Noooooooooo, something is horribly wrong with my speakers!

I believe this is a case of, "You get what you pay for."

**weeps**

[Edit: I managed to fix them. Whew! But still, I suspect these speakers are not long in living.]

AT LAST, THE NETWORK IS BACK UP! **gibbers**

Went to Bayfair today, which is the big plaza/mall thing in San Leandro. Spent far too much money at Target. But they were all very necessary things. Really.

The Mills Network is probably going to be down, like, most of the day. So, not much blogging for me, methinks.

My finger appears to be a bit swollen, but I'm not in pain anymore. So this is good.

OW FUCK OW.

So I have one of the handicapped rooms, right? And it's nice; it's huge because it needs enough room for a wheelchair, it's close to the handicapped bathrooms with the huge shower stalls, it's great. There are a few flaws, like the coat rack in the closet is very low (but that's fine; it's not like I'm hanging any dresses or anything), and there's a doorbell that doesn't "ring," it flashes this really bright light (for deaf people). And also, the door closes on its own.

At first, the door closing thing was merely an annoyance. In the beginning of the year, people who didn't realize that my door closed on its own thought I was being antisocial. I had to buy a doorstop. But now, with my doorstop, it's something I can live with.

Until today, when I looked away for a brief moment while locking my door (someone said hi), and it closed on my fingers.

I just took two Tylenol. I'm going to stop typing now, because the more I type, the more it hurts.

I'm actually not sure if I like the revised version or what. I think I should stop while I'm ahead before I mangle the whole thing horribly. More than it already is, anyway.

GASP. IT'S A WALLPAPER.

Series: Trigun
Character: Vash the Stampede
Song/Title: "Blaze of Glory" by Jon Bon Jovi

Blurb: This collage looks simple, but wow did it give me a lot of grief. All because I'm retarded and shouldn't be trusted with an eraser. Or any sort of design program, really.

I'm not going to rant about the recent ban on intrauterine cranial decompression abortions because, well, I don't really like the idea of it myself. It does sound awfully cruel if there's nothing wrong with the birth. I do not, however, agree with the people in the article who are saying things like, "This kind of treatment to an innocent child, who would otherwise be born alive, who is healthy with a healthy mother ... there is no excuse for it." Okay, actually, yes, I do (gasp!) agree with that statement. That statement, however, completely ignores that most late-term abortions are performed when the mother's life is in unquestionable danger. It's not just a matter of, "Gosh, I'm six months into my pregnancy and I've decided to kill the baby." It's more like, "Ma'am, your baby has developed a severe case of hydrocephalus and her head has swollen to fifteen inches in diameter. She's not going to live, and neither are you, if you attempt to give birth." Are we going to just kill the baby, or are we going to kill the mother and the baby? Let's be reasonable, here.

This is a very useful site for anyone who wants to read up on late-term abortions.

(I also refuse to believe that this ban will stop anyone from performing a late-term abortion if the mother's life is definitely in danger. I hope I'm not just being optimistic, here.)

I'm sure I've said this before, but this is one of the most gorgeous cover songs I've ever heard. I love Off the Beat.

All right, so now that I have some free time, I'll try and do a quick run-down of Y-con (and events preceding Y-con, some of which got eaten in the pitas crash).

Friday: Attend appointment at the DMV in order to apply for state ID. The appointment check-in window is unmanned and it takes me a while to get the attention of one of the workers. I fill out a form and she gives me a slip for a "drivers license non appointment" despite the fact that I do have an appointment. Once this is rectified, I am helped. I show my passport, everything goes smoothly until she asks for six dollars. I do not have six dollars. I do not even have enough money for fare to San Francisco and was seriously contemplating panhandling at the BART station. I end up tramping around in the hot sun for half an hour until I find an ATM which charges me $3 to withdraw. I finish paying and leave for San Francisco.

Once at the convention, I realize that it will take me approximately thirty years to be registered. I sign up to be a volunteer and am registered right away. I don't remember what else I do, but I do go home (to Oakland) eventually.

Saturday: I rise at 6 AM and somehow still get to the convention rather later than I expected (at 8:30 as opposed to 8:00, as planned) thanks to late busses. Still, I am one of the first people in the dealer's room, thanks to the Early Bird pass. I shop around and acquire:

a cross necklace shaped like Wolfwood's Cross Punisher (the most ironic piece of jewelry I've ever donned)
a keychain shaped like Vash's gun
two Trigun doujinshi
a random shounenai manga (for three dollars!)
miscellaneous trinkets

. . . and I think that's it. I restrained myself rather admirably, non?

And I think I must have attended a few panels/movie showings, but I no longer remember. Stayed the night in Gen's room. Was traumatized by Legend of the Blue Wolf.

Saturday: Got three hours of sleep. Got up early to watch Kaze to Ki no Uta. Went back to sleep. Got up to go to Walgreens, get food, maybe watched another video? Don't remember. Wandered around in dealer's room some more. Got some more trinkets. Eventually went home.

I really, really want to write.

Well, as you can see, I'm finally able to log into my pitas again. I suppose this means I'll have to do that Y-con entry, then. ^^;; I also managed to recover some (but not all, methinks) of my lost entries thanks to the magic of Google cache. I can only hope that whatever was lost (perhaps irreperably) wasn't too important.

I don't think I'm ever going to understand this thing about shaving. Not guys shaving; that's their thing, I don't have anything to do with that. But girls shaving their legs? I don't get it. Granted, this is probably because, uh, I don't shave my legs. I don't need to; I'm one of those hairless Asian chicks. People who look at my legs accuse me of shaving secretly at 3 AM, but I've never owned a razor in my entire life.

Maybe if I had hairy legs I'd understand why girls feel this compulsion to shave. When I ask, the reasons seem to fall somewhere in between "guys like smooth legs" and "it's ugly." So, do girls pressure guys to shave their legs? If body hair is ugly, why do some girls like guys with hairy chests? Why don't girls shave their arms? I mean, yeah, shaving the 'pits makes sense; it's more hygenic and smells better. There's an obvious reason for that. But where did we get this weird, weird idea about shaving our legs?

Winamp just pulled "Bang the Drum Slowly." I can't think anymore.

[Edit: I would also like to recommend the lotion "Curel." Such a wonderful, soothing lotion.]

Took my Logic midterm today. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it'd be--that is to say, I thought I was going to completely bomb it, but now I think I did rather well. I wasn't able to finish one of the problems, but even so, I think I'll pass.

Neil Gaiman is a very funny man.

Y-con is this weekend. I should probably start planning what the hell I'm going to do there. Besides shop, that is.
