Halloween, the witch is riding high
Have you seen her shadow in the sky?
So beware, don't you dare to even boast
Or a ghost to your dismay
Will hear you say that you don't care
Say your prayers
Or it may come and pull your hair!

When I was young and played softball and soccer, we always got a canned drink after the game (Shasta, anyone?). Someone told me that if you tapped the top of the can, it would not explode when you opened it. I believed them, and I tap the top of a soda can to this day, mostly out of habit. Anyway, New Scientist has let me know that you are supposed to tap the top of the can with something metallic and THAT keeps it from exploding. Who knew? Now I have a correct answer when people ask me why I am tapping the top of my soda can. I like being correct.

Simon got three baby axolotls today. They look like little tadpoles right now, but should get pretty big. He has to take care of them, though, I have no luck with fish.
Thursday, October 25, 2001, 06:20 p.m. Ben & Jerry's Halloween Page - who knew?
I won a fun contest at work naming famous buildings. Yes, another talent there is no job for. Sigh.

Well, it happened.
I went to sneeze at work, and a fart slipped out.
I'm pretty sure it was audible, but I had my headphones on and I don't know how loud it was.
Why can I never be cool?

Found this Crayola Color Census via Scrubbles and was having a good laugh at some of the Crayola colors on the list (manatee? beaver?). But, it did make me want to go buy a huge box of brand new Crayons and a coloring book and start coloring. What about you?
Friday, October 19, 2001, 09:48 p.m.
Had corn on a pizza today. Chicken, red pepper, and little pieces of corn. That is all.

Well, anthrax fever has hit New Zealand, with a couple of post offices shutting down because of white powder. But, of even greater fear is the black widow spider that hitched a ride on some grapes from California. New Zealand being small islands with hardly anything poisonous, a poisonous spider or snake getting in through food shipments is a big deal. A bee mite practically wiped out the bee industry here last year. Just thought I'd let you know.

Don't forget October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I've found a webcam with a view of the Auckland Sky Tower which is lit up pink in honor of this month. You probably need to check it out before noon your time. And I know the cam WAS working, but it might not be now, it is not dark enough here for me to tell yet, so just check it out for yourself. Ole!

FARK.com - sort of news weblog, very entertaining, or entertaining to me.
kissthisguy.com - The Archive of Misheard Lyrics - I could spend hours hitting the random button seeing how people got caught singing the wrong lyrics. Classic.

New Zealand has been voted "Best" and "Most Safest" country to visit by Wanderlust magazine. Just thought you would like to know.
Got the new Garbage album beautifulgarbage yesterday. I think it's pretty good.

Hey, if you missed Addison Oktoberfest, you can always check out Brave Combo. Looks like they are playing Sons on Oct. 20. So just get your chicken hat, have a little beer or wine, and imagine you are at Oktoberfest. All that's missing is the giant slide!
Tuesday, October 9, 2001, 05:06 p.m.
Happy Birthday Joseph!
Jeff wanted me to put a link to Addison Oktoberfest on my page. I'm not sure why, since it was held back in September, but here it is anyway. I hope if you went you had fun.
Sunday, October 7, 2001, 03:57 p.m. What time is it in New Zealand?
OK people, listen up, we just went into Daylight Savings Time here, so be sure and set your second time according to the link listed above. That is all.
Saturday, October 6, 2001, 03:14 p.m. Hey, can you spot Laurie in the pic?
BTW, New World supermarkets here sell underwear, and it is on sale this week.
This has nothing to do with last week's poll, this is for other people who might be interested in this information. They know who they are.

How about a little poetry for Friday? This poem is by the current U.S. Poet Laureate. Enjoy!
Thursday, October 4, 2001, 05:40 p.m.
Has everyone seen the new Michael Jackson video? Here's a funny story about my cousin's daughter watching the "You Rock My World" video - "After they played this video, they played "Beat It" and Sharon* said I want to watch more Michael Jackson and Joe* and I both said "Sharon* that is Michael Jackson" and she insisted it wasn't. Finally Joe* said "He does really look differently, but it is the same guy." Classic.
*Names have been changed to protect the innocent.
Wednesday, October 3, 2001, 05:47 p.m. I want it.
I was asking some dude at a store if they had this t-shirt, and he said the guy that had the Simpson's license for NZ didn't renew it, so there would be no Simpson stuff coming into NZ. Bummer.
Tuesday, October 2, 2001, 06:55 p.m.
OK, Jeff wants to know who you like better, the Rolling Stones or Aerosmith?
Monday, October 1, 2001, 06:11 p.m.
I'm on some weird avocado kick right now. I do that sometimes, have to eat the same food for a few days in a row until I get it out of my system. Anyone else do that? Or am I the only freak?
Sunday, September 30, 2001, 05:30 p.m. See, money DOES make you happy - for a while.
Friday, September 28, 2001, 05:47 p.m.
Hey everybody, happy Friday! For your weekend enjoyment, I have a drink recipe for you - the Flirtini! Yes, I saw this on "Sex and the City", and it looked damn good. And to help you down that Flirtini, how about The Antiques Roadshow Drinking Game! This is one of my favorite shows, and unfortunately, we only get the British one here, which is good, but not as good as the American one. I don't know why, it just isn't.
Have a great weekend!
Thursday, September 27, 2001, 05:44 p.m. This seems like a damn good idea.

Hey, I just want to give a shout out to everyone who is reading this page. My average per day has gone up, and it is mostly my friends reading, not other people. So I'm very pleased about that. Thanks dudes.
Wednesday, September 26, 2001, 07:10 p.m. No, no wait, this is even better.
In fact, just go to The Onion yourself and read the rest of the issue. Funny stuff.
Wednesday, September 26, 2001, 07:04 p.m. Isn't this what we all hope really happened?
Wednesday, September 26, 2001, 05:51 p.m.
Duran Duran rocks!!! - this is what one of my friends said today, and I have to agree, or I agree that they used to rock. I never got to see them in concert, only their three man offshoot Arcadia - which was still an OK concert. And my friend Mike used to drive around with "The Reflex" blaring from the car, and anytime "Rio" comes on the radio or TV I have to sing along loudly. And I remember when we rented a video of Duran Duran videos just so we could see the "X-rated" "Girls on Film." Yep, good times.
Tuesday, September 25, 2001, 05:25 p.m. SUPERFLAG! (warning: trumpet music)
Hey, I don't know if any of you saw Beneath the Veil on CNN, but if you get a chance, check it out. See how the Taliban (Taleban?) really treat their people. Sad.
Sunday, September 23, 2001, 01:48 p.m.
Good site discussing rumors and truths surrounding the terrorist attacks. Might be good to check before forwarding any e-mails.
Did any of you call and donate money throught that telethon line? Who did you talk to? Anyone famous? I thought the telethon was very nice, but probably could have used a bit more get up and go. But maybe that wasn't what they were aiming for. Everyone sounded great though. It was on different channels here all during the day, but I watched it live at 1:00 in the afternoon on Saturday.
Friday, September 21, 2001, 10:00 p.m.
For some fun when you are trying to look like you are working this Friday, take the Am I Gay? quiz. According to the quiz, I am gay. Who knew?
Link via Dennis (straight, even though he has two cats), who I wish would just get his own damn personal site going again.
Thursday, September 20, 2001, 06:24 p.m.
Here's a web site for a Kiwi company where you can "create emails with virtual people that will speak the messages you send and receive with life-like expressions." I couldn't get the site to load tonight, but I saw it on the news last night, and it looked pretty cool.
We got some documentation to read today about workplace injury, and the first thing you have to fill out is a "Notice of Discomfort Form", which kind of made me laugh because of the word "discomfort." I mean, sitting at a computer all day pretty much causes discomfort, doesn't it? Do I have to fill out a form every day? Then I was reading the "Notice of Discomfort Form" itself, and I noticed the examples they had listed for "Description of Discomfort": aching, tight, stiff, tingling. Just what kind of discomfort are we talking about here, anyway? And is that really any of their business? Sheesh.
Wednesday, September 19, 2001, 05:29 p.m.
Happy Birthday Shane!
So my aunt sent Simon and me shirts from here. They both look alike, so we were trying to decide how to tell who's shirt from who's, and decided that Simon would probably spill something down the front of his pretty quickly, and mine would be stretched out in front. So far so good, the shirts look OK, but who knows how long that will last. I'll keep you posted.
Tuesday, September 18, 2001, 05:58 p.m.
Happy Birthday RV!
One of the places listed here is the North Island of New Zealand, so come on down!

And now a message from Big Bad Den:
"This Saturday I’m doing the America’s Walk for Diabetes. I’m pretty much going solo this year, but I’d like to start raising awareness so next year I can get a team going. "
"On your site, send people to www.diabetes.org and let them know about the walk this Saturday. And tell them next year I’ll be looking for compadres to hoof along with me."
OK, you heard the man, get clicking. You can also pledge money, let me know if you want to and I will contact Dennis, or contact him yourself if you have his info.
Thursday, September 13, 2001, 06:25 p.m.
Well, how about a little light entertainment in the form of New Zealand's sexiest man, Kevin Smith. And no, it's not the Clerks/Mallrats/Chasing Amy/Dogma/Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back Kevin Smith, but Ares from Xena Kevin Smith. Oh yeah, you know you like it.
Tuesday, September 11, 2001, 05:14 p.m.
Ever think about being an archaelogist when you grow up? Play this game and see if you can cut it.
Monday, September 10, 2001, 05:26 p.m.
Well, well, looks like I stumped Mr. Den with the wind quote. Here is one of Simon's favorite quotes, and I wish I had a sound file of him saying it, because it's really funny:
"We've got lumps of it 'round the back."
Sunday, September 9, 2001, 03:07 p.m. What prehistoric creatures lived in your neighborhood?
Friday, September 7, 2001, 05:04 p.m. Got naturally curly hair, just like Frieda? Check out this site.
OK, here's another quote. Come on people, Dennis is the only one playing.
"You can't catch the wind!"
Thursday, September 6, 2001, 05:05 p.m.
OK, the answer to the cake quote yesterday was of course Pee-Wee. Dennis was the only one to answer and got it right.
OK, hopefully here's a little bit harder one. If I haven't gotten it exactly right, you still should be able to tell what it's from. I'm sure that's not confusing. Anyway, here it is:
"No, no liquids."
Wednesday, September 5, 2001, 05:17 p.m.
"IS THAT A BIG ENOUGH PIECE OF CAKE OR WHAT?!?!?!
OK, who said it?
Tuesday, September 4, 2001, 05:20 p.m.
Hey, check out the pic of Blake and Kevin Smith.. Also, go to Blake's website to find out more about his trip to Austin, and just to check out his site.
Monday, September 3, 2001, 06:40 p.m.
This game reminds me of when my Pepa used to burn our hand with his magnifying glass. Aw, it didn't hurt us, it taught us a valuable lesson, and I think he thought it was pretty funny. Yep, good times.
Link via Dennis.
Sunday, September 2, 2001, 01:32 p.m. We went to see this yesterday.
