So insane.
We need one for DiS. I got it on the first try in the first three levels of intoxication, which is interesting and alarming.

Found while doing research for work.
No comment. But go look. But no comment.

Last night's dream world had me on a Vietnam troop boat motoring up a jungle stream with dead Charlies all over the place above us in the trees. Looking more closely, the Charlies were actually grey aliens, and one of them was alive and watching us through a mirror. I frantically yiped at my buddy to pop him, but then we realized that the aliens were benign.

What usability genius decided to put Netscape/Mozilla's hotkey for closing a window/tab (Ctrl-W) right next to the key for exiting the program (Ctrl-Q)? I can't tell you how many times I've had multiple windows up with various info-sources pumping away, only to blow it all like I just did with an errant blow of my mighty finger. Grr.

And another link:
Cringely writes about the Diebold e-voting mess from the nrrd's-eye view. Well worth reading - and I can't wait for next weeks, when the nrrds write back.

What an age we live in.
(Back to occasional linking!)

Tom, the Blunt Observer*, correctly identified me as less a blogging slacker (ala the Typepad gang) and more "just a now-and-then linker." Too true, and I hope the burden of inflicting reality on people never gets too heavy for him.
So anyway, here's some bits I've wanted to post but never got around to writing (topics only - I've got work to do - see below). A procrastiblog:
- Conservatives are suprisingly torn on the issue of gay marriage. Huh.
- Much of the criticism of the war could be silenced by prohibiting US companies from profiting from the rebuilding of Iraq. That'll happen.
- Word Freak will kill you with nerd love. It made game-phobe Janet pick up Scrabble, it's so good.
- File-sharing (arrr, matey) is stronger than ever. Check out Soulseek for a sleek, spyware-free client. I'm waiting to get my CD burner back so I can pop out the four dozen albums I've acquired this week.
- Working on and off like a maniac**, and it's all with or for friends, which is nice. Hi Mike! Hi Bethany! Hi Rob! Hi Dorothee! Hi HL2 crew!
- I all but stopped reading this year and only just started up again in earnest. I've only finished five books since the end of June, and three of those were re-reads. Criminy. Birthday books (Thanks Therese! Thanks Kevin! Thanks Dexter!) helped re-inspire me.
*I'd link to DrunkInSeattle for him, but it's still embarrassingly paltry. For now. Le DiS est mort! Vive le DiS!
**If it's on and off I guess I'm working like a manic-depressive, but I really like the word "maniac." There - I used it again.

Go old school:
go scurvy.

This is a fast read,
but it shouldn't be. I hope it ignites an angry opinion-storm, but expect it won't.
Thursday, November 20, 2003 - 06:49 p.m. -
We do have a stupid name,
don't we? Let's do something about it.
Tuesday, November 18, 2003 - 11:28 a.m. -
When I hear the phrase "Adults-Only Science Center," I don't think of this. Cool idea, though, if probably short-lived.
Tuesday, November 11, 2003 - 06:06 p.m. -
I just had to do a Google search for "Sleeping Barbie requirements." For work, officer.
Monday, November 3, 2003 - 11:59 a.m. -
Must-see.
Kinda long load time, but it's so worth it. Make sure your sound is turned way up and your co-workers/neighbors are either deaf or too intimidated to complain.
