listening to: "Hotel California" - The Eagles

The parade today went great. Well, apparently our performance was below average, but despite that, we somehow won sweepstakes. Either everyone else sucked worse than we did, or we sucked with style. And miraculously, I was not on the verge of passing out at the end of the parade! My feet are pretty well blistered, though, because my marching shoes don't fit.

Then I came home, showered, and sat down at the computer and read about the Columbia. I really have nothing to say other than what everyone else has already said.

Happy new year, folks.

Went out to dinner with my dad today. He had to deal with some last minute things, so I stood outside in the driveway staring at the stars. Some people are able to lie outside on the lawn, or on the roof, and name the constellations. I can't do such a thing; the lights from the city are far too bright. It was a clear night, and you could see more stars than usual. I was able to spot Orion's belt (or, at least, I think it was Orion's belt, three stars in a row), and I pointed it out to Pan, the secretary, as she left. "Oh!" she exclaimed, when she saw it, and I wondered how many times she had ever bothered to look at the sky.

Finals are ooooover! I have a good, solid B in Biology. Yay. It'd be nice if it were an A, but, well, I don't ask for miracles. ^^;;

The mock AP Lit test was one of the hardest things I ever took in my life. It reminded me of the SAT II Lit test, but harder. It doesn't help that they seem to go out of their way to pick the most boring reading passages possible. The only things I really enjoyed reading were the poems, one by Christina Georgina Rossetti and another by. . . someone I don't remember. I really like Rosetti's poetry. She has a way of writing about death that makes it seem very beautiful and transcendent.

A Google search reveals that we read Passing Away, Said the World. Another one of my favorites would be Song. And while we're on the subject of poems about death, my favorite has always been this one. I've seen it credited to many people, from Melinda Sue Pacho (which is what the website I just linked to will tell you) to Mary E. Frye. If anyone knows the original author, do tell me.

On another note, I got my hair cut today. As a result, the back of my neck itches vaguely. While she was cutting my hair, the hairdresser remarked that it was a good thing I was getting my hair cut today. I asked why, and she said that you're not supposed to get your hair cut on new year's. She seemed surprised that I didn't know. Didn't my mother tell me? No, I said. My mother never told me. The hairdresser shrugged and said, ah well, maybe she's gone American.

Why do I keep watching Weiß Gluhen? It's stupid. I want to smack Sena. Now I want to smack Kyou, too. Amazingly, the only one I don't want to smack is Aya, and out of the original four Weiß members, he's the one I always wanted to smack the most. If I were him, I'd be swearing up a storm at why I had to get stuck with two incompetent rookies. Oh, and Rex is useless, too. Wah. Give me Youji and Ken and Omi. Well, more of Omi.

I just ate a piece of green pepper, and now the back of my throat burns. Gah.

Finals aren't over yet, but I've basically got all my tests out of the way. All I have tomorrow is a mock AP test in AP Lit. Huzzah.

I have an A in AP Government! No idea what I'm going to end up with in AP Biology, but YAAAAY A IN AP GOVT. **cries in happiness** I'm not a complete dumbass! But I better not have dropped down to a C in AP Bio. I'm not sure how I did on the final. If I get dropped down to a C in AP Bio, I'll bawl like a little girl. A little girl.

Things look bad for the AP Club. Mrs. Heinrich doesn't like the idea at all, and worse yet, she's been CCing her emails to me to Mr. Crist as well. Argh. I wish she hadn't done that. So tired. I want to give up, but I can't. Someone has to help me carry the torch.

Mmmm, longan.

[Edit: I imagine my AP Bio book would have a factoid or two on melanin, Walker, but nothing that you'd be able to write a seven page paper on. It's a general Biology textbook.]

listening to: "Shades of Gray" - Cry Cry Cry

Got home at twelve-fifteen today. Ate lunch with Rebecca, relaxed for a bit, and then studied for Biology until three-thirty with Rebecca and Jean. After they left, I took a nap because I had a raging headache, and when I got up I relaxed until Rachel got here. We just spent the last two hours studying for Government. I actually feel relatively confident now. I may not be violently sodomized by my finals.

listening to: "Alegria" - Cirque du Soleil

I will warn you now. This entry will be funny only if you're a history geek or someone who has been through or is taking AP US History. It may quite possibly be offensive.

I just got myself out of a hellish chat where I was helping my old APUSH teacher answer a bazillion questions from her kids (finals and all). There were several amusing moments, and several moments that reminded me forcefully of other amusing moments. One such amusing moment was where one student asked, "What did Garfield do that was significant?" and my teacher responded, "He was assassinated."

And now, amusing things that have nothing whatsoever to do with that chat, but do have something to do with AP US History. The first one is something that Kaie posted on her blog a while ago. It is, I believe, the Cliffnotes version of the Hamilton and Jefferson conflicts.

Hamilton: Dum de dum dum. . . BANK.
Jefferson: UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
Hamilton: Dum de dum dum. . . BANK.
Jefferson: UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
Hamilton: Dum de dum dum. . . ALIEN AND SEDITION ACTS.
Jefferson: REALLY FUCKING UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

The other is something that Kaie and I kind of came up with together, and that was Founding Fathers slash. ^^;; It helps, I swear it does. You see, one day we were talking about how there seems to be all this really wrong slash floating around, such as Bible slash. And Kaie asked, "Is there Founding Fathers slash?" and I said that I hadn't seen any. We thought it was funny that there wasn't, since they're infinitely slashable. Jefferson is so bottom. I mean, he was all about agriculture! Hamilton would so top, since he was aggressive and Federalist. And there would be a love triangle involving Jefferson, Hamilton, and Washington, but Washington likes Hamilton better, so Jefferson gets to pine and sulk.

Yes, yes, I know. I'm going to hell.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRGH.

This message brought to you by Kit trying to memorize the march at the last minute for her band final tomorrow.

And now, to borrow a phrase from the illustrious Eggie, there will be GREAT ACADEMIC SODOMY, for finals start tomorrow. Arrrrrrgh. **sob**

Hahaha! I have addicted Rachel to Cirque du Soleil!

I found this really neat artcle while doing my Government homework. It's an oldie, but still a goodie, at least in my opinion.

Kelsey: If the draft were reinstated, minus its protective clauses, I'd lose two of my cousins, Kelvin and Siean. Actually, I'm not sure on either count, because Kelvin may be too old and I'm not sure if Siean is a citizen. I'd lose a lot of my high school buddies/acquaintances, which I think would be tragic. There's just something distinctly not right about James Hollis marching off to war with a gun in his hand. Or Brenden. Auuugh.

School was mindless today, as usual. We finished our presentations in Government, Mr. Hammett passed out our grades, and then we started reviewing for the final. I found a mistake in my grades that raised me up almost to an A. But he hasn't graded the scavenger hunt or the final project yet, so I'm sure that by the end I'll have an A. XD Happy!!!

Took the Bio makeup today; I'm not at all sure whether I passed, so I guess I'd better study, just in case. ^^;;; Everyone's assuring me that I did pass, which doesn't help.

Nothing more to add. My life is boring as always. But I do want to plug Cirque du Soleil again. It rocketh.
