I don't remember if I've ever linked to Andrew Sullivan before, but this post is essential for anyone still head-scratching over the Mary Cheney fake controversy brewing since last night's debate. I couldn't agree more with his take (though I tend to disagree with him strongly about half the time).

Sign this petition. I know, I know, they're ineffectual blah blah. But it doesn't cost you anything, and this is a pretty big deal. Did you know that a sizable broadcast group is broadcasting naked anti-Kerry propaganda in the form of a movie questioning his patriotism? In prime time? About a week before the election? Without commercials? In a whole helluva lotta swing states? Check out this NYT article (login required) for the poop, and I do mean poop.

And hey, think you're better than all this political stuff? Well, William S. Burroughs Jr., Undying Prince of All Cynics Everywhere and That Includes You Too, Mister, went to Chicago in '68*, saying "It won't change anything, but we must be heard saying 'no.'" Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

*Don't know what this means? Well, edumacate yourself. Or you could start here.

Very nice video for an odd song by an odd gang of musicians. Every element is both cute and scary, which is quite a feat. Well worth a few minutes of your time.

Interesting post about why Bush mentioned the Dred Scott decision in the last debate. I implore you all to read this and send it along to everyone you know. (It's a secret code - if that doesn't intrigue you, what will?)

Interesting article on increasing voter turnout. As it happens, you can do it yourself.

Conversations with telemarketers. Just a few, and so good. Reminds me of Cardhouse which is no coincidence because I got the link from them/him/them.

For heaven's sake. The best use of PowerPoint ever. This should be a built-in template. [Update: Oh my god. Someone changed this, by hack or by crack, to something that shouldn't be seen by anyone. If the word 'goatse' means anything to you, then you know what I mean. If it doesn't, don't look it up. Honestly. Link removed.]

So good. I can't say I've had to deal with pesky fundamentalists on public transit, but I hope I'd be able to get my freak on like this guy did. Hilarious.

Here's something not to do: When you think you've coined something clever, like "utopiate of the masses," Google it! That'll sober you right up.

On the other hand, "Snack the Vote" seems to be a first. But I'm still sober!

Okay, look. Can we agree that I don't link to many Flash-intensive sites or giant media files? Can we at least agree on that? Because if we're not on the same pageon this, you might neglect loading up this little Flash guy, and we'd both regret it. Here's the rules: When it loads up, try to click the nice man on the nose. Keep at it for at least ten seconds or so.
