I hope to be updating semi-regularly again. We'll see, I've said that before. %)
One man's analysis: RedHat 7 vs. Win2K-SP1 -- Friday, September 21, 2001
Save for a few small hitches, Rob Valliere believes RedHat 7 and StarOffice makes a fine alternative to Windows 2000.
I'd like to see one or more of the PowerPC Linux solutions be as easy to install as RedHat. I tried to install LinuxPPC2000 on my older Mac, was able to carve up the partitions great, but failed utterly when it came to install the packages. It just kept saying "[x] failed to be installed and was skipped" for each package.
I still don't know how I managed to burn the bootable disk to begin with.
As long as we're talking about theme parks... --
Jeff Keller goes on frequent trips to the Disney parks and takes photos of them on whatever the highest-resolution digital camera he has. The "Test Track Opening Soon" mural on this page was my desktop wallpaper for a long time
Pix of UniStudios Japan --
Some nice photos of Mel's Drive-In at Universal Studios Japan, from an import car-parts site. They took the pictures because USJ was displaying a poster for the import-car drag-race movie "The Fast and the Furious."
I always like hi-res pix of theme parx.
Ford looking for Test Drivers -- Tuesday, July 24, 2001
A job, not a car dealer offer. Also, an adventure. Did I say that right? You have to live in Dearborn, MI (FoMoCo county seat) and have a chauffeur's license.
Got broadband? -- Monday, July 16, 2001
45MB MPEG video of dramatic battle cutscenes from various Japanese shooter games, to the beat of "Keep Hope Alive" by the Crystal Method (you may know this as the "Third Watch" theme, or the music from the dance-club shootout at the beginning of "The Replacement Killers").
.pitas.com forwards to diaryland.com? -- Monday, July 16, 2001
So I thought I'd try tools.pitas.com to see if it'd been taken, hopefully by some javascript genius who'd invented cutesy interfaces like that "click me to blog" button they have for blogger sites (actually, it's easy to make such a bookmark, you just make a bookmark to your admin site and put your username and password flags on the end... I'll explain it later). But it went straight to diaryland, the sister site to pitas, also owned by Andrew Zeepo.
So I typed in some random letters and numbers dot pitas dot com, and it too went to diaryland. So there you go.
Narrowly avoiding inclusion on this page -- Monday, July 16, 2001
With my luck, someone somehow will find this and submit it anyway.
Cute Kids -- Saturday, November 25, 2000
Those are some extreme haircuts. Baby Hercules is lucky he doesn't have hair yet.
How to Make Remixes in Six Easy Steps -- Friday, November 17, 2000
Short on theory, but if you ever wondered how they make those wacked-out Eminem-rapping-over-Britney-Spears tracks you find on Napster, well, wonder no more.
Where's George? -- Friday, November 10, 2000
Not the dollar-bill tracking website -- the MIDI organist and bungee-diving man-about-Arkansas. Apparently, he supports Zero Population Growth!
Going Out of the Office? -- Friday, November 10, 2000
"I will be OOTO Friday afternoon."
We will all be Ooto. Ooto lives in all of us.
