It is Labour Day here in NZ, so I was off work today. Whoo hoo!
Congratulations to Emmitt Smith and to the Anaheim Angels. I got to see most of Game 1, and all of Games 6 & 7. Good players on both teams, I enjoyed watching the games. What's up with the cheer sticks though, do they have those at Ranger games? I think that would get annoying real quick, unless you were under 10.
Cynthia, Dennis and Stacy all got Cap'n Crunch's first name, which is Horatio. Way to go guys!
Saturday, October 26, 2002, 03:58 p.m.
Bonus weekend trivia question:
What is Cap'n Crunch's first name?
Saturday, October 26, 2002, 11:51 a.m. So long, Richard Harris
One summer my friend Jennie and I went to see Richard Harris in Camelot at Dallas Summer Musicals. I can't remember why we were hanging around after the show, but practically everyone else was gone, and there was a limo out front. And there was Richard Harris signing autographs for a few people, so we went over and got one too. He had a drink waiting for him in the limo, but he signed everyone's programs, and said thank you when he gave it back. I thought that was pretty classy, and I was a big fan ever since.

Another Dennis link, this time a site put together by his company - PAYCAST. Check it out. Dennis says all banks will probably be offering this service in a few years.
OK, who doesn't like that ketchup song. Very catchy, very summery.
At a morning tea today for a co-worker who is leaving I got the dreaded swallow/choke affliction. This is where you swallow a beverage, and at the exact same moment, you start choking for whatever reason. So you are trying to get the liquid down at the same time supernatural forces are trying to make you spew it out all over the place. This usually happens at staff meetings or as I said the morning tea, anywhere it is fairly quiet and there is a group of people. Luckily nothing came out, I got away with just coughing, however, I was a little saddened no one said "are you alright?" or something to that affect. One the other hand, I am glad no one noticed my predicament. Am I the only one this happens to?

There is a bird that hangs around the house that sounds just like our garage door going up. So we are constantly checking to make sure our garage door is not going up without one of us being the instigator. Annoying, but better to hear bird songs than gunfire.

Laurie wants to hear some Duran Duran for Rocktober:

"Hungry Like the Wolf"

Thursday, October 17, 2002, 08:12 p.m. I just found out this actress died - I really liked her.
Normally when I come home Cassie greets me with enthusiasm, happy that I am back. Yesterday when I opened the door she ran right past me - out to the leftover bread Simon had thrown out that morning for the birds. I'm sure she had been staring at it all day, having to watch the birds peck at it. She finally came in and acknowledged me, after every last bit of bread was gone. I saw birds out there later looking for some scraps, but no dice. You snooze you lose at our house.
Olivia's choices for Rocktober are:
"Return to Neverland"'s "Do You Believe in Magic?" by BBMak
"Suspicious Minds" by Elvis from "Lilo and Stitch."
Alright, a little King for Rocktober!
Tuesday, October 15, 2002, 04:47 p.m. So long, Ray Conniff

Monday, October 14, 2002, 10:49 p.m. So long, Stephen Ambrose
Today at lunch I bought what I thought was a roast beef and gherkin sandwich. Then I took a bite. I just looked at the sandwich - those were no gherkins! My friend Rosina said it was apple. Really slimy apple. They looked green in the case, but I was fooled. Luckily I was able to scratch them off without too much foul.
For Rocktober, Dennis would like to hear some KISS:
'strutter'
'christine sixteen'
and
'rock and roll all night'
and then i would like to hear the donnas version of 'strutter' as a bonus. then i would like to hear the donnas version of 'too fast for love' followed by their cover of 'living after midnight.' and then i get all friggin' excited because i realize that it's a donnas contest weekend and that if i'm the 5th caller i win their new cd that won't be available in stores until next week! and then i get sad because i realize that no radio station in town actually plays the donnas and it was all just a wonderful dream.

First, a public service announcement:
The goal of TrueMajority is to make working for justice and a
sustainable world fast, free, and sometimes even fun. By
compounding the power of environmentalists, child advocates,
peace advocates, etc. they create a force more effective than
any of those movements alone. Here is how it works:
TrueMajority monitors Congress on issues of social justice
and the environment. When your voice counts, they send you a
short email alert that describes the pending legislation. Then,
if you choose, with just one click they will send a fax to your
Congressperson for you. It's free and it shouldn't take more
than 2 minutes a month. Just go to www.truemajority.com and click
"Register Here" at the top.
And now, Cherri's picks for Rocktober:
How about some from my favorite REO Speedwagon album...
"Can't Fight This Feeling"
"Don't Let Him go"
"In Your Letter"
"I Do' Wanna Know"
"Keep On Loving"
"Shakin' It Loose"
"Someone Tonight"
"Take It On The Run"
"Tough Guys"
love it, love it, love it!
Friday, October 11, 2002, 04:59 p.m. Uh oh, this is the last thing you want to hear.
Stacy wants to hear a triple shot of Journey:

"Stone In Love"
"Wheel In The Sky"
Yeah, that takes you back. Good times.
Thursday, October 10, 2002, 10:50 p.m. How long can you Hold The Button?
Hey, a lady in Japan just e-mailed me and thanked me for putting the lyrics to the Halloween song (see the archives for last Halloween) on my website. She is teaching English in Japan, and wanted to teach that song to her students but couldn't remember all the lyrics, but remembered enough to type into the search engine and my page popped up. I feel good to have provided some assistance, although I didn't really do that much.
Cynthia was the only one who answered her favorite Monkee, which she said was Davy. Davy was my favorite too.
My pick for this Triple Shot Thursday is the Police:
"Can't Stand Losing You"
"Don't Stand So Close To Me"
"Roxanne"
Any requests?
Wednesday, October 9, 2002, 07:11 a.m.
Cynthia has requested two by The Who:
"Won't Get Fooled Again"
"Baba O'Riley"
Turn it up!
Tuesday, October 8, 2002, 10:45 p.m. What the Dogs Have Taught Me
Today's Two for Tuesday is a double shot of the Monkees:

"Daydream Believer"
Anyone have any other requests?
Who was your favorite Monkee?

I am ashamed to admit I have never read To Kill A Mockingbird. Been in the play, think I have seen most of the movie, but never actually read the book. Until today, because I bought it and have started reading it. And here is an article about Harper Lee today that is fascinating. At least to me it is. Check it out.
Friday, October 4, 2002, 06:02 p.m. The White House Project - Link via Cynthia
For Triple Shot Thursday, Tanya has requested some Burt Bacharach, so my picks are:
"Do You Know The Way To San Jose?" by Dionne Warwick
"The Look Of Love" - Dusty Springfield
"I Say A Little Prayer" - Aretha Franklin
Enjoy!
Tuesday, October 1, 2002, 10:54 p.m.
WELCOME TO ROCKTOBER!
It's Two for Tuesday - what would you like to hear?
I'll start it off with a double shot of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, "Breakdown" and "You Got Lucky".
(Uh, I don't really have any way of playing these songs for you, just imagine them playing, or if you have them on CD or tape or mp3, play those and pretend I played them. Thanks.)

OK, and our last clothing horror story is from Cynthia:
I can remember in 2nd grade wearing a pair of brown corduroy pants to school. It was Brownie field trip day after school. I don't remember exactly how they ripped, but my pants split down the middle and I had to tour the Mrs. Baird's Bakery in Ft. Worth with a jacket on. It had warmed up by the afternoon tour and everybody kept saying "Why don't you take your coat off, I am sure you are hot?" and I would tell them my pants were ripped. I got an extra loaf of bread from the bakery because they felt sorry for me.
Chris has had to come home from work on at least one occasion (back in Texas where he had a 35 minute drive) and change clothes because the seat of his pants ripped when he bent over.
Hey, I know exactly how you feel. Too many ripped pants to count. Cool that you got the extra Mrs. Baird's bread. Thanks for sharing!
Saturday, September 28, 2002, 06:26 p.m. I'm not really into dolls, but these are incredible.
And now, Dennis' clothing horror story:
my clothing horror story is the time that i was at pyro brand development and we were in detroit to pitch the hummer account to general motors. we had been up for about two days straight working all the kinks out of the presentation. it meant a lot to the agency and stan richards was even going to be involved - in fact we took his private jet to detroit. but that's a story for another time. anyhow we get there and i manage about 3 hrs sleep. get up start putting on the suit. i'm almost finluished save for my shoes. so as i put them on i realize something isn't right. i have two right shoes (or it might have been left, but let's go with right for now) with me instead of a matching pair! i panicked for a bit, but finally i just used the iron in the hotel room to melt the sole enough for me to turn a right shoe into a temp left one. and i prayed that no one would notice. so i was extra nervous all during the presentation. and other parts of it were going over their scheduled time, so i knew mine would have to be edited on the fly.i was super sweating it because while editing my presentation i was even trying to come up with clever one liners to retort with if someone noticed and made fun of me.
the good news is that no one noticed. the bad news is that we lost the account. ah well.
Aw, poor Dennis. Great story though. Thanks for sharing!
Friday, September 27, 2002, 11:22 p.m. Be sure and check out the cake - wowee! - Link via Cynthia via Kay
OK, got some great clothing horror stories, here's the first from Cherri:
1. Seemed much worse at the time but in retrospect, in the overall scheme of
my life it was truly minor. In eighth grade, when the style was to wear your
Calvins, Jordache and Gloria's SUPER skin tight-I'm talking so tight that
when you pulled them off your skin had imprints from the seams and pockets
and stuff-in P.E. class when I was changing from my P.E. clothes back into
my regular clothes as I sat down to put on my shoes my zipper broke. I
happened to wear a short shirt that day so I couldn't just wear my shirt
untucked the remainder of the day (one more class) to cover it up. I went to
the office to call my mom to ask her to A.) bring me more pants or B.) pick
me up, and she initially said, "no, you only have one more class, can't you
just wear your shorts?" Uuummm, NO! Nobody ELSE wore their P.E. shorts to
class! I went on to have somewhat of a tantrum with my mom on the phone, in
the office and in front of all other people who worked in the office. When I
hung up and turned around everyone was staring at me with this look of
horror and I was embarrassed. But my mom did pick me up, thank God.
2. This happened several years ago here where I work now. One day I walked
from my desk to the breakroom and had been in there for several minutes when
Tanya (who was temporarily moving very slowly due to the cast on her broken
ankle) came in and said, "Your skirt is stuck in your pantyhose! I got here
as fast as I could to tell you." And, you know what? It was! I had used the
ladies room about 45 minutes earlier and I guess that's when it happened.
Sadly, I had walked across the courtyard and back twice, put some things in
a file cabinet and walked up and down the hallway 3-4 times before Tanya saw
me. I'm still not sure how many people saw my half-exposed rear end and
snickered at my expense. Thank goodness I had one true friend.
Thanks for sharing Cherri! Stay tuned for more tomorrow!
Thursday, September 26, 2002, 08:08 p.m. Need a taxi in Thailand?
When I came home from work today Simon was already here and I asked why and he said he had an accident and I said what happened and he said my zipper broke! Har Har. He even tried to staple it. I've got way too many pants ripped/shoe missing heel/spill on shirt stories to tell. Anyone have any clothing horror stories they would like to share? Come on.
Dennis likes the Austin Powers movies in this order:
1. goldmember
2. austin powers imom
3. the spy who shagged me
He also though Matt LeBlanc deserved an Emmy. I still gotta go with Bryan Cranston. That guy has no shame.
Tuesday, September 24, 2002, 08:39 p.m. Don't want war with Iraq? Sign the petition!
Jeff says he liked the second Austin Powers best, with the first one second, and Goldmember third.
Vanilla Coke is finally here. It is way better than that diet Coke with Lemon.
Anyone watch the Emmys? I can't believe Six Feet Under only won one. I don't even watch The West Wing or The Shield or Everybody Loves Raymond. At least Bryan Cranston got nominated for Malcom in the Middle. He should have won too. Maybe I should make my own awards. Yeah, the Robbys. Hmmm...
Anyone watch The Dead Zone? Any good? What about Curb Your Enthusiasm?
Sunday, September 22, 2002, 08:58 p.m. Austin Powers Week
Well, Austin Powers week draws to a close with me finally seeing the movie. I almost started crying when Soul Bossa Nova started playing. I loved the intro with all the cameos, Tom especially. Mini Me was even better in this film, and I liked Foxxy Cleopatra too. However, I have to agree with Blake that the first one was the best, with Goldmember coming in second, and Spy third.
We also went up to the NZ Nationals motocross finals in Upper Hutt today, but it was so windy, it almost blew you over, and dirt was flying all over the place. Then it started raining. We left after about an hour. Our eyes are still jacked up.
Hope everyone else had a good weekend too. Now it's off to watch Enterprise.
Thursday, September 19, 2002, 10:21 p.m. Austin Powers Week
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHANE! - Look, I have known Shane since he was about six years old, worked with him at Six Flags, attended Tech with him, enjoyed his parties, visited him in New York, and you know, he is one damn good clogger! Wish I could hear the Party Pleaser right now. Will do.
OK, Jeff said his favorite Austin Powers character is Mini-Me, and his favorite lines are:
"Please stop humping the laser."
"Shall we shag now or shag later?"
"I'm a sexy bitch!"
Dennis' favorite line is "everybody likes their own brand!"
My favorite has gotta be "Sex? Yes please!" That makes me laugh every time.
And finally for Friday: Which of the movies is your favorite?
Wednesday, September 18, 2002, 08:50 p.m. Austin Powers Week
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RV! Lover of all things Austin Powers, all things sporting, especially wrestling, basketball and UT, blessed with good friends and a great wife, a nicer guy you will not find, he makes me laugh. Check out his website and hit a few of his sponsors.
OK, Tanya is the only one who admitted her favorite Austin Powers character - "My favorite has got to be Dr. Evil, with Frau Farbissina as a close second. -- "Bring in da FemB-O-T-S!!" I think I've got to go with the Frau also, with Austin being a very close second.
And today's question, what is your favorite Austin quote? Doesn't have to be Austin, just from one of the movies.
Monday, September 16, 2002, 10:53 p.m. Austin Powers Week
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TANYA! An Austin Powers fan, wrestling fan, sci-fi geek, my twin in some life, with a beautiful smile and great laugh that she is always willing to share!
Well, Austin Powers comes out this week in NZ, so in honor of the occasion I have deemed this Austin Powers Week at bobinrob.pitas.com. Please feel free to contribute any Austin Powers memories so we can all share them.
First off, who is your favorite character from any of the Austin Powers movies?
Sunday, September 15, 2002, 04:56 p.m. TrueMajority
One good thing about your old man being out of town - the toilet seat is always down.
El Edwards is the "You've Got Mail" voice. Correctly answered by Cynthia.
Almost perfect day here today - just needed to be a little warmer. I took the dog to a park for a walk off the leash. She ran around like a fool, but there were some other dogs around that she kept looking at, and I was afraid she would tear off after them. She did not, however, she was a very good dog. I can't really take a ball or anything for her to run after, either, as she hasn't quite grasped that concept yet. She might run after it and bring it back, and she might run after it and not bring it back. She's learning, though.
Friday, September 13, 2002, 06:13 p.m. Hey, anyone want to buy me one of these?
Here's something fun for you Dallasites.
WorkingForChange
Sorry for not updating this week, but Simon bought Medal of Honor Allied Assault for the Mac and computer time is scarce. But, he is out of town this weekend, so I have the computer all to myself.
We had a party after work today to celebrate finishing the South Island. I got a gift certificate for a bookstore, so I was very pleased. And I got a little buzz going, which I haven't done in a while. No 32 oz. margarita happy hours here, unfortunately.
Also on Monday the Yugoslavian people at work shouted morning tea because they won the 2002 World Basketball Championship. NZ came in fourth. The US got nothing. Quite embarrassing.
OK, here's a trivia question for Friday that was sent in by Cherri. Who is the "You've got mail" voice?
OK, you kids have a good weekend. Ciao!
Monday, September 9, 2002, 08:56 p.m. Batman: The Musical directed by Tim Burton - Whoo Hoo!
Don't you hate it when you get so depressed you didn't win Lotto and have to go to work again Monday that you stay up really late Sunday night watching a movie, then have to get up really early Monday morning to go to work, and you're not really wide awake at work? Yeah, me too.
So now Monday night after walking the dog and having something to eat, I'm pretty much ready for bed before 9:00. I'm pathetic.
Sunday, September 8, 2002, 04:29 p.m. John Pilger
Went to the Upper Hutt Spring Festival yesterday. It was OK, but really, does anyone want a crocheted toilet paper holder anymore? Or ever for that matter? I was a little disappointed by the booths. Simon got addicted to fried bread. I saw some of those little thick kids books that I haven't seen in like forever. We used to have some, but I can't remember what they were about. Also saw some worry pencils. Remember those like 20 years ago? And the belly dancers did not show when they were supposed to so I was disappointed about that. This morning we woke up to howling wind and rain, the rain has stopped now but it is still quite windy. Our neighbor has quite a lovely garden, I must say. I need to study up on gardening so I can have a nice yard too. My aunt signed up for Bookcrossing, so I got my first referral. Hooray! Now if someone would only find one of my books I have left. OK, enough blathering on for now. Later.

OK, people, you have got to keep me informed when any local talent is on the TV. Yes, I'm talking American Idol. I just found out this weekend that there was a girl from Grand Prairie on there, and one of the finalists is from Burleson. We don't get the show here, but Entertainment Tonight, which we do get, seems to devote 3/4 of their show to American Idol. So I would have been paying more attention to it had I known someone from GP was on.
I've had a hankerin' for Mountain Dew lately, but I don't know, it just doesn't taste the same as it used to. What's your latest hankerin'?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEPHANIE! - Who loves TV and movies as much as I do, and who is a very good mom and friend.
My Aunt Teresa sent me a recipe for tortilla soup, and I made it last night, and it was very tasty, and I will probably make it every week now. Simon liked it too - he usually doesn't like my cooking.
I read about this a couple of weeks ago, and I thought "Thank God!" For many years I have been trying to drink as much water as I can, with pretty much the only result being I went to the toilet - A LOT! Plus, the claims of lots of water helping to lose weight and keeping the skin clear has been rubbish, as they say here, in my case. PLUS, there are so many other things people want you to drink, like wine, tea, non-fat milk. And drinking a glass of juice a day counts as one of your recommended daily servings of fruit. And you know I usually like to sneak a Coke in there. I mean really, is this good for your kidneys? So, even though I still do take a bottle of water to work every day, I do not try to get two or three bottles down, and I am now sleeping through the night, and we are not going through the toilet paper quite so fast. I say hooray for that!
And we say goodbye to Lionel Hampton.
