I have some very CRAPPY news (well, for me anyway)! One of my favorite bands, Ultraspank have broken up. For the longest time, I have been visiting their official site to check if they were going on tour or currently on tour. The past 4 months, there had been NOTHING new posted, so I figured that their webmaster was just lazy or slow. So, I decided to find another site centered around this wonderful band. Finally I found a fan site with this statement on the home page: "Ultraspank have been dropped from their label and, as a result, have broken up". This made me pissed! I had never had a chance to see them live. They came to Oregon once.. maybe twice and I missed them. It sucks, one of my all-time favorite bands, and I never got to see them live! Now I know what my cousin Doug feels like as he is pissed over the break up of At the Drive-In. But, I guess these things happen. Sadly, Ultraspank never got as much respect as they deserved. They have truly been one of the greatest rock bands in the past years. Somehow, they were just completely ignored while less talented bands such as Papa Roach and Limp Bizkit quickly rose to immense popularity. I'm assuming the label dropped them because of low album sales as their two albums combined probably doesn't come close to that of Papa Roach's one and only album to date. Also, I have not met ONE person in Salem who likes or has even heard of them. It totally boggles my mind that such an amzazing band has such a small fan base. I, for one, am proud to be a part of that fan base, and wish others who like good rock'n'roll to give Ultraspank a listen... the band truly deserves it!

I've been watching a little MTV lately at the times when they actually PLAY videos and I've seen the new Fatboy Slim video a couple times. It is so simple, but so freakin' awesome! Course, it's directed by the video-directing god, Spike Jonze! Anyway, the whole video is Christopher Walken waltzing around and dancing to the music in this large hotel lobby with NO ONE else around. Towards the end he gets so swept up in the music that he even starts to fly! It's such a cool video and very entertaining. I mean, c'mon, how often do you get to see Christopher Walken doing backflips and cartwheels? (though I doubt it's actually him doing some of the stunts).

Well, the Oscar poll showed that the winner for best picture should have been either Traffic or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (it was a tie). This sufficiently proves that the american public is smarter than the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Science seeing as they chose Gladiator as best picture. Of course, Gladiator was only behind by one point in the poll. So maybe everybody is equally stupid. Anyway, since this poll DOES directly affect the outcome, as I stated before, be on the lookout for the producers of Gladiator to soon give back their awards and hand them over to the people responsible for either Traffic or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (yeah, I wish!).

In the last weeks of May and all the way through June it's just non-stop GOOD DVDs being released to own! May 22 brings the release of both Traffic AND Requiem for a Dream, then the week after that is Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, then the week after that is O Brother, Where Art Thou?, then the week after that is both Unbreakable (2 discs!) and Dogma Special Edition (finally). Suffice to say, I am gonna be flat-ass broke after that point!

Well, it's safe to say that the band has dealt with it... (little inside joke there). The Oscars just got over and they were pretty fair, I'd have to say... of course Gladiator won Best Picture though I DON'T KNOW WHY! (no, I'm not being sarcastic). I like Gladiator, but it shouldn't have won, especially over Traffic! I am VERY pleased, however, that Steven Soderbourgh won. It's safe to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Russell Crowe wouldn't have been my choice for actor, but I'm not mad about it. Julia Roberts I'm fine with as she deserved it though Ellen Burstyn gave a better performance (she already has a couple statues anyway). The screenplays picked were definitely the right choices (Almost Famous and Traffic). It was awesome to see Benicio Del Toro win and very shocking to see Kate Hudson NOT win, but Marcia Gay Harden proved to be a tough challenge from the get-go and was always considered to be the dark horse. Other than that, no real complaints or follies in my opinion. Steve Martin rocked as host with his debonaire attitude and sometimes-low-brow humor. I, personally, thought he was a worthy successor to Billy Crystal and only relied on his crudely humorous jokes to be entertaining... a true comic. (The sly, guilty smile on Tom Hanks after Martin's crack about finding Russell Crowe's kidnapper to be him was priceless.) All in all, a good show, maybe a little long, but, hey, who cares much?

I made one small change to the poll. As you may know, the official nominations for the Academy Awards have been anounced. So, as a result, I got rid of Billy Elliot and Cast Away as they have garnered NO votes at all and were not nominated... HA. However, I left Requiem for a Dream, Almost Famous, and Wonder Boys since they have each received at least one vote. I will leave these on the poll until after the awards ceremony to see which one you, the people, would have liked to see win (it may turn out that said film would not have even been nominated!) Also, I addeed Chocolat to the list since it is an official nominee. Since it wasn't there before, though, it is behind without any votes. So if you loved this movie and wish it to win, vote for it as soon as possible. Remember: this very poll DOES directly affect the outcome of the awards ceremony as I am head chairperson and president of the Academy. I also like to talk out of my ass on a regular basis. It's a talent, I know....... VOTE!

Well, the Therapy? concert in Portland got cancelled. One of the band members got injured. Now, I'm GRATEFUL that it was a 21+ show, cause now I'm not gonna be missing anything. It does suck for the fans over that age, though, and I would be very angry if I was of that age. But, what can you do? One of the members isn't able to play.. whenever that happens, concerts SHOULD be cancelled. I am still hopeful that they come do an all ages show sometime this year. In other music news, Big Dumb Face is coming to Portland, to the Roseland on both March 16th and 17th (though the paper just sayd 17th). This band contains Wes Borland, the guitarist of Limp Bizkit, aka the COOL one. (DJ Lethal is also good, but just cause I was a huge House of Pain fan in 7th grade). Anyway, Borland has an awesome taste in music, nothing like the kind of music Limp Bizkit pumps out. He is a big fan of the avant garde stuff (as am I) such as the great Mike Patton bands Fantomas and Mr. Bungle. It's no wonder that the music Big Dumb Face makes is a little off-the-wall. So, I'm looking forward to that on the 17th (hopefully tickets won't sell out fast as I can't get 'em till next Friday.) In other news, I've been listening to Mudvayne almost non-stop ever since the concert last Thursday. Their cd is amazing! (I recommend it to those who like their music a little harder, but also appeals to those who enjoy good rythem and wonderful singing.) The only time I took a break for it really is listening to Death Cab for Cutie's album "We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes", another great album from a band with a sound COMPLETELY different from Mudvayne. (I recommend to those who like their music a little softer.) Well, that's about it. Hopefully, sometime, I will post my feelings and opinions on the Oscars and who I believe will win and who SHOULD win. (Maybe I'll save that till March.)

God, I am pissed off over something... REALLY pissed off! One of my all-time favorite bands: "Therapy?" is comin to Portland next Saturday and I can't go because it's 21+ (it's at some bar). This extremely sucks because I LOVE this band. They live in Ireland too, so they don't get to America much and now they're going to be HERE... and I can't go! Thankfully, on their site they said that they are negotiating to tour much more here and will probly play some more in the fall. Then, if they do, they need to come here again, and NOT to a bar. I wish there was a rule that if you wanted to go to a concert at a bar, I mean DESPERATELY wanted to go, they could let you in and just make sure that you don't buy any booze. Heck, no one would even try to SELL me booze because I'm an 18 year old who can eaaily pass for 15. AND I HATE THE TASTE OF BEER. But, if Therapy? doesn't come again in the fall to do an All Ages show, my heart would sink because they are a band who I would pay a large amount of money to see! Sadly, they aren't that well-known, and havn't really been for the ten years they've been making albums. If you really wanna get into a good band who was way before their time and professionals in all aspects of music-making, listen to Therapy? If you don't wanna try to find all 7 of their cds (most being out of print), go buy their newly released Greatest Hits album "So Much For the Ten-Year Plan". You will not regret it.

As some might know, I don't update this page alot. However, I do update the movies and music page pretty consistantly. So, here's what I'm going to do: Since I never add many entries here because of my never-knowing-what-to-write-about syndrome, I will leave my ENTIRE site to be based around entertainment. Thus, this page (the home page) will just be used to write critiques, tidbits, etc.. about entertainment (i.e. music and movies). Some might have to do with my life, some not. I just think it'll be better than inconsistently thrying to muster out something that happened to me on a particular day. So, basically, this page will serve as entertainment also, for those of you ALREADY finding it boring! The poll will also stay on this page and mainly revolve around this category as well. This gives my page more of a THEME rather than two pages on entertainment and then one consisting of GOD-KNOWS-WHAT. Maybe, to add to the entertainment value, I will place funny stuff here, or, as I call them: Humorous Quips, also known as (when I don't want to sound like a nerd in fear of being beaten up): "Funny Stuff". I think this change will make this site better and more entertaining, though I still probly won't update much. Oh, and that first header (introduction) HAD TO GO! It made me sound like someone with thick-rimmed glasses, platform shoes, and an inhaler-dependability.........WHAT? Anyway, that's about it. Hope this change suits those who come here (Yes, all THREE of you). Note: this entry is also in "Archives Return". I accidently added this AFTER I Archived.
