a Changeling's Diary, featuring yummy Marron-chan

Thanks for the good 'no-ice' vibes, Thorne, very much appreciated. I'm safer from unintentional skating than my roomie, because of new winter boots. Actually, they're almost SquareSoft-character-class boots (ie, friggin' huge clodhopper things with massive tread), which thought frequently amuses me while putting them on. Eat your heart out, Tidus -- my boots are bigger. X D

Okay, okay, so they're still not bigger than Sora's clown shoes in KH.

You have just gifted me with an extremely disturbing mental image. Utena with a clouded look ==> Utena with a Clouded look ==> Utena dressed in a SOLDIER uniform, carrying the Buster Sword instead of the Sword of Dios, and looking surlier than heck. O,o` Kowai.... "No, Akio, you don't want to mess with her today. Trust me."

And on that note... "Laaaaa!"....

I should be on my way to work right now.

However, after running errands all over town yesterday, I gave roomie Nan my keys to unlock the house. We were out long enough that it got dark before we got home, and she slipped on a patch of ice in the driveway (scaring the beans outta both of us but luckily not hurting herself). Somehow, in the course of all that confusion, she probably stuck my keys in her coat pocket. (And yes, silly me, I keep my car and house keys on the same ring.)

Unfortunately, she appears to have taken off for her dentist's appointment this morning with them still *in* her coat pocket... can't find 'em anywhere around the house. >_< Which leaves me stranded and my employers short-handed at the store.

...KYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!
Sorry 'bout that, had to get it out of my system. It's one of those days.

Seen in the Dairy Department:

Okay, now here's one I never want to see in my refrigerator at home: "Plugra" brand butter.

What is this, ShinRa's ruder competitor, or something? And on a food product, no less.
...on butter
...
...
...
okay, brain on overload now. Can't think about this any more. Need sleep.

As I was getting dressed for work this morning...

Figments: "Hm - black jeans, hiking boots, long-sleeved black Gundam Wing tee shirt, and a black and white flannel shirt. Now, exactly what kind of *look* would you call this? ...'Redneck Otaku Goth'?!"

Me: "I call it *warm*. Now shut up before I put you all through an angst-cuisinart."

The only problem is, even that never shuts 'em up for long.

There's too much salt on Pennsylvania's roads. Driving in to work this morning, I couldn't get a mile without having to use the washer fluid -- otherwise the whole windshield would cake over with solid white crud from all the road salt. Ick. I am soooo ready for spring.

Oh, and for your information, I found out why I haven't been able to upload files to the new website -- My new hosting service hasn't bothered to register the domain yet! Every registry search engine I've checked with (including their own) lists "my" domain as still being available. So inquiries to the tech support people were definitely in order. >,<

Ah, there's nothing quite like getting a buzz off one's Prismacolor markers before noon. @,@ oroooo....

Err, sorry for inflicting such a mental image, Thorne. Hopefully the wargs won't wank the warkers. >_< (The Japanese sound for chocobos was always "kweh" or "kwee"... don't know why they had to change it over here. But the sound you'd get during the FF7 chocobo races -- when one bird got too close to another's tailfeathers -- now THAT was a "Wark!")

So after showing my roomie some back-entries in a few of the weblogs I read, we realized something about two of the words you liked repeating...
...if you cross "warg" and "wank", you get "Wark!"

Wark Wark Wark!

Chocobos rule.

I have a confession to make. As much as I adore everybody's favorite psycho, Sephiroth (what can I say, I'm a fool for deranged, white-haired Squaresoft characters) -- I despise his theme song, One-Winged Angel.

The first time Nan played through the game and got to that final boss fight, I lost it. I rolled my eyes, I sniggered. I asked out loud, "What kind of goober villain needs a flamin' 'ego choir' singing in the background while he's fighting?" I firmly believe that if the man hadn't been bugnuts insane at the time, *he* would have been rolling his eyes in disgust at the concept.

The second time through, I was prepared. I had thought of a phrase with the perfect meter to fill in those gaps... so every time the choir piped up with Sephiroth's name, I gleefully drowned them out with "Cheesy Poofs!"

[...ducks the outraged Sephy fans and runs like hell...]

You need {{{hugs}}}. I'm so sorry to hear about your computer and files, and glad you found at least some backups on the family PC. Losing your stories is *definitely* a big thing, because you write wonderfully well! Really... who else could have made me sit through a Gollum x Dobby 'fic?

(...and there will be absolutely nothing smug or condescending about backing up files, since I never remember to do so myself until something goes wrong with the machine and sends me into a screaming panic. >_< )

Random thoughts from the insane and tired:

North Korea's nuclear missile line is known as the "Taepo Dong".
...
...
...well, *I* wouldn't trust anyone with a radioactive Dong, would you?!

"A box full of negative goodness" sounds like it should be an oxymoron -- but since my boss was referring to photo negatives, I guess that ain't necessarily so.

Squaresoft, Doctor's Appointments, and lack of will-power...

...are a dangerous combination. Between watching Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy: Unlimited, I don't think I've gotten to bed before 1:30 AM more than one night all week. And the past 8 days have been "Doctor's appointment bonanza", mostly due to roomie's minor surgery and follow-ups, all in the relatively early AM, and to which she couldn't drive herself.

So here I sit, tired and cranky and headache-y. And on the way to this morning's appointment to have stitches removed, I had this sudden revelation:

For my next car, I want a hearse. Have you ever noticed, nobody seems to want to argue right-of-way with a hearse? ^_^;;

Now Playing: Outlaw Star OST 1

Had our first official Art Afternoon, and it was more or less a success. I was making great progress on my picture until I reached for my Crimson Red marker, and it said "*gasp* *wheeze* Gimme a break, lady, I'm 10 years old, do you know what that IS in marker years?!" and expired of severe dehydration.

So it looks like I'll be making an emergency run to the craft store for a replacement, while roomie Nan continues to tear along on the gorgeous, detailed picture she's almost finished in the time it took me to transfer my sketch onto good paper. *sigh* I have inking envy....

Now Playing: Gatchaman '94 OAV soundtrack

Oi, you two are getting all serious on me here... but it's a topic we probably should all give consdieration to even if it does strain our brains. I have to agree that too many people tend to have knee-jerk opinions on the topic of the death penalty without ever thinking through all the ramifications. On a personal basis, I've never been quite sure how to feel about it.

...beyond that, I should shut up and avoid sounding like an over-the-hill Pollyanna. >_<

On a rather less serious front, roomie Nan and I have made a kind of belated New Year's resolution: we're setting aside a 4-hour block of time every week, to be dedicated to the production of art. Theoretically, this should result in much more frequent updates on my website. ^_^

Now Playing: Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete OST

They faked me out! >,<

I thought this morning would be the end of the whole study, but noooooooo. While I *am* finished with the little electronic nag (for which I am eternally grateful), I still have to do two weeks of 'weaning off' the evil little red things before they let me go completely. And, incidentally, tell me whether the ELRTs were loaded or 'shooting blanks', as 'twere.

In a way, I can understand why; if the research staff isn't supposed to know which test subjects are getting an active drug and which are getting placebos, then we all have to treated exactly the same regardless. So, I have to go back in two weeks, after taking decreasing doses over that time. But still...is "placebo withdrawal" really a big concern, here?

Blind, stupid luck sometimes counts for more than skill when gaming. Was watching roomie Nan play KH again after dinner; she was beating her head against the barrel trials in the Coliseum. After several runs through the second trial, she had run out of magic points, was sufficiently frustrated to be cussing quite creatively, and accidentally hit the button to try again without meaning to.

So of course, on that run through when she was sure everything was doomed from the start, *every single barrel* went exactly where it ought -- and a couple went places we hadn't known they WOULD (not like that, you pervoids) -- and she destroyed all of them with 21+ seconds left out of the 60 she'd been given. Her eyes just about bugged out of her head. Seriously. I could hear the "dah-OOOOOgah!" sound effect.

What was that line about feeling all kinds of mighty? ^_^ ...at least once the shock wore off.

I dunno, Thorne, is KH a 'shroom induced dream, or a Mako-poisoning induced nightmare? (...as you can see, I'm still not over that nasty Lance Bass shock...)

In the OST Disc 2 Track 11, 'The Deep End' has definite overtones of the good old "Nibelheim-is-burning" music from FF7. My roomie hasn't gotten that far in the game yet, but the tune is making me picture Sephy as some kind of Great White Shark-based merman. >_< owowowow, makes my brain hurt (Fortunately for the precarious state of my sanity, I am assured by a co-worker that this does *not* happen.)

Real life news, I'm in my last week of guinea pig duty, thank goodness! Friday is my last appointment for the medical study I've been participating in. After months of appointments and tests and evil little red capsules I'm *almost* positive are placebos, in three days it's all going to be over. [Thank goodness.]

...and if these are not placebos, then I sincerely hope if I ever really need an anti-depressant that they prescribe me something else, 'cause these did nothing for me.

Now Playing: Kingdom Hearts OST, Disc 1

First new layout for 2003; I hope it's readable and my apologies if it's not. I've been beating my head against this for a couple of days now, and it would have had little matching, custom divider lines except that Photoshop arbitrarily refused to save them as transparent .gif files even though it would the day before. *sigh*

And while we're on topics that make me sigh, will someone please explain to my brain why it should never get attached to a white/silver-haired character in a Squaresoft game?! They're always doomed, I tell you -- every time! Sakaguchi-san has some kind of unholy grudge against guys with white hair, because they always go psycho and get messily killed, usually by the game's hero. We went through all this before, brain -- remember Sephiroth? Remember Kuja?!?!!

Brain: "But - but Riku's so cooooool...."

...I've got a bad feeling about this. >,< Part of me hopes that Disney had sufficient influence on the story line that we *might* get a happy ending out of Kingdom Hearts - but I ain't holding my breath.
