Hey, just an update on that $1.00 soup - it was souper tasty, just like a green chicken curry. I think if I find it again I will get some rice and pour it over the rice, and have my own $1.00 curry. Yum!

I got some soup at the store for $1.00, and it isn't even expired yet. WHOO HOO!

America has it's advantages - so true!

Simon got a couple of axolotls last weekend, so through the week he got a bigger tank, etc. for them, and today we went and got 20 small fish (neons) to put in the tank - for the axolotls to eat! I was kind of sad about it at first, but sat in front of the tank for almost an hour today watching to see if anything would happen. Evidently the axolotls aren't hungry, or they probably would have gone for some of the fish right away. We are expecting to wake up in the morning to no small fish. We'll see!

Sunday, February 17, 2002, 08:25 p.m.

Happy Birthday Eric!

Saturday, February 16, 2002, 05:48 p.m.

I don't know how many of you watched Xena and Hercules, but the actor who played Ares, Kevin Smith, died in China after he fell and suffered a severe head injury. I think I mentioned him in an earlier post on my website as New Zealand's sexiest man, and his death makes me sad. He had a wife and three young sons. I just wanted to share.

No one guessed Texas' State Rock, which is petrified palmwood.

OK, Simon just brought home a couple of axolotls, so I need to go see what's going on.

Yea! The SpongeBob SquarePants movie!

Happy Birthday Austin!

So, what did everyone give/get/do for Valentine's Day? I got Simon some jerky, and he got me a box of candy.

Buddy Holly produced Waylon Jennings' first album. Thanks to Cynthia for answering and getting it correct. My junior high basketball coach named one of her sons Waylon after Waylon Jennings. More trivia.

And Friday's question is: What is Texas' State Stone?

Thursday, February 14, 2002, 12:16p.m.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Blake got the correct Boba Fett trivia from yesterday. The answer, in Blake's own words: "Jabba initially offered Fett 100,000 credits for Solo... but Fett insisted that the carbonite thing Solo was frozen in was the work of Darth Vader... so Jabba gave him 250,000 credits." Way to go, Blake!

And today, in honor of Waylon Jennings, some Waylon trivia: Who produced Waylon's first album?

Tanya gave a good answer with Enron CEO Kenneth Lay, but Cynthia gave the correct answer for Texas' State Reptile, which is the horned lizard. I can still remember Laurie picking one of these up outside our Mema and Pepa's house. Laurie would pretty much pick anything up.

And today's question is: What is Texas' State Gem?

It's one of those days here today, very humid - maybe because it's raining? Who knows, I just know I'm hot and sticky.

It's also a Monday, and I know this because as I was using the restroom at work today, I noticed I had two holes in my pants. Great!

And Monday means the return of Texas Facts Trivia. Today's question is: What is Texas' State Reptile?

Y'all have a good day!

Went geocaching again on this absolutely beautiful day. The actually cache was a little off the path, in all this gorse, so I didn't want to go up. It took Simon about 30 minutes to find it, and when he came out he looked like he had been attacked by a cat. He's still trying to get gorse prickly's out of him.

Although Dennis tried to convince me it is the sarlaac, no one guessed the state insect, which is the monarch butterfly. I really can't believe they didn't pick the locust or the mosquito or the june bug. I think more people see those than monarch butterflies. But who am I to judge?

You know, what is the deal with people who use their first initial, then their middle name, and put that on forms and stuff? Like when I used to work at PPA and YPO, people would send in their app forms with stuff like L. Steven Jones. And I'm like, do I call him L. Steven? L? Steven? Steve? Why can't they just fill in Steven if that's what they go by? Or put it on the form that that's what they go by. It would make life a lot easier.

Also, you know how in the states people use "Joe Blow" for just any guy? Here they say "Joe Bloggs." Just thought you would like to know.

OK, Cynthia was the only one to answer the "easy" Texas' State Shell question, which is the lightning whelk. Has anyone ever seen one on the beach?

And Friday's question is: What is Texas' State Insect?

Don't you love it when you can sit in the sun, and it's nice and warm? And don't you hate it when the sun goes away, and it's not nice and cold? Yeah, me too.

The answer to the question what material makes up the braids on Boba's shoulder is wookiee hair. Congratulations to Dennis and Blake for getting this question correct.

And now back to Texas trivia: What is Texas' State Shell?

rupaul : weblog - so great

Today is Waitangi Day. I had the day off.

I really don't mind doing laundry, because I really like the fresh laundry smell. It makes me happy for some reason.

I am giving Cynthia and Jeff 1/2 credit for their answers for Texas' State Fish. The correct answer is the Guadalupe bass.

And now for something completely different - a Boba Fett trivia question: What material makes up the braids on Boba's shoulder?

Ice Cream By Mail - you heard me

Oh man dudes, I have sneezed all day today. People at work were laughing at me, and I kept apologizing for disturbing them. I better take me some extra vitamin C.

Nobody guessed Texas' State Small Mammal, which is the armadillo. Check out the link, it is pretty interesting.

OK, let's see if anyone goes for today's question: What is Texas' State Fish?

Sorry Tanya, but you were the only one to answer the trivia question today, so you win. Tanya correctly answered that Texas' State Shrub is the crape myrtle. Way go to, Tanya!

Nothing much going on, it is actually hot here, which is good, I heard it was hot there too, it is probably hotter there than here, and it is January. Whee!!!

OK, KK steps in and gets the correct answer of Texas' State Tree with pecan. Yes, Texas' State Tree is the pecan tree. Uhmmm...pecans.

And today's question (this should really annoy Dennis) is: What is Texas' state shrub?

Tuesday, January 29, 2002, 08:41 p.m.

Beth sent me the news this morning that Astrid Lindgren had died. I loved Pippi Longstocking, and checked The Adventures Of Pippi Longstocking, Pippi Goes On Board, and Pippi In The South Seas out of the library several times. I was even thinking recently of checking them out of the Upper Hutt Library. Anyway, hopefully someday I can go here. And here's one take on why Pippi Longstocking is a great book.

Jeff guessed the correct answer for Texas' State Grass as Sideoats Grama and he was correct! Way to go Jeff!

Today was banana day for some reason. First off, someone who sits around me ate a banana this morning, and then threw the peel away in their trash, leaving it to stink all day. People, if you eat a banana or any other aromatic food, please take the stinky wrappings and throw them away in the breakroom or kitchen or somewhere else. Do not leave them festering all day in your trash, especially if you sit around other people. I actually asked someone to get their banana peel out of my trash when they had thrown it in there one time. The smell just annoys me.

Then, after work, I went to the store, and when I got out of my car I looked down, and there was a banana peel stuck to my tire. The same banana peel? I don't know, and I didn't stick around to ask.

And today's Texas Fact Trivia question is: What is Texas' State Grass?

Laurie swooped in and got the correct Texas state fruit - the Texas red grapefruit. Tasty! Laurie is also going to Nashville next weekend. Have a good time Laurie!

Speaking of fruit, I had some champagne watermelon this week. Saw it at the supermarket, and thought I would try it out. Tastes pretty much like regular watermelon, just without the giant black seeds. Oh, and the watermelons here are about the size of volleyballs. Not the giant ones grown in Texas! But they still pretty much taste the same, watermelony.

Don't you hate it when people don't prop the door open properly, and it slams shut, startling you while you are trying to work on your web page? Yeah, me too.

Sigh, only one person answered the Texas State Flower question, and at least they got it right. Cynthia is correct with the bluebonnet. Way to play, Cynthia! They have some flowers called lupines here that are related to bluebonnets. But they are not just blue.

And Friday's question is: What is the Texas State Fruit?

Thursday, January 24, 2002, 07:08 p.m.

OK, Mom must have been sending her e-mail as soon as I hit the done! button for the website, so I will give her the correct State Song of Texas, Our Texas. Congratulations, Mom!

Thursday, January 24, 2002, 06:19 p.m.

Finally saw the Golden Globes last night, and I don't know which I like better - the superthin Jennifer Connelly, or the Mulholland Falls/Rocketeer Jennifer Connelly. I think I like the latter better.

I can't believe no one got Texas' state song - it is Texas, Our Texas. I actually had to sing it in choir one time at a prayer breakfast out at the Naval Air Station. The guest speaker was Bill Murray. No, not THAT Bill Murray, this Bill Murray.

Now come on, everyone should get this one right: What is Texas' state flower?

Wednesday, January 23, 2002, 05:47 p.m.
Thanks for the tunes Peggy Lee

Tanya got the correct answer for Texas' State Motto which is Friendship. According to Tanya, "The winner of a recent contest to re-do Nevada's motto was "Whores & Poker!" I don't think it passed in their legislature." Yes, I think I'll stick with Friendship.

And today's question: What is Texas' state song?

Have people arguing with you that the moon landing was a hoax, and using that crappy FOX show as proof? Then the above site is for you.

OK, no one even took a stab at the elevation of Texas, so I will tell you the answer: high point - Guadalupe Peak at 8,749 feet, and low point - Gulf of Mexico at sea level.

Well, we should be getting into some more interesting facts now. Today's question: What is Texas' state motto?

Well, today is Wellington Anniversary Day so I am off work. Hooray!

OK, no one got the total land area of Texas, which is 267,277 square miles including 261,914 square miles of land and 5,363 square miles of inland water.

Today's Texas question: What is the elevation of Texas, high point and low point?

Sunday, January 20, 2002, 03:59 p.m.

Hey guys, I'm back! Did you miss me? I missed you. I'm burnt, but I really enjoyed the sun. We went to Hastings which is in the Hawke's Bay area of New Zealand. We stayed here, and went here and here and here and did this. And it was nice and sunny and hot, which the Wellington region is not, and it has rained on us since we left Hastings and come back here, but oh well, it was good while it lasted.

Texas Facts Trivia starts again tomorrow, so be ready!

Saturday, January 12, 2002, 05:00 p.m.

Aw, dudes, I just read on Excite that Ethan won Survivor 3, but it doesn't come on here until Sunday night. At least Lex didn't win. I don't think Kelly would have let him win if it had come down to him facing council.

FINALLY going to see LOTR tonight. Everyone I know that has seen it has seen it at least twice now. OK, maybe not everyone, but more than one person!

Right, so no one answered yesterday's trivia question, which was the population of Texas, and the answer is 19,759,614 (est. 1998).

Today's question is: What is Texas' total land area?

Man, I had to go out at lunch to today to pick up Simon's front motorbike wheel (which wasn't ready), and it was very humid, and I got all sweaty, and then I think I smelled like B.O. the rest of the day. I think I need to buy some perfume and keep it in my desk or something. We already had one guy at work get called in for B.O., I don't want to be next.

OK, the answer for Texas' nickname is The Lone Star State. Congratulations to Dennis and Jeff who got it right, and who, coincidentally, share the same birthday.

And the next question is: What is the population of Texas? (Give or take a million).

Wednesday, January 9, 2002, 09:53 p.m.
Juan is coming home, baby!

And we say goodbye to Dave Thomas, who brought us Frostys and square hamburger patties. Remember when that was such a new weird idea? I can remember going to Wendy's for the first time by Six Flags Mall. Ah, memories...

Anyhoo, the answer to the state capitol of Texas is Austin. Mom is the only one who answered, and got it right. Way to go, Mom!

The next question is: What is the nickname for the State of Texas?

ATTENTION!!! ATTENTION!!! TIGER WOODS IS IN NEW ZEALAND!!! - You'd think with all the hoo-ha and security the Queen herself was in town - she is coming later this year, but now it's all about Tiger.

The correct answer for when Texas was granted statehood is December 29, 1845. Jeff was closest with 1845. Congratulations Jeff!

The next question is: What is the Texas state capitol?

My cousin Cynthia sent me a Texas calendar, and in it were some Texas facts that I thought would be fun to ask you. So I'm gonna! And sure, you can look up the answers on the Internet or in your Texas Almanac, but I think it would be funnier to just answer off the top of your head. Some you may know, some you may not know. So just hit the email button in the top left corner, and give me your answers!

First question - when was Texas granted statehood?

Ohmigod people, Simon's sister sent him a recipe for cauliflower that makes it taste like mashed potatoes, and it is pretty damn tasty! Why would you want to eat this instead of the real thing? Because you are on a low-carb diet, that's why. Not exactly heart healthy, but it IS a vegetable. With a lot of cheese and cream and other stuff thrown in. Lemme know if you want the recipe.

For Christmas Simon and I bought each other a Garmin eTrex. This is so we can go geocaching. I first read about geocaching on the BookCrossing.com website (a guy had left a book in a geocache, and someone had picked it out). I thought it would be fun, and get me out of the house. So Wednesday we went and found our first geocache. It was up a firebreak outside Winui, and poor Simon had to act like the muledriver to my stubborn mule. Anytime I see a hill it's like I sit down, and Simon has to pull on the reins, cajoling me the whole time to keep going. We finally made it, and of course I was glad I had kept going, but it was pretty rough. We took some pics of the great view, so I will post those as soon as we get them developed.

We have been taking the eTrex on walks also, because it records your route, your average speed, your maximum speed, the trip length and the time. It's really a pretty cool little gadget, and I'm glad we got it.

I also got one of those frogs that croaks when someone approaches it. Cool.
