, 2003 12:48 a.m.
That's right! I just came back from the first showing of Matrix Reloaded!!! It was great! The plot was well-written, action scenes were aplenty and very cool, and the ending made all the people in the theater scream "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!"
It was also fun watching it in a full theater. I assume that everyone there was pretty hard-core matrix fan, if they came for the first showing... so they were fun (with cheers after the cool moves and such), but were also serious when there were serious scenes.
I don't want to give any spoilers, so I'll leave it there... =P But it was well worth the wait (I was in the line about an hour and a half ealier than the movie time, but it was fun 'cause I went with 8 other people. =)), so everyone, go see it! I'm so buying the three DVD set after the next one comes out in November.

If you're not the one.. by Daniel Bedingfield Sunday, May 4, 2003 11:29 p.m.
If you¡¯re not the one then why does my soul feel glad today?
If you¡¯re not the one then why does my hand fit yours this way?
If you are not mine then why does your heart return my call
If you are not mine would I have the strength to stand at all
I never know what the future brings
But I know you are here with me now
We¡¯ll make it through
And I hope you are the one I share my life with
I don¡¯t want to run away but I can¡¯t take it, I don¡¯t understand
If I¡¯m not made for you then why does my heart tell me that I am?
Is there any way that I can stay in your arms?
If I don¡¯t need you then why am I crying on my bed?
If I don¡¯t need you then why does your name resound in my head?
If you¡¯re not for me then why does this distance maim my life?
If you¡¯re not for me then why do I dream of you as my wife?
I don¡¯t know why you¡¯re so far away
But I know that this much is true
We¡¯ll make it through
And I hope you are the one I share my life with
And I wish that you could be the one I die with
And I pray in you¡¯re the one I build my home with
I hope I love you all my life
I don¡¯t want to run away but I can¡¯t take it, I don¡¯t understand
If I¡¯m not made for you then why does my heart tell me that I am
Is there any way that I can stay in your arms?
¡®Cause I miss you, body and soul so strong that it takes my breath away
And I breathe you into my heart and pray for the strength to stand today
'Cause I love you, whether it¡¯s wrong or right
And though I can¡¯t be with you tonight
And know my heart is by your side
I don¡¯t want to run away but I can¡¯t take it, I don¡¯t understand
If I¡¯m not made for you then why does my heart tell me that I am
Is there any way that I can stay in your arms?

Sunday, May 4, 2003 08:03 p.m.
So! It's May! and I learned of the presence of Cico de Meye (sp?) yesterday. -_-;;; I don't think I'll get drunk tomorrow, but I might drink something (not beer.. can't drink more than a can of beer at max... don't like the taste).
My friend from school had a dinner party at his place yesterday. It was fun. There were total 8 of us, so it was nice and cozy. We had a potluck dinner (is that right sp?), and Hector and I made lasagna according to my mom's recipe. It was my first time really cooking and it came out pretty good! =)
We also played Pictionary (which I sucked at... how do you draw "repeat"? I attempted to draw a cd player with repeat sign, but it didn't inspire anyone to say "repeat") and Taboo (fun!). We did the first round of Taboo with two people each and the second round with female vs. male. Of course, female team won by a lot (51 vs. 36, hah!). It's funny what people come up with to describe a certain thing. For example,
Tim (the host): "um ... it's kinky ... most girls don't like it ... they're sometimes in doctors' offices?"
Hector: "stirrups?"
Tim: "yeah! that's it!"
We also found out that the reason that Tim wanted to go into sex therapy was because he was rejected as a porn star just because he was Asian. (j/k)

On the "bi" theory... Thursday, April 24, 2003 10:19 p.m.
Te-chan, thanks for letting me know about opinions of other people on the theory, but I'm rather disturbed by the posts on that site...
First of all, I was basing my theory off of people that I know, and I admit it's a small number of people. I know I was generalizing, but it was just a light-minded theory.. Why do I get the feeling that people on that board were getting defensive?
Another thing is, I'm quite upset at what they were implying by being more open-minded if you like yaoi. Yuri doesn't count, because most of the straight guys DO like seeing two girls make out with each other (at least from what I've heard/read/etc). It turns them on for some strange reason. But I degress. Anyhow, I'm upset because it seems like they are saying that if I don't like yaoi, I'm not as often minded as they are. Excuse me! It's just a matter of taste! What does that have anything to do with being often-minded? Well, it might be, but liking yaoi and being supportive of homosexuals can very well be two different things. I can say that I am pretty open-minded as far as that matter goes, but personally, I'm not really into yaoi (because my take on that is, there's anything for me to identify with! Cool guys, but they are both gay AND taken! =p).
I should probably stop before I sound like those posts on community conf. back in Wellesley... It was just a theory, and if there are evidence that it's not true, fine.
Another thing that bothered me in the thread is, though, how lightly people seem to think of physical intimacy. They were talking about kissing girls not being a big deal, but I personally think that kissing anyone (girl or guy) without the feeling is wrong. Why would you want to kiss the person when you're not feeling anything? Or make out? I wouldn't think that you would get anything out of it by doing that without any feelings. But people do have different ideas about physical intimacy, and I'll not be judgemental on it as long as it doesn't affect me. *shrug* (like a random girl getting to my boyfriend with that kind of attitude, I guess. =p)
ok. I'll go cool off my head now. =)

hee hee. cremester cycle.... hee. Thursday, April 24, 2003 01:55 p.m.
I heard of the cremester cycle from a classmate who were out in NYC last week. I guess it's more of an inside joke among med school students, 'cause you learn about cremester muscle in anatomy. What is cremester muscle, you ask? It's a muscle that pulls your scrotum (a.k.a. balls) up. We learned about cremester reflex, in which scrotum gets pulled upwards when you scratch/tickle the inner thigh (of a male, of course). Hee.
I should really look into getting an account so that I can put up the pictures. =) (mainly of my trip to CA... I was gonna call you, Miko-san! but I didn't have your number.... -_-;;;;) Or just send them with emails. =p

Wednesday, April 16, 2003 04:39 p.m.
Thanks, Mei-chan, you found my identity for me! =D I think I'll just revamp the layout at some point then. This layout has been up for too long... -_-;;;
The thing was, I felt like there are other people writing a lot better and more interesting than I do, so I felt that my blog was unworthy to be up... but that was my bout of having self-confidence issue, probably perpetuated by the endless series of tests at school. It sucks when I study so hard (granted that I don't study as continuously as some other people in my class), but don't get Honors (over 90% mark in test).... I know grade isn't everything, especially for the first two years of med school, as a lot of med schools just have pass/fail system, but my school has honors/high pass/pass/fail system (which is basically like getting grades), and my competitive instinct as pre-med kicks in sometimes... well, at least I'm not as grade-oriented as some other people....
It got worse when the coordinator (the head professor) of CTB (cell tissue biology, the class that ended at the end of March) posted the pictures of people who got honors in that class. It was a hard class, and I think people who got honors are great (and most of them are nice people, too), but it was just wrong... I mean, once you're in med school, it's not much of a competition with other people. Well, it was never, for me, but in med school, it's even more about competing with your own self. The action of the professor only resulted in making people who didn't honor the course feel bad (since, as former pre-meds, we all have competitiveness in us, even though the degree and the nature of the competitiveness are different for each person). Good thing about this situation was, though, the dean of student got really mad at the professor and even the people who got their faces up there got upset and protested. So, all's good now. =)
well, that was a long rambling... =p Now I should go and get prettied up since Hector's coming over~ =p (yes, I think I deserve all the teasings Te-chan's giving me.)

Wednesday, April 16, 2003 02:09 a.m.
It was a good day today. =D My mini-Spring-Easter break starts tomorrow and the final for physiology was yesterday (no more physio! Yay~~ One less subject to die over!!!). I went out to dinner and stroll with Hector. We walked around the downtown of Ridgewood, had Mexican dinner (good!), sat in the park talking, went to B&N, came back and watched Iron Monkey. =) Overall, it was a very nice and relaxing evening. It was also really nice not to worry about getting up tomorrow and not to worry about how much time I would have to make up in studying. I really needed something like this, a nice date. =)
So, I came back home with lots of books from used section of B&N:
"And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie, for nostalic value,
"Body of Knowledge" by Steve Giegerich, as it depicts the life of first-year med school students at my med school (wanting to get a copy for a while),
"The Sum of All Fears" by Tom Clancy, for a new reading,
"The Venetian's Wife" by Nick Bantock, something I wanted to get a copy (read it and loved it), and
Three-book set of the first "Griffin & Sabine Trilogy" by Nick Bantock!!! (great series. I was going to start collecting these... but got three for a price of one!)
I came back home very happy today, and now I'm sleepy. =p

*notice* The Castle of Queen of Bunnies blog has gone on a search for its identity.
well, I don't know what I want to write on this blog. Or if I want to keep this blog at all. As its content gets publically displayed, I'm not inclined to write any private/personal things in this, and my entries are not that interesting anyway. I guess it's a good method to let people know what's going on with my schedule (not even life) and that I'm still alive... but do people read this anyways? -_-;;;
Might revamp with pictures and such once I get my computer upgraded, but we'll see...

Monday, April 7, 2003 01:11 a.m.
Among what I got out from the trip to California..
-Lots of good time and memories
-4 shot glasses (I'm now starting a shot glass collection)
-Mickey-mouse with the magician hat ears
-A wooden flying pig
-Pooh in safari-gear key chain
and....
-A Hello Kitty Squeeze toy! (in a Sanrio store in Beverly Hills mall, to boot.)
It was fun in my first Irish pub (called Dublins). I ordered only two drinks (apple martini and margarita), but being an Irish pub, the bartender put a lot of alcohol, of course, so I was happily drunk at the end of two drinks. =D They also had a dance floor, so I had fun time there as well. With the help of alcohol in my system, I was even all over Hector when I was dancing! *gasp* *scandalous* *gasp*
It was a lot of fun. Would like to do that again, but probably not if there's a chance of running into my classmates..... -_-;;;; (My image is "sweet, innocent Sun" among classmates, according to Hector, and I'm quite content to keep my dark side hidden except to only chosen (?!) few. *evil grin*)
It's also about time to change the layout. I'll do that when I have time......which will be very much later....
