Why is it when people bring their lunch to work, or cook at home all the time, they say they are "being good?" That drives me crazy. So people who buy their lunch/dinner are bad? I eat lunch with a man who brings the same thing for lunch everyday. I say that's bad. Spice it up, man!

My challenge to you this week is to read a different foreign newspaper each day (online of course). See what makes news in other countries, what they think about the U.S., and how the President and his Cabinet are portrayed. It's pretty eye-opening.

I was reading an ad in a magazine for a play and it said it starred a certain "award-winning" actress, but it didn't say what awards, and I thought to myself, "hey, I'VE won awards, can I add that to my name? What about my CV?" No one has to know it was for getting second place in the Elks Hoop Shoot Contest in fifth grade, or that I won medals for spelling in high school, or won High Scratch Series Female and Most Improved in my bowling league. All they need to see is "award-winning." Yeah, I like how that sounds already.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DENNIS! My brother, who I know I drive crazy sometimes, but who is one of the smartest and most creative people I know, and -

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEFF! A very good friend who always makes me laugh and who always has good stories to tell. WHO'S YOUR DADDY?!

Well, we have a little friend staying with, for two weeks and possibly forever. Her name is Cassie, and she's about 5-6 years old. She's a mutt, but a pretty good one. One of Simon's friend's parents are her owners, but his dad's in the hospital, and his mother is in England waiting for her sister to die, so no one could take care of the dog, so we are. She has a few quirks we are trying to get used to, such as whining even when we are paying attention to her. She also whines really bad in the car, but when we get back home, she wants to get in the car and sleep in there. ? I bought her a squeaky toy at the store yesterday to hopefully put a stop to the whining, and it worked. The squeaking was not nearly as bad as the whining. And she is getting us up and out for walks, so that has to be good. If I can ever find the digital camera, I'll try to take a pic.

OK, people have been sending me a lot of links in the past couple of days, so I am just going to put them all up here right now:

Did you know Dallas has a professional women's football team? - link via Stacy. I didn't, and I'm a little annoyed they are called the Dallas Diamonds, as that was the name of Dallas's team in the WBL in the late 70's early 80's. It's big star was Nancy Lieberman (before she started wearing make-up) as well as many other fine players. Hey, here's a site all about the WBL. I forgot about The Blaze. She was tough. And Ann Meyers - the best. Hmmm, I may have to log more on the subject at a later date.

And let's all have a moment of silence in memory of Elvis.

Thank you.

OK, Dennis says Stewie from Family Guy also has a football-shaped head, and I have to agree.

I need to give a shout out to Stacy for sending me the "What's in the back of my car?" e-mail. YO!

Had a very good experience with the Vehicle Registration center in Upper Hutt today. Unfortunately, you have to get your car inspected twice a year here, and usually you have to book a time, and then take the car in, and figure out how to get to work, then figure out how to get back to the car place, then if something is wrong you have to book a time to get it fixed, then when it is finally fixed you have to go to the post office to register it. It takes several days sometimes. But they built a new place in Upper Hutt that only does Warrants of Fitness, and you don't have to book a time, and I went after work today, and I only needed a light bulb over the license plate, but the guy didn't have what I needed, so I just had to run over to the the Repco which is like 30 seconds away, and then brought the bulb back and he put it in for me, and so I got my warrant and registered the car in less than an hour. I am very pleased.

Cynthia correctly answered who has a football-shaped head, it's Arnold. Are Cynthia and I the only ones who watch Nickelodeon? What are some of your favorite cartoons? One of mine is Little Bill. It is nice and quiet, and has a great soundtrack. And while we're on Bill Cosby, let's give a shout out to Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids which Simon and I have been watching again recently. It still makes me laugh, and teaches me a valuable lesson too.

Hey, does anyone have a good EASY recipe for tortilla soup? I have a hankerin' for some but I don't know how to make it.

Don't you hate it when there are five bathroom stalls, and you go in the next to the last one or the last one, and some joker comes in and gets in one RIGHT NEXT to the one you are in, instead of going in one at least one or two down? What is with that? I'm not talking about when it is crowded, I'm talking no one else there. If you do that, knock it off!

Where did Phoebe(on Friends) bite one of her clients?

We felt this at work yesterday morning. Half the people in our office were like "whoa!" and half said they didn't feel it. It was like a truck was rumbling by outside, and my computer monitor started swaying. Just as long as they stay small.

No one had an opinion on the days of the week songs, so I will tell you mine. I think they should only be played on the day of the week mentioned in the song, unless you are listening to some album they are on, and then it is OK. But radio needs to pay attention.

Do you need a good cry today?

Hey, sorry I have not posted all week, but our phone line was jacked up, and I couldn't even get my e-mail, much less surf the web. But the phone dude came out yesterday, and everything is much better.

Friday when I came home from work I just sat on the couch enjoying the silence for a little while. It was good. Then I turned on The Great Outdoor Games and I couldn't turn it off. I especially liked the running over the logs contest (I don't know what it's really called). Fascinating.

The weather was great yesterday, but has been super windy today. So windy, I thought it might blow the roof off. Please picture me sitting at the computer, and the roof blowing off. Not good.

OK, I have since looked it up and the Outdoor games event I liked is the Boom Run. Check it out.

Annual Ten Best & Worst Signers

The police here have foiled a kidnapping plot of an unidentified man (he has name suppression here) and the kidnappers had made a small bunker in a recreational area right near our house! We wondered why there had been a lot of police patrolling around the past couple of weeks, but they were just trying to figure out who built the bunker and who was the victim. They figured it out with only hours to spare. What's even weirder is Simon has gone on trail bike rides with one of the guys, and has met one of the other ones, and says they are really nice people. It has been quite the news story here this week, and everyone is waiting to find out what the motive was. They actually had a little sign in the bunker saying "Welcome to your new home.'" Creepy.

Also, thanks for the birthday wishes as I turned 35 this week. Yikes, I'm practically 40!

Ugh, Simon and I have been sick with horrible head colds all week. I got a flu shot, so at least I don't have the hacking cough most people at work do, but dammit if colds don't just knock you out for a few days.

On the plus side, Simon found the box of vitamins (which is probably why I got sick, I had not been taking my vitamins.) It was in the guest bedroom. Why someone would put a box of vitamins in the guest bedroom is beyond me, but that's where they were. I'm just glad they are found.

Happy Birthday Simon!

Well, we got moved, some stress, still can't find some things but I guess we will eventually. New house much warmer than the old, so that's good, and a lot sunnier. Has pretty much rained non-stop since Friday until today, and the sun is finally out. The people we bought the house from had two cats which were in the bathroom while the movers were packing them up, but the movers let the cats out of the bathroom, they caught one, but couldn't catch the other one, so we have to try to catch it and our neighbor will somehow mail it to them. I'm not sure how it works. Simon did catch it in the laundry room at 5:00am this morning, but since we didn't have anything to put it in, we had to let it go. So hopefully it will come around again.

Friday, July 5, 2002, 08:27 a.m.
