Bookie McBooks:
Today's Etiquette Tip: Do not fret over splitting every entertainment bill with friends down the middle. You pay sometimes. They pay sometimes. Keep an honest general idea in your head and it'll work itself out evenly in the long run. Today's Etiquette Addendum:If your friends are pikers, don't let them take advantage of you. But if your friend is simply temporarily broke and not a long-term piker, be generous. They'll get you back when the bag of money falls on their head. the Play's the Thing

My methadone tab bottle has "DC20" written on it. For the last week, I have had an internal debate: is this a will save or fortitude? I am beginning to understand Sweetie's self-described "inner self loathing". While in Manzanita, we watched Trekkies. I had to leave before it was over--I was getting unreasonably depressed. A week later, I can't stop thinking about the wife of the star trek dentist, who shared their sex life with the world and had a very freaky "surrendered wife" thing going on. Watching that movie made me feel very dirty and voyeuristic. The Weekly's latest "bold new era" made national news, sort of. The funny bit is way at the end, but the whole thing is snidely, mildly, interesting. Just took Sweetie and assorted friends to the airport for their trip to Vegas. Last year's trip involved a topless magic show; this year seems far more manly, with a planned trip to Bellagio's sportsbook for some UFC match. I look forward to the stories, and have a full weekend of fun stuff planned--tapas, crafts with Malaika, a movie, some work on what might be a book. You know, fun stuff. I recently learned a new word: fubsy. I have a big head, big eyes, and shortish limbs. When people roll their eyes about me being cute, now I know why. Fubsy. Apologies for the link of yesterday. "Tastykake" is the treat in Manzanita. "Tastykakes" is hotteenhornysluts. What's the difference between a krimpet and a nymphet? Must sit down and write today, but keep thinking about packing for trip. Which to plan for: hurricanes, or standard year-round temps of 80? I realized yesterday a problem with the road trip that starts with an airplane: you pack one giant suitcase, for ease on the plane, along with a small carryon backpack. You then end up lugging said giant suitcase into a million little hotels when you only need one change of clothing. I realize this is a stupidly petty blog entry. I could be telling the world about my D&D character, or providing links to things I want for my birthday. Speaking of birthday, I might have two parties. I can't decide if I want a small cake-and-games time or a big drink fest. So I'll probably have both. Stay tuned...Manzanita was wonderful--warm, sunny, totally relaxing, except for a short trip into Cannon Beach. All we wanted was fish n chips from Ecola Seafood; we got that, along with a fairly unpleasant amount of tourist traffic. One of the high points, which only Jen and Therese experienced, was The Dump. Also, doughnuts, ice cream, great pizza, an ocean, a deck, and tastykakes. Just lovely. And then I had to go back to work. Two pieces due today, four more next week. Plus getting ready for hurricane-filled trip. When I was but a wee lass, I plopped my wee diapered butt plumb into the middle of a yellowjackets' nest. I don't have memory of it, but apparently I swelled up like a Goodyear dirible and cried until I was given a bowl of ice cream. The swelling subsided fairly quickly, and Lightner Mother counted 13 stings on one eye alone. Contrary to the docs in the provided link, I am not especially allergic now. Granted, it's been a couple of decades since I've been stung, and perhaps my histamine levels have since changed. Forgot to mention about the Manzanite trip: we'll be staying in a lovely cabin named after this home. I am making little pipecleaner mascots modeled after Big and Little.
Off to Manazanita in Thursday. Can't wait. Might get to play in the ocean, as methadone seems to be working. Speaking of working, I'm working on a piece for Seattle Weekly comparing chain restaurants. Specifically, Il Fornaio and, of all places, Olive Garden. The websites are weirdly similiar; no big surprise, the food is not. One's yummy. One's pretty bad, unless you like deep-fried ravioli. And, sort of, who doesn't? Our waiter was a graduate of their wine class. He had a pin and everything. Is it finally fall? A while ago I bought a little field guide and have learned all about clouds. Expect more rain today. Last night, a fool in this building installed a club. It set off his car horn from midnight until about 2 a.m. when the cops arrived and tracked him down. Like he couldn't hear it going off? You should go set up an account on this stock market for pop culturati. I only have one other person in my "league" and I want more competition. Show me your login name and I'll show you mine. My nightmare this morning: a man was trying to ax-murder me and other "good" people while he was singing Your Song. It was hard to shake off the dream because the song was in my head. I told Sweetie, who came right back with loudly singing "Little ditty, 'bout Jack and Di-aaaannnn", which I was nearly shot for singing in the car a few months back. I was able to go back to sleep, under the protective wings of Little Johnny Cougar. When does a hobby stop being a hobby? Right about now. If y'all want to put down the video games and get outside with this, I volunteer to play Rowboat Medic and pick up the little parts. Just when you thought it was safe to return to the movie theater...I Just Can't Stand It. Last night I dreamed that my blog was shut down and the feds were after me. Why? Because of the word "boom" in the title and because of an occasional harsh comment directed at The Man. Also last night, I took my first methadone tablet. Thanks to my doctor for suggesting it and not putting me through this. Made more cookies. So good. Three thoughts about today's little anniversary. "plays with it in her room until she's exhausted"? I bet she does. Read the customer reviews. These cookies have been voted overwhelmingly delicious. You should make some. Don't use a whole bag of chips; it's almost too much. Thanks to Ariel for the link to this mural. Jeebiz don't do inline style. But Lutherans do adjust for inflation. Is Jesus also adjusted for inflation? Do we have 300% more Jesus than they did in the 60s? Certainly seems like it. I have work to do. Off I go to do it. I love Bust! Just got the new issue yesterday, and although I swear every time I'm going to savor it over the three months until the next issue, once again I read it all in one sitting. Even the ads. I want a whole new wardrode from these folks, especially the bathing suit. And several small-fry that are currently incubating will be receiving these t-shirts as gifts. Also, I like these food people. Good attitude, but I am a little tired of retro-stylin hip cooks. It's just the art style I'm tired of; not the recipes. Yay, Bust! Saw an ad today for toy-related freelance writers, and then saw they were paying "- per hour". Welcome to the new economy. Next stop: world domination. I finally figured out how to get ultra-organized when it comes to sending out clips, so when I have my next wave of brilliance, I can simply plug it into my little Domination Machine and send it out post-haste. So now I just have to have a few brilliant ideas. [dead silence]At age 32, I had my first-ever test anxiety dream. Stone Cold Steve Austin was administering it; when I realized how stupidly easy it was to cheat on it, and that everyone else in the room was doing worse than I was, I relaxed. Take that, Mr. Anxiety. I didn't do so well on Paxil; couldn't sleep and the second night had some sort of paranoid break from reality. My slippers flat-out terrified me, among other things--pounding heart and sweating when I tried to force myself to put them on. Tom slept through it, as I was too scared to wake him up. Methadone can't be that bad, can it? I will embrace my inner junkie. And actually, reputation aside, it looks like a great medicine for pain. We shall see. Happy September! |
