I spent my New Year's Eve curled up with a cute girl and a good book. Much more satisfying than acquiring tinnitus, lung cancer, and cirrhosis, then risking highway death. I hope your night off was as delightful.

His evocation of the conflicting pre-modern, modern, and post-modern layers of the Spanish landscape is heavy-smart and lyrical without being precious. I wanted to ride in his back seat, but I also want to experience his scholarly solitude. He's written the first guidebook for time travellers.
