:: QotD :: ...I found myself at/ the center of a calm so pure, it was hate./ The mystery is, you can eat fear/ before fear eats you,/ you can live beyond dying--/ and become a queen/ whom nothing surprises. --The Narcissus Flower, poem by Rita Dove.
:: impress me :: It's hard to explain. It's like...John treats everybody the same, you know? I mean, he acts just as excited about seeing somebody he hardly knows as he does when he sees me. And so I feel like, what's different about me, if I'm treated exactly the same as some acquaintance? If I don't like somebody, I don't act like I do. I guess that's why a lot of people think I'm a bitch.

matches sold on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 that insufferable i!
plan for today:
now-3pm: STUDY. really. no more goofing off.
3pm-5pm: persephone rehearsal
5pm: come home, get ready for prom date
5.30: student/faculty dinner with shelley
and may i just insert here, i hope i don't underdress when i go in my $5 purple dress. way back at the beginning of this year, i went to the tag sale with ally, and found this great dress! (when i got home, i found out it was homemade too) the thing fits really well on me, i was just worried that it's not the right kind of dress...so anyway, i'm trying not to care what anyone else is dressed in, i'm just going to focus on the fact that i like this dress and i'm getting a chance to wear it. i gotta stop being so self-conscious...no one is going to notice, anyway! so who cares? as for shelley, and i quote: "i have a black dress and more or less know how to use it." hehe :O) it's gonna be fun!

ally and i had lunch together today, just the two of us...very, very nice. haven't sat down with just her in a while.
currently tucked away in schow library, but i'm not likely to get much done with this damned internet connection cable!! i've got my own laptop, too, so that means: my own music, AIM, internet, email...*grr* i should've really left all these luxuries (read: minions of procrastination) at home...
plan for tonight: i have a hot date! :O) so thomas and i are going for thai, then ally and i are going over to see the studio art majors' junior seminar projects, which should be fun.
your song lyrics of the day:
someday...
when i'm awfully low,
when the world is cold,
i will feel a glow
just thinking of you...

I get a little tongue twisted
Everytime I talk to you when I see you
And I'm so glad that you just missed it
The way I stare to memorize your face
To kiss you in my mind, love you all the time
Cause when I close my eyes
I still can see your smile
It's bright enough to light my life
Out of my darkest hour
Please believe it's true when I tell you I love you
I've taken to many chances
Searching for the truth in love, it's in my heart
Tell me if I make the wrong advances
Tell me if I've made you feel ashamed
Cause I know I have to do this
Would you hold my hand right through it...?

and now, a message from our lovely sponsor: (kari)
For those of you who are unacquainted with Buffy, it is an excellent show that plumbs the depths of human existence. It combines witty repartee, kick-ass fight sequences, heart-wrenching story-lines and character developments, loads of sexual tension and--[tui (kari's sister) and cyndi: AND REALLY HOT VAMPIRES!!]. What more can I say? Give it a try sometime. Really, you'll like it. Everyone's doing it. But I'm not addicted. Not at all. I can quit anytime I want to. I just...don't want to. Also, Joss Whedon (the creator of Buffy) has another show on the air: Firefly, which is also really good. Buffy airs every Tuesday night at 8 on UPN. And Firefly is on Friday night on Fox at 8. (No, I'm not on Joss Whedon's payroll. I just wish I was.) That's all folks. :) have a good night! (those of you who know me: HI!)

okay, of all the things i am, i am definitely *not* histrionic. i just took my psych test on all these personality disorders, too! histrionic is the female version of antisocial disorder (i mean, after its onset it tends to show up in men through antisocial traits whereas it will show up with women in histrionic traits). defensive, yes. histrionic, not so much. then again, i have been told recently that my self-perception ability is really really f--ked up, so maybe i am totally manipulative, deceptive and ego-centric. ^^, i doubt it, though!

weird moment of the day: so i was walking back home from the science quad, when i felt something sticky on my hand. i look down, and to my shock it's half covered in blood!! not kidding. so of course i freak out (of course) and the first reaction i have is to shove my hand in my mouth. then, when i get home to finally wash my hand off, guess what the wound was? this really really shallow paper cut!! seriously! and the mofo bled all over the place; it was crazy.
anyway, i thought it was really bizarre how surprised i was to see i was hurt in the first place. i mean, you would think that with something like that, its presence wouldn't have gone so unnoticed, but there i was, genuinely shocked at the state of my body. have you heard those stories of athletes or soldiers so caught up in what they're doing that they don't even feel an injury till after the heat of the moment? i think that's so weird; it's immunologically brilliant, but it's so scary that your cognitive state can be sooo somewhere else that your physical state gets thrown to the back burner.
anyway, that was my weird moment of the day. how was yours??

matches sold on Monday, November 18, 2002 late night serenade--yes, please
"so i was asleep having passed out at about 1 from a night of drunken antics (that's another story, haha). at some point during the night i heard a noise at my door and was kind of vaguely woken up (and it's hard to wake me up once I am asleep). all i hear are some faint noises, some giggling, and then someone singing the "rhiannon" song. in my semi-awake, probably still drunk, delusional state all i could figure out was that someone was playing a prank on me and i was getting all mad thinking that some drunk girls had wondered through our suite, saw my name and thought it was really funny to sing my song at some ungodly hour of the morning. and then i passed back out.
i woke up this morning to find a note on my door that said "hi rhi. love cyndi and ally. ps.." so that's when i figured it all out and realized that the ps must have been the late night serenade from ally." --rhianon
lol--actually, i saw the "p.s. [nothing]", too, and thought it was hilarious. i thought it was part of another message, though, that got erased. but how funnie is that? ^^,

matches sold on Sunday, November 17, 2002 spread the fun! (R)
hour sixteen: we finished all of acts one and two last night; we pre-did some of the tougher act three cues sans actors this morning.
pressing homework: paper on eating disorders for abnormal psych for tuesday...PNI intro/methods due fridy.
comparison: today is pretty ugly outside! still some snow on the ground but now it's all melted and unhappy, not fresh and clean like the soap, er, like yesterday's snow was.
lunch break: tuna melt, sprite (first soda i've had in ages...cream soda excluded). ignored: chips, pickle.
computer: a little unpleasant; i couldn't get the damn thing to stop freezing last night...boo.
random fun moment of the weekend: ally, marcos and geoff showing up smashed at my door last night...or rather, marcos and geoff showing up at my door last night, with a smashed ally in tow. ^^, lol--and then we went visiting friends in greylock, the consequences of which *had* to have been losing a significant number of aforementioned friends and what little respect they had for us in the first place. example:
(time) approx. 3am.
(target) old entrymate.
(dialogue)
ally. (whimper) rhi. ...rhiiiii (scratch on door with nails)....rhhhhhiiiii....
cyn. (whisper) ally, i think she's asleep.
ally. (still scratching on door) rhiiiiaaaanon. rhiANON!
cyn. (giggle. whisper) ally. let's just talk to her tomorrow. come on.
ally. rhhhhhhhiiiiiaaaaanon!! rhhhiiiiANON!!
cyn. (laughing, feeling devilish) hey. maybe you should sing her song...
ally. (singing, "rhiannon" by stevie nicks) rhiiiannon....rings like a bell...through the night... (stops, looks at me.) and wouldn't you love to love her?
cyn. (bustin' up laughing) (whisper) i was *kidding*!!!!

woke up this morning--snowing outside! ^^, gorgeous. =almost= made up for the fact that it's 8.40am!! definitely too early to be awake, but the theater calls.
thougtful plan for today:
9am: show up for tech.
9am-9.45: wait around while everyone shows up and gets ready...mooch coffee off those who have it...hug sara martin a lot...get jealous at how awake andrew will be compared to how tired i will be.
~10am: actually start tech...mess up cues...apologize profusely...attempt to correct mistake...more apologizing...finally correct mistake...feel guilt that it was my fault everything took so long...repeat.
sometime around noon-1ish: lunch...bitch about how much i hate tech even though i love it...reluctantly go back to the theater...
more tech...
midnight: stumble out of theater, determined to go to sleep.
12.08: get back to hopkins...drink.
1am: against all common sense, go out to a party.

matches sold on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 friendlyness...
mmm...just got back from a two-and-a-half-hour lunch with genevieve!! ^_^ sooo full, but we chatted and got caught up and laughed a lot, so it was most definitely time well spent.
also today--drew blood from our rats. well, not me exactly, prof. friedman did it, but i was right there recording those times! :) then we let the blood set, put it in ice for awhile, and then put them in the spinny thing (sorry, centrifuge is the non-cyndiland term), and then ashley and i got to take off the serum that separated from the red blood cells for freezing. sounds bizarre, but i'm so un-sciencey that it was really, really cool. actually handling everything as opposed to reading about the results is fascinating stuff; i'm excited to see, after the end of all the testing, what we find.
okay...tonight i'll have to see a run-thru of ally's and marcos's show, cause all this weekend i am a slave to the theater, teching for angels...and i can feel the workload rising exponentially behind my back while i'm not looking.
yay for harry potter on friday!!!

matches sold on Tuesday, November 12, 2002 bloody brilliant.
so...nothing too exciting lately...nyc was fun, but a little dull cause i didn't really hang out w/a group of ppl. thanksgiving will be better when i have time to poke around the city and kari. :O)
woyzeck was very interesting, though...some very haunting images! the music was repetitive and creepy--i don't know anything about music but at times it reminded me of phillip glass on crack, and then at times it reminded me of a love song sung very slowly...the set and lights were gorgeous. very angular and sharp, plus the colors were vivid and meaningful, each. the main female lead wore this AMAZING strapless asymmetrical RED dress that flared out at the calves, so it swished around her body with every movement. it was gorgeous! plus all the actors were really talented--they had a control over their bodies that definitely evoked a non-western (could be japanese) theater feel. very cool.
hopefully for thanksgiving kari and i will get to see metamorphosis on broadway. that would rock, even though she's already seen it she says she wouldn't mind seeing it again (a real testament to a show's quality!).
i was sent this link today from lucas: exploding dog, which i really really love. (not love enough to pay $65 for anything, but enough to spend lots of time clicking all the interesting titles). the pictures are really something else. it's kind of inspiring to know that so much expression can be sown into a stick figure face (gives me a little bit of hope when i act). truly, so much sadness (or excitement, or shock, or whatever emotion) is shown just through some circle eyes and a line mouth and some square body, it's amazing. i love it.

matches sold on Monday, November 4, 2002 rats!
today i went into the science labs for the first part of my research proejct for PNI. we have to handle the rats--basically get them accustomed to being picked up, held, and touched, before we start implementing the experimental design (afflicting them with acute and chronic mild stress, then measuring cytokine levels). so we go in there, and there are all these male white rats in their cages! and they're all albino too, so their eyes are really red, which is fairly creepy. actually handling them was fairly easy--just put on gloves and picked em up and put them in a big cloth and held em! five minutes with each rat...36 rats to hold btwn the four of us. we'll have to do it again tomorrow, before the experiment starts wednesday. isn't that interesting, though? i never do anything sciencey, so this was a totally new experience for me.

matches sold on Sunday, October 27, 2002 wrap it up
whew! closing night was last night--it was crazy. it was past 7pm (go time at 8) and we were missing two actors. isn't that insane?! luckily, they both got there okay...then we were in the dressing rooms with about 15 min till curtain and one of the girls, who had to carry a light torch lit by a battery pack, got burned by the damn thing! so we had to tear it off her back, only to find that the thing had short-circuited, melted through the wire, and was hot as hell. isn't that awful?
anyway, despite all that bad luck, we had a really great run, and we were all on. it went really well. then the cast party was...interesting...our whole cast dynamic is fairly off and on with some people, so there was that...and then there was all the alcohol...whoo! very interesting mix. so then we headed out to dance a little, which is great fun as always, and when i got back 3rd floor C and i somehow got involved in a high-stakes, cutthroat, no-prisoners game of go fish. ^_^ good times, all.

i'm wearing genevieve's red raver pants today!! *big grin* soo hot; they make me so happy.
actually, it's really funny how clothes can work for my mood. sometimes when i feel like it in the morning, i'll get a little dressier, like black pants and a nice top and boots or heels, and i just feel more elegant all day. or, if i wear something just a little funkier, it gives me this cool, "chill" kind of confidence, you know what i mean? little things like that can really set the mood for my day; i will really feel more confident, and it will come off that way to others, too, i think.
anyway, i open tonight; yay!

so alix and i just had this great talk about old trashy books we used to read--i was *obsessed* with christopher pike for the longest time, god, and sweet valley too (lol, i still remember getting all the really good university ones from my supplier in high school, lol). we were into the good stuff, too, though, like babysitters club (gotta love those moral clinchers at the end!) and nancy drew. it's so weird, isn't it, how she and i can be from totally different places and now, when we're 19, come back and find that we read the same books when we were a kid. i mean, we were talking about the same books among these huge series!! and how we identified with certain characters, and hated other ones but loved reading about them...i find it more fascinating than identifying with each other about classics (cause everyone knows and loves the classics). somehow, sharing in some guilty pleasure is a great bonding thing.

matches sold on Monday, October 14, 2002 oh legolas
elaine, you were soo right when you first told me how sexy he was. :) anyway, i just saw a new trailer for the two towers, which was AMAZING. the first one i saw i *thought* was good, but the beginning was just too many flashes of images (that's the one narrated by cate blancett). this one is crazy incredible (click one of the first four under the heading "trailer" not "teaser"--it starts off with legolas, aragorn, and the dwarf getting surrounded)...anyone recognize the music at the end? yeah, that's Requiem for a Dream's soundtrack (clint mansell and the chronos quartet). absolutely amazing. great great trailer. ^_^
okay, so i got a little worked up over it all...no big deal. i'm totally chill. and resilient.
...right???

wow i've been busy the last couple days--but not doing work. eep. lots of drinking and having fun, actually, so it's buckle-down time now. quick run-down of the weekend:
friday night~started off the night in prospect, hanging out w/awesome people and making dinner. shameful moment: i was watching the food...and...erm...i set off the fire alarm. -_-* i am SO LAME.
later friday night~ QUEER BASH! theme: heaven and hell. costume: erm. i didn't have one. however, thomas definitely snapped a photo of me on the dance floor, so if you're curious as to what i wore, email me and i'll forward it to you. hehe. it's crazy. alcohol: smirnoff ices and coronas. then we went down to bobby's suite and i had vodka shots. hehe. goodrich: flashy, sexy, raunchy!! wonderful. and props to colby for light board opping. i actually only stayed for a half hour or so, not very long at all. post party: hung out in mike's room for a couple hours, just talking. it was totally nice. postpost party: i was in bed, half asleep, when shira called me and was like, "can i come over to talk?" lol, and i'm totally drunk, so i was like, sure! wtf not? so she comes into my room, and i'm lying in bed, and she's sitting there in the dark, and we were just talking. it was totally bizarre. i think i was definitely falling asleep at some point, so i'm glad she didn't mind.
saturday night~got back from: laura, andrew and i made dinner for andrew's mom (go laura for setting it all up). stopped by: 2nd floor B and caught the end of death to smoochy (HILARIOUS). who was there: the usual crew, marcos, geoff, lucas, matt, andres. headed to: snack bar, then we came back and watched tv. alcohol: two beers, an octoberfest and a pale ale of some sort; several shots of absolut with geoff ("where the f--k did all the absolut go?!" "dude. you f--king drank it." lol).
sunday morning~ brunch with mark, ally, michella, and two of her friends at mission. email: mike, kimmy, alana, elaine, shira, and the junior sem group for dangerous liaisons.
plan for the rest of today: STUDY. seriously, i'm soo behind.
