Tuesday, August 20, 2002 [link] 04:24 p.m. listening to: "Down From Above" - Moxy Fruvous Good day today. Band Camp was very relaxed, mostly because it kept drizzling on and off (rain in Southern California in summer? impossible!) all morning and because it was Registration. We stayed inside and played for the first hour. Then when it stopped drizzling we went outside to run drill. But since James was gone and Mr. Edo had to oversee pit auditions, Eddie got to run drill. Eddie, unfortunately, has never run drill in his life. So it was a very low-key rehearsal. We ran drill for maybe two hours, then broke into sectionals. Rachel was gone today, so I mostly helped Samantha look after the altos. Rachel showed up for registration. We went out to lunch together, then she went home. Poor girl was sick. I was supposed to look after the altos after lunch because Samantha needed to register, but I wasn't able to because two of the pit members that didn't make it in wanted to switch to mellophone. ^^;; So I hurriedly put Sherry (sophomore; transferred from Arcadia High School--short attention span but knows what she's doing) in charge and ran off to teach the girls how to play mellophone. There was some conflict. A little while later, Sherry came to me, obviously upset, and said that Sheryl (senior, fun-loving, just showed up today) had told her that she shouldn't be running a sectional because she's an underclassman. Then Kelvin (sophomore, flute player) came and said the same thing--if there's a senior in the section, the senior should always be in charge. Okay, so some of it's my fault because I ran off and left the altos to fend for themselves. >_< I probably should have been thinking more clearly. But Jesus frickin' Christ, it's not like I left a freshman in charge of the sectional. Sherry's a sophomore, she's from Arcadia High, They of the 300 Member Band. She's been here since the beginning, she's demonstrated that she knows what she's doing. I don't know if Sheryl even knows how to conduct--well, actually, she probably does, because she went out for drum major once. Bad me. Although actually, Sheryl was very reasonable about it. She said she wasn't comfortable having an underclassman telling her what to do, etc. etc. I was a little pissed at Kelvin. The altos aren't even his section. What the hell was he doing over there anyway? And the fact is, there are more new members than old members. The old members can't be everywhere, and at some point or another underclassmen are going to have to take charge, especially when old members aren't or are unable to do their jobs. There's a freshman in every section in Wind Ensemble. I meant to talk to Edo about it later, but I was caught up in the Mad Mellophone Rush, so I forgot. I'll talk to him about it tomorrow. Monday, August 19, 2002 [link] 08:12 p.m. listening to: "Eyes on Me" - Faye Wong Tired. Filling out emergency cards for registration tomorrow. Picked up my history textbook from Kevin's house so that I don't have to pay a fifty-six dollar fine. All is well. Need to start college research soon. Need to ask Dad to take me to visit some campuses. Maybe after he gets better. He's sick again. Until then, fastweb fastweb fastweb. So much to do, so little time. I should have done this all a long time ago. Thank you to all the people who sent me email about AP Biology. I'm happy that you care. ^_^ Hopefully I'll be able to make a more informed decision now. Sunday, August 18, 2002 [link] 07:00 p.m. listening to: nothing I just watched the ending to FFX. I would say more, but I need to finish crying first. Sunday, August 18, 2002 [link] 04:38 p.m. listening to: "Songs in Red and Gray" - Suzanne Vega Why yes, I have been infected with Suzanne Vega. I have my burner back now. Unfortunately, the motherboard only has enough slots for me to have two CD drives, so the CD-ROM is currently sitting on my shelf. I'm still deciding whether or not to ditch the DVD-ROM. It's convenient when I want to watch anime but my father's watching TV or napping in the living room. But it's deplorable at reading CDs, IMHO. Slow. If I ditch the DVD-ROM, I can sell it; I know plenty of people who'll want to buy it. But who wants to buy a 50x CD-ROM drive? Well, besides Becca, who builds computers and might want a spare CD-ROM drive. But the decision has yet to be made. I have some speakers and stuff I want to sell off, though. Keep an eye here for prices, if you're interested. Saturday, August 17, 2002 [link] 09:32 p.m. listening to: nothing And now, some things I should have linked a long, long time ago. True Porn Clerk Stories: The true stories of a woman working in a store that carries porn videos. This has made its way around the Internet by now; I read it, but I'm late in linking it. Gallant is aroused; Goofus is horny: The title is probably self-explanatory. Yes, it is explicit. And. . . uh. . . that's it for now, really. Saturday, August 17, 2002 [link] 05:33 p.m. listening to: "The Queen and the Soldier" - Suzanne Vega **screams in frustration** If anyone has or can find some pictures of Shiyuu Kusanagi that they can spare, I'd greatly appreciate it. Screencaps are good, but I particularly want a scan of either The Star (which Kusanagi is featured on) and the back of tankouban 17, with all the birds. High-quality is preferable, but I can make do with low-quality. God, this is driving me insane. Saturday, August 17, 2002 [link] 04:28 p.m. listening to: "The Queen and the Soldier" - Suzanne Vega My God. I have an idea for a Kusanagi collage. A Kusanagi collage. Yeah, that guy from X that everyone always forgets about. I wonder if I'll be able to find pictures? This song kicks major ass, by the way. Friday, August 16, 2002 [link] 11:17 p.m. listening to: "I'm Too Sexy" - Right Said Fred I have no excuse for this whatsoever. Collage: link Song: "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred Character: Kero-chan from Card Captor Sakura This collage is not a good collage. It does not even make any pretense of being a good collage. It has some pretty obvious flaws and is, in fact, utter crap. But boy did I have fun. I go thud now. Friday, August 16, 2002 [link] 07:32 p.m. listening to: "Penitent" - Suzanne Vega Watched the first three episodes of .hack//sign today. It was very, very good. While I am not precisely foaming at the mouth and throwing myself at the door to get more, I am definitely desperately eager to get my ass over to Orbit tomorrow and see if they have more episodes. They probably don't; I didn't see any besides the one DVD when I was there. That'll learn me to rent stuff that hasn't been fully translated. Now gather 'round, boys and girls, cos Kitsy's got a story for you. One day, not too long ago, a young man named Siean (who happens to be my cousin) went to the post office. After he had finished his errands, he left the parking lot and got into line to turn at the intersection. Sandwiched between two cars as he was, he was unable to move out of the way as a woman began to back her car out of the parking lot. So he hit the horn. HOOOOOOOOOOONK! HOOOOOOOOOOOONK HOOOOOOOOOOONK! Everyone at the post office looked at him. Everyone in the parking lot looked at him. Everyone in the street looked at him. The woman hit his car and put a nice dent in it. Obviously, she was very sorry, apologized, and offered to pay for damages to the car. The damage, incidentally, was not so bad. I've seen it; it's a small dent and doesn't really impair the car in any way. Siean asked for two hundred dollars. The next day, he showed up at my house with a brand new Playstation 2. True story! Friday, August 16, 2002 [link] 03:29 p.m. listening to: big honkin' playlist Stupid me forgot to add a link to the collage earlier. I edited the post; there's a link now. I should probably add thumbnails and whatnot to my website. I social blog now. Amea: That's so. Cool. I wish I'd get cool stuff for my birthdays. Eggie: Well, I'm not informed of the whole situation. How do you know he didn't fail them on purpose because he's an asshole? Kelsey: Noooo! Resist, you must resist! But. Uh. I know the OAV is available on DVD with Chinglish subtitles, but I wouldn't recommend it because I hear it sucks. That wouldn't surprise me, considering the OAV is trying to condense twenty-some manga into what, two hours? The manga, however, is probably well worth reading, if you can find translations somewhere. And, uh, the manga itself. Rachel: I'll hug you today. W2: I bet you say that to everyone. ^_~ But thank you, and I will remember your words of wisdom. I need to collage less--even though people seem to like them (thank you)--and write more. Actually, I just need to edit some of my writing so I can put it up on my site. Siean has finished more or less all the sidequests involving the Celestial Weapons except for Wakka and Lulu. I think he's going to defeat the final boss soon. Damn him. He started the game two weeks ago. Or was it three weeks? Damn him, anyway. I need to get off my ass, get the Celestial Weapons, and finish the damn game. Friday, August 16, 2002 [link] 02:44 p.m. listening to: "When You Come Back Down" - Nickel Creek My father's back! Yaaaaay. It sounds like he had a good time in China. And now, another collage: When You Come Back Down. This one was made by request of Rachel, whom I infected with Hikaru no Go. She loves Sai, so she requested a Sai and Hikaru collage. I've been wanting to do a Hikaru no Go collage for a while now, but since I'm a raging Touya Akira fangirl, it didn't really occur to me that hey, Sai and Hikaru would be a really easy collage to do. And indeed this was a very easy collage. I had fun. Lyrics are from "When You Come Back Down" by Nickel Creek. Thursday, August 15, 2002 [link] 06:37 p.m. listening to: "Bodies" - Drowning Pool I can't seem to stop listening to this song. It's hideously addictive. My dad's coming home tomorrow. I may skip yet another day of Band Camp to go to the airport and meet him. ^^;; I really hate to miss, but--my dad! Yay! And next week I'll definitely go for all days, because there are no more AP Bio meetings. Or so Dr. Jang says. Dropping AP Biology looks more and more likely. I got a 35% on the diagnostic test today, and that's not even the real score. Adjusted for the problems I got wrong (each incorrect answer takes one-fourth of a point off your score), I actually got something around a 22%. This is. . . not good. I'm confident that if I studied and worked hard I would do well in the class, but I don't know if I'll be able to do that and keep up in AP Government and AP Literature as well. I'm not worried at all about AP Lit, but I know AP Govt. is a "heavy" class that requires a lot of time and effort. Then there's marching band, which has weekly after school practices and Thursday football games and whatnot. What I'd really like to do is still somehow learn what the AP Bio kids are learning but not have the stress of getting a grade or having to take the test. I really want to learn from Dr. Jang; that's really the bottom line of it. I really enjoyed having him as my teacher for Honors Biology; he's a good teacher and he makes learning science really fun. And he teaches practical science--how science applies to your everyday life. I really like that. Cellular/molecular Biology really bores the hell out of me. It's interesting to an extent, but I like learning about plants and animals and ecology more than How Cells Work. Unfortunately, the state standards--and the AP test--really stress cellular/molecular Biology. >_< I still have to make up the quiz I missed on Tuesday. I guess I'll make it up and see how I do on it. I have a feeling I'll do badly on that quiz, too. And if I do, well, I'll just drop the class, but see if I can still get materials from Dr. Jang. I don't want to miss out on the fun. I hear that random people are still reading my blog, including people that--to my knowledge--have no interest in anime whatsoever. This puzzles me greatly. And makes me want to blog less about my fangirlishness and more about my life. But, uh, that would be bad. I don't want to start blogging for an audience. I have watched some of the Hikaru no Go anime. It's really inferior to the manga in every respect, although it's not bad by any means. It has a nice soundtrack, although I find the music overwhelming at times ("Like. . . whoa, that enough drama for you?"). I'm especially disappointed by how much less of a dork Sai is in the anime than the manga. We need more dork Sai! Chibi Sai! Sai making funny faces! Eeee! Touya Akira also doesn't look as intense in the anime. I think there's something about trading black and white for color--you give, you take, right? But it is nice to see the show animated. While I don't think the anime has the richness of the manga, it's fun to see them walking around and talking and playing Go. Does anyone have any collage ideas they want to see made? I'm not exactly running out of ideas, but they're not coming at the rate I want them to. ^_^;; I end up staring blankly at Photoshop a lot these days. I'd prefer that you give me lyrics and some images, but I can also work with just a song call and a general idea of what you want. It's better if it's a series I'm familiar with, but I can try to do a series I know nothing about. I've never tried it before, but heck, there's a first time for everything. So if you have some work for me, drop me a line. |
