Wednesday, January 22, 2003 [link] 02:44 p.m. listening to: nothing Woke up this morning feeling dizzy and nauseous. Almost decided not to go to school, then remembered that today was Session 1 of the Government Golden State exam. Dragged myself to school, begged out of marching, survived band, and then took the Golden State exam. It was easy. Then I sat through a nothing period of AP Lit (well, that's every day, pretty much), and then called home. Accidentally left the display board I rented from Ms. Monahan at school and had to return for it sixth period, after a short nap. I've felt cold all day. This is a big thing for me. I almost never feel cold, and I adjust well to cold weather. But today I was cold. And when I got home and took a nap, huddled under three blankets, I was still cold. I'm actually wearing a sweater right now. I never wear sweaters. But I'm cold. Dad thinks I might have a fever. Tuesday, January 21, 2003 [link] 09:03 p.m. listening to: "The Luckiest" - Ben Folds Hikaru no Go has succeeded in making me cry. That is all. Tuesday, January 21, 2003 [link] 03:00 p.m. listening to: big honkin' playlist My headphones aren't completely dead, but they're getting there. The left earpiece has almost completely gone out; it works only if I move the cord a certain way. >_< Dammit. My birthday's two months away; maybe I can ask for a new pair of headphones then. I really, really can't survive without music in the background, and I don't want to listen to music through my speakers because a) this house is also an office and b) my speakers suck beyond belief. I've become very enamored with Livejournal. Comments feature, friends list, userpics, and an update tool so that I don't have to log into the website to blog. I'm contemplating just moving my blog over there entirely and using it as a journal and a writing depository. But at the same time, I've become very comfortable with pitas and all my links are here, so I don't want to move. ^^;; Oh well. I'll just use both and see how it works out. Monday, January 20, 2003 [link] 03:06 p.m. listening to: "Hotel California" - The Eagles Whitney has given my Wolf's Rain. I am so not worthy. Sunday, January 19, 2003 [link] 07:12 p.m. listening to: big honkin' playlist I just took all the livejournals off the list to the right, since they're all on my LJ friends list anyway. Just so you know. I also added a link to my livejournal to the upper right, in case you missed it. It's more for me, since I want to have easy access to my lj. ^^;; Sunday, January 19, 2003 [link] 05:46 p.m. listening to: big honkin' playlist Gamers of the world, assist me! . . . okay, at least the four of you who're reading this blog, assist me. Siean and I have a problem. At first, it was only my problem, but now it's Siean's problem, too. ^^;; That is, the counter at the Thunder Plains is stuck. You know, the book that tells you how many times you've dodged lightning? Mine's stuck at 17. His is stuck at 19. I thought that maybe mine stuck because, uh, I went and saved in the middle. And I heard that you can't save or something while you're dodging lightning, or the counter resets. But the counter didn't reset, it just. . . stuck. Not even the "successfully dodged" counter (significantly higher than the consecutive dodges) moves. Siean helped me do the chocobo race to get Tidus's celestial weapon, so I decided to help him out dodging lightning, since I was more experienced. I dodged lightning for maybe half an hour to forty-five minutes while Siean counted, and then Siean suggested that we go back and check the book. So I went back to the inn, dodging lightning on the way, and checked the book. It said 19. By Siean's count, I'd dodged at least fifty. Apparently, Linda has the same problem, only she's stuck at sixty-something. ^^;;; Can someone explain this to me? Is this a glitch? Do I actually have to dodge 255 lightning bolts in a row without being hit once in between? Or do I need to hurl my copy of Final Fantasy X against the wall? Saturday, January 18, 2003 [link] 01:19 p.m. listening to: big honkin' playlist Oh God I want to see Wolf's Rain so bad. It's a show about wolves. It's animated by Bones, the same people who did Cowboy Bebop. The music is composed by Yoko Kanno and performed by Seatbelts. Oh my God. I want to see this series so bad it hurts. Saturday, January 18, 2003 [link] 11:34 a.m. listening to: "Nuits de Reve" - Moxy Fruvous I have finally succumbed. I got a livejournal. I think I'll use it mostly for tossing up writing. And comments, of course, though it'll take me a while to get used to not posting anonymously. ^^;; **tinkers some more with her lj** Saturday, January 18, 2003 [link] 10:24 a.m. listening to: big honkin' playlist My dad had to let the assistant/secretary go because we don't have the money to pay her anymore. This is really starting to suck. And now, random anime babble. Watched the first three episodes of Soul Taker. Wow, that was a complete waste of money. It's one of those series that has the potential to be really cool, but instead just ends up being really lame. Especially since the subtitles don't spell "lightning" right until the third episode, but I guess that can be forgiveable. Anyway, well, the series tries to be all avant-garde and stuff à la Lain and FLCL by dropping you in and having wacky stuff happen with no warning whatsoever, but it fails miserably. Why? Well, no character development, for one. No explanation of who the bad guys are and why they're after Flickers. For that matter, no explanation of what Flickers are. Really lame "LIGHTNING BREAKER!!!" attack. Yeah. Also watched three episodes of Boogiepop Phantom. Now, that's a series that attempts to be all avant-garde and stuff and actually succeeds. Each episode has its own little "moral," if you squint and look really hard. Boogiepop kicks ass, and she hasn't even done anything yet, really. Each episode is about something and someone different. The series is not afraid to be gory. Fortunately, I have the second DVD as well, so I don't have to twitch and gibber and moan for more. Friday, January 17, 2003 [link] 02:06 p.m. listening to: big honkin' playlist Four day weekend! So happy. So, so happy. Sure, I'll spend the entire time doing my various and sundry Government projects, but at least I can sleep in. So naturally, instead of getting up early to be productive, I got up early and watched KareKano. I love that show. I think I may actually want to own it, seeing as how I can watch it multiple times and never get sick of it. Episode four has the ability to turn me into a little puddle every time. I'm such a girl. Don't tell anyone. In other news, my English teacher apparently has not sent in the recommendations she says she sent out before Winter Break, and my father is doing the great Financial Aid Dance. I'm glad he's the one doing the research and filling out the forms this time, because damn am I sick of college applications. JUST GIVE ME MONEY, DAMMIT. Thursday, January 16, 2003 [link] 09:56 p.m. listening to: big honkin' playlist Oh Christ, Neil Gaiman has linked Bite Me. Their server is going to sink under the load. Today is Nostalgia Day, apparently. Kaie posted the Freshman Book of Wisdom on her LJ, which in turn made me think about the bout of nostalgia I underwent during fourth period today. I'm a TA for Mr. Edo. Now, in college, as far as I can tell, TAs actually help teach. In high school, TAs basically run errands for the teachers. The work I do for Mr. Edo ranges from copying music to filling out deposit slips to any number of smaller, more obscure jobs. Today I was supposed to change the ink cartridge in his printer, only I couldn't find where the hell he kept his ink cartridges. I was opening drawers all over the place, and in one of his desk drawers I found some old band photos. The big group shots, with the entire band. They weren't recent ones; the newest one I found in the drawer was 98-99, when I would have been in eighth grade. Before my time. Since I couldn't find the ink cartridge anyway, I ended up poring over the photo, and surprised myself by being able to identify maybe half of the faces. It was so sad and so funny, looking at that photo and thinking, "Hey, it's Kyle! And Nancy! And Dominique! Gosh, Dominique used to have long hair?" And then I saw Daniel Green, and somehow bits of freshman year started coming back, and God I wish I'd had a blog freshman year so that I could recapture some of those moments. I remember when he dragged us all into the gym one night, after a particularly bad show, and kicked out all the adults so that it was just us students. And he was--I don't know, honest. He was that kind of guy. Just brutally honest. I mean, yeah, he was foul-mouthed and hyper and a general freak, but I think he was someone who really had integrity, but knew how to keep it real at the same time. I wrote an essay about it freshman year, but I think I lost it long ago. I don't even remember what he said that night, but it was something that changed my outlook on band for the rest of my high school years. I wonder where he is now? Wednesday, January 15, 2003 [link] 06:11 p.m. listening to: "French Perfume" - Great Big Sea Has anyone seen Amber? She seems to have gone missing. Wednesday, January 15, 2003 [link] 04:43 p.m. listening to: "Star No Star" - Jack Off Jill I believe I may have ranted about this before, but if I didn't, well, someone did it for me. Amen. Granted, I think there are some kids that need strict parents. I think some kids are just naturally inclined to be wild. But that notwithstanding, incredibly strict parenting is inclined to do more harm than good. My own father has always been remarkably permissive, and I think I've turned out just dandy. At least, I'm not doing drugs, drinking heavily, or fucking anything with an orifice. And neither are any of my friends who were raised in a similar manner. There is, in particular, one comment from username Issendai that really struck home for me. I hope she doesn't mind my copying/pasting part of it here. ^^;; "And isn't it ironic that the kid's friends see what's going on long before even the most sympathetic adults? When I was in middle school, I could have pointed out all the abused kids in our class and said exactly what was going on at home--not because they told me, but because I knew all the signs. Telling adults wouldn't have helped, though, because adults don't believe children. Maybe there's a lesson there for the future." Tuesday, January 14, 2003 [link] 05:24 p.m. listening to: big honkin' playlist My head's still hurting on and off. Tylenol doesn't really do anything for it. It kind of takes the edge off the pain for the four hours or whatever it's in effect, and then it comes back hammering at my skull loudly, in case I missed it. Today I had an earache, which is, um, bad. I don't normally get earaches, and I've never had an ear infection. When I do get an earache, it's usually a good indication that I'm coming down with something. Coupled with the headaches, it's probably going to be something bad. Argh. I cannot get sick two weeks before finals! In other news, last night was probably one of the worst nights of my life. I woke up sometime around 3:30 AM thinking, for some reason, that I had to get up. I staggered to my alarm clock and stood there for several moments punching buttons, trying to figure out what I was supposed to be doing, until I realized that it was 3:30 AM and no, I didn't have to be up right now. So I turned the alarm back on and went back to bed. I didn't sleep very soundly, though, because I kept waking up periodically thinking I had to get up, and then another part of my brain would hiss, what are you, crazy? The alarm clock hasn't gone off yet! Go back to sleep! So, uh, yeah. Shits and giggles all around. Monday, January 13, 2003 [link] 11:13 p.m. listening to: "Straight No Chaser" - Bush I feel this need to explain why I've been so boring lately. Well, I've always been boring, but now I'm more boring than usual. ^^;; This is partially because as the end of the semester nears, I've been really busy. The other reason is because Dagger and I have been cowriting a book. I didn't talk about this earlier because, uh, I'm not going to be able to post any of the book online and it was just so tentative. But now that we actually have a rough series of events worked out, I figured I might as well explain why I fall off the face of the earth every so often. If you're really interested, you can read some of the ideas we're bandying about at The Book. I doubt any actual novel excerpts will be going up there because "previously published" also means putting it up online, but you can read some of the background and such that we're coming up with as we go. Monday, January 13, 2003 [link] 03:38 p.m. listening to: nothing I think it's an indication of how incredibly pathetic and boring my life is that I couldn't find anything worth blogging about over the weekend. And also, I'm really sleepy and my head's been hurting on and off since Thursday. It's really disturbing. My cousin rented Metal Gear Solid 2. He is quite possibly one of the worst spies in the world, he gets caught so much. But he doesn't die, which makes him quite a bit better than me. ^^;; I died in the first twenty seconds of the first game, and that was just the demo. The most amusing part of the game was probably when Raiden took his mask off. Siean was horrified. I laughed. "He's a pretty-boy!" I exclaimed. Siean screamed and spent the next half-hour of the game moaning that he wanted Snake back. Heh heh. Friday, January 10, 2003 [link] 03:00 p.m. listening to: "Stones" - Ultima THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY. This week went by very fast, but it was long and exhausting nonetheless. >_< I'm ready for another vacation now. |
