A CONSPIRACY AND MY REVOLUTION

A New Age Dawns...
Finally purchased the tickets to "MATRIX REVOLUTIONS" which premieres on the 5th of November. A date to keep with "Teddy Bear" and "Your Honor". Goodbye to the old century!

This however, I say with reservations. Simply because some things of the past remain unique, significant and gratifying. Say, the boondocks of Medina which remain dawdling in life's ways, gifting mankind the peace and quiet he constantly aspires for.

On the other hand, resisting the thought of the goings on in our "pinoy" world is the most difficult thing to do at the moment. Talk about revolution! We have the NPA's, ABB, Abu Sayyaf, MILF, etc...fighting for their cause, at all cost, revolting against the norms of our society. Yet the supposed urbane, educated, "normal" and honorable people elected into office are the very people spiraling our country into the pits of disaster. Take into account the coming elections. Coming elections? Did I say that? I have predicted there would be no elections! None to come in our near future. Given the disturbing and turbulent political situation in the country - start with the Magdalo group, the silencing of all potential presidential candidates, "my right to privacy", Laarni, Loi and Jackie, the subtle yet detected Senate coup by Manny Villar, the hurried 8-hour visit of the US President (which to me was an endorsement of GMA's candidacy), the infiltration of the PBO into the political arena (Pinoy Box Office with the likes of Erap, D' King, Noli, and Loren) and lately the impeachment of Hilarious Davide and the eighty anesthetized-hynotized congressmen signatories. Can there be any disputes to all these abnormalities?!

It is for this reason my name continues to appear nowhere in any Voter's List. I refuse to be insulted by these nincumpoops!! I feared this day would come sooner or later, as I recall my younger days while I listened to the conversations of the elders in the family about how life would be after Marcos and Martial Law. Some believed life would be better after Marcos. (but then, even Cory did not do much. The others somehow knew that Marcos had institutionalized corruption and terror. Then after EDSA, the 1986 constitution was ratified too hurriedly. I always believed our constitution was flawed somewhere, somehow, something had to give in - simply because we pinoys enjoy to live this life with the idea or attitude of "kung may gusot, may lusot". (if there's a will, there's a way), unfortunately, it's for negative.

What I see here is a pure, local "pinoy" conspiracy. A conspiracy of the very same criminals who darkened my life then. These people owe me a lot more than my today. Oh yes, they're alive and well, and are everywhere in the political scene, insisting to hold on to power. We are probably all sick with amnesia and alzheimer's. Even Lee Kuan Yiu and Mahathir Mohammed would quit and walk out on us! These very same criminals of yesterday and today see a near danger growing inside the pinoy "masa" who have pinned some new hope thru incompetent movie stars, who in turn, act like national heroes. All these with a hypocrital cinematic line "para sa mahirap" (for the poor). Come on! It's power and money in a country with a high rate of ignorants. Ouch again!

Am I a revolutionary? Yes! I know in my spirit I simply cannot comform, besides I'm not rich, live with no "lusots", no "wang-wang" atop a classy SUV, no bodyguards, no fat bank account - just a beautiful boondock and a ticket to an exciting premiere.

Oh well, God bless my beloved Philippines and all the souls...long weekend coming!

Have you recently dreamt of the white soft sand on a nice sunny day in Boracay - sipping some cold SMB while conversing with some Filipino-loving foreigner? Or probably a great climb into the cold, quiet boondocks and then relax by a bonfire with a blanket on to keep you warm while sipping that deliciously brewed barako? Go ahead and live the life one deserves, there's so much more than crooked conspiracy! What the heck!

TREASURES AND PLEASURES

For those dear to me and to those who have missed to read the entry, allow me to utilize the prescribed recovery program - the "do it all over again" remedy - a test for my memory, with the little of what's left of it. Can you imagine my brain neurons shuffling inside my cranium?

Well, here it is:

"Last October 8, I flew back to Manila, the place I once called home, to celebrate the 73rd birthday of the most treasured person in my life,my mommy. While I got busy bundling my stuff into the suitcase, I felt this familiar tinge of excitement and pleasure - one I used to experience as a flight attendant - recalling that particular awareness struggling inside me, those of comings and goings, attachment and detachment, association and separation, anticipation and aggravation.

As I stepped out of the terminal, that familiar pleasure struck again upon seeing my beloved mother. It was a great delight to see the woman I shared my darkest secrets with, my closest friend and eternal ally, even before "Teddy Bear" came along. The love and patience she has provided me can never be repaid - nor equalled. It is for this reason, I continually thank the good Creator and implore Him for her good health.

I spent the day in the company of my dearly beloveds - Mommy, brother, "Watek" and "Lil Kawabaw", my grand-daughter. A most pleasurable feeling of attachment, association, anticipation. Irresistible!

The following day, I found myself with tears of laughter in the company of beautiful women I have known for more than half my life, my dear friends: Malene, Nani and Aning. (although a couple of bruhas didn't make it, their ghost haunted us) ...2,...3,...4 bottles of red wine, tick - tock - tick - tock, forgetting the time, yet time has been our constant companion all through the years. We have made it our way with heads on our shoulders and chins up high no matter the pain, no matter the deal. The friendship remains stronger and better than ever before. CHEERS and PEACE

Today, back home in CDO, the pleasure lingers on as I find myself with yet the other treasures, my "Teddy Bear" and "Your Honor"... Ultimately, maintaining and gaining from the treasures and pleasures of life can make living worthwhile indeed,.."as it was in the beginning,... is now...and ever shall be"!!

(the past few days my host encountered some software problems and therefore I was not able to add any new entry. And finally when it came back "on web", I discovered I lost my recent entries. In the hope of trying to copy and paste these entries through the cache of google, and with all my "katarantahan", it simply lost itself into the world of darkness. So, I am back - though losing a portion of me (which I intend to retrieve) brings frustration and disappointment. More entries coming soon!

TAKE IT, TAKE IT...
Ouch to the very core!

My cousin received an e-mail and forwarded it to me. It was an article entitled "Little Brown Americans" written by Don Pedero "Dero" of Philippine Star. I am re-printing excerpts from this article that hit the very core and understanding a point of view from one who sees the story from outside - looking in. The issue does not surprise me at all, coming from a Filipino who claims he has made a decision to turn his back on his country. The usual adieu from the quitters mentioned in a recent entry. When will we ever learn to put up our chins and say this will end? Isn't there anything left to do, but put our best foot forward? Why are Filipinos always first to run away from the truth? Can a simple "Juan de la Cruz" ever make a difference? Can we ever be a proud nation again? Here is an excerpt from the article. Take time, dissect every bit of it...ask, answer then cling on to the least of virtues that we, as Filipinos, can hold on to - honestly!

A PAST PROGRESSIVE LIFE

Everyone tries to be the best of oneself, bar a few who have lost a sense of discernment. From the moment one gets up from bed to greet members of the family, often enough, prospects of the day slip into the mind hoping they would be better than that of yesterday. It is in that moment where awareness tackles the advancement one aspires for the day.

Nevertheless, "lil home" world can change abruptly the moment one steps foot outside. One either builds his prominence and self-respect, or simply loses all that is his individuality.

I bring about this thought today after wondering what goes on in the "lil home" worlds of others after having to see my "Teddy Bear" wait practically 8 hours at the LTO yesterday. To top it all, "Teddy Bear", along with our driver, were there simply to get our car registered. The LTO Chief was undergoing computer training therefore, could not sign documents. So, they were asked to return today.

Another of a "who cares" incident is being experienced by my brother who simply wants to claim benefits due him at the GSIS. The delay in processing has reached 3 months, and after being asked to return every two weeks, "Watek" has received the irksome news that his documents apparently have gotten lost.

Life would have been simpler and happier for all if, from the first hour, others with "lil home" worlds would have value of time and self, a little respect within them. Filipinos seem to be so carefree even within their own "lil home" worlds. And because of this attitude, the government grabs the opportunity to return the same attitude, that of being too lenient and lax with regards to public service. We, taxpayers, get nothing in return. DepEd insist on promoting math and science. Huh? What can math and science do for people who leave their brains asleep at home? Personally, LOGIC and ANALYSIS should be a priority. Have you ever wondered why the likes of Loren Legarda, Noli de Castro, Ramon Revilla, Tito Sotto, Loi Estrada, Kiko Pangilinan, and Ralph Recto are all seated as Honorable Senators of this Republic? Are they truly the best in this country?

Logic should dictate. Analysis should direct. Is my country, the Philippines, a country with logic and analysis? You tell me. Are we all asleep too?

WHY WRITE

To me, writing serves as pastime, hobby, recreation and a diversion from all sorts of anxiety - including the puzzling thought why chino/telenovelas such as Meteor Garden and Gata Salvaje make it big in the Philippines.

I kept diaries as a young girl and have preserved them til today. I kept track of events that took place each day, and it as well served as a calendar for birthdates of cherished relatives and friends.

During my working stint at the Panamanian and Peruvian Embassies, the Heads of Mission would often ask me to prepare their speeches for different occasions. Many times while doing so, I got lifted to another world of make belief, allowing myself to be in their shoes, so to speak.

Today, as a wife and mother at home, writing helps me chill out. Some people are born fantastic speakers, others have the knack of being great listeners. While for some like me, writing becomes a medium to express one's thoughts and feelings. I truly feel I can be a better friend through writing - a personal and private space where noone can tell me I am right or wrong. In writing, one can amend what is not satisfactory, express issues without distraction or interruption, retract an earlier statement without being held liable (hmmm, think Udong Mahusay! Cheap!). Definitely, writing is heaven on earth.

BTW, Joey Marquez and Kris Aquino captured today's front pages in every major newspaper in RP, an argument that led to the poking of a gun and physical injuries. Geez, is this a sign of another major Star Cinema production, based on true to life events? Or is Mother Lily supporting one or the other? Is Kris running for office too? This is the moment where both get a dose of their own medicine. Some people really!! What future do we expect our Filipino children to have?

Ewan ko lang ha...I dunno! Use condoms forever!

NOT GIVING UP - SURVEY SAYS: Part II

In a past entry "Survey Says", I mentioned about the crazy bomber Fathur Al-Ghozi being captured before September 20. Well, only the numbers seem to make a mistake. I am not giving up. His name keeps popping up lately and makes me feel like I will survive.

Strange feeling though, perhaps there is some quiet plan to scratch out RP from Dubya's trip to Asia, and for that reason, PGMA and her men seem to be tentative about Al-Ghozi's publicity. Jose Pidal took the floor, that's why. Why not have a "mock" survey?! Who is Jose Pidal? As if! Tell me!

NIT-PICK

For a moment I thought all was lost while trying to archive my past entries. Whew! Total Kaba! Glad I have my moment alone with no "bugs". I frantically found the solution. So I'm back.

Some few friends, after listening to all my discontment with the affairs of the state easily comment that I should leave the country instead and seek greener pastures somewhere else. More often than not, I choose to accede to avoid any confrontation. But deep inside me, I detest their thought. These are the very same people who enjoy the luxuries of life in the Philippines, bumming around 5-star beach resorts and hotels, traveling around the world, driving expensive vehicles, rubbing elbows with corporate magnates, donating thousands of pesos during occasions with photo opportunities, (if not, announcing it to the world) and proudly uttering there's no place like home. Sure, of course, definitely! Maid servants, drivers, gardeners, masseurs at their service. I certainly wonder what love of country these people have. Incidentally, most of them hold on to two passports. Isn't that a laugh?

Brings me to think of a number of prominent political figures who escaped the harshness of martial law and Marcos by leaving the Philippines in those dark days. These few friends are not to different. In times of trouble, they are first to hop on a plane and bid adieu. I could sound a bit too critical, but that is the matter of fact. I have also lived with Filipinos who have none - literally nothing except a roof on their head, and sweet potato for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And their dream is simply to set foot in Manila to see what Rizal Park, the Luneta and Megamall is all about.

Once, we treated a worker from the boondock. His first time to take a trip to Cagayan de Oro City, had some refreshments and "Teddy Bear" treated him to watch a movie of FPJ in a wide screen theater. He raised his voice in astonishment and practically shed tears when he saw the escalator. People like him have no other choice. They are Filipino too. So, I thought...should I leave? Obviously, no matter how thankless the effort may be, it is worth every cent to see a fellow Filipino happy, hopeful and encouraged. For this, I know it is best for me to stay and enhance my life, and of those who care to receive the little there might be to offer. And for these few friends, I say to them: Offer livelihood! Is that too much to ask?
