Diaryland is being so slow recently... I think I'm going to start updating the pitas more and more. I was explaining to my friend Judi last night why it is that I love reading so much... or at least why I initially began to love reading. Really great writing always has a way of describing an image, feeling, some sensual experience in such a way that makes me sit back, breathe in and say, "wow. that's exactly how that is." I wish that I could write that way... I know that writing well is an art form that doesn't happen overnight, just like any talent, so I'm going to practice and take more courses.

The Crickets sang
And set the Sun
And Workmen finished one by one
Their Seam the Day upon.

The low Grass loaded with the Dew
The Twilight stood, as Strangers do
With Hat in Hand, polite and new
To stay as if, or go.

A Vastness, as a Neighbor, came,
A Wisdom, without Face, or Name
A Peace, as Hemispheres at Home
And so the Night became.

The Russian Avant-Garde Book 1910-1934 shows 112 books that were created in the small window of time before Stalin decreed that Socialist Realism would be the only art style. This collection has some of the most beautiful illustrations and graphic designs. Here is a children's book by El Lissitzky, one of the artists featured in the exhibit. His designs are quite stunning.
Amazons of the Avant-Garde is a collection of art from women of this period.

Tumbling Woman was indeed morbid, but it should have remained due to it's power of rememberance.

Remember the girl in Pakistan who was gang raped as punishment for her brother's affair? Well, the men were sentenced to death today. I never saw that coming.
