SSCB is back. I write an article that will probably make my continued placement of Sea Change under my "2002 favorites" sidebar look a bit wrong. Cibula weighs in on someone named Nate Ruth and makes me feel bad I haven't heard any of his stuff yet. OMG NED RAGGETT!!! brings the lurve for another band most people probably don't know - the Chameleons - and makes out to be one of those bands that damn well should've broken big. And JBR? I got two new songs to queue in my file-sharing program (the other two I've already got. Guess which ones!)

PS: YAY FOR MISSY

This has to be the greatest picture ever, or at least my generation's answer to Elvis Meets Nixon. On the left, you have Robert Z'Dar, he of a wide number of b-movies (including MST3K favorites Soultaker and Future War). On the right, early '90s WWF superstar turned born-again Christian Tatanka. I am completely stunned here, people. I need to lie down.

I am 33% Punk Rock

Well, I may know what punk is, but... Okay maybe some people think I am punk, but is that enough? Nope.

Take the Punk Rock Test at fuali.com
It's just as well. Maybe if I drank more often...

I just realized that quoting that G. G. Allin song has doomed me to endless referrals from people looking for "prurient materials". Whoops! Well, as long as Googlers are stumbling across this website, let me get this out of the way too:

"fremme neppa venette" is not an actual line from that new Missy song. It is, in fact, a very poor transcription of what "I put my thing down, flip it and reverse it" sounds like when played backwards, as it is on the actual track. Please stop harassing the ILx boards about it, I beg of you.

I want you to drop everything you're doing right now and pay close attention: in 1992, a then-unknown Beck Hansen, aged 22, released a demo tape that is unofficially known as "Buck Fuck Iowa". Like most of his pre-Mellow Gold material, it's just him and a guitar screwing around and being goofy; think One Foot In the Grave only a lot more ridiculous and comedic. And while the vast majority of the music on this dozen-plus-song tape is original material or rewritten parodies of existing songs, there is one song in particular which is actually a cover version.

Namely a cover version of G. G. Allin's "Tough Fuckin' Shit".

The first thing you hear is guitar strumming. It's your typical folk-country stuff, the kind of music that dates back to the Dust Bowl days of the Great Depression. It's very pleasant roots-music kind of stuff, possibly reminiscent of Woody Guthrie or Hank Williams. And then that voice comes in, and starts to sing:

Last night I was drinking up and tripping too
Hanging out in every bar on the street
Fuckin' round with sluts and whores is nothin' new
So don't fuck with us 'cause we're gonna fuck with you
'Cause we're just slobs living like Scumfuck County trash
And if we piss you off... tough fuckin' shit!

So download it already. (Thanx to Stiv for the webspace.)
