Thursday, May 30, 2002 11:15 p.m. listening to: nothing To quote to inestimable Eggie, ooo, I feel like doody. Thursday, May 30, 2002 08:31 p.m. listening to: "Strange Waters" - Bruce Cockburn Tips for leading a frugal life: Eat porridge instead of rice; it lasts longer and is more filling. Shop at Chinese supermarkets for meat and produce. When eating off a menu, choose what seems to be the most filling and least expensive. Bring a waterbottle everywhere. Do not order fast-food combos. Do not borrow money; you attain a greater respect for the dollar when you're starving every time you don't have one. If you have only a dollar, buy a drink instead of food. The human body can live for a month without food, but not nearly so long without water. If there is little to no difference in price, buy one of those "sport drinks" like Gatorade or Powerade instead of water; they contain calories and carbohydrates, necessary for continued function. Reuse all your scratch paper. Recycle. Pay attention to unit prices. Always make sure you get your money's worth. If it's possible to buy more with less, then for Christ's sake do it. Always eat all your food. Don't be picky. Order water instead of soda. Learn to tell the difference between what you need and what you want. Save your change and check behind the couch cushions; every penny counts. If you don't finish your food, pack it up and save it for later. Buy new shoes only when you absolutely have to. Make your own toys. Visit the library often. Do not use credit cards. Buy only practical things. Be punctual in returning rented or borrowed objects. Learn to make do without. Clip coupons. Eat slowly; the food lasts longer and it makes you feel more full. Buy things on sale. Budget. Don't waste anything. Admittedly, I don't follow all these rules; I follow maybe half of them. But Lordy, it bewilders me when I see people pay a dollar for a carton of juice and a muffin when s/he could have gotten something more filling. It also frustrates me when I pass a trash can and see half-eaten hamburgers and picked-at muffins. People are so wasteful. Wednesday, May 29, 2002 09:17 p.m. listening to: "Break" - Brendan O'Donnell My life has been really, really boring lately. However, I will say this: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ASHLEA~!!! Monday, May 27, 2002 07:40 p.m. listening to: "Down From Above" - Moxy Fruvous / "Horse With No Name" - America I saw Spirit today! Beware of spoilers! The movie amazingly did not suck! Well, that may be because it was done by Dreamworks, who do not do crap, and also because it was directed by Lorna Cook (who, if you don't know, did work on The Lion King). And there was music by Hans Zimmer! Mmmm. The first fifteen minutes or so of the movie were pure sugar, featuring our protagonist (who, by the way, is not actually named Spirit; through the entire movie he's referred to as "mustang" until the end, when Little Creek calls him "spirit who could not be broken") as a young colt doing funny things like playing with bison and getting his tongue stuck to icicles. No, the horses do not talk. I think this is a good thing, because if they had talked it would have ruined the movie. As it was, I was amazed at how expressive they were without words. It was very clear what the horses were communicating to each other the entire time. Part of this is probably because they were animated with eyebrows, which adds a lot to facial expressions. I cried once during the movie. I teared up twice. I will leave it up to the discretion of the viewer to decide where these places were. It makes me sad that the wild mustang is virtually extinct. There are no longer any such herds roaming the plains. Then Linda and I went downtown, and I got Ashlea's very belated birthday present and. . . and. . . absolutely nothing for myself, now that I think about it. Hrm. I did, however, make a half-hearted attempt to find The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis in Japanese. I was unsuccessful, but I did discover that it's called merely The Witch and the Lion in Japanese, probably because Japanese people do not use wardrobes, to my knowledge. I wonder if amazon.co.jp has it? Well, my search turned up several choices, though unfortunately none of them seem to be in Japanese. Alas. However, one of them has a amazingly cool book cover. Wow. Sunday, May 26, 2002 07:35 p.m. listening to: same I [HEART] Will. Sunday, May 26, 2002 07:23 p.m. listening to: ditto ![]() Which Peanuts Character Are You Quiz Yay. I allus liked Charlie Brown. I felt so sorry for him, too.
What type of Bishounen are you? Find out at artificial-soul.net by Rin. . . . er. Yay? Amea: My birthday was in March; I dunno if you consider that recent or not. **shrug** No presents necessary! Really! Eggie: I find it hilarious that that test has Kamui for their "tragic figure" bishounen. **snerk** I'm not really sure why, either. Walker: In the same vein, I don't think Soujirou is appropriate for "shy guy." He's not really. . . shy. More like eerily cheerful. Sunday, May 26, 2002 05:49 p.m. listening to: "Horse With No Name" - America Blah blah blah FFX blah blah blah SPOILERS blah. I am currently on the Highroad en route to Djose. Spent quite a bit of time running around, seeking treasure, levelling up. I got my ass kicked by that summoner lady there. Blarg. I don't use my Aeons nearly enough, probably because Yuna is quite useless if not in a boss fight. Her attack power sucks. She is, however, the best healer I've ever seen. Way better than Aeris, because after a certain point Aeris's healing powers became useless. But nobody else besides Yuna is even capable of healing (asides from using Potions, that is), so in this case she's horribly useful. And the Aeons kick ass, too. I have Auron in my party. Boy, does he kick ever-lovin' ass. To paraphrase a Technomancy meme, I got an eight-foot erection watching him prepare for battle during the fiend invasion of Luca. And boy, they really went all-out on the whole "ronin" look for him, didn't they? Right down to the big ol' jug of sake at the hip. I don't care if sake doesn't exist in Spira, it sure as hell looks like sake. I'm really liking this whole sphere system thing. You know, from the very beginning I never believed that Tidus hated his father. Now I'm even more convinced; I think that Tidus really craves approval from his father. Anyone would, in his place. And I think his reaction was really realistic, after meeting Auron again, what with the flailing and the screaming and the frustration. I love this game. I also think that Lulu must have loved Chappu at one point. There are a lot of hints dropped here and there. And Lulu/Wakka is possibly one of the most bizarre couples I've ever seen. What is this fascination with sultry dark-haired woman + lovable dork couples that Square seems to have? But I find Lulu/Wakka strangely endearing, especially considering how Wakka seems to be mildly obsessed with replacing Chappu. Edea/Cid Cramer was just strange. I want to find out more about Kimahri. And I want to see what the Crusaders are up to. And I want to ride a chocobo. And--and--and--gosh, I love this game. And that's all I really have to babble about right now, I think. I wonder if it's safe for me to read FFX fanfiction yet? Saturday, May 25, 2002 07:12 p.m. listening to: "Angry Young Man" - Billy Joel I just got my SAT scores. 1350. Not bad; not what I consider good, but not bad. I'm confident I'll do better next time, since next time I won't be a bloody idiot and forget that they give me math formulas on the first page of every math section. The really eerie part is that I got a 30 on the ACT, which is equivalent to a 1340 on the SAT I. How spooky is that? Friday, May 24, 2002 06:45 p.m. listening to: "Noah's Dove" - 10,000 Maniacs Most of my friends are out of school already. This is where I say, merrily, I hate you all! Thank you. |
