yeah, so that's a weird movie. as is trainspotting, which i just watched in its entirity last night at like 2 am. good stuff though.
i've gotten three wrong number calls today - two on the home phone, and one on my cell. one of the people was really nice/funny,
"Hi!! Who is this?"
me: "Um, Lindsay"
"Who? Quimby?"
me: "No, Lindsay"
"Wendy??"
me: "Lindsay!"
"Oh. Where's Laura?"
me: "She's not available... I think you have a wrong number"
"Really? HAHAHAHA! so what number did I call?"
me: "742-****"
"Oh, yeah, that's definitely not the right number. It' been lovely talking with you though! Bye now!"

sorry for the uh, lack of color, but it's exceedingly difficult to take a picture of a very fast fish in a round glass container. he's actually really bright blue/green. very purdy :)

"But when you're already going crazy from confinement, it doesn't matter how much you like someone, how much you love them, how grateful you are for their kindness to you. They will make you nuts. Everything they do grates on you like a bad song that won't get out of your head. You just want to scream at them to shut. Up. But you don't, beacause you love them and you know that you're probably driving them crazy too and as long as there's no hope of release you've got to keep things calm..." - Shadow of the Hegemon by Orson Scott Card
i think i'm over-reading myself. i'm in the middle of Shadow of the Hegemon, Salt, The Son of a Circus, and Tess of the D'Urbervilles. not to mention Les Mis, which i still haven't finished. yum. fell asleep in the corner with all my pillows again last night. i woke up at 6 when father's alarm went off. watched the sun rise... would've gone running if i weren't sick.
i rediscovered the red hot chili peppers last night, wonderful stuff :)
can't wait for this wkend. thanksgiving will suck, but that's ok, i'll read my way through it. maybe daryl's mother will play some stuff on the piano - premature christmas carols and such.
i make a mean bowl of mini-wheats, if i do say so myself.

i'm on my third cup of hot chocolate for the night. i definitely don't know the meaning of that saying about too much of a good thing being bad for you. in fact, i don't even remember how it goes. that's ok, i'm not very coherant right now - tess is wrecking havoc on my brain. is that even how you spell havoc? you know how if you say a word to yourself too many times it starts to sound so weird? i learned what's that's called today: mental saturation. to conclude my tangent, tess is a bird. she is not a snake, that's alec. alec is also a sun. and we all know that spring is the time for beginnings and really long walks up really steep hills. horses are also usually impaled at this time. white means purity, hence tess's white dress. apples can be replaced by strawberries in the garden of eden. and what do you call a random guy writing phrases from the bible all over roadside trees etc..? you call him mr. obvious irony.
yeah, so this is some good hot chocolate.

i needed the shelter of someones arms - and there you were
my major accomplishment of the day: getting a copy of tess of the d'urbervilles for $1.00 and a copy of shadow of the hegemon for $1.25. yay for used book stores!
why do i never capitalize?
won't you let me go down in my dreams, and rock-a-bye sweet baby james

i love how good music makes everything so temporarily awesome. and i love how friends can do the same thing even when just offering their words. the two combined is quite a potent mixture indeed.
one second ago... i was drinking hot chocolate.
one minute ago... i decided that yes, i'm dumb and am not going to study for my math test tomorrow.
one hour ago... i was reading to my fish. he likes me.
one day ago... i was drawing.
one week ago... i was anticipating a very good weekend with joe.
one month ago... i was in york with some of the most excellent chicas around.
one year ago... i had to consult the trusty 10th grade agenda for this one; i was in MD visting kasey. that was kinda weird, and a long time ago. but it only feels like yesterday - where'd the year go?
one decade ago... i was in hunt valley playing with kasey every day and being a cheerful, untroubled second grader with a love of running, reading and bike riding.
one lifetime ago... mom had a very long night.
stolen from dane, 'cause i thought it was cool.
winamp just pulled acoustic #3.

i wish i wish he'd go away. identity. psycho movie. i recommend it ;)
soooooo how're you? my weekend was delicious, how about yours? but now, for some reason, there's this thing called school that has managed to put me in a fairly, how shall i put this... BAD MOOD.
Dear Mr. Merritt,
I cannot express how much I dislike you. Please learn how to teach between now and tomorrow. I hope to God that I'm not as stupid as you've implied I am, because then I won't be able to feed myself at dinner tonight. Oh, and concerning tomorrow's test that you just happened to tell us about today... F U.
With all my love and malice,
Lindsay Blair Trice
Dear Sra. Worthington,
I know you must be, at the minimum, a semi-smart lady. Some of us would actually like to learn some Spanish. This task would be greatly facillitated if one day you decided to, oh, teach us some Spanish? Not that your stories of Florida, fire ants, kidney stones, and your cats aren't scintillating ... all right, they aren't... but really, it's SPANISH CLASS. I'd like to sit you down with this wonderful lady named Sra. Valero. She probably doesn't read the massive amount of mindless fiction novels that you do, but she sure does know her espaņol. Oh, but thanks for assigning that presentation - it amuses me to see everyone panicking over the thought of actually speaking Spanish for a WHOLE THREE MINUTES! Gosh, imagine that!
Contemptfully yours,
Adela.
on that note, we're starting tess of the d'urbervilles en la clase de ingles soon. have mixed feelings about this. certainly glad beowulf is over though... we've spent waaaaay too much time contemplating the heroic code and norman invasion and anglo-saxon ideas of weath and whatever for my taste. good book though; i wish i could read the original anglo-saxon ;)
tayn - three letters in a row? i'm impressed! the one with the little green die in it arrived in one of those damaged mail packages, hehe. it's pretty mangled! what happened to that candy i sent you? hehe, that was a personal experiment...
hmm, in other news, Thanksgiving w/ the eastern shore trices is going to royally suck. let's see, it's going to be mom, dad, laura, aunt ellen, uncle daryl, granny, daryl's parents and me. joe can certify that my reaction when i was told this was significantly less that pleased. it's going resemble chinese water torture, only without the chinese (damn) or the water. substitute some eastern shore-men for the chinese, and huge amounts of dry turkey and crusty stuffing for the water... ugh. "what grade are you in? eleventh? awwwwwwwwwwwwwww i remember when you were in third grade! you were so cute! i could kiss you like THIS and you'd smiiiiiile at me alllll day long!" "what kind of shoes does uncky daryl wear? clodhoppers!" kill me now.

final canned food tally for our english class: 1891. dinvine bovine [holy cow]. the amazing thing is that another class may have beaten us... but i have my doubts. we rock!
i have discovered the journal of a person who very well may be the epitome of ignorance. you can read his wonderfully didactic spiel on how rape fantasies protect a women's body against rape, or, for some REAL excitement, check out his theories on why water boils! mmhmm, yep. i would really like to take a 2x4, find this guy, and whack him a couple times over the head. or maybe i'll just stay the heck away.
joe here in t minus 4 hours and counting!

| oooh baby yeah! |
Thursday, 11.13.03 :: 07:29 p.m. |
that, mis amigos, is one heck of a lot of cans. 178 to be exact. canned food drives are fun, especially when your english teacher is super competitive and spends half the class period talking canned-food-drive-strategy with you. but yeah, we're gonna win, and lots of people are gonna have some yummy thanksgiving/xmas dinners! :) happy early thanksgiving! (and tomorrow's FRIDAY!) woot!
PS. jean, being the brilliant beyotch that she is (oooh, alliteration!), figured out that you can't see all my pics if you're using the AOL browser. so, don't use that if you wanna see 'em, i guess. yup, that's my computer genious for ya ;)

just 2 days now... mmm!
had a nice conversation in physics about music, it's nice when you find people who know of groups other than like britney spears. ok, well, she's not exactly a "group" persay, but you get my point. 'twas refreshing, and now i have a list of some new stuff to check out that i haven't heard of before. very good :) oh, and in english on tuesday we had this insighful discussion about the structure of certain movies, so i also have a list of movies to check out... identity, pulp fiction (yeah, haven't seen it, can you believe it?), and adaptation, among others. have any you'd like to add? or music groups for that matter. or books! you know i'll take book suggestions any day ;) speaking of which, the further i get into a son of the circus the more i realize how awesome irving is. i mean, come on, who could think up plots like this? and his writing itself is so yummy! hehe, i recommend any of his stuff - i don't have a favorite, they're all good :) i should see the movie adaptations of cider house and hotel new hampshire; i've already seen garp and simon birch, muy bien. they're also making an adaptation of a widow for one year, that's called "door in the floor." yay! for more on this, go here. :)
thought of the day: why do crowds of guys leaning against lockers line the hallways? it's disturbing, they don't talk and they give every girl that walks down the hallway one of those up-and-down looks. this is extremely annoying, especially with how crowded the hallways are here.

ahh can't wait till friday. i have lots of work to do before then though. however, ironically, i'm not getting any of it done. ponder that. i will go to bed before 12. i will.

yay for Bridget~! i just got your letter ;) my mom yelled upstairs after she got the mail... "oh my gosh! lindsay, you got a letter from THAILAND! oh look! it's from bridget! and look at all this cool stuff on the envelope!" hehe, so you made both me and my mom happy. you'll get a letter soon too, doncha worry!
anyway, i took a 2 hour nap after i got home. yum, nap. and now i'm putting of homework, while listening to coldplay. glad to hear all you guys liked the donkey thing, it's been stuck in my head for awhile now, hehe. yep, that's pretty much it. bye now :)

wtf is right, Julia. but if you thought that was cool check this or this out. YEEHAAAAAW! it's like what i would do if i were really high or something. metaphorically speaking, of course ;) oh, and this is just weird. i get bored easily :)
mmm, $17 spent at BN. much better than my last trip there, when i spent $26 for 2 books; this time i got 2 books AND a magazine! Dracula by Bram Stoker, A Son of the Circus by John Irving, and marie claire. i'm such a nerd, really. oh, but dad came with me, 'cause i still don't have my license (no comments, please) and we didn't kill each other. or even argue with each other. this is probably due to my good mood brought on by being at BN. BUT STILL. I AM PROUD.
oh, and if spidey had friends (does he?) he'd dance like THIS!

happy saturday night y'all ;)

Saturday, 11.8.03 :: 12:08 a.m. |
oh my, thank GOODNESS it's friday and hell fortnight part one is over. if ever possible, never ever miss 6 days of school, it's not fun, especially the making stuff up part. especially the trying to make stuff up by friday because it's the end of the marking period thing. fah!
so, i was sitting in the orthodontist's office waiting for dr. perim to finish installing laura's funky jaw splint and reading a people magazine. in walks this hispanic guy, he's maybe 27 years old. we say hi and exchange all the usual "you're a stranger but i have to sit in here with you so we have to say SOMETHING!" pleasantaries. then he picks up a magazine, another people magazine, and starts flipping through it. eventually he gets bored with this, puts it back down, and picks up the next magazine on the pile. nothing unusual, right? wrong! the next magazine happened to be the latest issue of cheerleader! [insert obnoxious *squeal* here]. ok, if it were i in this situation, i would just put it back down and find some other source of reading material... wouldn't you? (no offense to any cheerleaders out there.) well, he didn't do this, for some reason it seemed to make him extremely uncomfortable that he had even picked it up in the first place. he was in one heck of a quandary, hehe. he didn't want me to see that he had picked it up, and couldn't decide whether to put it back down or keep it and "read" it. (now, this is just speculation on my part, but i consider myself to be fairly good at reading people). so what does he do, WHAT DOES HE DO? he keeps it and reads it. i wouldn't think this is unusual, because, hey, he could just look at the half-naked girls, but i had to ask him whether there was anything really interesting in it (what? i HAD to! c'mon, he was reading it really intensely! :) ) his reply: "yeah, actually, look here [proceeds to point out a paragraph on a page WITHOUT pictures] they're saying that it helps to work on your flips with this special pair of shoes on... and here, this girl's favorite color of soffe [he pronounced this sorta like you would say "souflette" - is that even how you spell that?] shorts is green." i looked at him, and he looked at me, and we both started laughing really really hard. oh man, it was SO FUNNY. if you think laughing with friends is funny, try it with a complete stranger, who happens to be about 27 and more than a few pounds overweight - who's reading a cheerleading magazine. :D he threw it down, searched the pile and found some hunting magazine.
also: red dragon is uber scary. apparently i should *not* see hannibal, and i think i'll take this advice, since i was hugging a couple pillows throughtout red dragon. mom thinks this is funny. yeeeessir. that's me. :)
next weekend - richmond. sound like a plan? i think so, but does mother? hmm.

| doncha make fun of me |
Wednesday, 11.5.03 :: 05:42 p.m. |
gonna be gonna be... be A HOT DANCER! hehe, just found this song my incubus. es amusing!
mmm, i had a kid's cuisine for dinner, then half of a fajita. brings back memories of being babysat in hunt valley and wyndham :) except, now the meals are a lot smaller (or maybe i just got bigger?) and you don't get a cool illusion toy thing. and i think they got more complicated too... but i won't go into that.

Tuesday, 11.4.03 :: 04:16 p.m. |
hmmm, guess putting up with the cold is worth it...? so now who wants to go check out minneapolis with me? :) balmer's pretty high on the list too, very cool!
i have an ungodly amount of work to do. and i need to clean my room. bah.
have you ever had anyone ask if you're feeling better after you've been sick for awhile, and before you can say that you do feel a lot better, they say, "awww, you still don't look so great" or something along those lines? yeah, definitely had three people do that to me today. my reply: "oh, yeah..." so do i ever look like i'm not sick? maybe i just need a nap.

ugh, yo tengo un REALLY EFFING BIG HEADACHE. just did 12 pages of math hwk, looked up and wrote down all the spanish vocab from a 40 page chapter, read 20 pages of gov't shiznit, and looked over some pronoun usage notes. i am tired. and my back hurts. and yes, i enjoy complaining. :P my poor fish is still sick :( and he still doesn't have a name, so he's still not allowed to die. poor fish. i really want to go to sleep now. bye bye.

| man overboard |
Saturday, 11.1.03 :: 11:04 p.m. |
sooo, $26.50 later, i'm back from BN with two new books. how sad is that? 27 bucks for two books. oh well, they look promising: The Arabs and Complications. we shall see. of course, i'm also in the midst of reading Salt: A World History and the fourth Harry Potter book in spanish, but hey, i've got time, right? even with my 7 days worth of hwk to do... yeah, i've got time. :) so, dinner was interesting. somehow mom started talking about how i apparently sleep with my eyes half-open, and i (stupidly) made a comment that went something like this: "oh? eww, that's really weird - joe does that!" note to self: NEVER SAY ANYTHING IN FRONT OF FATHER THAT IMPLIES SLEEPING WITH JOE. sleeping meaning lack of conciousness, though i'm preeetty sure dad wouldn't like the other meaning of the word.
ANYWAY.
my halloween was uneventful, i watched Halloween 5 (hehe, TAKE THE GIRL! AHHHHHHHHH!!!), and when that was over mom came in and put in the movie Whalerider. definitely a good movie - i recommend it. Maori = really cool. trick-or-treaters only rang our doorbell 3 times... a poor showing. mom always says that the phonebook gets an inch thinner each time she moves (read: baltimore, york, here), and i think we can add the number of trick-or-treaters that we get to that theory. in hunt valley, you couldn't go outside on halloween without being trampled by a bunch of frenzied kids as they ran laughing and screaming from house to house. then there was york - definitely not as many kids, and the houses in wyndham are waay far apart (or, at least, they used to be...) but it was still fun. and now here, in salisbury, where the few kids in the neighborhood are driven from house to house in a "haywagon." haywagon = pickup truck with hay. :) hey, whatever works.
am very tired, as a direct result from that dratted SAT. i definitely forgot how long that thing is. hope i got a 1600, that would be so very nice :) on another note, there were a couple whoops girls there. twas strange seeing them out of context, so to speak. wonder if they'll get into any of those florida/south carolina colleges that they all seem to want to attend. i swear, it's like anyone who graduates from that high school goes to college either in florida, south carolina, or at villanova. hmm. gonna go read... tayn, you = awesome.
