Friday, October 22, 1999; 01:14 p.m. The AFU and Urban Legends Archive
In addition to the Skeptics' site and the Urband Legends resource to the left (our first stops for authentication when we get those pesky e-mails) here is another great resource for the ever increasing number of urban legends. For example, next time you get an e-mail about a way to make money by forwarding a message to ten friends....or that by sending this e-mail, Microsoft or DisneyWorld or whoever will donate a dollar to charity.....you can go to one of these sites to find out the scoop. These sites also make for great fun reading. The Urban Legends Reference Center is studying the phenomenon. Now, there's a whole new sub-group of urban legends, namely computer virus hoaxes. If you've heard about a virus and want to know if it's real or not, you can go to:
Computer Virus Myths and check it out for yourself.
